Is there a summary of the fulcrum au?
undoubtedly but i don't feel like looking for it so. quick recap!
twin dragons au -- ingo is Zekrom and emmet is Reshiram. the way it works in this is that they can be Either human Or dragon but not physically both at the same time. zero dragon traits in human form, etc.
which is why it's Really Freaking Weird And Alarming when emmet finds himself half-reshiram'd one day. (especially once he later realizes ingo is missing--)
anyway. ingo gets eeby deebied and something about the trip to hisui smushes his human and pokemon form together. and since he and emmet/reshiram are so closely connected it kinda. pushed back to him as well.
various side notes under the cut;
- ingo arrives in hisui with no memories, but does have a somewhat easier time regaining them, especially once akari shows up and helps him
- dad ingo. adopts akari. we love to see it
- he also isn't technically a warden but the pearl clan lets him do what he wants. they treat him like a person, for the most part, but not really like a Human, if that makes sense. he's treated normally but there's always a strange tone to most of his interactions with the residents of hisui.
- pearl clan also decided he must be a gift from sinnoh. adaman saw this, decided ingo is a gift from HIS sinnoh and actually belongs with his own clan. ingo ignores this and hangs out in the highlands the majority of the time. but does spend a lot more time with the pearl clan because they're the ones that found him and took him in
- meanwhile. emmet stays out of public eye for a hot minute. and by that i mean a month or so. which isn't that surprising considering his brother disappeared. people figure he's just trying to cope.
- but. he's driving himself insane he can't stay away from the subway that long he has GOT to get back. or he will die. (he says this, dramatically, to elesa). and there's no leads on getting him back to normal.
- (technically, he could take a trip to sinnoh and call up arceus. but with ingo missing he feels that leaving the region would be a bad idea and totally irresponsible.)
- so he just. Shows Up At Work One Day. all half-reshiram'd. as if there is nothing wrong. depot agents, after a moment of baffled staring, have to just roll with it.
- the Public, however. dhkshsksbsksjd
- all he can say is that he has No Idea why he is Like This (true) and it happened when ingo disappeared (true). "But why do you look so much like Reshiram?" "you expect me to know the answer to that?? i'm a train conductor." (blatantly skirting around the truth without directly lying).
- eventually unova accepts that. yeah okay their subway boss is fluffy now. weirder things have happened tbh.
- surprisingly enough, the whole thing stays pretty well contained within unova, ESPECIALLY nimbasa. emmet is THEIR subway boss and he's Going Through It. he deserves to be treated well. etc.
- ANYEEWAYE. cut back to hisui. ingo adopts akari etc etc etc. she starts helping him regain his memory. and the more things he remembers, the easier it IS to remember.
- once akari finishes the pokedex, he remembers a significant amount of his human life. not quite enough to be Normal, but a fair amount. (he also remembers some stuff from being a legendary dragon, but a legendary dragon is a LOT more long-lived than a human. there's a Lot there to remember. and is a lot more... nebulous of a mind than a human's.)
- akari takes him with her when she goes to fight arceus. ingo has a little chat <3. arceus puts ingo and emmet back how they were before, because they cannot exist in the long-term with their forms smushed together like that.
- (Emmet wakes up one day human again, doom-brains himself into thinking ingo died despite how that would be impossible (considering zekrom is literal deity, the embodiment of the concept of ideals.). spends like two hours like that before elesa and drayden and iris have to knock some sense into him.)
- arceus. like. because Ingo asked nicely, arceus retcons (not Really retcons because it knew ingo would ask this when it did it. time is weird) kyurem into having a human form. caveats of this includes. kyurem doesn't Know or Remember that they're kyurem. they can't shift into kyurem. etc. because kyurem shouldn't be able to have a human form in the first place because of their. them-ness. their existence. makes it impossible. but arceus makes it possible because ~hadwavey seals their power away and uses its own to keep the human form intact idk~ Arceus-ness.
- ingo and akari spend the next few weeks tying things up and saying goodbyes before they go home. (ingo goes around saying his goodbyes and expressing his gratitude to people. COMPLETELY forgetting to mention the very important fact that he was that one dragon guy. he goes around to the same people a second time, significantly more mortified, and explains.) (akari was there most of the time and let it happen. it was hilarious.)
- ANYWAY eventually ingo and akari go home. happy reunions time!!!
- (and then, of course. we get into what is almost like the postgame plot equivalent of the au dkshksdhksjsjd. Who Is Kyurem?)

Pokemon Horizons Episode 33 Review - Amethio VS Rayquaza
Silly Amethio, do you really think you have the power to defeat a legendary? He got WIPED by Rayquaza and it was a bit humiliating. Though, I do wonder why Rayquaza showed up. It seemed like he wasn’t as chummy towards Terapagos as the other Heroes were. Does it not like Terapagos?
I feel bad for Amethio. He keeps losing. From losing to Friede and now to Rayquaza. I do wonder what it is he’ll do to get stronger. I do commend him for using both his Ceruledge and Corviknight in battle. At least, he knows he has two Pokemon and can use them efficiently unlike Liko and Roy who insist on training only one of their Pokemon and not both. When was the last time we saw Wattrel and Hatenna do something?
Why is Roy being so reckless again? I’d assume he had learned his lesson back in Episode 22 where he and Liko wandered into the deeper parts of the mines and almost got themselves in danger. He was being stupid yet again with the way he was yelling at Rayquaza to challenge him. Roy, it’s dangerous out there and what makes you think you are at the level to challenge Rayquaza when it beat the snot out of Amethio? At least Amethio had two fully evolved Pokemon, but you have two basic level Pokemon! What makes you think a mere Fuecoco and Wattrel is gonna make you earn Rayquaza’s respect? I just hope that this will be the deciding factor for him to get some development once and for all. I think the bad aspect of this reckless side is that he never gets reprimanded by the adults for his thoughtlessness. He almost got Liko and Friede in danger but not once did they scold him.
Terapagos’s Terastalized form is shown for the first time, but briefly. I do wonder what sort of relationship Terapagos and Rayquaza have because the former doesn’t seem too fond of the latter. Will there be a fight between in the future? I’d like to see that. I did like how the transformation was caused by it seeing Liko and Roy almost getting hurt and it didn’t want that to happen.
Diana is leaving the ship but only Friede knows so far. It’s interesting that Diana is leaving to investigate more on the pendant, Terapagos and the Explorers and she wants the Rising Volt Tacklers to keep searching for the Heroes. I do think she’ll return someday. It’s also interesting to learn that Hamber and Diana were once friends before learning he was a part of the Explorers. It just fuels more into the mysteries of who they are. I did like that Diana decides to train Liko and Roy with her Arcanine just so they can help them improve their battling. Good thing it was a practice match, which gave the two a victory. Had Diana been serious, she would’ve knocked them both out. However, the Diana segment does give me uneasiness. What if Diana gets hurt or gets captured by the Explorers later on?
The final episode of the mini Terapagos segment is out. I did get it right with how it was about the Paldean Starters. The finale is Terapagos going to the kitchen because it was hungry and then encounters Rockruff and Alcremie. Alcremie gives them her cream and Shuckle gives them its juice. Quaxly freaks out over the mess. It was super cute over all!
Now that everything has become peaceful once again, where will they go to find the other heroes? How will they encounter Kleavor and Entei? Will Amethio return stronger? Will Roy get that character development he needs? What do you think about this episode?

