Extra information: cuttlefish can change colors to camouflage with their environment. They remain camouflaged except during courtship, fighting, or trying to scare something close to them by flashing.
Their muscle tissue is highly poisonous.
They have three hearts.
There are over 100 species of cuttlefish.
Cuttlefish can release ink.
They have a bone called the cuttlebone, which controls buoyancy instead of having a swim bladder.
Cuttlefish can see polarized light.
Flamboyant Cuttlefish were discovered in 1885.

i love him so much!! and i strongly anticipate that i will be crying about him in therapy tomorrow!!
#he has shown some interest in food again#and has been keeping what he’s eaten down#so that’s good#he has been sleeping a lot but it’s a Sunday and he was sedated earlier so that’s probably normal?#at this point im most worried about the fact that he hasn’t passed food yet#but I’m hoping the stress has just made his GI tract a little wonky#and that will be tonight or tomorrow#it’ll be kind of tricky if i have to take him in Tuesday or Wednesday because I have clients i really don’t want to cancel on#because we just had a week off two weeks ago#but I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it

wip wednesday (birds of prey)
Hey y’all! I just got a new job, and it’s Wednesday! Have a little snip snop from the next chapter of losing hand to celebrate. (It’s the shaving scene, my favourite scene, blades and sexual tension, I mean, it’s honestly good, if I say so myself.)
“I don’t understand,” Essek breathes out, his hands still except for the lightest tremor.
With his eyes never leaving Essek’s, Bren huffs a small laugh. Letting go of the back of Essek’s thigh, his hand settles on his waist instead. “Why I keep putting my life in your hands?”
“How you seem to value your own life very little,” Essek corrects him scathingly, “constantly throwing yourself in danger, and yet you never cross that last threshold.” His grip on the razor tightens as he steps even closer, hearing a small intake of breath on Bren’s part and ignoring it. The roiling storm inside him has broken, and the unnamed feeling reveals itself to be anger. “You know you’re not going to let me hurt you. Why did you feel the need to show me how little power I have over you?”
“Essek,” Bren says, and the way he says his name is incongruous and familiar at the same time. After a moment, Essek realises it’s how he calls him when they’re in bed.

A bit late, but just in time for the end of WIP Wednesday!
Completed the waist decreases this week and am abt 1/3 done with the lower ribbing. After that, will just need to add the (short) sleeves and block. The finish line is in sight!

WIP Wednesday

I do have a small amount of writing to share this week, but I think I'd like to talk about process first because it's important to me. If you wanna skip it, the little WIP will be below the cut :3
I've been replaying older quests on my new hunter (Mae! since the old one doesn't look great lol) and finished up Beyond Light recently so I could use stasis on my alt too. Ghost's doubts throughout the quest really stuck out to me, especially his concerns about being able to heal/rez the Guardian because of wielding Darkness. I also thought about the exotic leg armour that Mae wears, St0mp-EE5, and why would she be wearing them? Especially because their only real benefit is increased sprint speed and more powerful jumps. In my headcanon, I feel like they'd have some good shock absorption properties as well. They already have some nice ankle bracing on the side, but she does modify hers to reinforce them a little better (WIP - I'm awful at design).
I've also personally been dealing with a lot more chronic pain than usual because of the weather or something (my poor ankies). So all of that combined led me to considering what it would be like for a Guardian to experience chronic pain. I'm not convinced this is going to be canon for Mae, but it's something for now. And write what you know, yeah?
She hadn’t intended for him to know, in the beginning. But he had seen the way she shifted in one too many debriefings, steadying herself against the war table, shifting uneasily to take her weight off of her right ankle.
Shattered. That was how Lyra had described the damage caused by a stray shard of stasis energy fired by Praksis. It had supposedly healed, though Mae wasn’t convinced of that. Why then had the pain persisted through revives? Lyra had no answers for that, nor did Glint. Both he and Crow had been sworn to secrecy after the confession. What questions would the Vanguard ask if they caught wind of it? What if this was only the first symptom of the strain of wielding Darkness? What if it consumed her until Lyra could no longer heal her wounds? Bring her back from death? What if, what if, what if?
“Mae?”
Lyra hovered off to the right, optics narrowed in a question. It was only then that Maeve was aware of her shallow breaths and rapid pulse pounding in her ears. And that she didn’t remember the trek to the war table beyond flashes of searing pain.
The station was mostly unoccupied save for the Vanguard robots, who all seemed much more interested in their datapads and consoles than they were with the Guardian leaning against the table.

