"when doing design, i often first ask what themes/inspirations/vision boards live behind the work. through our conversations, i came to trance ritual practices, butoh, and the cinematic form of cyberpunk - namely Shozin Fukui’s 1991 wtfdidijustwatch ’964 Pinocchio.’ often when arranging seemingly disparate image sources, like those fragments of sound which we refer to as “samples,” i find that new bridges are drawn as alternate paths to retell the story…the work looks/sounds/feels different as the parallels form and connections are realized. it all sort of naturally reveals itself and falls into place, forming an auxiliary narrative out of a partnership with the original telling - something that brings me a lot of joy when doing this sort of work… how sampling - whether in visual or aural collage - leaves a quantum lineal bread trail to these other stories and storytellers. technically, procedurally, the shirt comes from a whole lotta research, screencapping, xeroxing, printing, and scanning with transparencies…"