-cracks knuckles- So, because I decided on a whim to make Scarlett the daughter of Zoe when I started playing Pkmn Scarlet, we've since seen a few potential origin stories for Scarlett:
Zoe found her in the woods and the fact that Scarlett looks nearly identical to her is a coincidence.*
1a. Scarlett was raised by a Kangaskhan until Zoe stumbled across her
2. Paradox Zoe theory
*this one is canon until I firmly, seriously lock in on another idea. Assume "found in the woods" is canon.
NOW, THIRD POTENTIAL ORIGIN STORY JUST DROPPED:
3. Clone Zoe theory
"How? Why?" Let's blame Colress. He's a freak who's more concerned with scientific advancement and acquiring knowledge than with the morality of it - hence why he signs on with Team Plasma despite personally hating Ghetsis' ass - and while the events of Black 2 lead him to the conclusion that the best way to draw out a Pokemon's strength and potential is through love and trust and the bond between Pokemon and trainer... I dunno, I don't trust that the man is fully hinged even after that. I think at some point he ponders the nature of the bond between Unova's legendary dragons and their human heroes and wonders what is it that binds them together. How did the dragons choose a hero. Is it based on some metaphysical concept like a soul. If he clones an identical version of one of the heroes, how would their dragon respond?
"Why Zoe and not N?" Colress hates Ghetsis' ass and while we don't know his opinions on N, and also would be getting into nature-vs-nurture with the whole clone thing, he decides that he'd rather deal with the unknown quantity of Reshiram's hero, than risk dealing with what he very much knows about Zekrom's hero. (Actually, wait, Colress has a line of dialogue where he says there's no way that a human could talk to Pokemon, so like. Does he even know N at all?)
That, or he came up with the clone idea even before he got pondering the bonds between Pokemon and trainer, for some other dubious scientific reason, and he asked Ghetsis if he could use Team Plasma's resources on this and Ghetsis is like "If you must do this, clone the girl, because I will throw you off this airship if you bring a second version of that freak [N] into the world" and Colress was like yeah sure okay.
Anyway years later Colress has a five-year-old clone and he sends off some anonymous messages to Zoe to try and goad her into a meeting and for her to bring Reshiram along because he wants to see how Reshiram will respond. Zoe shows up with Reshiram and also N in tow, and Colress is like "um. hm. hi. okay. anyway." and then he finds out that this entire scientific experiment was pointless because Reshiram doesn't respond in a way that allows him to get any data. Colress finds out N can talk to Pokemon and thinks that's great, because it will allow them to directly consult Reshiram, and so Colress asks Reshiram questions about what is it that connects Reshiram and Zoe, and does Reshiram recognize those same qualities in this clone?
Reshiram (via N): "That one is smaller."
Colress: "Well, yes, in physical size, of course. But internally, what do you sense? What do you feel?"
Reshiram: "That one is smaller." [N's later translation note: smaller here conveys a sense of mind and thought. Smaller in terms of life experience; younger is smaller.]
Colress: "...."
N: "How many years of your life you put into this, for this to be your answer."
Then Zoe, who has been stunlocked this entire time by the concept of a clone of herself, finally starts moving again and goes in to physically fight Colress - skip the prospect of a Pokemon battle, she's going to strangle the guy - and while Colress is trying to not get punched in the face, N picks up Scarlett and says "I'm just going to take this from you now. Goodbye."
Anyway, every increasingly-insane Scarlett origin story I come up with is funny because while Scarlett's background and early life may change, her present and personality do not. The fact that she's relatively normal and well-adjusted is very important to the way that she is both friends and character foils with Arven. The poor guy is jealous of his little buddy for the fact that she has two loving, present parents and then he finds out she was raised by Pokemon/grown in a lab for the first chunk of her life. What the fuck does he even do with that.

It started as the cliché love story about falling in love with your very own bestfriend
Which, actually turned out great??
His Zacian/Zamazenta loves you as much as it's trainer does, and is willing to protect you from anything
Probably because it observed Hop being protective over you, and proceeding to do the same
Sure it might took a toll on him when you defeated him on the championship semi-finals, but he wanted you to be happy more than anything
He's such a sweetheart even if he doesn't show it much
The type to appreciate small little things, especially when it comes from you
"Let's camp together!!"
You camped together
He got chased by a wild steelix whilst trying to gather data for his research later
His Zamazenta/Zacian was busy playing with your own legendary
*from the distance* "GAH! HELP!"
You ran after him and calmed down the wild steelix
Then you walked to him and checked if he got any wounds or scratches, which leads you to cupping his face gently with a worried look on your face
Hop's blushing
He's freaking out inside
You didn't notice the tint of blush dusting his cheeks,which gradually reddens with each second that passes
"im okay, dont worry" he tried his best reassuring you
Even though he's blushing, he proceeded to press his forehead gently against yours, closing his eyes and smiling
oh no he's cute
You're blushing

You let him do his thing, its somewhat calming
He's warmm
His hands are calloused, different from yours; you just remembered this when he placed his hand on top of yours while you were checking for his wounds from before
This just shows how much he's been working off to reach the champion title
And yet he's completely alright with you taking the spotlight
After all, you're his shining star
And he wouldn't have it in any other way
You let him borrow your champion cape
And he lets you borrow his labcoat
It fits just right with you! And it got his scent, which calms you down whenever you're feeling anxious
When you wear his labcoat, you're 1000000000% irresistible to his eyes
"Don't be so adorableee" he said as he pulled you into a hug and burying his face in your neck
You only laughed softly at his reaction. He was blushing too,,,
You often waited for him to finish his lab work, even if it's until late hours
He's a really hard worker, no wonder he stayed until late
"Im sorry for making you wait"
He looks exhausted, but tried his best to pull a bright smile, not wanting to worry you
You only gave him a warm hug, which surprised him at first before he hugs you back and proceed to walk you to your house

Comfort time
There's usually some jerks who'd tease you for being the champion, or flirt with you in an impolite way
If Hop caught on to this, he would politely ask them to leave
If they still dont understand, his legendary comes out of his pokeball and growl at them
He'd ask them one more time to stop bothering you, but this time, with a menacing smile that says "stay here any longer and you wont get to see another daylight"
Then he'd check up on you, asking if you're alright, if they did anything to you or whatnot
Hed wrap his arms around your waist and drape his labcoat over you, because he knows his labcoat always manages to calm you down
"It's okay, you're okay, everything is alright now, c'mere"
You let him hug you as you feel safe around him, and you two stayed in that position until you feel alright again

He's not the best at showing affection but at least he tries
You help him come out with quizzes for his gym challenge
And sometimes joke about the poses he makes when practicing
Sometimes, he gets reminded that you're the champion of Galar and he's way out of your trainer level
Which actually motivates him to become the strongest gym leader there is by pushing past his limits
"I'll show you how strong fairy types can be"
He said to himself as he was thinking about you
People kept misunderstanding fairy types after all, and thats a big mistake
You appreciate his efforts in maxing out his strength, and you show it by coming to his fairy stadium whenever he battles a challenger
You texted him "good luck, I'll be cheering 4 u!❤️❤️👍" before his matches start
And you looked at his direction after sending the message
He has just gotten your message, and opened it
Which leads to him blushing furiously as he covers his face with one of his hands
He took a deep breath and tried to regain his composure, only to fail miserably when he saw you looking at his direction with pure ambition and determined eyes as you grinned happily
All that i could say is, he's red as a beet
He wont lose this match, not when you're watching him.
He puts extra effort when you're watching his match, and made sure not to slip up. It'd be embarrassing if he did.
Opal notices this and only smiled seeing her successor acting out of his place whenever you're around
Opal knows something that you dont, and that's Bede's feelings for you
After his match ended, his Hatterene walked towards your direction, pulling you into a tight hug
You were surprised, but apparently Hatterene has grown to like you ever since she first met you
And when you look at Bede's direction, he was looking away with his arms crossed infront of his chest, visibly drowning in embarassment
,,,you wondered, is Bede projecting on his Hatterene or what,
Yes, yes he is
So you asked him if he also wants a hug, which of course he answered with "Why would i want a hug from someone like you? That'd be an insult to me"
You let go of Hatterene and hugged him anyways
He flinched when you hugged him, not knowing where to put his hands and just let them stay still in a defensive pose
Hatterene watched with a smile from behind you, seeing her master in such a flustered state was truly something new for the Pokemon
Not long after, Bede finally let his arms wrap around your waist, giving in to his subconscious and just hug you
he wanted to hug you anyways so thats a win win situation
You were actually surprised when he hugged you back
He smells nice!! Like perfume?? Cologne?? Floral scent
His Hatterene decided to join in and wrapped her arm around you both, making you all hug even more tightly
Bede cant handle this well.
No, not at all.
His face was really red and its hot— in all honesty, its cute, but he was burning
"Why do you have to embarrass me like this?"
You buried your face in his neck, which startled him as he couldn't think at all
"Y-you!!"
He feels nice and soft, so you're not planning to let go any sooner, likewise with Hatterene.
Bede's mind: ASDFGHJKL????—GODDAMMI—

His true nature would come out when you're not feeling yourself or when people would makw you feel like shit
"Hey.."
His face shows concern, but it still his usual look of coldness— however, his actions are warm despite his cold features
He'd let you wear his coat as he battles anyone who dared to hurt you
"Are you alright now..?"
He cupped your face and made you look at his face, swiping off the tears that stained your face with his thumbs delicately
He hated seeing you cry, and he'll try better next time to make sure you didn't cry

