Caleb: (flashbacks to their childhood and the temper tantrums Philip threw everytime someone suggested he needed sleep - yelling “I don’t need a nap!” over and over) I see... twenty years and nothing’s changed

Headcanon that Philip used to throw tantrums whenever Caleb tried to put him to bed - Caleb always managed but they had to go through the same spiel everytime. Also that he was really messed up from sleep deprivation when he finally encountered Caleb on the Isles, which contributed to how everything went down

my favourite little owl house headcanon is that initially when the wittebanes arrived in gravesfield, the villagers actually suspected philip of being a witch/demon child.

i think philip was probably an odd child who struggled to fit in, and at a time where people were so suspicious of anyone who was "different", that would have been dangerous for him. caleb got worried for philip's safety and so tried his absolute hardest to get philip into christianity and witch hunting and discourage his weirder habits, as a way to take the heat off him. it worked, and philip got really enthusiastic about witch hunting, but of course that backfires on caleb big time later on.........

it would also make philip even more of a dark mirror for luz if this turns out to be even somewhat true. caleb was worried abt philip not fitting in, as camila was worried abt luz. however, where luz eventually rejected conformity and the standards of her time, philip embraced it..........

(edit 26/10/22: changed the wording from "theory" to "headcanon" because it felt more fitting here)

Been thinking about TOH again and sometimes I wonder what my old wittebane mutuals are up to.

I can still recognise usernames, all the AUs, the analyses, the era where we knew nothing about the wittebane brothers and thought Philip was more like Luz.

It’s strange, I remember when the wittebane community was small, when there was no brother, and then suddenly it blew up, and it was great. I kinda miss it in a way, and I think that’s what I miss the most about TOH. It was probably one of the nicest communities I’ve been in all things considered, even if like half the fandom hated us.

So, If any old wittebane mutual is seeing this, I hope you’re doing great.

(This is hunting-at-least-69-witches and I can’t believe that used to be my username. Iconic.)

Parallels between the brothers Grimm and Wittebanes?

saw this image of the brothers Grimm and immediately thought back to this.

There were two brothers, Jacob and Willhelm. They lived in the late 1700s, which is a century or two off from the Wittebanes. their father was called Philipp Wilhelm Grimm, and died when the boys were ten and eleven. Their mother Dorothea instilled devout religious values within the household.

Already you can see parallels. Jacob is the name of the historian, obsessed with witch hunting and conspiracies etc. Perhaps this will link in to them being related, though i doubt he will play any part in what is left of the show because of time reasons. Philipp, the father, one letter off from the main antagonist of the show is, i think, mostly a coincidence. However the fact that the mother instilled very christian values is definitely reflected in the show.

The two brothers differed in temperament—Jacob was introspective and Wilhelm was outgoing. Jacob was the eldest living son, forced at age 11 to quickly assume adult responsibilities (shared with Wilhelm) for the next two years due to the death of their father. The two brothers then followed the advice of their grandfather, who continually exhorted them to be industrious.

By then they were without a male provider (their grandfather died that year), forcing them to rely entirely on each other and become exceptionally close.

After graduation from the Friedrichsgymnasium, the brothers attended the University of Marburg. The university was small with about 200 students, and there they became painfully aware that students of lower social status were not treated equally. They were disqualified from admission because of their social standing and had to request dispensation to study law. Wealthier students received stipends, but the brothers were excluded even from tuition aid. Their poverty kept them from student activities or university social life.

yeah i can't be bothered to analyse all that but there's lots of parallels and links between them and i haven't seen anyone point it out yet :)

Thanks To Them Week Day 6 - Sadness

Have some nice, gutwrenching Fullmetal Alchemist parallels. The Owl House Wiki mentioned that Philip’s first Grimwalker apparently died on the spot (no idea where this was mentioned). How do I have to imagine this? Did it just fall over dead, or did it go full messed up human transmutation, with protruding ribs and spitting up it’s innards? Either way part of the drama comes from the fact that it just didn’t look enough like Caleb (the hair thing is from the fma manga but it would also be very noticeable upon inspection)
