For the record I don't think the Sannin had some sort of dramatic falling out. I think they grew apart in a way that they almost didn't notice. I think they found different interests, different people, and no matter how much they told themselves they were still as close as they'd always been they weren't. And I think it was a process of continually realizing these people aren't who you idealized in your mind; that they are maybe, kind of, sort of bad people; that they have done things you can't ignore, and that, maybe, they are your enemies. But there's no closure there. There's no sense of relief to be gained. Because you love them. You love them more than anyone in the world–– more than your students, more than your spouse, more than your family, more than your village. They know more about you than anyone ever will or ever could. They hold pieces of you, not only in your knowledge, not only in your youth, but in your soul, because they are one-third of it. You know them more, and less, than anyone could, and definitely more than you should

i dont know why the running joke of this chapter is kakashi fearing for his kidneys. where did that come from. WHY did that come from.

except it makes me giggle every time so maybe i should leave it there.

Hello I am new at this fandom, so I want to ask, is Minato/Kushina became Kakashi's family after Sakumo's suicide a canon or fanon thing? I just read a fic that has Kakashi being punched for "didn't do the same for Naruto" and while I saw many Kakashi valid bashing fics this one, is, weird? We only saw Minato interacts with Kakashi after he was assigned as Kakashi's teacher, just like Kakashi interacts with Naruto after he became Naruto's teacher, so technically he did exactly the same as Minato
Minato is Kakashi’s sensei, not his father figure
Minato and Kushina being a family to him is 100% fanon
As for ‘Kakashi didn’t do the same for Naruto’ he was 14. He was a teenager unequipped to take care of a child and suffering through his own survivers guilt, depression and throwing himself into desths hands.
His friends had to step in and beg that he be removed from Anbu because he was (and i quote) ‘in a hurry to die’
Kakashi would not have been a good parental or brother figure to Naruto. He was no equiped to do that job. The only one who can be held accountable for how Naruto was treated is Hiruzen. He was the one specificlly entrusted with Naruto by Kushina on her dying breath. He is the one who should have picked up and cared for Naruto (Jiraya is a close second but still didn’t have the same responsibility as Hiruzen who literally promised to take care of Naruto)
Also there’s really no ‘acceptable Bashing fic’
Like i don’t get why people are into that. Just bad mouthing a character and putting them down.

Kakashi wasn’t perfect but he was also extreamly broken by the system and everything he experienced growing up. For Fandom to put this responsibility on him, a child (again, he was 14 when Minato and Kushina died) is just pure bs. I love a good ‘Kakashi does adopt and care for Naruto’ au, but in no way was it his responsibility and honestly it would have been terrible for both of them

He would have been a HORRIBLE caretaker for Naruto
And again, Minato and Kushina taking on the role of ‘parents’ for Kakashi is fanon. There is nothing canon to back that up and tbh if Minato was considered a father figure to Kakashi it was 1) in his own mind 2) a terrible one??? Like what kind of father figure decides a 6 yr old would make a good chunin? Or takes a little kid on a high ranked mission? (Naruto the lost tower)

Hiruzen put specific orders in for the Jonin not to tell Naruto about his family or really interact with him. The people who knew who Naruto’s parents were and might have provided help to him, had their hands tied by the Hokage
To go against his orders would legit be treason and cause for them to become S-ranked missing nin
