The Morning Routine( broke Edition)
Makeup and skin care have been a hype amongst the gen z and the millennials these days.
Both of them are equivalently important depending upon your point of view
Makeup has been perceived very inappropriately by the consumers because of some false internet trends and indirect beauty standards which haven’t been scripted anywhere
For me makeup is
Tools for enhancing an individual’s natural glow by applying products matching their skin tone using Color theory .
Skin care on the other side is important for maintaining your natural skin with respect to the environment we live in . And it’s an essential investment to be done for a healthier skin in long term .
Why have I named this routine THE BROKE EDITION?
Skin care and makeup is for all and thanks to social media people are breaking the barriers .
But makeup for all should be ‘For Everyone’ in economic sense too !
This is a fact that quality and brand name goes hand in hand in the beauty industry but nobody talks about the price point in India .
500 rupees if you spend for your makeup and skin care you barely get any good products.
So does this mean everyone should stop having a routine if it doesn’t fit in the budget?
NO !
In this routine I’ve picked out products that are budget friendly and effective quality wise
And this routine is simple and time saving .
Note - my skin type is Dry and blackhead prone so I’ve used the products accordingly. Before following any kind of routine you see online beaware of your Skin type !
STEP 1
Take an ice cube and gently apply it all over your face in circular motion for 30 seconds
This will tighten your skin and prep it for the steps ahead and wake you up ! It also helps with the puffiness under the eyes
Tumblr media
STEP 2
Washing your face or cleansing is really important in order to keep your skin clean and clear free from bacteria and clogged pores
For this step I’m going to use
Nivea Face wash
This face wash is good because it comes in different variants according to your preferred skin type and it has micro beads in it which gives mild exfoliation to your skin
Take a pea sized amount of the product on the palm of your hand
Mix it up with a drop or two of water
Rub it between the two palms
It will form a lather
Gently apply it on your face and neck and massage it in circular motion for about 30 seconds
Rinse it off and pat dry
Tumblr media
STEP 3
Moisturising your skin is important to keep it hydrated and soft
I use the Nivea crème moisturizer because it’s lightweight and non sticky
Tumblr media
Step 4
This step is optional but necessary if you’re a person who often gets sunburns
I apply this Himalaya Aloe Vera face gel to prevent sun burns as I’m out for a longer period of time and sometimes I do tend to forget to reapply my spf and this really helps with that
You can also use this step other way around
You can cut the aloe Vera leaf from the plant you grow at home or somewhere nearby if you find
You can extract the get from the leaf by cutting it in cross section
You can directly apply it on your skin
Or freeze it up and apply on your skin as a prep just like the first step !
Tumblr media
STEP 5
Living in India most of the time we’re exposed to the sun and its harmful UV rays . Our skin is vulnerable to it and therefore it’s important to protect our skin with SPF or sunscreen
I use the Photostable sunscreen because it suits me . You can use the one which suits your skin but make sure the sunscreen does not leave a white cast on your face after application
Tumblr media
STEP 6
As I mentioned earlier for me makeup is enhancing your natural skin
So I’m gonna use a tinted moisturiser of maybelline newyork in shade 05
Shake the bottle really well and take a pea size amount of the product
Use your fingertips and gently blend the product in your under eyes or wherever you feel like
Tumblr media
STEP 7
I’m gonna take my liquid lipstick or you can use a drugstore tinted lip balm like this Lakmé lip balm
Take a little bit of product on your fingertips and apply it on your cheekbones and nose you may apply on your eyes and lips too !
Tumblr media
STEP 8
I really love putting mascara on my lashes but all of the mascaras I have used till date be it the high end or drugstore , at a point when you sweat , it spreads across your eyelids and under eyes
So I’m gonna take some Vaseline and apply it over my lashes
This naturally adds the lifting effect on my eye
Tumblr media
STEP 9
Hydrating your lips is super super important so a lip balm or something as simple as coconut oil can be applied on your lips
I use the Nivea lip balm for it
STEP 10
Voila the routine is complete almost…..one last thing , affirmation !
Just look in the mirror say it out loud
"I’m Enough , I’m worthy and beautiful"
Tumblr media
Hope you enjoyed reading my routine !

Skin Care Tips That Will Make You Beautiful
New Post has been published on http://innersoulhealthandbeautyreviews.com/skin-care-tips-that-will-make-you-beautiful-14/
Skin Care Tips That Will Make You Beautiful
Usually it is women who worry about skin care, but men are becoming more aware of the importance of good skin, too. There are multitudes of products on the market which were created to improve or preserve skin. Probably, the most effective product line is sun protection for everyone no matter the age.
When caring for your skin, don’t forget about the areas immediately around the eyes. These areas require special moisturizing treatments, since this skin does not produce its own oil like the rest of your face. A nightly treatment with an eye area cream can keep unsightly wrinkles from forming around the eyes.
If you don’t already have a moisturizing routine for your skin, make one. Even people with oily skin should moisturize daily to keep their skin as healthy as possible. People who already moisturize should be careful not to over moisturize. Applying moisturizer more than once a day is excessive, as well as, damaging to your skin.
To maintain healthy skin, it is important to manage your stress well. Overwhelming stress can cause sensitivity to develop in your skin. This sensitivity create a breeding ground for acne. Take time out of your life for stress management and you will see the results in your complexion.
To avoid breakouts or discoloration of your skin, never go to bed with your makeup on. Even oil-free makeup can clog pores and affect the tone and clarity of your skin. If you just do not have the energy to give your face a thorough wash after a long day, then stock up on cleanser cloths. One quick swipe could make all the difference.
To prevent breakouts of acne, try using facial care products that come in a spray-on applicator. This will keep you from transferring bacteria, oils and potentially irritating substances from your hands to your face while applying things like sunscreen or moisturizer. Having a more bacteria-free face can in turn reduce your chances of developing pimples.
If you suffer from dry skin, there are things you should watch out for. Make sure the temperature of your bath water is not too hot because it will strip the moisture from your body. Avoid bubble baths as these can strip your skin of the oils required for hydration. When done in the bath, pat dry instead of rubbing and never skip the moisturizer.
In general, if your skin isn’t complaining, use as few products on it as possible. And those you do choose should be suited to your skin type and should never irritate. Many people with perfectly happy skin have created their own problems by purchasing a “line” of products, each with a specific purpose, when in fact they would be better served by keeping it plain and simple.
A beautiful tan is very attractive, but the sun can do real damage to skin over an extended period. Even if skin cnncer does not develop, the skin will beocme wrinkled and dry and become less attractive. There are effective self-tanning products which will produce a lovely natural looking tan without damage to the skin.

Skincare Tips for Your 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s
Tumblr media
Once you find a skincare regimen that works for you, you stick with it forever—right? Not necessarily… Even if you’ve spent years perfecting your product lineup, you might have to change how you treat your skin as you age. The skincare concerns of a twenty-something are not the same skin issues you will have to think about as a 30 or 40-year-old. So how do you know when it’s time to make some tweaks?
Finding the right skincare regimen for you, especially as you get older, can feel like a daunting task. There are loads of different ingredients, formulations, and products that can be overwhelming to choose from. That’s why our editors have come up with a foolproof, condensed guide of easy skincare tips for your 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s. If you’re looking for skincare mantras to live by, and new rules to stick to, then you’ve come to the right place…
20’s
Start Dialing In Your Skin Routine
Now’s the time to start a proper skincare routine for morning and night time. Putting together a regimen that works for you and addresses any issues you may have is key to maintaining healthy skin. A typical routine would look like this:
Morning Routine:
Cleanser
Toner
Serum
Eye Cream
Sunblock
Nighttime Routine:
Cleanser
Toner
Exfoliant
Treatment Product
Serum
Eye Creme
Moisturizer
Be Conscious Of Your Sun Exposure & Always Wear Sunscreen
It doesn’t matter how many products you apply to your face. If you do not use sunscreen, your products aren’t going to be effective. Wearing sunscreen and reducing your sun exposure is the best way to prevent your skin from aging. So, always wear sunscreen, even when you’re not directly in the sun. UV rays can pass through windows too, and even on cloudy days {don’t let them fool you}. A general rule of thumb is to reapply sunscreen every two hours, and if you’re in direct sunlight or outside for a long period of time, hourly application is best.
You Can Never Start Prevention Products Too Early
There’s a misconception that prevention products are only for those who are older in age and that most prevention products are harsh and strong, which is not the case. Starting early with gentle retinol and Vitamin C products, like Lauren’s Vitamin C Oil, is a great way to help prevent your skin from looking dull down the line. Lauren Conrad Beauty’s Vitamin C Oil is great to help even out your skin tone, brighten your skin, and help with discoloration and dark spots.
If you begin using retinol, ease into it by choosing a gentler formulation and wearing it at night. Make sure to apply sunscreen every day too, because retinol makes your skin more susceptible to sun damage. Following directions on the bottle is very important with retinol!
Be Gentle & Let Your Skin Breathe—More Isn’t Always Better
It’s easy to think that applying a ton of actives or acids aggressively to your face will yield great results, but on the contrary, you should always be gentle with your skin and the products you use. Using harsh products isn’t the most effective treatment. If anything, it can lead to irritation, dryness, and damage to your skin barrier. When in doubt, it’s best to take a simple approach and slowly add in treatment products, if necessary. Your skin needs to breathe too.
Pro tip: Gently apply your products in an upward motion—no tugging or pulling your skin down as you slather on moisturizer—and focus on patting versus rubbing them in. These tactics are better for preventing signs of aging.
30’s
Incorporate Retinol and Hyaluronic Acid Into Your Routine
If you haven’t already, now’s the time to really add retinol to your routine. If your skin has built up a tolerance, you might be ready to add stronger formulations to your routine. Furthermore, try adding in hyaluronic acid, which helps your skin to retain water and stay hydrated throughout the day. As you age, your skin doesn’t retain as much moisture, so it’s a great ingredient to help prevent premature aging. Some of your products might already include hyaluronic acid in their formulations, but if you think you need more, then by all means, add a stand-alone product to your routine.
