isnt it so interesting and so reflective of being a teenage girl how the yellowjackets collectively and sort of automatically/instinctively assign certain roles to certain members of the group, often roles that involve getting their hands dirty and doing things that are anywhere from gross to ethically questionable to truly morally reprehensible but necessary for their survival, because no one else can stomach it, and then they punish her for acting out the exact same role that they assigned her?

Blood Drops on Roses: Settling in (19/80)
Wild, Twilight, and the travelers settle into camp for the night. Wild is uncomfortable. Tw: none (threat of stabbing?)
“Woah!”
Suddenly, Wild felt a pressure against his back. Arms encircled his shoulders and went around his neck. His throat tightened, his breath caught, and his fingers clenched around the handle of his paring knife.
But he recognized the voice: the young sailor, Wind. It would not be acceptable to stab one of the travelers—especially their youngest—directly in front of them.
Wind set his chin on Wild’s shoulder. “Are you cooking? You can cook?” he exclaimed right in his ear.

i think it's my own if-i-can't-see-it-it-doesn't-exist excatholic sensibilities but when it comes to the paranormal elements of yellowjackets i'm one hundred percent taissa. why can't lottie just be a kid lost in the woods without the means to control her mental illness, latching onto whatever feels realest in the moment? why can't the cultishness that later resulted not have been all of the other kids doing the exact same thing? reaching for whatever they could eat when they needed it? why does there have to be some creepy old ghost in a cabin when the human fears and exhaustion and needs of the characters are already carrying the entire plot easily? i think in the case of yellowjackets, like so many survival dramas, adding an extra element like that winds up overcrowding the story, especially when it's already playing around with how linear it is and juggling multiple dynamic characters and actors

this is mostly just an idle thought but like. I told someone today that most of the stuff I enjoy is "cringe" but I don't think that's it? I think that when you pare it down, what I enjoy is the sincerity that comes through when someone writes something that they just think is really fuckin cool. And that gets called "cringe" like... a lot of the time.

hi! im having trouble understanding the part where lottie told everybody that natalie has always been the wilderness' "favourite". may i know why? its been bugging me for dayssssss
i'm sooo sorry it took me this long to reply to this!!
so. to be completely honest. i'm not exactly sure?? like. there's obviously the fact that she was saved during the hunt. but i don't know why lottie would say it's "always". maybe because nat was the hunter and for months the wilderness gave her the animals to feed her and the group? maybe lottie knows more than the rest of us and maybe (probably?) it'll be explored more in s3!
or maybe lottie was improvising that seemed like the right thing to say at the moment to really establish that nat is meant to be the leader that lottie doesn't want to be
if anyone has any more thoughts about it please share!!!

There was a wilderness, and Cal was dust in the wilderness, and his hopes and dreams were dust in the wilderness, all driven before the same unforgiving wind.

And as they sang, the fear and the suffering of the long winter seemed to rise like a dark cloud and float away on the music. Spring had come. The sun was shining warm, the winds were soft, and the green grass growing.

Bridger National Forest, Wyoming.
A second backpacking loop through the Winds! I started at Boulder Lake and climbed Boulder Creek Canyon being sure to stop by the North Fork Falls on the way. The end of the day was wandering past many lakes finally finishing at Lake Vera.