He's kind at all but sometimes he's just... "???????"
Training!! Dates!!
More like battle tower dates because he really admires your strength as a champion
Occasionally, he'd visit your house and check up on you, wondering if you're free for the day for "quality time"
At first, he was surprised to see one of the legendaries answering the door for you
And he couldn't resist to ruffle it's hair
your legendary on the other hand was kind of irritated by it
So it let out a displeased howl
Which leads you to come down stairs and see who is it
"L—leon?"
He looked up and greet you with a goofy grin as your legendary returned to your side, walking with you
He treats you like a gentleman, and sometimes is very strict with your training regimen
In which you usually whine about because you're the current champion and you have no business listening to him
But he'd swoon you with lovely words
And you would easily fall for it
you hate this
You hate him
No you dont
You love him, you could never hate a goofball like him anyways
Hey did i ever mention Leon's sense of direction is shitty
You went on a date in Wyndon a couple of times and he still gets lost everytime
"Ah!! Hey—....."
"Im lost again aren't i?"
He tried to find his way back to you but got surrounded by paparazzis
Even if he's not the current champion
You saved his butt since he couldn't say no to the people and his fans
He said thank you and hugged you, lifting you up to the air before pulling you close to him
This only made you laugh softly as you hugged him back, letting your fingers comb his thick lavender like hair
His body is warm and comforting, you really like his cuddles and hugs
He came into your house one time when you didn't answer his calls or messages, only to find you drown in your anxiety and self loathing
He pulled you in his arms and let you cry on his shoulder until you're all done and alright again
He'd draw circles over your back and tell you reassuring words— tell you that you're more than enough and he's grateful to have you here, alive and well
Your Zacian/Zamazenta got out of it's pokeball and helped you in calming you down too by giving you small licks on your knee
It'd whine whenever you're sad and climb onto your bed, nudging your arm afterwards as if it's asking what's wrong
You're lucky to have them both whenever you need them the most, and they're lucky to have you

It's finally the Character y'all been waitin for, dragon boi coming through
Okay serious talk here— Raihan is TALL
His hoodies makes you look smaller than you already are
You tried copying his "Gaooo~" pose a couple of times while wearing his hoodie
Its cutest thing he has ever seen his entire life
It makes him melt everytime
Okay aside from that, he's gentle and laid back, even if his personality is quite the opposite when he's on battle
He's cLINGY ASF
Don't forget his fangs, never forget his fangs
You're actually curious about his fangs since the first day you saw him
And he lets you touch it whenever you like
Youre still curious, because what the hell, its so cool
The first day you saw him after defeating him in a match and gain your gym badge, he immediately took an interest in you and your strength
"Hey Challenger!"
He called you before you tried to take your leave, gaining your attention
He then asked you if you want to practice with him next time, and have a rematch when you've become the champion
You agreed and exchanged numbers
What can i say, he spams you like?????? A lot
And casually sends you pictures of him and his duraludon
You love his dragons, especially flygon
Flygon loves you too, and one time it wanted to come with you
Raihan lets you keep his Flygon and you send him pictures of you with it
He sends emotes of duraludon crying, wanting to join you and your fun trip with Flygon to grab the Champion title
After you took the Champion title, Raihan greeted you with a big hug
And you hug him back with no hesitation
"Congratulations, may i have a selfie with the new Champion?"
He asked in a teasing manner, letting you down on your feet as you nodded
You took a selfie selfwith him numerous times before he posted it to his social media
He captioned 'First person to get a selfie with the new Champion'
He took pride in that, and some of his fans were jealous that you managed to get a selfie with him
From that day onwards, he'd have casual selfies with you, sometimes hilarious one and sometimes its just for showing off
You didn't mind it really, he's a celebrity anyways, so you understand why he does that
"Hey.. do stars have feelings"
It was three am what the fuck Raihan
You squinted at your screen seeing his message
"Why in the Galar would you be awake, dear Dragon tamer?"
You answered him
And immediately he answered "oh? The Champion is awake?"
You guys didn't sleep afterwards and was sending streaks of blurry selfies
It was fun and helped you cheer up
You got some of his blurry pics that he captioned "party rock in the house" when clearly its just him and his pokemons

just beat legends arceus! i livetweeted the game on my priv but wanted to compile my thoughts in one post (spoilers):
this has to be my favourite pokemon game in a long time... i’m definitely biased because i’m a die-hard sinnoh fan, so all the ancestors, extra lore and music remixes were super exciting for me. of course it isn’t perfect - i wish game freak had gotten more development time, particularly to flesh out the environments (a lot of the areas feel very samey), but overall i had a great experience! the new mechanics are really fun (took me 75 hours of playtime to reach the end credits because i was so caught up in research tasks and sidequests...) and i think the story/characters are pretty solid... by pokemon standards, anyway, haha
i went into the game almost blind, with only knowledge of promotional materials and final starter evos, so i had no idea what to expect from the story or which ancestors might show up - i spent a good 2/3 of the game getting increasingly more deranged waiting for the hypothetical riley ancestor to make an appearance and i LOST my mind when he finally did:
LOOK AT THIS MAN, thinking he’s in a kurosawa movie. thinking he’s so cool. i love him. he’s an idiot, he’s perfect.
and i love how he’s just a random dude from the village, in comparison to other stat trainer ancestors who get to be wardens etc... it’s so perfect for riley. he’s really just some guy with his dog. and the fact that this iteration of him canonically fucks is hysterical.
also, i cannot believe that RILEY’S HAT IS A PURCHASABLE ITEM lmao this game actually gave us the origin story of riley’s hat, of all things. rye really just bought this random hat from the local clothier one day and passed it down for generations...
the best part about this is that now i can use the 3d model as drawing reference for the hat, haha
other characters i also liked: adaman, melli, palina, rei, zisu, cyllene, VOLO (i have so much to say about this fucking guy), the ingo appearance was a fun surprise too! though i do feel bad for him... i like that when anabel gets sent to another dimension, she gets a suit + a glow-up, but when it happens to ingo, he just gets more fucked up LMFAO
anyway, the character designers knocked it out of the park, as usual. the new pokemon designs, on the other hand... there are some hits (mostly the ones they showed before release), but a lot of the others are misses (though i did warm up to some of them after using them). i also wish there was more of a... distribution variety? in the pokemon available to you. like, logically, i know why most of the wild pokemon have to be sinnoh mons, but after coming off of bdsp it does feel a bit like, i just saw these guys, you know? other than that, i enjoyed the addition of alpha pokemon. it’s too bad the legendaries don’t have alpha variants afaik, because it’s so fun collecting Big Pokemon... the way you can send your pokemon out/interact with them in the overworld is super cute too. just that sense of companionship!
ok now for the big thing i wanted to talk about... VOLO... i was completely blindsided by the reveal?!?! i thought he was super annoying for most of the game (similar issue i have with sholmes (dgs) and gojou (jjk) where i feel they try way too hard to appear quirky/mysterious/likeable), but the moment he showed his ass he instantly became my favourite character (of course)... i think it’s a fun play on expectations! you sort of automatically trust him since he’s cynthia’s ancestor, and you think you’re done with “twist” villains after beni + kamado. earlygame i actually offhandedly suspected volo might be bad, but he just earned so much goodwill during the banishment arc that it cleared any doubts i had about him and made me think he had to be a good guy after all. i did not see this coming at all lmao
the deranged shin megami tensei rant was awesome, the theme arrangement was awesome, the battle was awesome (i lost to him like 6 times before FINALLY beating him - the trainer AI in this game is pretty good, haha), it was all so memorable!!! a really interesting spin on cynthia’s character. the way he walks off afterwards is a bit anti-climactic, but i guess it’s still a pokemon game at the end of the day, so no crazy finalities... i just can’t believe pokemon finally managed to pull off a twist villain. and i’m sure there are smug gamer guys out there saying they saw it coming from a mile away, but for me the twist was super effective...
i realised i've mostly just talked about the characters, rather than gameplay, but i really do hope they make more entries like this going forward! i didn’t even realise i was tired of the standard pokemon formula until i played this game, and now i’m like, wow... how am i supposed to go back... the single-player exploration stuff is so good... please give me more of this...
sinnoh has a special place in my heart so future legends entries probably won’t even hit the same, but objectively there’s just so much potential to be had here. if they build upon this foundation and improve it for future games, then i think the results will be fantastic... this game really re-ignited my love for pokemon! i love pokemon!! argh!!!
i have a couple more thoughts but i think i’ll leave it here for now... maybe i’ll add to this post later lol

