I am now on Duolingo, and I think this is my villain origin story. Not because I'm suffering or anything, I just absolutely enjoy being evil (ripping the first place spot from that one guy in my league who really, really wants to be first, but unfortunately for him I also really, really want to be first and enjoy the idea of ruining his day with my superiority).
#Bloom talks#Duolingo tales#also this isn't my first rodeo#while he's learning US english like a virgin in over there learning my third language like a chad#I understand why villains always laugh evily now#they enjoy themselves very much#hi yes my schedule is kinda too free these days how could you tell#ah yes also the language is mandarin chinese and I switched off the pinyin so I'm ALSO in extra hard mode BUT winning anyway#as we French people say: CHEH!#it's so french of me to feel like a chad about a measly third language when most people in the world casually speak#at least two or three#when I first learned english it was amazing for a french to be able to speak it but now it's becoming mainstream#I have to distinguish myself further#(but in truth I just really want to be able to read Mo Xiang Tong Xiu in the original language)#(that's still a long way off and I won't achieve that with just Duolingo but it's a start and I'm. determined.)

it's fun to see such opposite opinions on duo because i'm somehow both. i do get bored quickly now so i never do more than one lesson daily and no longer care about getting monthly badges, but i make actual progress instead of getting stuck endlessly "repairing" old lessons. it really would be much better if there was a toggle to choose between the two learning systems.
For sure! It goes to show that there truly is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to learning or studying, even among neurodivergent brains.
It would be awesome to toggle between the two (or at least choose one when you start a new language), but completely understandable why they don't. Better to use your resources to make one stable, consistent system than struggle to balance and support two, unfortunately.