Use A Good Exfoliator To Help Remove Impurities
Exfoliating is so important to remove any impurities and dead skin cells from your skin. Whether you use a chemical or physical exfoliator, again, be gentle! Too much exfoliation, whether it’s an acid or a physical scrub, can irritate, dry out, and strip your skin of its natural oils.
Find A Good Eye Cream And Moisturizer
An eye cream is a must in your routine, especially if you want to combat fine lines or crow’s feet. Now is also the time to invest in a good moisturizer, one that will help to replenish your skin barrier, and hydrate your skin.
As Always, Use Sunscreen. Forever!
This one is a no-brainer.
A Little Gua Sha Never Hurts, Either
The benefits of Gua Sha, a traditional Chinese medicinal practice, are pretty impressive. The practice has been shown to help de-puff, detox, and stimulate collagen and blood flow. Make sure when you’re practicing Gua Sha, however, that you’re doing so with a serum or oil applied to your skin first.
40’s
Lock Down Your Nighttime Routine
Your skin intensely repairs itself at night, so locking down a nighttime routine is pivotal to helping your skin absorb and benefit from the products you’re using. If you need help figuring out a night routine, check out one of our articles from a few years back here.
Focus On Intensive Moisturizers and Masks
Hydrating and moisturizing your skin is so important at this age, because as we get older, our skin tends to lose its elasticity and collagen, which contributes to skin sagging and fine lines. Focus on using moisturizers and face masks that deliver higher levels of hydration to your skin.
Remember, Expensive Isn’t Always Better
More expensive products aren’t always “better,” but in some cases, more expensive products do have a higher concentration of active ingredients, so it’s something to keep in mind when you’re shopping.
More Sunscreen, Please
Sunscreen + You = A Lifelong Partnership.

My Routine for Doll Skin✨
i absolutely love having a thorough skincare routine. it makes me feel like a scientist, haha. i unfortunately have bad genetics when it comes to skin, so no amount of “drink water”, “cut out dairy and sugar”, or “manage what you eat” will ever help improve my skin. i simply need an effective routine, and here’s what works best for me.
the morning
Tumblr media
in the mornings, i usually prep my skin for the day. this means i use products that protect my skin from the UV rays, pollution, makeup, and other nasty stuff that it’ll come in contact with.
cleansing: in the morning, i do not use a cleanser. i just rinse my face with warm water.
toner: i don’t use witch hazel or any other astringents; instead, i use toners that hydrate my skin instead of drying it out. i love the kikumasamune sake high moisture toner and the pyukang yul essence toner.
serums: during the day i need serums that will adequately prepare my skin for makeup. because i’m oily, i use the ordinary’s niacinamide + zinc serum since it is great at oil control. i also have a 1% salicylic acid serum that helps with oil control as well as lightly exfoliates my skin, making it smooth and clearing my pores so my makeup has a great base. if i have recently had any acne, i use either a vitamin c serum or an alpha arbutin serum to clear up any dark spots. for those, i like the ordinary and the inkey list.
moisturizer: finally, to lock in everything i put on my face i like to use a moisturizer. even if i have oily skin, i use a moisturizer or else i’m just drying out my skin. i use light creams or gels. my favorites are the ordinary’s natural moisturizing factors, the primera watery cream, and the iunik centella gel cream.
spf: every morning, my skincare routine ends with me putting on sunscreen. when using chemical exfoliation, it’s pertinent that you use an spf afterwards because if not then it undoes all your hard work; however, even when you aren’t using chemical exfoliants you always need to wear spf because sun damage makes your skin tone uneven and you obviously don’t want skin cancer. yes, even if you are darkskinned, when you’re inside if you have sun coming in through your windows, during the winter, when it’s raining. it’s also important to use spf 30 or above and be sure to reapply every two hours. for the initial application, my favorite sunscreen is the purito green level if i’m not going to be in the sun all day. for reapplication over my makeup, i use the supergoop spf spray.
at night
Tumblr media
my skincare routine for the nighttime is focused on barrier repair and hydration. this is when i use products like chemical exfoliants because using them makes the skin more sensitive to harmful uv rays from the sun. i like to layer hydration here in order to balance out my morning routine which isn’t very hydrating.
oil cleansing: i make sure to double cleanse by using an oil cleanser first and then following up with a traditional cleanser. if you wear makeup, have oily skin, or wear spf (and you’re supposed to wear spf every single day!!!), you need to double cleanse or you’re still leaving some makeup and spf on your face, which can cause acne. i like to use the farmacy cherry balm, but i also like the oat balm from inkey list.
traditional cleansing: for my traditional cleanser, i use gel cleansers because i have really oily skin. i like to dry cleanse, which is basically rubbing the cleanser onto your skin without water for about 30 seconds before wetting my hands and continuing to cleanse my face with water for the remaining 30 seconds. yes, i wash my face for 60 seconds and so should you. we’re supposed to wash our hands for at least 30 seconds to truly clean them, so why should our faces be any different? my favorite is the glow recipe blueberry bounce gentle cleanser, but i also like the simple micellar gel wash. i remove all my cleansers with a warm, wet cloth.
chemical exfoliation: this is truly how i get my skin together. i’m a bit advanced when it comes to chemical exfoliation, so unless you’re used to it do not copy me. your skin will hate you. bha 2 days a week, retinol/differin once a week, and azelaic acid on alternating days = doll skin, period. this combo gets rid of my skin congestion, clears my pores, smooths out my skin, and gets rid of any pimples with the quickness. i use the paula’s choice 2% bha, differin, and the ordinary’s azelaic acid (or paula’s choice if i want to splurge a little).
toner: again! i’ll admit it, i put my skin through a lot as someone who wears a full face of makeup everyday and has oily skin. however, it’s important to not be constantly stripping your skin of moisture. every other product in my nighttime routine is focused on keeping my skin barrier in tact and healthy. some people like putting their toner on a cotton round and wiping it over their face to get off excess dirt, but i cleanse my skin thoroughly so that isn’t needed. i always pour a bit of toner into my hands and press it into my damp skin like a serum.
essences: this is literally just for extra hydration. essences are like toners, but they can be thicker and are always hydrating, so they feel more luxurious. my favorites are the hadalabo premium hyaluronic solution and the cosrx snail mucin essence.
serums: at night, i only use hydrating serums. i love the ordinary’s niacinamide + zinc serum at night because niacinamide not only helps with oil control but it also helps with barrier repair. i also like to use their marine hyaluronics serum. my favorite barrier repair serum is the purito centella buffet serum; as soon as i put that on, any irritation is immediately soothed. krave’s great barrier relief and paula’s choice omega complex serum are both great if you’re willing to spend a little more.
moisturizer: because i don’t have to worry about keeping my makeup on all day, i tend to go for heavier moisturizers at night. during this time, i only use moisturizers that have ingredients formulated for barrier repair, such as ceramides, centella extract, and squalane oil. i use the one kind dream cream and the cerave moisturizer in a tub.
occlusive: an occlusive is what i put on my face during the night so i wake up with soft, plump skin and don’t suffer from tewl, or trans-epidermic water loss. if you wake up with skin on the dry side, you should probably put on an occlusive at night. i used to use a facial oil, but i found that it wasn’t occlusive enough for me. now i use the cerave healing ointment, but plain vaseline works well, too.
weekly
Tumblr media
here are the things that aren’t needed more than once a week for me. these are all either addressing issues that i don’t have as often, for special occasions, or could even be detrimental if done too often.
face shaving: i do not do at-home dermaplaning, but i do use an eyebrow razor to tackle my mustache area and in-between my brows. i also shape/tweeze my eyebrows and tweeze wherever else needed at this step.
masks: depending on where i’m going or what my goal is, i usually use either a sheet mask, a hydrogel mask, or a clay mask. sheet masks are honestly just hydrating serums, and i like to do these in the winter when i’m feeling especially dry. i use hydrogel masks tend to target certain areas such as the under eyes or lips. when i need my makeup to last a very long time or i’m about to go on a really important event, i use clay masks to completely mattify my face. when removing clay masks, i like to use a hydrating spray (my toner in a spray bottle) to make the mask wet again so i don’t tug on my skin as much during the removal process.
spot treating: i don’t get pimples often anymore, but when i do i like to get rid of them asap. i don’t pop my pimples because it’s unsanitary for a number of reasons, but i do understand the urge to pick at them. that’s why i put a spot treatment on them. i use zapzyt which is a 10% benzoyl peroxide acne treatment gel or the sulfur spot treatment from face reality. if my pimple accidentally does “pop”, i clean the area and quickly put an acne patch on it. i love the peace out acne dots with salicylic acid and the hydro-stars from star-face.
lip care: especially now that winter is coming up, it is important to not have dry, nasty, cracked lips. i use a lip scrub to exfoliate all the dead skin off, then apply an overnight lip mask. the lip scrub i use is the seraphine botanicals orange + cream lip polish. my favorite lip masks are the tarte sea jelly glaze lip masks and the laneige lip sleeping masks. obviously, throughout the day i wear lip balm and while i really love the jack black intense therapy lip balm and the dior lip glow balm, i only use vaseline now for medical reasons.

I’m mad about Hunter being written off and here’s why you should be too
You: wasted potential.
Me, an intellectual: ah, Hunter and Nicola’s friendship
I have strong opinions about Hunter.
Yeah, you heard me right.
Look, I have strong opinions about many, many, things. Today, we are taking a dive on Hunter and Nicola. First I’d like to blame this post on Kate, as I decided to make it after I tried to articulate why Hunter being written off TCY makes me so angry in a huge comment under her latest OTK post but it ended up being too big and messy so I deleted it. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone elaborate on it, so if you were also mad about this, bro, not to be intense, but like, are we soulmates or...??