True Intentions
So, the latest Pokemon Masters event gave me Feelings, and therefore I had to write something for it.
Needless to say, this contains Pokemon Masters event spoilers, verbal/mental abuse, and one reference to physical child abuse.
And in case the “read more” breaks, this is also tagged as a long post.
N stepped into the cave, his heart thudding. He could see the oh-so familiar cloaked figure in the distance, and he swallowed hard. He was not alone, for which he was very grateful, but companionship was not doing much to assist his nerves.
‘You’re sure about this?’ his companion dubiously asked. In Nate’s opinion, N was making a huge mistake, and it was not yet too late to turn back.
‘Yes. This is the answer I’ve come to. I’m sure,’ N insisted, and Nate held back a sigh. Damn it. ‘...Thank you for coming with me, though.’
‘It’s fine,’ Nate replied. ‘I wouldn’t want you to go and see him alone.’
‘Mmmm,’ N murmured. He knew only too well that Nate had a point. ‘We need to be careful when dealing with a man like… him.’
N had tripped over his words. He was uncertain how to refer to the man they were meeting. “Ghetsis”? “Father”? As much as he wanted to call the man “Father”... it was too soon. Much too soon for that.
‘I’m still a little worried,’ N confessed, after a pregnant pause.
‘Yeah, well no matter what happens, I’m on your side,’ Nate promised.
‘Thank you…’
Any further conversation was cut off, by a sudden interruption.
‘N! You’ve come to see me!’ a voice called out. For a moment, N froze; when they entered, Ghetsis had his back to them. His and Nate’s conversation had been in whispers, and he had assumed Ghetsis had not seen them yet.
He shook himself out of his reverie, his face calm, stoic, as he turned to lock eyes once again with the man he called Father, his abuser.
At least in appearance, Ghetsis had not changed. N sincerely hoped that was the only thing that remained static. Incredibly tall, Ghetsis towered over those he met, and his own son was no exception. He still used a cane. N’s gaze lowered to the gloved hand that held onto it, as his mind helplessly wandered to thoughts of what was hidden beneath the cloak. Was Ghetsis’ health the same? Had it improved? Or perhaps worsened?
That was the most likely scenario; Ghetsis always had a great love of expensive wines, scotches and other such alcoholic drinks, and it had taken its toll on him. Combined with one arm, the nerves permanently damaged by his Hydreigon, Ghetsis was an incredibly unhealthy man.
N lifted his head, staring his father in the eyes. One was still covered, and the other just as vividly scarlet as he remembered. It was difficult for him to maintain eye contact, but he forced himself to push through it.
‘I’ve come to let you know my answer,’ N declared. He had taken a quiet, deep breath in before speaking, to ensure his voice would not wobble, nor crack.
His head had been spinning, ever since Ghetsis initially approached him. Wanting to be a father to him again…
Though in order for him to be a father “again”, he had to have been one before. N knew that, deep down. But it was a thought he tried to keep pushed to the back of his mind.
‘Let’s send out our Pokemon,’ N added, when Ghetsis remained silent, just observing him.
Zekrom and Kyurem were both released from their Pokeballs, two thirds of the Tao Trio coming eye to eye with one another again for the first time in years.
‘Well? What’s your answer?’ Ghetsis demanded. Still so impatient.
‘...I don’t think it’s possible for us to become a true father and son so easily…’ N cautiously replied. His nerves were threatening to spill over, and he grabbed the brim of his cap. Something to focus on, while under his father’s scarlet gaze. ‘But… if you’ve really had a change of heart, and are seriously prepared to face people and Pokemon, then… maybe one day, it will be. That’s why I need you to show me that you have love in your heart -’
Ghetsis, the lower half of his face hidden by his incredibly high collar, clenched his jaw together tightly. How the fuck was he going to do that?
‘- through battle!’
Oh. The former Plasma leader relaxed. That was alright, then.
‘Father!’ The word escaped N’s lips, as he called out to the man before him. Ghetsis’ eyes slid shut.
‘I am grateful you’ve given me this opportunity…’ he started, his voice soft. N’s demeanour changed a little - Ghetsis was accepting what he said? Then maybe, just maybe, he had been telling the truth, after all! If Ghetsis could work on his issues, and treat those around him like human beings, and N himself like one, instead of an extension of Ghetsis, then -
‘Thank you for this chance.’ Ghetsis’ voice pulled N out of his thoughts again. The Plasma leader’s face twisted into a wicked grin, as he leant forward on his cane, a malicious glint in his eye. ‘To capture Zekrom for myself!’
No. No, please, God, no -
‘What?’ N gasped. The words left him winded, as though Ghetsis had struck him with his cane.
And it was a feeling he remembered all too well.
‘Now! Restrain Zekrom!’ Ghetsis commanded, his voice thunderous, as N tried to wrap his head around what was going on.
How could you be so stupid? Of COURSE Ghetsis was going to betray you, it’s what he DOES! the former king mentally chastised. How could he have been taken in so well? How, even now, with years free from Ghetsis’ influence, could he still be so easily manipulated?
As Ghetsis slammed his cane down on the rocky ground, several unfamiliar figures in black and white masks suddenly leapt out, having been waiting for Ghetsis’ signal. More Pokeballs were flung into the air, as more Pokemon were sent out, between N and Ghetsis.
Crackles of electricity zapped around Zekrom, the giant legendary held in place. N had frozen up again, feeling helpless, lost for what to do.
‘Zekrom!’ he cried.
‘It can’t move,’ Ghetsis said, a sinister chuckle coming forth. ‘I took special measures to use Pokemon that can hold it in place.’
N’s hands clenched into tight fists, shaking. How could I be so stupid? The entire thing had been a scam. Not only had Ghetsis prepared his Hydreigon to counter his team, not only had he made sure the Shadow Triad had Pokemon that could take down Zekrom, he had now done the same thing again on Pasio, to ensure he got what he wanted!
And like a fool, I fell for it, N’s mind traitorously whispered.
‘What d’you think you’re doing?!’ Nate angrily snapped. He looked as though, if the Pokemon were not there, he would run at Ghetsis and try to physically attack him.
‘I can’t believe you’d actually do such a thing…’ N’s voice was flat, hollow, belying the deep sense of betrayal that was rooting him on the spot.
‘Of course I would!’ Ghetsis taunted, cackling. In typical Ghetsis style, he seemed to be relishing rubbing salt into the wound. When he spoke again, his voice was a disdainful sneer, not making the slightest effort to mask his contempt for his own child. ‘I only put on that ridiculous act so that I could get my hands on Zekrom! That is all you’re worth to me! As if we could be a true family! Me? With a freak like you?!’
N’s jaw was clamped tightly shut, only barely managing to contain an outburst of pain at Ghetsis’ words. He had heard that insult too many times.
“He’s nothing more than a freak without a human heart!”
“DON’T TALK LIKE A PERSON, YOU FREAK!”
He had lost count of just how many times that word had been wielded like a weapon against him throughout his entire life. Every time he had attempted to talk to his father, particularly about his ability to talk to Pokemon, it had always gone the same way.
And that was no doubt the reason why, as an adult, he was still being called a freak. Because Ghetsis had always refused to believe his claims.
The fight had left N, and he did not bother to counter his father’s harsh words. But Nate was livid.
‘How dare you play with N’s feelings like that?!’ he yelled, launching his Pokeball into the air, Braviary bursting from it. ‘I’m going to help N protect Zekrom!’
With an instruction to attack, and N still paralysed, Nate began to battle the Team Break grunts that had gathered under Ghetsis’ command, and easily took them down. As the last opposing Pokemon fell, Ghetsis’ expression twitched, ever so slightly.
‘...Not bad,’ he conceded. ‘I can feel your anger!’ And it fuelled him.
‘Next is the pair holding down Zekrom!’ Nate declared. The Team Break trainer in question looked concerned as Nate attacked again.
‘That’s enough.’
A new, commanding voice interjected, as yet another Pokemon appeared. The sleek, yet threatening form of Mewtwo landed between Ghetsis and Team Break, and N and Nate, pushing the latter two back. Mewtwo extended one arm, launching a hard blast of psychic power, taking Braviary down. Trying not to panic, Nate recalled his Pokemon before it could hit the ground, as N gawped at the newcomer.
‘Is… is that…?’ His voice trailed off, his eyes wide in horror when he recognised his father’s ally.
‘Stay out of my way,’ Giovanni warned, his voice a low snarl. He looked almost exactly as N remembered. He had not seen anything of Team Rocket himself, not even on the news; Ghetsis had done too good a job when Team Rocket were around, of keeping N secluded and ignorant of the outside world. But the boy had heard things from his sisters, and done his own research since escaping Team Plasma.
This Giovanni did not look too dissimilar to the man he had seen in photos. Perhaps a little older, his face slightly more lined. A few flecks of grey in an otherwise jet black head of hair. But the biggest difference, was the symbol emblazoned on the breast of his jacket. Not a red R, but multicoloured. Reds, yellows, greens and blues, one colour transforming into the other.
Rainbow Rocket Giovanni rolled up a sleeve. In doing so, he revealed not just the fact that his arm was so heavily tattooed that his skin colour could not be seen, but more importantly, the Mega Bracelet enclosed around his wrist.
‘Giovanni?’ N questioned, as the man in question approached, coming to a stop beside Mewtwo. ‘W-What are you doing here?’
The realisation that an already bad situation had just gotten worse caused N’s voice to crack. Which in turn made Ghetsis smirk. N was afraid. Good.
‘I just so happened to meet Ghetsis, while recruiting Team Break members,’ Giovanni explained. The apparently leaderless team had been like a gift for him. Already organised, already with their own Pokemon, all they needed was someone to take them under their wing. Someone to guide them.
And who better than Giovanni?
‘He told me all about his plans. And if he’s able to get his hands on your Zekrom, then that works out perfectly for me.’
In just getting him this far, this Ghetsis had already proven himself to be much more useful than the one he had already met and recruited into Rainbow Rocket. But, Giovanni was a smart man. He knew that the Rainbow Rocket Ghetsis had already tried to manipulate him, and was absolutely prepared for the current Ghetsis to try and do the same. Ghetsis no doubt had his own hidden agenda, but he was certainly not the only one.
‘Yes, so I should thank you for gathering these pawns, and sharing your information with me,’ Ghetsis smirked. ‘I’ll be sure to return the favour. Now, our preparations are complete! I will soon possess a legendary that combines two powers!’
‘No…!’ Nate gasped.
‘The fusion of Kyurem and Zekrom…’ N murmured, the memories of the exact same thing happening before flying through his mind.
‘Watch this moment closely!’ Ghetsis cried out, as he approached the trapped Zekrom, Giovanni keeping close behind him.
‘Zekrom!’ N called.
‘Ghetsis, don’t do it!’ Nate added. He knew too well that there was no way Ghetsis would listen, but without his Pokemon and badly outnumbered, there was not much else he could do.
‘Kyurem! Absorb Zekrom, use Absofusion!’ Ghetsis ordered, an unhinged, determined grin set upon his face.
‘Now’s my chance,’ Giovanni quietly said, watching the scene intently. He snapped his fingers. ‘Do it.’
Mewtwo reappeared, floating in the gap between the two other legendaries, facing Kyurem down.
‘What the -?’ Nate spluttered. N looked similarly taken aback.
‘They stopped them from fusing?’ he questioned, not entirely certain whether he believed what he was seeing.
‘What do you think you’re doing?’ Ghetsis spat, glowering at Giovanni. He slammed his cane on the ground again. ‘Giovanni!’
‘Well, you see… I too have a plan,’ Giovanni replied. ‘I know how you operate, Ghetsis. Perhaps a little too well, and the way I see it, once you have both of these legendaries under your command, your next move will be to secure more pawns to make use of. And as these Team Break members answer to me, I know that it’d be me you target next.’
Ghetsis remained silent, teeth bared. As Giovanni observed him, he could see that he had been completely right. Granted, it would not have been out of character for Ghetsis to lie, and claim he had nothing of the sort planned, but he surmised Ghetsis would only have done that if he were calmer. And the ex Plasma leader, as he was currently, looked apoplectic with rage.
Ghetsis’ raging, hateful silence was the only answer Giovanni required.
‘So, I intend to take Kyurem and Zekrom before that can happen!’
‘How cunning,’ Ghetsis hissed. ‘But it’s too little, too late.’
