Do you ever think about why Hannibal returned Will's shattered teacup back together? Perhaps it wasn't out of love, or a longing for a family, but out of curiosity. Think about Hannibal's own shattered teacup, Mischa. The truth is, we will never know what would have become of him if she hadn't died. He might have led a completely different, normal life. Or perhaps the tendencies he'd had were inherent, something that even a happy family could not suppress. Not even Hannibal was able to know, because the teacup had shattered. The timeline had diverged. There was no turning back, the nail on the coffin was already hammered in. You could not bring the shattered pieces of Mischa back together again. But then comes Will and Abigail. The reflection of him and Mischa. What would happen if the teacup was able to be restored? What kind of man would Will be? What kind of man would Hannibal be? So he returns the teacup to its original state, waits for Will's meeting with Abigail. Perhaps one of the reasons he hopes that Will runs away with him and Abigail is because it will be proof that he could have been happy with Mischa. But Will rejects his offer, turns away from him. Will and Abigail were never meant to be. Hannibal and Mischa could never be. And so Hannibal casts all that aside. His theory has been disproven.

Do you think Hannibal lays his head over Will’s heart while they’re sleeping as a reminder of the thing he could have eaten and savoured only once as compared to the many days and nights he’s now heard this familiar rhythm?

How Will Graham dresses throughout the show is very very interesting to me and also another symbol of Hannibal and Will’s similarities and differences.

We start off season one with Will in his plaid shirts and jeans and it’s a very clear and easy way to discern characterization of who he is at the beginning of the show before meeting Hannibal.

Then as he slowly starts to get closer with Hannibal, how he dresses begins to change. His clothing becomes slightly more formal but there are definitely distinct details that still make it very Will Graham.

One of the very distinct points that makes this incredibly obvious is when Will is let out of The Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane and goes back to Hannibal’s office. Everyone loves the salmon shirt look but is also a very clear visual symbol of how much Will has changed. His clothes don’t mirror Hannibal’s exactly but they are starting to mirror Hannibal’s attention to detail when it comes to the way he presents himself, personality and clothing.

Then when there is the time skip and we see Will’s family we get to see a glimpse of the same Will Graham we saw in the first few episodes. He’s gone back to some of the defining things that separated him and Hannibal and is latching onto them. And it’s mirrored in the way he’s gone back to dressing the way he did in season 1. However that does change when he goes back to see Hannibal again.