Before anything else, as I usually do with my text posts (which I haven’t done in a while, opsies), I shall provide you with arguably unnecessary context. Sit down, grab yourself some snacks, make yourself at home, I’m about to rant you into oblivion.
Since I know many accounts weren’t around back then, I’ll also give you the socio-political vibes of the time period, as any self-respecting half-baked essay written last minute should.
POV, you’re 14/15 year-old me. You flat iron your hair, you don’t use sunscreen, you think you’re straight and your school makes you wear those horrid low rise uniform pants, but at least you can somewhat do your make-up decently now that you grew out of your emo phase.
The year was 2016. The Ever Never Handbook has just come out. You re-watch the handbook trailer on youtube for the fifteenth time. Everyone is losing their minds over OcTObeR 14tH and “a student named Agatha ~ now Agatha of Camelot~”, as well as the portraits and the teasing for a new SGE book. Quests For Glory is announced just a few days later. 2016 tagatha ship week happens a few months down the line.
This is the SGE Tumblr Fandom Peak.
Now, let’s start right there, two-ish weeks after the release of the Handbook, right as the QFG announcement comes out.
We all knew Soman wasn’t done with SGE after TLEA. He definitely had been teasing something in his weekly blogs (lol, remember when I used to check the blog, what a time to be alive) and once we got the ENH, we got quite lot of info to theorize. Here’s some that I can think off the top of my head:
- The coven was going on a mission to find a new School Master.
- Tedros and Agatha were struggling financially in Camelot but were going to get married soon (even if Sophie doubted Tedros would have asked Agatha yet, as of the time of the Ever Never RoundTable, but we’re taking that with a grain of salt, because she was written to sound jealous here, and I won’t acknowledge that kinda of bs, she is happy for her friends okay, we’ve been though this-)
- Sophie had completely remodeled the School For Evil and was getting on Dovey and the rest of the faculty’s nerves (except for newly hired history teacher, Hort).
- The rest of the supporting cast had just graduated third year and was to be off in quests soon.
- The School was now accepting applications, and two of those applicants are Nicola and Bogden.
Now, I’m not even gonna bring up how it was mentioned in a video in EverNeverTv that Bogden would be an important character in TCY, and yet, I can’t think of anything relevant about him other than the fact that he knew tarot apparently, or how his application had more personality than him in the entire series, or how he was basically there so we could look at him and Willam and be like “oh, representation”, or how he’d be a good insight on how Galvadon perceives Sophie and Agatha post-TLEA, or- I’m just not gonna.
Oh, no. Instead, we are here to discuss Nicola’s application.
If your memory is foggy, let me remind you:
Nicola’s application is submitted, according to the Handbook, by her friend, Hunter. For convenience sake, we’ll assume Hunter is a guy (I’ll tell you why Hunter being a guy works better for me in a bit), but his gender is not mentioned anywhere in the ENH. I don’t think he has been gendered in any version (correct me if I’m wrong) or if there are any pronouns for him during TCY, but I’m fairly confident he isn’t mentioned at all.
Hunter tells us he is applying on Nic’s behalf, as she’d never apply for herself. He mentions that she is more or less the Galvadon equivalent of an activist for women’s rights, founding a rugby unisex team and campaigning for pants instead of skirts for the local school uniform, as well as having a feminist sounding book as her favorite book. It’s heavily implied that she is a jock, as he lists that, if marooned on a desert island, Nicola would want to have a soccer ball, a hockey stick and a set of dumbbells (“and none of this 5-lb nonsense”) with her.
Upon asked why Nicola should go to the school, his answer is: “because there’s a greater place for her in the world, where she can learn a girl’s true worth, and I don’t think it’s here.”
Then you have a note from (*rolls eyes* *suppresses a gag* *tears hair out*) the very late, long, long gone, absolutely dead, August Sader, telling the Deans to accept her application, despite having no reason to do so, as Nicola was to “play a crucial role in it’s [the school’s] survival.” Dovey and Sophie agree to flip a coin to decide which school will take her, which Sophie must have lost, as Nicola is accepted into the School For Evil.
By now, I think we all agree that Nicola was done dirty. If you check my QFG re-read you’ll notice that I complained about her there. As I had to go though her introduction chapter again to make this post, let me tell you why: Nicola wasn’t written to be likeable.
She simply wasn’t. That’s the one conclusion I can draw. Whether that’s intentional or not, I can’t tell, but the backlash she received was fairly useful, as it meant Soman could write her off the main story without much backlash from his target audience (aka, not us, pesky pretentious older readers).
The Nicola I was introduced to, not only in the Handbook but on her trailer for QFG was not the girl on QFG.
Nic is there to be the smart  girl™, and while I do appreciate having a character who is a bit cocky about their brains, it just doesn’t work well there. Because her bond to other characters and the way she earns their respect feels so weak, she just comes across as pretentious. Characters like Hester and Agatha, who are supposed to be smart, feel dumbed down to show us how clever Nicola is. Agatha is supposed to be the resourceful thinker and Hester wanted to be class captain, you bet she studied like crazy, she probs knows every fairytale in existence.
Then you add that to the (*rolls eyes* *suppresses a gag* *tears hair out*) Nicola and Hort fiasco and Nic feels like a weirdly written OC insert.
Handbook!Nicola sounded like a smart jock kind of character (read, more Gryffindor than Ravenclaw). Handbook!Nic was a Reader who read the tales as a hobby, but her favorite book is not a tale, it’s a non-fiction book (as far as I can tell). She might not be the fairytale expert, but she sounds like a practical thinker, as sport requires strategy, which is not Hester’s strong suit, given she is rather impulsive, or Agatha’s, given she is often unwilling to make hard decisions due to her Good nature and her own insecurities. C’mon, Handbook!Nic would have taken one look at Hort and sent him running to hills, because she would be able to smell his bs three miles away. She’s no one’s replacement, least of all Sophie’s (whom she probably would not have gotten along with (at least they got this part right) given Sophie’s “my prince will sweep me away from an ordinary life” phylosophy). To be honest she doesn’t sound like she’d be interested in dating at all.
But this post is about Hunter right? Let me remind you, Hunter is not mentioned in Nicola’s introduction, when she talks about her life in Galvadon. Canon!Nicola tells us that she has two brothers who want to inherit her father’s pub in order to sell the place, but Nicola is close with her father and likes working there to some extent, even if she has bigger ambitions. She believes her brothers sent her application as a way to get rid of her.
Back when I still had some faith that Soman had an arc for Nicola that included resolution, I had my theories as to why she wouldn’t mention Hunter: maybe he was to appear in later books and they’d have a huge backstory explaining their friendship, as well as a dramatic confession that Hunter sent her application because he felt Nicola deserved to live an adventure, and Nicola would either realize that she was meant for something more or that she wanted to live a quiet life, honestly either would be nice. I would have taken anything. Truly, if Nicola’s k-pop boyfriend in the OTK epilogue had been replaced with Hunter, I might be able to hate it less.
Especially if they came to the (*rolls eyes* *suppresses a gag* *tears hair out*) school wedding as friends. Because you know what?
We are starved for male-female friendships in the SGE universe.
Tedros’s only female friends (all his friends in general) are Agatha’s friends (who all tried to get rid of him at some point, save for maybe Dot) and his actual friends are all dead (Bettina/Chaddick). Hort could be counted as Agatha’s friend, if only he didn’t bash her every five seconds like a moron (he literally pitched the idea that Agatha should be executed by Tedros in OTK, just because he was envious or her relationship with Sophie (not jealous, envious, because Sophie wasn’t his to begin with)) over his delusional sense entitlement of Sophie’s affections (which I hate, but as this is not a Hort-bashing post, I won’t get too much into), but the coven, Beatrix, Renna and co. would not touch him with a stick. Merlin’s friendship with Lady Of The Lake is gone, and Dovey is dead. Rhian and Kei both had that frenemies thing with Sophie in ACOT/beggining of OTK, but I think it was supposed to be romantic? It wasn’t ew (I hate Rhian but he’s also wasted potential, and so was Kei, whom I liked, rest in peace). Japeth hates women for??? Whatever. Willam and Bodgen are such background characters I could not care less about them. The new students weren’t memorable enough for me to remember their names. I think this about covers the main male cast.
There’s a lack of male friendships too, but we kinda have (*rolls eyes* *suppresses a gag* *tears hair out*) Tort and whatever was that rushed Tedros/Chaddick friendship.  Rhian and Kei were gay friends (yeah, right, sure, very platonic). Tedros and Rhian could have been friends if Rhian redeemed himself, but otherwise no. Tedros and Filip… gay. Japeth literally killed Rhian, so also not very good friendship between brothers. Hort has no friends, because Ravan would so not be here for his bs. Willam and Bogden are a couple and (*rolls eyes* *suppresses a gag* *tears hair out*) so were Aric and Japeth, I guess.
Still don’t believe Hunter was wasted potential? Okay, let me tell you what my ideal Nicola arc would be, mixing Handbook!Nicola with some canon!Nicola and including Hunter.
- Nicola is the one inheriting the pub (once she gets married), despite Galvadon’s pre-TLEA sexism and conservative views, because she is her father’s only child and her brothers are actually her older half-siblings from her mother’s previous marriage.
- Her mom died at some point early in her childhood. Not a childbirth tho, because Callis, local witch gynecologist (have you checked my post on this yet? no? you should) was there for her, even if it was a high risk pregnancy because the mom was already older.
- Because of that, Nicola’s father actually sells bread to Callis for cheaper prizes, but don’t tell the elders, shhh
- Anyway, because her mom was gone so early, Nicola was raised by her dad, brothers and by the employees (mostly men, as I don’t think it was all that common for women to work jobs in Galvadon) of her father’s pub. Due to being a girl, most guys weren’t willing to befriend her (sexism, am I right), but because she was a tomboy she had difficulty bonding with the other girls at school, even when they weren’t outright hostile (cof cof Sophie).