More masked members of Team Break appeared, again, on Ghetsis’ cue, standing beside him, as Giovanni’s eyes widened, just for a second.
‘What?’
‘You are not the only one who has a talent for convincing people to join you,’ Ghetsis gloated. ‘I am more than capable of that, too! A faction of Team Break is already under my command!’
Oh, shit. This was not what Giovanni had in mind. He knew exactly what Ghetsis was planning, yet the son of a bitch still out-witted him!
Despite his inner panic, the Rainbow Rocket leader’s expression continued to be a smug grin, as though it was all a game they were playing. He would be damned if he was going to let Ghetsis know that he was rattled.
‘I guess I underestimated you after all,’ he admitted. ‘In that case… Mewtwo, get them!’
‘Rise! We must defeat Giovanni!’ Ghetsis roared.
‘...So they’ve broken their alliance,’ N mused, as more Pokemon were sent out. With the attention mostly taken off Zekrom, N felt he could breathe a little more easily. ‘...I suppose they were never actually allies in the first place…
‘I want to help Zekrom, but there are way too many Pokemon over there…’ Nate fretted.
‘Go, Volcarona!’
Another new voice entered the fray, as a familiar Volcarona appeared over N’s head, striking the Team Break Pokemon. As they were knocked out, N and Nate spun around on their heels to see the former champion, Alder Castillo, striding forward. He was staring directly at Ghetsis, his expression set into a look of grim determination, with a young redhead behind him.
‘Alder! Silver!’ Nate greeted, a wave of relief washing through him to have some backup.
‘I had an unpleasant feeling that something bad would happen,’ Alder stated. The sensation of foreboding had been with him ever since he learnt Ghetsis was back. He knew that N had been ambivalent about forgiving him, and having a proper father and son relationship with the man again. And Alder did not want to completely squash his hopes of that happening. He had been direct with stating that he did not trust Ghetsis, but seeing the look of utter defeat in the young boy’s eyes, Alder had to wonder just what he had missed. That maybe he had not been severe enough. Perhaps he should have explicitly told N not to trust his despicable excuse for a “father”, even for the faintest fraction of a second. ‘I’m glad we made it in time. We took care of the Team Break members at the entrance, but reinforcements are on their way right now! We need to get out of here!’
Silver, the young redhead, was not paying any attention to Alder. Nor was he even paying any attention to Ghetsis. No, his gaze was firmly on Giovanni, and his expression was one of hatred.
‘Oh?’ Giovanni questioned, glancing over. He was uncertain how to react, so he kept the same usual smug demeanour. This boy was not his Silver, but was a Silver. And clearly things had gone the same way between him and his Giovanni, as they had in the Rainbow Rocket leader’s timeline.
‘I have more important things to worry about right now, than him,’ Silver declared, without giving one single fuck about the fact that his voice was loud enough for Giovanni to hear. Not that Giovanni seemed bothered. He was used to it from his own Silver. ‘Come on, hurry up!’
Now freed, N turned back to the rest of the group to see Zekrom land before him.
‘I’m so glad you’re okay…’ he murmured, relief sparkling in his eyes.
‘Let’s get out of here,’ Nate urged.
Sensing that the situation was no longer in their favour, the Team Break grunts who had followed Ghetsis began to retreat, much to his annoyance.
‘Tch… Worthless fools,’ he growled.
‘Now that a former champion has arrived, I suppose I have no choice but to give up on Zekrom,’ Giovanni decided. For now. ‘Kyurem, on the other hand, will be mine.’
‘I warned you before…’ Ghetsis started, his voice dripping with rage, before suddenly ramping up to a scream, ‘NOT TO UNDERESTIMATE ME!’
The cane struck the ground, as Kyurem roared. Alder winced at the noise, but Giovanni seemed unbothered. A snap of his fingers later, and he was gone, along with Mewtwo. Alder glanced back, seeing N approach, and noticed how the boy looked mentally exhausted. It was no surprise, Alder guessed that N must felt like he had been put through the wringer.
Because he had been. He was about to speak up, to try and reach out to N, when Nate interrupted with another insistence that they should leave. He was right, the less time they spent in the cave, the better. Giovanni might have been gone, but there was still Ghetsis to contend with.
N stopped before he reached Alder and Nate. And, without breathing a word, he turned his back, and strode over to his father.
‘...What?’ Ghetsis questioned, a look of annoyed confusion on his face. N refused to clarify, but stayed by his side.
‘What are you doing? Just leave him!’ Silver irritably told N.
‘Yes, what are you doing?’ Ghetsis agreed, clearly as baffled as his son’s friends.
‘...I want to save Kyurem, regardless of whose Pokemon it is. Even if that means I have to help you...’ N finally answered, without looking at any of them. Part of him had to wonder what the hell he was doing, siding up with Ghetsis, after how Ghetsis had betrayed him, insulted him, and openly laughed about it. He told himself that he was not doing this for Ghetsis’ sake, or even his own.
This was for Kyurem.
‘...I won’t call you my father, Ghetsis.’ That was fine with the Plasma leader. His skin always crawled when that word left N’s mouth. Disgusting. N turned and looked at him. ‘But if you co-operate, I’ll help you get out of this!’
‘I see. Very well. That’s convenient for me,’ Ghetsis replied. No “thank you”, but of course not. N had never gotten a “please” or a “thank you” from Ghetsis in his life, and he definitely did not expect that to change now. ‘Let’s take him down, N!’
‘N and Ghetsis, standing side by side…’ Nate muttered. The idea left him unsettled. It was wrong. He brought the Pokeball with his unconscious Braviary in it up to his mouth, whispering to it, as he used a revive. ‘Just a little longer, we need to help N…’
‘Hey!’ Silver called out, as Nate and Braviary took off.
‘It’s too late to stop them. Let’s just make sure that they have a safe escape route,’ Alder told the redhead.
‘The plan is to hold off Mewtwo until he can’t come after you any more, alright?’ N told his father.
‘Yes,’ Ghetsis crisply agreed.
‘Well, why don’t we put it to the test?’ Giovanni questioned, as he was joined by his own Team Break grunts again, now they had recovered from the previous fight. ‘Let’s see what your little father-son team up can do!’
Nate’s Braviary, and the two other legendaries opposing Giovanni started the battle, fighting ferociously against the Rainbow Rocket leader and his underlings. It was not long until it was just the legendaries against each other, and with Mewtwo outnumbered, it was Giovanni’s team that fell.
‘...Hmph, I suppose that does surpass my expectations,’ he reluctantly confessed.
‘After him!’ Ghetsis then commanded.
‘No! You remember what I said earlier, don’t you?! We’re getting out of here!’ N countered.
‘What?’ Ghetsis hissed, angry that N spoke back to him. But he could see that this time, N was not going to be moved. ‘Fine.’
‘Too bad,’ Giovanni said to himself, as the others left. ‘This would have been so much easier had you stayed here...’ He glanced to the cave exit. ‘Go after them.’
‘Hey!’
Giovanni had assumed that it was just him, Mewtwo, and his underlings left. That the others had all left with Ghetsis and N. So he was surprised when he saw himself suddenly face to face with his son.
‘That’s enough. Your plan failed,’ Silver glared. ‘Let them go, or else!’
To Giovanni’s surprise, the Pokemon that Silver released was none other than Ho-Oh.
When did Silver obtain a legendary of his own? Giovanni thought, as Ho-Oh flapped its wings and released a loud cry.
‘...Change of plans,’ Giovanni decided, recalling Mewtwo. ‘We’re leaving.’
His decision confused his underlings, who had been readying themselves for another fight.
‘B-But sir…?’ one hesitantly questioned.
‘The more people you command, the harder it is to control them. I think learning that much is enough for today,’ Giovanni replied. He tilted his head, glancing to the side at Silver. ‘Besides… I’m very pleased by what I’ve seen today.’
Silver pulled a face, and blinked. Was Giovanni complimenting him? For standing up to him? Obtaining Ho-Oh? But once the shock quickly wore off, his expression turned back to angry. He was not going to be taken in, be swayed by Giovanni’s words! This man had no idea who Silver was, if he thought a few pretty words could appease him.
It was probably a lie, anyway.
Silver headed outside the cave again, where the rest of the group - unfortunately, still including Ghetsis - were waiting for him.
‘I think they’ve stopped coming after us now,’ Silver declared, without offering any explanation as to why he had stayed behind. None of them needed to know about him challenging Giovanni. Or what Giovanni had said to him.
‘I see. In that case…’ Alder pointedly looked back at Ghetsis.
‘You want to come after me, now? I can’t allow that to happen,’ he warned. ‘Perhaps we can come to a truce for today. What do you think, N?’
‘...I know that you haven’t changed, at all,’ N said, and Alder was relieved. He had been concerned that siding with Ghetsis to protect him might have caused N to start reconsidering, again. He wanted nothing more than for N to have a father he could be happy with, but as long as his father was Ghetsis, that was just not possible. ‘If you do anything to harm the people or Pokemon here, I will be the first in line to stop you!’
‘I’ll keep that in mind,’ Ghetsis replied, tone thick with sarcasm. Clearly he did not believe N to be a big enough threat to him. ‘Then, farewell.’
‘Wait, Ghetsis!’ Nate then called. Ghetsis paused, not turning back around to face them, but instead peered over his shoulder, to see what Nate wanted. ‘I hate you. I’ll never forget what you did in Unova! But you’re still N’s father! You raised him, and spent all those years together!’
Ghetsis had no idea where Nate was going with his tangent, and neither did N. N’s childhood had been spent cooped up inside one room. A very spacious room, admittedly, but still locked away from the rest of the world, and fed only whatever information Ghetsis deemed worthy of him knowing. As much as N longed for change, he was no longer blind to the horrendous circumstances that stole his childhood.
So why was Nate bringing it up?
‘Are you really going to say you felt nothing when the two of you were fighting side by side?!’ Nate demanded. ‘It’s not too late to change your ways! Please, at least think about it!’
Oh. N braced himself. He was certain that Ghetsis was going to scoff, laugh hysterically at such a ridiculous notion, and he knew it was going to hurt.
‘Nate…’ N began.
‘Ghetsis!’ Nate repeated, when he got no reply. And N’s heart sunk to his stomach, when sure enough, Ghetsis began to chuckle. At last, he turned back properly to face them, and erupted with laughter.
‘You naive fool! Our relationship is nothing more than that between a master and his tools! What happened here changes nothing!’ he barked, before turning his evil scarlet gaze onto N. ‘As long as I can keep using you, I don’t care what you call our relationship! I do whatever I please! I am not your ally, not your friend, and I am certainly not your father!’
In unison, N and Nate both tugged on the brims of their headwear. Nate in embarrassment, and upset for N, and N to try and cover his face. He was attempting to be as expressionless as he could, but the hurt shone in his eyes.
‘How dare you -!’ Silver began, readying to go into a full force rant.
‘Despicable,’ Alder quickly interjected, unwilling to let the youngster draw too much of Ghetsis’ attention. ‘You’re the one without a heart!’
‘If that’s all,’ Ghetsis sneered, their anger and words bouncing off him. With another - but more sardonic - farewell, Ghetsis was whisked away by Kyurem, leaving them free of him at last.
‘I had a bad feeling this might happen,’ Alder sighed. ‘N, my apologies. I think I should have stopped you before you went to help him.’
‘Don’t apologise,’ N said, to Alder and Nate. ‘It was my decision. Please, don’t be sad on my behalf.’
‘...Nate, are you crying again?’ Silver questioned. He looked embarrassed.
‘You truly have a kind heart,’ N gently told Nate, ‘one that resonates with others. You got angry for the people of Unova, you yelled at Ghetsis for me… and now, you’re even crying for me...’
‘I can’t help it! It’s just all so messed up!’ Nate wept. ‘You’re not asking for anything special! You just want a normal relationship with the man you call your father! It’s not asking for much! Why can’t you have that too?!’
‘Nate… It’s okay.’ It was a lie, but a lie told for N’s own sake as well as Nate’s. Right now, he felt like being strong for his friend distracted him from his own pain. ‘I may not have a father, but I have good friends like you.’
‘N…’ Nate sniffled.
‘Yeah, you can survive without a father,’ Silver chimed in, and N nodded in agreement.
I’m blessed to be surrounded by such kind people and Pokemon. That’s enough for me. I suppose… a father figure was just never meant to be.
...But it was nice to hope for it.