without getting too deep into what happened in this issue OR what's currently going on w/ steve mentally because it's a lot, this conversation between steve and sam ( all those quotes are sam, btw ) summarizes painfully the situation share has found herself in time and time again through no fault of her own. at her core she is loyal AF and someone who will always offer help to those she cares about, even if it means sacrificing herself ( or in this case as sam points out, fighting to the point of barely being able to keep herself upright ) without a second thought or hesitation.
and in return for that loyalty, there have been too many instances where she gets left behind once her usefulness is spent. she's been told time and time again that she's only useful until she isn't. that's not to say this comes as a surprise to her -------- she always knew going into this profession that she was an asset, a means to an end for someone else. but for her there's a difference in it being purely professional / being an operative and that abandonment coming from someone she cares for and trusts.
** and if we're talking her relationship with steve in particular, the lines about her following him into fire but being the one to get burned is so accurate it hurts. she's been targeted by his enemies before because of her proximity to cap; she's been manipulated and brainwashed in order to be used as an asset against him on multiple occasions. she's the one who gets her hands dirty in situations where steve can't because of the whole cap persona and mythos. she does the things he can't because she doesn't have the shield or the weight that comes along with it. in a way she's more free than he is to explore the gray, but no matter what, she's always going to be the one who ends up getting burned in the end.

here's a sneak peek of chapter 5 of reckoner which i'm posting tomorrow:
“Ian is very close to his siblings,” Caleb states. “But we don’t see them a lot.”
Ian frowns. “I need to see them more. Just gets busy.”
Mickey leans back in his chair. “Life gets in the way.”
“Yeah, it does.”
“Where’s your bathroom?” Ian asks, suddenly. He does need to use it, but he also needs a break, to step away. It feels intense, he’s felt it all night, and maybe it’s just the anxiety of it all, but what he realizes is he doesn’t hate Mickey like he’s supposed to, like Caleb wants him to. Like understanding that they grew up in hardship has drawn some invisible string connecting them to each other.
“I’ll show you.” Mickey gets up and places his napkin on the table.

#i don't know why but three days later i feel like.. .weird uneasy about my pulmonologist appointment#LIKE i felt so relieved after the appointment wednesday and now i'm second guessing it and being like.. .but am i ok doe???#bc he was like rlly lax about everything and after catscan he's certain that the increased artery pressure in my lungs is from my heart#being a little wonky and pumping back some blood the wrong way#and not from the artery itself which... it's not the /dangerous bad gonna kill you/ type#(which is what my cardio said too)#but with how both my cardiologist and gyno reacted to that echo result im like... uh hhh should i be seeing a different lung doctor#i mean i gotta go back to the lung doctor in 6 months for a repeat of the lung function and stress test to see if results are same#idk?????? like i saw my gyno in passing for a prescription refill and he had 0.0 face about that result#cuz my pulmonary pressure on my echo was 41.........and i was warned by my cardio that that's shanking borderline#and the pulmonary doctor didn't even mention SHANK like did i need to be shanked???#like id rather be shanked if it confirmed that my lungs won't make me throw a clot thank u very much multiple relatives of mine have#had strokes and they SUCK#i see him next wednesday for my 6 months checkup which... im planning to have a long discussion about my pills with him#bc he's SO weirdly protective of me bc he dealt with the fallout of my mom's stroke 30 years ago#and also was the one who sent her out for her cancer referrals (i love my family but holy shit we're cursed)#like i've been seeing him for a decade tho... so i trust him fully..... LOL#so i'll just mention this to him too... cuz also like... heart valve wonk also affects if i wanna have bio kids#(also doctor that deals with babies may know of a different gene place i can go to bc im on waitlists lol)#wow i lik....e.... kermit... this is not fair LOL...#i should just trust the lung doctor... but i will ask my hooha doctor about what the lung doctor said to be safe LOL#personal