- Example: she and Belle had a tentative bond over their love of cooking, but often ran out of things to talk about and the conversation fell flat.
- Which is how she ends up befriending Hunter.
- Hunter is the only boy in a family of many girls and his father works all day. He has a good heart and is rather emotional, but he always feels like he has something to prove, which leads him to being rather impulsive. Both Nicola and Hunter love sports and are very competitive people. Once Nicola gains his respect, he feels very protective of her and often feels the need to stand up for her, even if she doesn’t need it.
- Nicola knows Hunter feels overlooked in his family, so she is always inviting him over and taking care of him, keeping him out of trouble. Her father begins to see him as his own son, and soon he spends more time at Nicola’s house than at his own.
- Everyone thinks they’ll get married some day. His sisters tease him mercilessly about it, and so does Nic’s father, but frankly, Nic and Hunter see each other as family.
- You can bet Hunter is the one teaching Nic about periods after asking his sisters, so she wouldn’t have to suffer with Galvadon’s horrid Sex Ed. (go check the Callis headcanon’s okay, give me clout, that it my favorite post I’ve ever made)
- They tried to kiss once. Nicola vomited and Hunter gaged.
- Hunter is Nicola’s number one supporter and fan, 100% had those gender-equality pins she made for her campaigns all over his bags and jackets.
- Since most wedding matches are arranged by the elders before girls even graduate, it was settled that Nic and Hunter would get married to each other and then inherit the pub. It would of course, be a secretly platonic match and they would suspiciously have no children (Nicola even had a plan to visit Callis to get a potion for infertility, just in case the elders wanted to check on her... okay, I’ll stop).
- Hunter doesn’t tell her, but Nicola knows he wants to marry for love and have a family of his own. She tries to talk him out of marrying her, but he insists that he would be doing it out of love for her, even if not romantic, because Nic didn’t deserve to be matched up with some stranger she barely knows who would no doubt be less tolerant of her more radical views.
- She tells him it’d be fine for him to have a affairs then, but he insists he would never do that to her, because people would talk about Nic if that was the case and her reputation would be ruined.
- The night of Sophie and Agatha kidnapping Nicola tells him she would rather be taken to the School than to stay there and make him live an unhappy life.
- Hunter is horrified (remember, everyone thought going to the school was a fate worse than death) and makes her promise to never treat her life so fickly.
- Sophie and Agatha get taken, come back, but during Tedros’ reign of terror in Galvadon, right before they return to the Woods, Nicola’s father grows very very sick.
- Nic thinks he’s going to die, and she frets, not only because they’re close but also because she can’t inherit the place if she doesn’t marry Hunter. But, well, she sort of always knew, but now that feels very real, she thought she had some more time before that.
- They set a date for the wedding, but thankfully, Tedros and Agatha’s escape ends up causing the ceremony to be delayed.
- By the time the new date is set, there’s no more elders and Stefan is now mayor.
- But just because he is the mayor doesn’t mean the law and the sexism is gone overnight.
- Nic’s father is getting somewhat better, but she is still very worried about him, because of his old age.
- Once SGE starts having applications and has been proved to be, well, somewhat safe, Hunter suggests that Nicola applies, but after the scare that she might lose her father sooner rather than later, she tells him she can’t bring herself to leave him.
- Hunter doesn’t want her to throw her life away, specially now knowing that in the Endless Woods there were people like her and that progress would get there before it ever got to Galvadon
- (He also wants to not marry someone he views as a sister, pls).
- So he files her application in secret.
- Nicola gets accepted, upon Sader’s request and Sophie’s bad luck, into the School For Evil. She and Sophie still don’t get along, the Evil castle rejects her and she gets pushed to Good, becoming an Ever, but she’s only staying until Christmas, because she is worried sick about her father.
- She thinks the application was a plot from her brothers because she doesnt think Hunter would ever betray her trust like that, after she specifically told him she wouldn't go.
- There’s no Hicola, instead, she and Hort become friends and she talks him out of his delusions with Sophie, because as much as Nicola dislikes her, Sophie was a girl too, and deserved to have her feelings respected.
- She also punches Hort into giving up his envy of Tedros and Agatha while at it, because she is just that efficient.
- Everything else up to OTK can be pretty much the same because I can’t remember what happens, other than everytime Nicola is smart girl™, it’s not “because she reads”, but because she is practical.
- Example: on the boat scene where she very pretentiously sasses Agatha for not saying hello to her (canon!Nicola, girl, she just suffered six months of loneliness at Camelot because Tedros shut her out and is now on a quest to save her happy ending, probs didn’t get much sleep, maybe cut her some slack) and then tells her how to sail a boat (despite the fact that there are no boats in Galvadon and I’m sure you can’t just read Peter Pan and learn to sail a boat, unless I did it wrong or something, maybe the storian version comes with a crash course). Here, instead, Nicola presses Hort (who is a pirate’s son) to remember literally anything to help them (therefore making him not completely useless on this quest), and he does and they tell Agatha and she’s like sure and does it.
- Now, in OTK, I literally can’t remember where Nicola was for most of it and I read that book not too long ago, so I’m worried.
- Okay, so, have the Knights Of Eleven actually serve some purpose, include a scene where Tedros and Nicola stress-play rugby and get her some internal conflict.
- Nic now loves this world. She just spent the last few weeks fighting to protect it. She is now a Knight, and she loves the adventures and the new friends she made. Can she really go back to Gavaldon to take care of a pub? Well, she needs to, doesn’t she? That’s what a good daughter would do.
- After Japeth’s execution, Nic goes straight home.
- Her father’s condition is stable, as he is being treated by Hunter and his new wife.
- Oh boy, Hunter has some explaining to do.
- Nicola is furious that he broke her trust, but at the same time, she’s happy he’s happy and well, Hunter what do you have to say for yourself?
- “Damn, Nic, nice armour- ouch, my arm!”
- Apparently, since Nicola was taken, Stefan approved a law for people to be able to leave their inheritance to whomever they wanted. And since Nic was gonna be at the Woods, her father was more than happy to leave it to Hunter. Of course, unless Nicola wanted to stay at Gavaldon.
- Does she? She’s not sure.
- Hunter and Nicola attend the tagatha wedding at Camelot (what, like I wasn’t gonna fix this part?), Hunter is Nic’s plus one.
- There, Hester, Anadil and Dot show her Sader’s note, and ask her, not to become School Master, but to become Dean Of Good, because she would be perfect for the new brand of Good to match Sophie’s Evil. You know, since she is all for gender-equality, good manners, practicality and was particularly good at dealing with Sophie’s bs.
- Since Tedros has the Storian Ring, the pen doesn’t need actual protection, well, not more than it can get from Nic and Sophie.
- Sophie herself insists that Nicola accept the position, not because she doesn’t want to be alone at the school now that Hort and Dovey are dead, no, of course not, since when did Sophie ever need anyone, she was just asking cause… cause Nicola looked lonely. The pretty boy who came with her was not her boyfriend, was he? Sophie was prettier than him anyway. Who needs a boy when they can have her?
- Whether they become a couple or not, I’ll let you decide.
- Bonus: years later, Hunter’s eldest daughter is accepted at the School for Good. Nicola is her godmother, and her favoritism shows.
There, if nothing else, the reason you should be mad about Hunter and the Handbook in general is because this didn’t happen.

Sunscreen: What Everyone Needs to Know
Sunscreen: What Everyone Needs to Know
📷
As we head into summer, many people are looking forward to sunny beach days, afternoon barbeques, and relaxing by the pool. Since most of us spent summer 2020 cooped up inside, we’re all excited to get out and enjoy the outdoors.
After many grueling months of dealing with COVID-19, your mind is probably overwhelmed by all the preventative measures we take to avoid the virus. However, you shouldn’t neglect another important safety measure: sunscreen.
The sun is the source of all life, and it’s essential to our mental and physical health. The sun keeps our vitamin D levels up and plays a central role in regulating our sleep patterns via our circadian rhythm. Sunshine can also boost your mood. However, you can get too much of a good thing, and this is certainly true of the sun!
You already know that too much sun exposure can cause skin cancer. It can also damage your skin, causing premature aging, sun spots, and dryness. Extreme sunburn is not just painful – it can cause blisters and long-term damage to your skin. And since your skin is your largest organ, protecting it is essential for your overall health and wellbeing.
Here are a few tips for being sun-safe this summer.
Do I really need sunscreen?
Yes. No matter who you are and what your lifestyle is like, you need sunscreen. Even if you never burn, or have a dark complexion, or don’t spend a lot of time outdoors, you should be applying your sunscreen every day.
Sunscreen works by preventing the sun’s ultraviolet rays – namely UVA and UVB rays – from damaging your skin. These rays are responsible for sunburn. They can also cause skin cancer, pigmentation, wrinkles, and dry skin, as well as a range of other skin conditions.
Since we’re all prone to the above issues, we all need to wear sunscreen on a daily basis.
Do I need to wear sunscreen if I have a darker complexion?
A common myth is that people with a darker complexion don’t need sunscreen. As a result of this myth, there’s something called the “sunscreen gap,” where people with darker skin tones are less likely to use or be prescribed sunscreen than people with lighter skin tones.
While skin cancer is less prevalent in people with darker complexions, it can happen, and when it does, it tends to be diagnosed at a later stage. Because of these widespread myths, individuals with darker skin tones are more likely to be diagnosed with advanced-stage melanoma and more likely to die from melanoma.
In addition to skin cancer, sun exposure can also cause premature wrinkles, sun spots, and dry skin in people of all complexions. So, although someone with a darker complexion might not burn as easily as someone with a lighter complexion, everyone should take steps to prevent sun damage.
Do I need to wear sunscreen if I’m indoors all day?