An alternative reading of the Suicune Episode (or, hey what if this educational video was important to canon)
So first up, because I hardly see anyone talking about it: there’s a planetarium special for pokemon journeys. They’ve done a lot actually, for several years and seasons, but the most recent one is from journeys. There’s not a lot of talk of it over in the west; I blame that mainly on it being an education special, not a proper episode, and it having a limited run because of current events. (Note: from what I can find, the show is still running, so if you wanna go see it (and actually can) now you know!
I found out about it via a long rabbit hole on bulbapedia, and even then there isn’t a proper plot summary on bulbapedia itself. I had to find someone elses review and summary. So here’s a quick run down for all of you!

Beyond this point I’ll be getting into some spoilers, though I won’t be doing a retelling of the whole plot, only what’s relevant. If you’d like more information, click here to read the full summary I mentioned and here’s a trailer (it’s in 3d!) on youtube.
Now from what I’ve read and been able to find, this looks really freaking cool, I think it’s awesome, but that’s not what’s I’m trying to do in this essay-thing. You may have noticed the cool looking Suicune in the banner. You may also have noticed Raboot. And you may remember that the episode in which Goh catches Suicune (JN053) takes place after Raboot evolves into Cinderace. Meaning that if we are to take this episode as canon, it must come before the episode where Goh catches Suicune.
And listen, I know this is an education special for kids. I know it’s not meant to be canon, I know there’s more than one Suicune (I think? Still not clear how legendary pokemon work actually), I know. This is for fun and because wacky theories can lead to interesting fan content.
Now Suicune’s role in the special is pretty simple: it’s the legend of a northern town, though no one in the village has seen it before. Because of the upcoming Aurora, Prof. Cerise thinks that Suicune might show up, so he sends Goh and Ash to meet with a girl named Emma who lives in the village since her father is a pokemon scientist. Later a snowstorm hits and while Goh, Ash and Emma all huddle against a tree for safety, they end up all falling asleep in the snow. They’re saved by Suicune, who (theoretically, its not shown) pulled them out of the snow and placed them in this cave. Emma wakes up first to find Suicune, but her waking up startles Suicune, and it runs off before the boys wake up. They do get to see it run across the night sky later though, and that’s pretty much the end.
The most important thing to note here is that a) Suicune saves Ash, Goh and Emma, and b) it leaves before either of the boys can get a good look at it, or talk to it.
Now lets look at the Suicune episode!
To summarize quickly: Suicune is being attacked, Goh saves Suicune with a ball. Suicune exits the ball, does not trust Goh. Goh earns Suicune’s trust, and when Suicune is attacked again, allies with Goh, and they manage to defeat the pokemon hunters. Then, Goh leaves the pokeball on the ground so Suicune can leave again, but Suicune decides to stay as Goh’s pokemon while travelling the world.
(and to be clear, Goh caught Suicune to keep it away from the hunters, not to keep it for himself. I think the ending made that clear enough.)
So how does the context of the planetarium special change things?
Well you can interpret it in a few ways! Firstly, lets take into account that Suicune saved Goh (and ash and emma’s) life, and neither of the boys even got to see Suicune before it headed off. So Goh getting the chance to thank Suicune via saving it this time is really interesting! It also makes for a spectacular parellel; Suicune saving Goh from nature vs Goh saving Suicune from humans. (Suicune being like a nature god and Goh being a human)
And Goh is smart in the Suicune episode, I could go on for ages about how he used the pokeball to end the first fight without having to be violent and being much more effective, how he let Raichu deliver the berries because he knew he wouldn’t be trusted as a human, turning away from it so it felt safer, he demonstrates so much care and willingness to understand Suicune, it’s so good. I like seeing how much care he put into helping it, how his research about effective berries for poison and knowing the type chart for the later battle came into play!
Another thing to note: Goh explicitly turns away from Suicune several times in the episode. I have a few theories on why this might be, one of which being that Suicune does not like to be looked at by humans. This is reinforced by the planetarium special, as it hadn’t been seen by anyone in the village despite being its guardian (perhaps because it doesn't want to be seen?) and because it ran away when Emma woke up and saw it.
Having the boys be saved by Suicune earlier also makes Ash’s “what a nice guy, that Suicune.” line even funnier.
There are lots of ways to take the special into consideration, and I think it’s an interesting way to look at it! My personal favourite interpretation is that Goh researches more on Suicune after being saved by it and uses that information to help it and pay it back in the Suicune episode! That’s just my opinion though, and I’ve love to see what other people think about these two episodes!

