I hope you enjoy this! It took me forever because I rewrote it, like, 4 times.

Warnings: gun mentioned, blood barely mentioned, angst

It was one of their special nights, the team was gathered for drinks. Dave and Krystall had just gotten back from their honeymoon. Everyone sat around the large table, enjoying drinks and just having an all around good time. Will looked around at all these friends that he had made over the years and his eyes landed on his wife. She was smiling and she looked around as well, but when she made eye contact with Spencer she quickly looked down and took a long sip of her wine. Will thought that was odd, there was never any awkwardness between the two of them. It made him wonder. He knew that they had been involved in a hostage situation during their last case before Dave’s wedding...

Spencer stood up from the table and went inside to get himself anther drink, Will stood up a few moments later, grabbing JJ’s glass and his own.

“I’m gonna go grab us some more drinks, Hun.” He said, making his way into the house. He stood next to Spencer, giving him a smile, “Hey, Spencer.” He said, “Wanna pour me and JJ another?” He asked, offering up the two glasses that he was holding. Spencer nodded, filling them both with the same white wine they had been drinking. Will studied Spencer for a few seconds before speaking, “Ya know, I may not be a profiler but I’ve lived with one long enough to know that something is going on.” Spencer finally looked up at Will.

“It’s really... Not my place to tell you.” He said, chewing on his lip. The two stared at each other for a few seconds, neither one really knowing what to say.

“Come on, man. You and JJ are usually so good together but you haven’t visited in so long and she’s been avoiding talking about anything that happened on the last case... I know there’s something going on between you two.” Will said, “You’re usually so close and its kind of hard to see you avoiding each other like this.” Spencer could taste blood from how hard he was biting his lip. He rubbed his neck and looked up at Will.

“Why don’t you ask JJ.” Spencer said before grabbing his drink and making a quick exit. Will watched as he walked out. He took a few sips of his own wine while trying to reason through what could have happened. JJ entered the house and approached her husband,

“You are taking way too long to get drinks.” She said with a smile, one that Will cherished, he only wished she would smile more.

“Yeah, I was talking to Spencer.” He said, JJ grabbed her wine glass and took a long sip. Will studied her face for a reaction.

“Oh yeah? What’d he have to say?” She asked, tilting her head. Will narrowed his eyes a bit, she was good at hiding her micro expressions. Will sat his wine glass down.

“I was just asking him about what was going on between you.” Will said, JJ’s façade faltered, she threw back the rest of her wine and began to fill the glass again,

“Nothing is going on between us, Will. We went through a traumatic experience together-”

“And you guys have gone through so many other of those kind of experiences and typically you end up closer than before. Y’all are like brother and sister, I-”

“I told him that I love him...” JJ cut in, her guilt getting the better of her. Will’s eyebrows raised, “I told him that I’ve always loved him and... And I wasn’t lying.” She sat the wine glass down again and crossed her arms.

“You love him.” Will said, almost to himself, Will refilled his glass again and began walking back out to the others.

“Will, don’t walk away from me.” JJ said, grabbing his arm. Will turned around, looking at her with a sadness in his eyes. One that JJ had never seen.

“How could you... How could you love him and... How could you not tell me that?” Will sighed, “I-I just don’t understand how you’ve gone our whole marriage... Our whole life together... And you never told me?” Will squeezed the glass in his hand, “Is that why you didn’t want to tell your team? Why you kept denying when I asked you to marry me?” Will felt like his whole life had been a lie, “Did-Did you only ‘choose’ me because of Henry?” tears fell down JJ’s face,

“Its not like that, Will. I love you, Spencer was... He was my first love and its hard to forget that. I-I hadn’t even thought about that, about my feelings for him, in years but when that man had a gun to both of us... And I had to say something... Its the only thing I could think of.” She said, trying to wipe the tears before they could fall. Will sat the glass down.

“I... I need to get home... This is- Its too much right now.” Will muttered, heading out the front door of Dave’s house. JJ watched him walk away. All she wanted was to fix this...

What do you think would have happened if Emily adopted or continued to see the kid in 3x02?

I can't stop thinking about it

I think if she had adopted him, and if he still ended up becoming a serial killer, she would immediately know it was him. She'd confront him immediately, sitting down opposite him as he cried as he confessed. She'd nod to someone behind him, tears in her eyes as they took him into custody.

He would have gotten nightmares growing up and Emily would be there for as many as she could. When she couldn't be there physically, she'd be on the phone calming him down. When she was on a case, he would stay with Will and the boys.

She would go to Hotch and JJ for parental advice.

David would continue to excel in school, he'd read with Emily every night. They'd have hot chocolate when he was sad. They'd watch cartoons together.

David and Sergio would be the best of friends, Sergio often falling asleep on David's chest, the pair of them asleep on the sofa/couch.

Plus we would have gotten the mum Emily content we all needed aha.