What if you’re not going outside that much? Even if you’ll be stuck inside the office all summer, it’s important to apply and reapply sunscreen.
Many skin care experts advise everyone to wear sunscreen, even when they’re inside all day. UVA rays can actually penetrate through windows, which can lead to skin cancer and premature aging.
Of course, your chances of sun damage decrease significantly when you’re indoors – but that’s no reason to skip the SPF.
Which sunscreen should I choose?
If you head into any drug store or beauty store, you’ll probably be overwhelmed by the number of sunscreens available. Not sure which sunscreen to use? Here’s a quick breakdown of your options.
Pro tip: Stock up on sunscreen in winter, when it’s more affordable. They often go on sale in the fall, so you might be able to get a few at a good discount.
Which SPF should I use?
You should opt for an SPF of at least 30, preferably more. Products with a higher SPF tend to be stickier, so you might be tempted to go for a lower SPF – but don’t! If you don’t like the sticky texture of lotion, opt for a spray-on, powder, or gel variety.
If you’re in the sun a lot, go for SPF 50 or higher. The available research shows that SPF 100 is far better than SPF 50 when it comes to protecting your skin against sun damage and burns.
Mineral or chemical?
In general, you get two kinds of sunscreen: mineral (also called physical) and chemical. Technically, all matter is made up of chemicals, including the healthy stuff in your sunscreens, so we’re moving towards calling them organic and inorganic.
Inorganic sunscreens, also known as mineral or physical sunscreens, contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These form a barrier on top of the skin to deflect UVA and UVB rays. Some research suggests they actually soak up the UV rays so that they can’t harm the skin. Most inorganic sunscreens leave a white sheen behind.
Organic sunscreens, also known as chemical sunscreens, are absorbed into the skin instead of sitting on top. They cause a chemical reaction that converts UV rays into heat so that your skin won’t get damaged.
Both kinds of sunscreen work. However, if you find that one kind is making your skin itch, opt for the other kind.
Fun fact: “sunscreen” and “sunblock” are often used interchangeably, but sunscreen tends to refer to organic sun protection while sunblock refers to inorganic sun protection. With that said, even industry experts use both terms to refer to the same thing.
Lotion, spray, gel, or powder?
Sunscreens come in so many different varieties nowadays. You get SPF in the form of regular lotions and spray-on liquids (which are great for full-body applications and ideal for wriggling kids). Gel products tend to be ideal for the face, as is brush-on powder SPF.
All of the above are fine, so you should opt for what feels better for you. If you find it easier to use a spray-on sunscreen, for example, choose that – the easier and nicer it feels, the more likely you are to use and reapply it.
And on this topic, you’ll also find that there are a lot of SPF-rich lip balms. It’s a very good idea to use these regularly to prevent dry and sun-damaged lips.
Other considerations for sunscreen
Nowadays, you can find sunscreens that are specifically formulated for different skin types. You might opt for a cheaper, drugstore-variety sunscreen for your body, and a special one for your face. You’ll find sunscreen for oily skin, dry skin, acne-prone skin, and sensitive skin.
Most sunscreens have a white-ish sheen that doesn’t totally absorb into the face, so you can also be on the lookout for those that dry on clear!
Top tips for using sunscreen
Buying a top-quality sunscreen is important – but in order for it to work its magic, you need to use it properly.
Stick to the following tips for using sunscreen:
You should reapply sunscreen every few hours. If you’re outside, reapply it at least every two hours. Inside, you can probably get away with reapplying it less often. Also, even waterproof sunscreen should be reapplied after you swim.
Some face creams and makeup have an SPF. While this can be helpful for added protection, you shouldn’t neglect your sunscreen.
Although you’d associate sunscreen with summer, it’s important to use sunscreen in winter too – even on overcast, dark days. The sun’s UV rays are constantly working, even when it’s chilly.
Layer your sunscreen properly! Organic (chemical) sunscreens should be put on first, underneath your moisturizer. Inorganic (physical/mineral) sunscreens should be put on after your moisturizer.
Use a reminder. If you forget to use and reapply your sunscreen, keep your sunscreen in a place where you’ll see it, like on your desk or by your toothbrush. You could also set an alarm on your phone to remind you to reapply your sunscreen regularly.
If you have highly sensitive skin, or if you’re still burning despite using a high-SPF product, speak to your GP or dermatologist.
How else can I prevent sun damage?
Beyond using a decent, high-SPF sunscreen, there are a few more steps you can take to be sun-safe this summer.
Limit your time in the sun
Although you still need to use SPF indoors, it’s much safer inside than outside. Enjoy your time soaking up the sun, but avoid spending all of your time outdoors every day. At the beach, pool, or park, use a decent UV-blocking umbrella for shade. Limit your time in the sun to a few hours at a time maximum, with breaks to sit in the shade.
Cover up
Although summer is the time for short skirts and swimsuits, it’s wise to cover up when you’re in the sun. Get a decent hat, a comfortable T-shirt, or robe-style coverup to wear at the beach or pool. This is especially important if you’re in the sun for a long period of time.
Bear in mind that clothing is not a substitute for SPF. It’s possible to burn through a normal T-shirt. You do, however, get special UV-blocking clothing and swimwear, which is worth the investment if you plan to be in the sun a lot this summer.
Don’t forget your eyes!
Your skin isn’t the only thing that you need to be concerned about. Your eyes can be damaged by the sun’s ultraviolet rays, which can cause both short-term and long-term damage. This is called photokeratitis, or ultraviolet keratitis.
Quality sunglasses offer UV protection. You should opt for glasses that block or absorb 99 to 100 percent of UV rays. Give your eyes a break every so often by spending some time indoors.
Drink water frequently
This is a good rule for life, but it’s especially important in hot weather. If you’re spending time outside this summer, keep a big bottle of cool water on hand. Not only is water important for maintaining the health of your skin, it can also prevent you from dehydrating in the heat. Dehydration can lead to headaches and a range of health issues.
Using sunscreen is something we should all be doing: it’s a relatively simple way to protect your health and wellbeing. This summer, be sure to grab some high-quality sunscreen and use it on a daily basis. Don’t forget to reapply it regularly, and encourage your loved ones to do the same.
Now you’re ready to go ahead and (safely) soak up the sun!

2021 First Quarter Sunscreen Round Up
Tumblr media
NOTE: all non-Asian sunscreens mentioned are the versions sold in the EU/UK. if a brand sells a product with the same name in the US/Canada, the ingredients will be different! ALSO, the links are for your convenience/reference, I don’t make anything from them.
What's the most important step in your skincare routine? It'd be difficult to narrow this down to just one step, but it'd be easy to make an argument for it being sunscreen. Although I'm staunchly against 'sunscreen shaming' I tell everyone the same thing: there's no point using anti-aging or anti-oxidant products if you're not topping it off with a solid sunscreen. Many of the heavy hitting anti-acne ingredients (retinoids, AHAs) make your skin more sensitive to the sun as well, so if you use either of those it's even more important.
To make sure I get proper protection, I use 2 finger lengths of sunscreen for my face, and the same again for my neck + ears. I also reapply throughout the day (every two hours isn't realistic, but I generally do it at least twice). This means I get through SPF quickly; a 50ml tube lasts me ~2.5 weeks. With that out of the way, here’s the list in no particular order!
Skinnies Conquer SPF50+ PA++++
Filters: Uvinal A Plus, Bemotrizional, Octocrylene, Zinc oxide
✔️ No white cast*
✔️ No skin irritation
✔️ No eye irritation
Contains a fragrant EO (manuka oil)
(*although I sincerely doubt this would leave a white cast on anyone, it should be noted that I have pale-ass skin and zinc oxide is known for leaving a cast, which means it could be problematic for darker tones and it's just subtle enough that I didn't notice. proceed with caution)
Skinnies is a little controversial, because of their 'a little goes a long way' claim. I suggest watching this video from Lab Muffin Beauty Science (if you haven't already) to learn more about that. I experimented with using both a pea sized amount as suggested by the brand, and a normal amount for safety's sake.
It has a balm-like texture that you have to heat up in your hands to make spreadable, and because of its waterless formula it doesn't 'dry down' at all- so if you feel greasy putting it on at first, you'll pretty much stay greasy. I found it manageable, and if you want to trust the pea sized amount it works well at being moisturising without being too much. It may have clogged my pores, although that was definitely made worse by wearing a mask
For some reason, I really like skinnies, and if I'm wearing my normal 2 finger amount I feel very much protected because it's very water resistant - a double cleanse is entirely necessary with this one. I'm gonna wear this some more in the summer, and come back to it then
Verdict: TBD
Garnier Ambre Solaire sensitive face fluid SPF50 UVA★★★
Filters: Octisalate, Uvinal T 150, Tinosorb S, Avobenzone, Mexoryl XL, Mexoryl SX
️ No white cast
✔️ No skin irritation
✔️ No eye irritation
Unscented
I wanted to try this one because it was all over my instagram feed for a while, but it does NOT live up to the hype. Firstly, 40ml is tiny, and 3 stars for UVA isn't enough for me personally. I'd forgive this if it had a wonderful texture, but it felt strangely harsh on my skin (almost gritty... although there's nothing gritty in it), and left me looking dull, as if I didn't have a million layers of toner and serums on. But, still, props for being an affordable, white-cast free sunscreen that didn't sting my eyes.