A song to heal a tired soul 26 (Raikichi x Piers)
Rated: Teen and mature
Warnings: Bad language, NSFW, TW mention to death
Note: Raikichi is around 25-26 years
----------------------PART 26-------------------------------
Fire was around us. Lumiose City was a big chaos. People and Pokemon running away, trying to seek refuge while Team Flare, with the power of the ultimate weapon, was going to destroy everything. I managed to get Xerneas out of Lysandre’s labs and now I was on my way to confront that man. When I was flying on my Mega Charizard X, something attacked us. It was him, with a very big Pokemon; the one that attacked us. Yveltal? I didn’t know. I fell from my Charizard and ended on the floor, getting my right leg very wounded and my ribs broken; I noticed the terrible pain of the broken ribs when I moved and when I breathed. Fuck. At least, Glaceon and Charizard were less wounded than me. My Charizard was still mega evolved so she could still fight together with Glaceon.
“Look at you” Lysandre said, landing in front of me, with his Mega Gyarados at his side, but not sight of the other Pokemon “The mighty and invencible World Champion is now on her knees. Bow and show respect to the new King of Kalos!”
“Never” I said, using my extensible battle staff to stood up since my right leg was very wounded “I would never serve a false king!! You’ve taken AZ’s machine to cause problems and chaos!! You don’t understand what the last ruler of Kalos finally understood!! Destroying this world and creating another one following your stupid ideals of beauty...Is insane!! There is beauty in everything, but you don’t want to see it!!”
“SILENCE!!” Lysandre yelled as his Gyarados roared, but my two Pokemon didn’t flinch “I respected you...And I thought on you to lead at my side my new world, but it looks that I have to destroy you if I want to continue with my plans”
I started to feel a calm wave of energy that I quickly recognized. Xerneas was near, but before I could do something, I heard Sycamore calling me and then, he ran to approach me. In that moment, Lysandre ordered his Gyarados to attack us with Hyper Beam and I didn’t think too long; I pushed Sycamore away, and I ended recieving the attack and then, everything turned black as Augustine called my name before I passed out....
I woke up suddenly, sweating and panting a bit. I checked the hour and I cursed for myself when I saw that it was 3 o’clock in the morning. Piers was still sleeping, and I sighed in relief that he didn’t wake up with all the movement I did when I was having that freaking nightmare. With a sigh, I exited the bed and after putting my sleepers and my sleeping coat on, I exited my room and went to the garden terrace. Corviknight was sleeping on her nest, and Honchkrow on his perch, but when I sat down next to the nest, Corviknight covered me with one of her big wings. “Sorry, girl, I didn’t want to disturb your sleep” I said and then, I heard steps approaching us. It was Glaceon, who had woken up too and now was at my side, licking my hand and rubbing her fur againts my arm. “Pokemon are incredible...You know when someone has problems”
Glaceon meowed and Corviknight chirped, making me chuckle and then, Corviknight pulled me closer to her until I ended half on her nest, half on the grass of the garden. “Hey, I’m not a little Pokemon” I said and when she ruffled her feathers, I couldn’t help but chuckle cause the feathers tickled me. “Corviknight, please, I know you want to confort me but you’re a bit heavy and I have half body out of the nest”
Corviknight moved a bit to allow me to exit the nest and sat down on the soft grass, with Glaceon at my side, but Corviknight covered us with her big wing in order to keep us warm due the cold weather of the night. I cursed my mind to make me had that stupid dream. Why now? It was because I joined the Interpol again? I sighed and rubbed my eyes with a yawn when I heard my uncle approaching me. “Kiddo, do you know what time is it?” he asked sitting next to me
“Yeah...” I said with another yawn “Sorry, a stupid dream made me jump off the bed”
“Do you want to talk about that?”
“Well...I think I had the dream cause my mind remembered all the things I passed when I was in the Interpol...”
“And what was the dream about?” my uncle asked
“It was about the second time I was near dying” I said before sighing again
“Does Sycamore know about this?”
“No, I didn’t tell him about me joining the Interpol again...I need to find the proper moment...Fuck, why it couldn’t be another way to deal with the furtives? Piers was very worried and he’s still worried about me taking again those dangers...And Sycamore...He was broken inside cause he didn’t know if I was going to make it...Piers was broken inside when I was dealing with that pneumonia; I don’t want to think on how broken he would be if instead of a pneumonia, I had to deal with deadly wounds...”
“Is understable...But let me tell you something, Raikichi” uncle Kabu said “Maybe you’re again with the Interpol, but this time, you’re not alone. In the past, you used to be alone, but this time, we will be with you”
“Thanks, uncle” I said with a soft smile and he ruffled my hair
“That’s my niece” he said with a chuckle “You should return to bed before Piers notices that you aren’t there”
“True” I said with a chuckle as I stood up “Good night, uncle”
“Good night, kiddo”
I entered inside and went to my room, followed by Glaceon, who jumped on the bed and curled after yawning. I removed my sleepers and my sleeping coat and slipped under the covers, only to get embraced by Piers when he felt me lying down next to him. “You’re cold...” he said clinging more and cuddling more next to me.
“Sorry, I had a bad dream and I went to the garden to calm myself down...I didn’t want to wake you up”
“Wanna talk about it?” Piers mumbled, still sleepy as I sighed soflty on his neck, my hands on his chest and my legs tangle with his.
“Not now...Let’s say that I’m still assimilating that I’m again in the Interpol...” I replied with a yawn “Good night, my love...”
“Good night, babe...”