Verdict: would not repurchase
Garnier Ambre Solaire Anti Age Super UV SPF50 UVA ★ ★ ★ ★  ★
Filters: Octocrylene, Avobenzone, Uvinal T 150, Mexoryl SX, Mexoryl XL
✔️ No white cast
❌ Minor skin irritation
❌ Stings my eyes
Unscented
I got this at the same time as the other Garnier one, kinda Just Because. This one is nicer to apply and it doesn't have that 'gritty' feeling to it. However, it irritates my skin (a tiny bit), stings my eyes after a while, and... it pills. a lot. My partner kept pointing out my neck, saying it looked like I had blobs of dead skin rolling around... not a choice look, honestly (and knowing the protection has been made patchy is even worse)
Verdict: would not repurchase
Ultrasun Extreme SPF50+ PA++++
Filters: tTnosorb M (nano), Titanium dioxide (nano), Octisalate, Tinosorb S, Uvinal A Plus, Uvinal T 150
❌ White cast ✔️ No skin irritation ❌ Eye irritation Fragrance free (but smells of sunscreen)
Sooooooooo, when it comes to cosmetic elegance, I expect less from 'extreme' sunscreens. If I'm at the beach, or running, or doing something else where getting burnt is a serious concern, I can manage a white cast or a sticky texture. But both of those, on top of stinging my eyes, and (I think) clogging my pores... nah. I don't want to say this is a bad sunscreen, I just don't think something like this is necessary in today's age. I did not feel comfortable applying the right amount of this. In a world where there are SPF50 products that won't hurt me, why settle for one that does? That's where I'm at with this
Verdict: would not repurchase
Avène Solaire Anti-Aging SPF50+
Filters: Iscotrizinol, Avobenzone, Tinosorb M, Tinosorb S
❌ Slight white cast (would be worse on dark skin)
✔️ No skin irritation
✔️ No eye irritation
Unscented
You know, when a sunscreen is just terrible, I can deal with that. It's to be expected. But when a sunscreen is this close to being flawless, the one or two minor things holding it back just sting even more. This is a wonderful sunscreen for sensitive skin, with a natural/skin-like finish that is neither drying nor greasy, is water resistant (!), and fantastic for acne - it's been my go-to for wearing under a mask for long periods. The filters used are also incredible, with the single exception of Tinosorb M, which is the cause of its fatal flaw...
It has a white cast. It isn't the worst I’ve seen, in fact on my pale skin tone it's almost unnoticeable. But it is there (of course it’d be worse on darker skin tones) and it's the only thing keeping this off of my 'favourite ever sunscreens' list, which is such. a. shame.
Verdict: may repurchase, begrudgingly
Evy Daily Defense Face Mousse SPF50+ PA++++
Filters: Octocrylene, Avobenzone, Uvinal A Plus, Tinosorb S
✔️ No white cast
✔️ No skin irritation
❌ Slight eye irritation (just be careful putting it on)
Unscented
I've been walking past Evy sunscreens for ages. something about the packaging made me assume it would be one of those nasty, sticky/pasty things. Evy, I'm so sorry! this applies like a dream, has a satin finish (i.e. neither dead- nor sweaty-looking), can be used in place of moisturiser, didn't break me out, and didn't irritate my skin. It's also sweat/water resistant. If it gets right in my eyes it stings, but it's easy enough to just avoid sticking my fingers in my eyeballs. If you're asking 'what's the catch?' well, if you're in Europe: there isn't one.
If you're in the US/Canada: it's hard af to get your hands on
If you're anywhere else: search to see if you can get it. Right now. Please!
Verdict: will repurchase, recommend to everyone, never shut up about, cry if it ever gets discontinued
Neogen Dermalogy Probiotics Sun Cream SPF50 PA++++
Filters: Octocrylene, Octinoxate, Octisalate, Avobenzone, Tinosorb S
✔️ No white cast
✔️ No skin irritation
❌ Irritated eyes
Strong, sweet fragrance
This is a decent, basic sunscreen. On the heavier/moisturising side, so only suitable for winter on my oilier skin. Made with probiotic ingredients (because what isn't nowadays), but nothing particularly stand-out (I'd rec probiotics in an earlier step such as an essence). Has a strong, sweet fragrance, which might be a pro if you hate 'sunscreen smell' or a con if you have sensitive skin. If you find this for cheap and want something for daily/mostly indoor use, this is totally worth a try- especially if you have dry skin. But for oily skin or the summer, I’d definitely say there are better ones out there.
For those who are concerned about Korean sunscreen ratings: this was NOT one which failed independent SPF testing. The ones that were, as far as I know, were all formulated by the same 2 companies. From my understanding, Neogen's products are formulated in-house, so there's no reason to avoid this one on that basis. In fact, I’d consider it a relatively trustworthy one
Verdict: would repurchase, on sale in the winter
No.7 Protect & Perfect Intense advanced SPF50+
Filters: Octocrylene, Avobenzone, Tinosorb M, Tinosorb S, Octisalate, Iscotrizinol
❌ Slight white cast (could be worse on darker skin tones)
✔️ No skin irritation
✔️ No eye irritation
Fragranced
There are a few things I like about this: it’s sold as part of a skincare line, rather than a whole like of suncare (i.e. Boots’ soltan), and it’s clearly intended for daily use. It even tells you that the 50ml pack contains 20 applications, to give users a better understanding of how much to apply (though I got through it in fewer because I also used it on my neck and hands). The texture isn’t bad—especially by western standards—it doesn’t pill, and it hasn’t irritated my eyes at all. It’s a little tacky to the touch, and leaves a slight cast that could be problematic for darker skin, but on my pale skin it disappears pretty quickly and just makes my skin look ‘glowy’ according to my partner. It’s on the shiny side, but not too much. Overall, a very ‘okay’ product that I’m not gonna run back to, but would be fine with using again
Verdict: would repurchase
Tumblr media
From the sunscreens I’ve tried so far this year, my favourites are the Evy Daily Defense Face Mousse and the No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Facial Sun Protection (even if it does have an unnecessarily long name). Weirdly, this list only has the one Korean sunscreen on it, when normally that’s what I use the most of! I think I’ve been influenced a little too much by what I’ve seen on IG, but going forward I’ll be sticking more to Asian sunscreens again

How to Springtime Clean Your Make-up Bag
I do not know about you, but for me, spring raises images of home windows being opened up, wonderful, tidy air sweeping with the area, as well as the fragrance of Pine-Sol in a pail of suds. It never occurred to me that springtime cleaning need to belong to my makeup routine, also. It wasn't up until I was able to speak with Danielle Key, Dr. Bailey's in-office aesthetician, that I discovered what spring cleaning must appear like for our make-up bags. And, I got an added benefit of what to fill your bag up with once you've done all that effort, certainly.
TC: Why do we require to spring tidy our make-up bags?
Danielle: It's important to clean your makeup bag every period. Not even if it's time to choose new shades for the period, yet likewise since your makeup bag comes to be filthy as well as can gather dirt, mixed-up powder colors, and also great deals of bacteria as well as bacteria. Inspect to see if your makeup bag can be included the laundry. Otherwise, making use of a disinfect wipe can assist for some bags.
Inspect the service life of all your makeup. Some will have days, some won't.
Right here are some basic guidelines for the typical life span of most cosmetics:
Products that are powder based (e.g. mineral structure, eye darkness, blushers): 2-3 years Liquid foundation items: as much as 1 year Lip gloss/lipstick/lip liner: 2 years max for lipstick. Life span can be prolonged by cooling. Lip gloss with a wand applicator that is re-dipped into product might have a much shorter service life. Lip liner can last as much as 1 to 2 years Mascara as well as liquid eyeliner: 2-3 months. These go bad fast once the air strikes them. Right here's a little suggestion - Don't pump your mascara wand. Just twist it to make sure that less air gets involved in your tube. Pencil eye liner: 2-3 years.
The bottom line is when unsure, throw it out!
Yes, throw it out also if you like it because it's unworthy the danger of infection. For some makeup, there may be apparent indications that it's gone bad, such as how it looks, smells, or really feels. Once again, if you have any doubts, chuck it and also treat yourself to something new in the most recent shades
Moving forward, when you purchase a cosmetic, take a black sharpie pen and compose the day you bought the make-up precisely it. In this way, you can track its suggested expiration date.
I intend to make an unique caution regarding sharing products. If any kind of eye liner, mascara, or eye shadow was made use of throughout an eye infection, do away with it. Those infections are truly transmittable. Likewise, women have a tendency to share lip gloss - do not! It can spread out germs as well as infections such as herpes - cold sores are no fun!
If you have make-up that's still great yet, like a lot of us, you are intending to change out colors for the brand-new period then keep your products in an amazing as well as dark place till the following season.
TC: Should makeup brushes be included in your spring cleaning?
Danielle: Brushes are a bacteria reproducing ground! Whenever you touch your make-up brush to your face there is germs that gets on it. Skin oil and cells get on it too, so the microorganisms can be quite delighted on your brush. Preferably, you ought to make the effort to clean them at the end of weekly as well as shop them very carefully in a tidy place.
Take an anti-bacterial soap or a shampoo, arise the brush in water, and also begin washing your bush like you do your hair. Wash your brush under running water. Squeeze the shrub together as well as view every one of the filthy make-up and also oil appear! Repeat this up until the water runs clear. Once your brush is tidy, wipe it completely dry with a towel as well as lay it flat to completely dry (never stand a brush up on its deal with - this can spoil the adhesive and also loosen or warp the bristles). You can also utilize a strike dryer if the brush requires to be used immediately but take care, as a hot strike clothes dryer might ruin your brush.
TC: What are the preferred make-up shades for this spring and also summertime?
Danielle: Now that you have actually put all that effort right into cleansing your make-up bag and brushes, it's time to commemorate by enjoying with some brand-new colors! You'll desire a few of the brand-new colors of make-up, lip gloss, as well as the fun new eye shadows that are trending for 2015.
Nudes, blues, tangerines, strawberries, almonds with grays, and also purples allow this period - great deals of makeovers and shade! Do not neglect the smoky red lips we saw on the path this year
.
TC: As an included benefit, Danielle gave me a quick makeup lesson for the warm "purple-haze" eye darkness try to find 2015:.
Clean the skin with a nice cleanser that will not leave the skin completely dry (like Toleranie cleanser).
Apply a wonderful slim cream( such as Dr. Bailey's Environment-friendly Tea Antioxidant Skin Therapy). Apply a BB cream( such as MDSolar Sciences or Suntergrity's BB Cream Sunscreen) . To apply eye liner, utilize a flat, angled brush, dampen under water, swipe brush with the black component of the Smokey Trio, and also run brush along your lash line. Apply Dr. Bailey's loosened, pushed, or baked mineral makeup to seal in the eyeliner for the day. Cover the entire face eyes as well as neck also. For eye darkness, use a level eye darkness brush to brush the silver shimmer in the Plum Triad around the lid from the top of the lash line to the base of the eyebrow.  Brush light lavender over the cover of the eye. Spot dark purple in the folds of the eye lid with a contour brush. For blush, make use of the loosened flush mineral powder to highlight the face , being sure to obtain the external forehead area in addition to down the structure of the face to highlight specific functions that you wish to highlight.

Tinted Moisturizer: Benefits & How is it Different From Foundation & BB Cream
Tumblr media
Every day, we use a variety of creams and lotions. Interested in knowing which is the right one for you? Knowing the differences between products and their benefits is crucial to choose a product wisely for daily use. It is likely that you have used foundations and also BB cream. CC creams are now also available to us. BB creams may already be your favorite product for daily use and foundation for special occasions. But What is a Tinted Moisturizer?  It is relatively easy to find hybrid products that combine the best of skincare and makeup, a category that fuses aspects of BB creams, and CC creams. Among our favorites is a tinted moisturizer, which is a skincare and makeup hybrid that will suit pretty much anyone. Here you'll find everything you need to know about tinted moisturizers and how it is different from BB creams and foundations.
What is Tinted Moisturizer?
The one thing that might be missing from your beauty regimen is tinted moisturizer. Tinted moisturizers can hydrate skin and leave it with a radiant, glowing appearance. It is a facial moisturizer that combines a slight skin tint with makeup pigments such as BB creams and foundations. Thus, the product serves as both makeup and moisturizer. Ingredients like iron oxides, titanium dioxide, humectants and many other antioxidants are included in this product. Nice, huh? Even better, This drugstore tinted moisturizer gives you these benefits for much less than you'd expect.
Usage
The application of foundation is not so simple. A perfect application and coverage involve dabbing it on all over the face evenly. Using a tinted moisturizer offers the advantage of not needing to worry about the proper application. You just need to apply a small amount to your skin like any lotion or cream. Just decide on the tone that most closely resembles your skin. Furthermore, this product is ideal for dry to combination skinned women since it enhances oiliness in the skin.
How to Use Tinted Moisturizers?
Usually, people overcomplicate applying these moisturizers, since they are called “tinted”. But, It is quite easy to apply this moisturizer. Here's how you can do it: Cleanse your face well and then blot lightly with a towel.  Put a dime-sized drop of your favorite moisturizer on your palm, and massage it into damp skin, along with sunscreen(optional). Allow this to sink into your skin for a couple of minutes. Use a dry makeup sponge to dab it on the centers of your cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin.  Blend outwards (you can use your fingers as well) and you are done!
When to Use Tinted Moisturizer?
You can use a tinted moisturizer on days when you don't require lots of coverage but still want to look polished & put together. Those who are into the no makeup, makeup look trend can get the look by using tinted moisturizer.
Advantages: Why use a Tinted Moisturizer?
Ensures that your skin is moisturised and hydrated. In comparison with s foundations and BB creams, it has a thinner consistency. There are many shades to choose from, unlike BB creams. Feels really lightweight on your skin.
Disadvantages
Tinted moisturizers do not contain anti-aging or whitening properties. Oily skinned women may not find it suitable. Do not remain on the skin for a longer period and give less color to the skin. Pricey. This product provides very little protection from the sun and SPF ranges from 15 to 30 while the SPF provided by BB creams starts at 30. You can definitely try a tinted moisturizer if your skin is almost free of blemishes or has an even tone. If not, you may want to choose a BB cream. Teenagers and those in their early twenties are better off using tinted creams since their skin doesn't require much more than this. BB creams contain a wide range of all-in-one properties that make them indispensable for daily use as one ages.
9 Benefits of Tinted Moisturizers
If you use a tinted moisturizer on a regular basis, the benefits are endless! A tinted moisturizer can be helpful not only for saving time but for making your skin look beautiful as well! You need to read all of the benefits of tinted moisturizers if you have never tried one, but you have been looking forward to it for a while. 1. Moisture Protection A tinted moisturizer has the advantage of being a true moisturizer (besides saving you a ton of time of course!). As a moisturizing makeup, you can still allow your skin to breathe while still keeping it hydrated. It's also suitable for any type of skin, whether it is oily, dry or sensitive.  If you have sensitive skin, tinted moisturizers won't irritate your skin nor will they cause it to dry out. In a warm climate, they let your skin cool down, breathe, and naturally dry itself.  2. Protection from the sun A good tinted moisturiser provides hydration to your skin as well as SPF protection from the harsh sun rays. Many foundations do not actually protect you from the sun at all. Rather, they can just make your skin a little drier. Tinted moisturizers can offer benefits of both foundation and a moisturizer, plus they also offer sun protection.  3. Time Saver Tinted moisturizers save a lot of time, which is why they are so popular. Tinted moisturizers can help you save the time you would normally spend applying moisturizer, waiting for it to dry, and then applying foundation. You're saving time by doing two things at the same time! What a great bonus! 4. Enhances the natural look Gone are those days when women covered their skin in thick cream, and their skin began beneath several layers. We live in an era in which we appreciate natural beauty. Freckles and face marks are in fashion. And how hard is it to not get the caked-on look when applying a foundation? When it comes to tinted moisturizers, that isn't an option.  You will create a far more natural look by using tinted moisturizer and your skin will look smooth and flawless.  5. Youthful Skin  It is true that you can have healthy, youthful-looking skin with tinted moisturizers. It's amazing that you can do that with makeup. As tinted moisturizers contain an array of ingredients that improve the appearance of your skin, you can use them more often than you might think! 6. Simple Application It is just like any other moisturizer. Its application is really easy. Simply rub a little on your hands and then apply it on your face. 7. Many Shades Using the wrong foundation and BB cream shade is one of the most significant makeup mistakes. There is a limited range of shade choices, so you have to decide between them. Despite being the closest, the shade does not exactly match. Alternatively, tinted moisturizer comes in a variety of shades, so you can easily pick one that fits your needs. 8. Perfect for summer In the summer, when the weather is particularly hot and humid, you will love using tinted moisturizers as they are not too heavy on the skin. Throw a tinted moisturizer in your makeup bag and you are good to go! 9. Easy & Light Coverage There's nothing as easy as gliding this product on your cheeks, chin, and forehead and feeling like it covers you perfectly. This is both light and airy! So we suggest you go with tinted moisturizer if you want to lighten up on your foundation and choose a skin-friendly option.
Are BB Creams And Tinted Moisturizers the Same?
You may be wondering if tinted moisturizer and BB cream are the same since we have mentioned both frequently in this article itself. Clearly, no. BBB creams, also known as beauty balms, are liquid makeup products that are used as make-up primers and provide a range of skincare properties like sun protection, hydration, and shine control. Meanwhile, tinted moisturizers have a similar purpose, but primarily they act as a moisturizer and provide a bit of coverage. A BB cream is more like a mix between a tinted moisturizer and a foundation in terms of coverage. A tinted moisturizer typically contains a lighter formula than a BB cream.
Foundation And Tinted Moisturizer: What’s The Difference?
One important difference between the tinted moisturizer and the foundation is that titanium oxide is just about 3% in the former and anywhere from 14 to 15% in the latter. The color is delivered by this ingredient to the skin. Foundation and tinted moisturiser differ primarily in terms of how much coverage they provide. A foundation will probably be your best option if you need coverage and color. Due to its high pigment content, it has an advantage over tinted moisturizers. In addition, it covers blemishes, fine lines and pimples. However, if you just want a moisturized finish with a touch of color then we'd recommend using a lighter base of a tinted moisturizer. This low pigment formula won't conceal imperfections, but it will give the skin a healthy glow and hydrate it well. It is because of their lightweight finish that they are so popular during the summer and when going on vacations!  Read the full article

Open Pores: Causes and Treatment.
What are open pores?
There are multiple glands present on our face which secret oil, these are known as sebaceous glands. These glands are present on the side of the hair follicle. The pilosebaceous unit opening of these glands gives the appearance of open pores. These open pores are nothing but opening of these open pores of the sebaceous glands on our face, especially the area where the glands are more in number there we see the larger prominence of pores. These are present mainly on the T-Zone, over the nose, on the chin area and also on the inner side of the cheeks.
Why do open pores occur?
These pores become prominent when there is increased secretion of oil from these glands, these become more prominent during adolescence and adulthood. And what happens is that with age there is a collagen breakdown and the skin becomes thinner, so the support of these glands and the opening is reduced so they appear larger. This is why the appearance of pores increases as age increases.
Open pores are more commonly seen in people who have oily skin type, even patients with dry skin type can notice open pores as they age. And these pores are very prominent on the inner side of the cheek and the nose. Open pores are also considered an early sign of ageing.
Other Reasons for Open Pores.
Other than having an oily skin type, certain genetic predispose you to develop open pores. If you have a family history of open pores of prominent hair follicles or with prominent gland openings then there is a high chance that even you tend to develop them over time.
Open pores tend to become more common during certain phases of the menstrual cycle. Then time, when you develop acne, during your menses because of increased oil production even the pores tend to get more common.so, you will notice that there certain times in a month where your pores appear more prominent compared to rest.
It is natural to have pores because these glands moisturise our skin and keep our skin healthy. So, it is not a disease; it is just that people now have become very conscious and are very bothered by the presence of the open pores, which is just an anatomical location of the glands which moisturise our face. You can not get completely get rid of them means you have to get rid of the gland which is not possible at all. Because people are so bothered by the appearance of the open pores and their prominence there is a multitude of cosmetics, creams, lotions and the market that claim to reduce the appearance of pores. It is not possible to completely get rid of them but it is possible to minimise the appearance of open pores.
Measures to reduce the appearance of open pores.
What are few measures to reduce the appearance of pores? Foremost, use a gentle cleanser. Try not to scrub your face too often or use harsh exfoliators which will further damage the skin and stimulate the skin to produce more oil. Whenever there is an increase in oil production, it will also make glands more prominent. So, try to use a gentle cleanser on the regular basis.
One of the most important components or drawback for the appearance of open pores is sleeping with your make-up on. The make-up that we apply especially the foundation and the concealer tends to clog these pores and make them appear more in number. Make sure that you minimise the application of foundation and concealer that you use on your face and make sure you remove your make-up before you go off to sleep so that there is no clogging of pores overnight.
Using face washes containing salicylic acid can help in reducing the oil formation on the skin and over time help in shrinking the pores. Salicylic acid gently exfoliates the top layer of the skin so there is no clogging of pores, hence the appearance of pores becomes less. The salicylic acid face wash is the best thing to opt for. Avoid oil-based make -up. Try to use water-based cosmetics and even creams and moisturisers should be con comedogenic which means that they are not going to clog your pores.
Open pores are a result of increased oil production and also reduced collagen using creams containing tretinoin and vitamin A derivative can help you in improving the appearance of the open pores. Creams containing tretinoin can be applied on areas of open pores at night which help gently exfoliate the skin and also reduce the oil formation from these glands and build up collagen over time. These creams have to be used on the regular basis, there is no quick fix that you apply it overnight and you get the results on the next day. You have to use this for a longer period regularly for good results. It has been shown that even sun damage can lead to open pores. Because sun damage leads to collagen breakdown. If you are in an occupation where your skin undergoes a lot of sun exposure, then make sure you apply sunscreen regularly which will also help in reducing the breakdown of the collagen will prevent the worsening of the open pores.
Tips to minimise the appearance of open pores.
Rubbing ice on your face: If you rub ice on your face it will help in shrinking pores for a short period.
Make use of a clay mask: If you have a party to attend or a social gathering, you can always apply a clay mask containing bentonite and leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash it off. If you have dry, irritated and sensitive skin then this clay masks can irritate. In that case, make sure you moisturise your face well with a non-comedogenic moisturiser after you wash off the clay mask.
The effects of these tips are only temporary, they absorb the oil and shrink the pores for only 3-4 hours.
It has been shown that consumption of certain food items such as food containing dairy products, sugar, which have a high glycemic index i.e. which increase the blood sugar in the body, can lead to an increase in oil production, therefore which increase the appearance of the open pores.

Back to the Basics:
Ever since I figured out the difference between slippers and sneakers, I’ve wanted a multi-step skin and makeup routine. I don’t know; it’s something about the elegant/cute/aesthetic packaging drawing me in, and instant gratification after application that always encouraged my unhealthy obsession with skincare products. Something about buying the next new thing and throwing it into my cupboard, always satisfied a little sense of my pride.
Fast forward a couple of years, and I have come to the realisation that less is indeed more. As years passed, and products have lived and perished on my vanity, I have come to the conclusion that no, I do not need 5 products to moisturise my skin. Shocker, right? Especially since I consider myself a young individual, I should be asking myself do I really need this anti-aging serum that just hit the market? I’ve already got a gentle cleanser in the evening, so do I really need another one for the morning? It’s these kind of questions we must be asking ourselves before we make a purchase on the new hottest toner. Because in all honesty, if we strip our skin care routine to the essentials we need cleanser, moisturiser, and protection (for the AM).
I’m aiming this post specifically towards the younger audiences and people who may just be starting to get into skincare. I understand that it’s hard to decipher all this new technology and science that companies have come out with over the recent years- now with the biggest boom of revolutionary cosmetic products since the early 2000s. Statistics have demonstrated that from 2012, the global cosmetic market have seen a shift in the consumer demographic age range from the older to younger audiences. To keep up with the change, companies have changed marketing strategies that would appeal to their new audience through strategies of all natural and readily more acne fighting products. However, encouraging a young and/or uneducated audience to buy unnecessary products can only spell more bad than good.
~
Cleanser:
Role: “A cleanser is a facial care product that is used to remove make-up*, dead skin cells, oil, dirt, and other types of pollutants from the skin of the face. This helps to unclog pores and prevent skin conditions such as acne” Cleanser - Wikipedia
It is important to understand that a cleanser’s role is not to solve all your skin’s problems. It’s role is to cleanse the uppermost part of your skin, and that because it is not left on your skin for prolonged periods of time its ingredients cannot reach far into the layers of the skin.
When looking for a cleanser, it is important to understand what your skin needs and what your skin type demands. If you’re dry-sensitive skin is breaking out, and you’ve been doing tons of research on the best acne cleansers but not taking into account your skin type you can cause more trouble than when you started.
Things to look at: pH of your cleanser (this should be in the 5.5-6.5 range), top most ingredients (this determines what ingredients that are going to mostly affect you), and the options available to you. I personally hate the idea that the more expensive a product is, the more time was taken into the formulation. While this is true in SOME cases, spending $50 on a cleanser that does the exact same thing with the exact same ingredients as a cleanser that is $15 will always boggle my balls.
Recommendations: 1. CeraVe Hydrating cleanser 2. COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanse (even though it says good morning you can use it at night) 3. klairs Rich Moist Foaming Cleanser 4. Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel 5. Ego Azclear Action Foaming wash - (what I’m using at the moment) 6. Neogen Green Tea Real Fresh Foam Cleanser
Note:
* I personally do not rely on my cleanser to remove makeup and sunscreen, as most of my cleansers are extremely gentle and I know the role is more to remove excess sebum and dirt not makeup. I use an oil based cleanser before my water based cleanser to remove the most upper layer of collected oil, dirt, makeup, and sunscreen.
I personally do not enjoy a cleanser completely and unnecessarily stripping my skin of its natural oils. In my opinion, a cleanser should be able to perform its role without having to compromise our natural skin barrier- this means without highly irritating ingredients, leaving a tight and dry feel, and being terribly difficult to remove.
Moisturiser:
Role: “Moisturizers or emollients are complex mixtures of chemical agents specially designed to make the external layers of the skin softer and more pliable. They increase the skin's hydration by reducing evaporation.” Moisturizer - Wikipedia
THIS IS NECESSARY GUYS. I cannot stress enough that regardless of your skin type if you are not moisturising your skin after cleansing (or in general) that your natural barrier could potentially be suffering immensely! I’m not going to go into the science of moisturisers in this post (maybe another one) but the general idea of a moisturiser is to trap the essential nutrients and moisture or restoring the lost moisture. If you are cleansing (which you should be) you are already washing away a good percentage of your natural moisture, so it is important for you to be restoring the skin’s natural moisture.
Moisturisers can also provide the skin with extra benefits with anti-aging and antioxidant properties.
It is also important to know the fine line between moisturising enough and too much. Too much moisture can unfortunately result in more acne as the thick layer of occlusives/humectants may not allow for the skin to breath. I personally have found myself crossing this line a lot.
Oils are a a quick and light way to achieve a plump and smooth texture. Looking for thin and dry oils specifically aimed towards acne prone skin can help with sebum production and provide the skin with added healing properties.
Recommendations:  1. La Roche-Posay Toleriane Ultra Overnight Moisturiser 2. La Roche-Posay Toleriane Riche (heard amazing reviews about this one, it’s worth a go for those with sensitive/combo/dry-flaky skin) 3. Ego QV Skin Lotion 4. COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All In One Cream 5. Aloe Vera Gel 6. Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Moisture Cushion
Sunscreen:
Role: Sunscreen, also known as sunblock and suntan lotion, is a lotion, spray, gel or other topical product that absorbs or reflects some of the sun's ultraviolet radiation and thus helps protect against sunburn. Wikipedia
I personally can’t say much about this step other than it is vital to the health and longevity of your skin. I haven’t done too much research on what can happen to you if you don’t use sunscreen, other than darkening your acne scars and skin irritation after treatments if not used. As I live in Australia, it is paramount that I use sunscreen everyday to reduce the chances of developing skin cancer (this applies to all regions of the world too).
There are two types of sunscreens: physical and chemical. The latter is the one you all probably see the most in stores as it does not leave that greasy white cast that everyone hates. However, I prefer physical sunscreens over chemical ones as instead of absorbing into my skin and causing irritation they sit on top and protect my skin via ingredients that I trust more (i.e zinc and titanium dioxide).
Recommendations:* 1. COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA+++ 2. Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence Sunscreen SPF 50+ PA+++ 3. Ego Sunsense Sensitive Invisible SPF50+ 4. L’Oreal Dermo-Expertise UV Perfect 12H Longlasting UVA/UVB Protector SPF50+/Pa+++
Note:
*I don’t actually have a lot of recommendations, because I find that I breakout from sunscreens very easily. My experiences with both physical and chemical sunscreens have not been the best, and while I do prefer physical they still tend to lean towards the negative effects more.

Now I’m not gonna be some up-herself-messiah that comes raining down with knowledge while simultaneously practising everything that I speak of. No, I don’t only use 2-3 products everyday, how will I satisfy the urge to pour oil all over myself? A bit of an exaggeration, I admit, but after years of products it’s hard to go back. What I want to get across though, is that it is not impossible, and that every once in awhile it is necessary for us to give our skin a break. May it be a reaction from a new product or the seasons playing with your skin, I believe once we strip our skin care regimens down to the basics, we can restore our skin’s natural barrier.
~
TL;DR: Our skin is smart guys, give it some credit.