Another week passed and the day of my official match againts Cynthia arrived. The Sinnoh Champion arrived a day before the match and I offered her to guide her through Galar, but she wanted to explore by the own and after many hours without knowing anything of her, we went to search her and we find her exploring ancient ruins in the Wild Area. She was also an historian, like me, and she liked to go by her own, so when she asked me about the different cultural places that were in Galar, I told her and she went to discover them by herself.
So the day of the match arrived and it was early morning when I decided to wake up since Cynthia wanted to have breakfast with me. So there I was, haf asleep, taking a shower at 5 o’clock of the morning. “Damn, Cynthia, why you have to make me get up this early...” I mumbled to myself as I exited the bathtub in order to get dried and dressed. Once I got dried and dressed, and my hair into a ponytail, I exited the bathtub while I put my glasses on before putting my accesories on as well.
“Kiddo, you know what time is it?” uncle Kabu asked when he saw me entering the living room
“I know, I know” I said with a sigh “Cynthia wanted to have breakfast with me and since she wanted to have it early, I had to wake up early”
“And Piers?”
“He wanted to come with me” I replied and then, I chuckled when I heard my fiancée exiting the room in order to go to the bathroom to take a bath while I checked my notifications and after some minutes, Piers was also ready “Morning, babe”
“Remember to tell your friend Cynthia that some people want to sleep more” he said with a yawn as we exited the house, with Glaceon at my side “Where are we going to have breakfast?”
“Hammerlock” I said as we took a Flying Taxi that would take us to Hammerlock “Since the match is today and is in Hammerlock...”
“Alright...” Piers said with a yawn “And Sycamore?”
“He’s still sleeping” I replied “He will join for us, before the match”
Piers nodded and then, he leant his head on my shoulder, making me giggle a bit. The travel to Hammerlocke didn’t take us a lot, so in less than thirty minutes, we arrived at Hammerlocke. We exited the Flying Taxi and after stretching a bit, we went to the meeting place where we agreed to meet Cynthia. I texted her telling her we’d arrived, and then, we sat down on a bench. The weather was cold, but it wasn’t cold like other days, and lucky for us, it wasn’t snowing.
“So, this Cynthia, when did you meet her?” Piers asked as he embraced me
“During my firts journey through Sinnoh, when I was visiting Celestic Town” I said “We met in the cave that had ancient insctiptions abaout the Legendary Pokemon our legends talk about”
“I see...” my fiancée said and then, he turned his head on the direction that Glaceon pointed. A tall woman with blond long hair and black outfit was walking towards us. It was Cynthia. “I suppouse she’s Cynthia, right?”
I nodded and we stood up in order to greet Cynthia. “Raikichi, I hope you aren’t mad with me for asking you to have breakfast at this hour” she said
“Don’t worry” I said “Oh, I want to present you Piers”
“So this is the famous Piers” she said smiling “Is an honor to meet the first Dark type Gym Leader”
“Thanks, I guess” Piers replied a bit shy
“Aw, don’t be shy” Cynthia said with a chuckle, making both me and Piers blush “Well, let’s have breakfast!”
Piers sighed a bit in relief and I couldn’t help but squeeze his hand gently while we followed Cynthia. She guided us to a coffee shop near the Stadium, and since the weather was cold outside, we entered inside. Once there, we removed our jackets and took a seat on the table Cynthia booked for us. Glaceon yawned and started to lick her fur while we waited for the waiter. Piers and me asked for some hot chocolate with pancakes and for our surprise, Cynthia asked for some ice cream with her breakfast. “Ice cream?” Piers asked confused while the waiter also took note of some food for Glaceon.
“I love ice cream” Cynthia said
“I can confirm that” I replied “She loves ice cream. A LOT”
“Oh, c’mon, don’t be like that”
“Cynthia, I remember the day when you spent near an hour trying to choose an ice cream flavour”
“Okay, point taken” she said laughing “So, about the wedding, tell me. Have you planned some things?”
“Yeah, we decided what wedding suits we’re going to wear and we spoke with our friend Augustine about some wedding details” I said “But we have more things to think about it”
“Wait, Augustine? Augustine Sycamore?” Cynthia asked and when I nodded, she chuckled “I would never thought on meeting professor Sycamore here in Galar. You know he was one of the best students professor Rowan had, don’t you?”
“Yes, and it was professor Rowan’s research about Pokemon evolution the thing that made Augustine to move to Kalos and study the Mega Evolution phenomenom” I replied and then, I noticed that she was looking at me with a lil mischievus gaze “W-What? Why are you looking at me like that? Is because I call him by his first name?”
“Kind of” she said “Sycamore is someone known by the fact he never allows anyone to call him by his first name; only people he really trusts are allowed to call him Augustine”
“Well, it’s normal. When he founded his lab in Kalos, a lot of people understimated him for being a young professor, and some of them used to bully him making jokes using his name together with bad words. Even notable researches didn’t call him professor Sycamore” I said, remembering when Augustine told me the reason of not allowing anyone to call him by his name “For years he felt ashamed due the lack of respect, even if he was doing great progress with his research. Those people rejected to refeer to him as Professor Sycamore, saying that he was a kid craving for attention”
“Really? They really did that?” Piers asked, a bit of anger on his voice
I nodded and Piers sighed “That fault of respect made him not to have enough trust on himself to show people that he was a good professor, but when he was going to give up, professor Rowan called him and made him to gain the enough courage to shut those people’s mouths when he showed them his progress, and when they started to treat him with respect and refeering him as Professor Sycamore, he recovered all the trust he had...But since that day, he only allowed people he really trusted to call him by his name. Now he has left that hard part of his past behind, but he’s still keeping the thing of not allowing people he doesn’t trust to call him by his name”
“I see...And I see that he trusts in you a lot, right?”
“Well, we’re friends afterall” I said and Piers nodded
Then, our breakfast arrived at least. While we ate it, we talked about more topics, including if I was going to have more official matches, but I said that this one was going to be the last one cause I wanted to have more time for me and because the Gym Challenge was near its end.
After having breakfast, Cynthia decided to go by her own to visit different places of Hammerlocke while Piers and me decided yo go to Mototoske to pick Sycamore cause we wanted to train before my match and Sycamore wanted to see us training. Once we arrived at Mototoske, we went to pick Sycamore and together, we went to my uncle’s Gym after he told us we could use it to train.
“Still sleepy, Augustine?” I asked him with a bit of teasing as we went to the battle arena
“A bit” he replied with a soft yawn as Piers and me took positions “Wait, Cynthia’s ace Pokemon is a Garchomp, right?”
“Yeah, and I’m sure she can Mega Evolve her Garchomp” I said
“Then, why you don’t train with Piers and me at the same time?”
“That sounds good” Piers said and after kissing me, he called his Obstagoon while Augustine called his Garchomp. We started the training, Glaceon managing to dodge the attacks from both Obstagoon and Garchomp. In the middle of the training, Augustine made his Garchomp mega evolve, and despite of facing a mega evolved Pokemon and Obstagoon, Glaceon showed that she was able to deal with the two of them.
Near lunch time, we decided to finish the training. Garchomp returned to normal, and both Piers and Sycamore called their Pokemon back to their Pokeballs after giving them some Sitrus Berries. Glaceon ate her Berry before stretching and then, we went out of the Stadium in order to book a table on a restaurant near my uncle’s house. While we walked to the restaurant, I recieved a message. My Rotom Phone flew to my hands and when I checked the message, a groaned the low enough to not be heared by Piers and Sycamore, but my fiancée noticed that I stopped walking while I read the message, so he turned and approached me.
“Babe?” Piers asked gently “Is something wrong?”
“Eh? No, no. Don’t worry. I was checking something” I said and we approached Sycamore, who was also worried “Really, don’t worry”
“Sure?”
“Yes, is nothing serious” I replied and when both my fiancée and Sycamore shared a worried look before looking at me I sighed “Really, nothing serious. Now let’s go. I’m really hungry”
Piers nodded and Sycamore sighed softly as we went to the restaurant. Once there, the waiter guided us to our table. We removed our jackets and after putting them on the backchairs, we sat down on the chairs. We waited a bit until another waiter came to take note of the food we asked for and then, they brought us some fresh water. The food arrived minutes later, and as we had lunch, we talked about the strategy I would use againts Cynthia, having in mind all the training I did together with Piers and Augustine.
After the meal, we decided to go for a walk now that the weather was giving us a break. I needed to get my mind in order since in few hours I woould be battling Cynthia, and a walk was the best option, so there we were, Piers and me holding hands while Sycamore told us about some of the discoveries that he made between Mega Evolution and Dynamax and Gigantamax. Augustine sometimes was like a child with new toys when we talked about new discoveries, but it was part of him, getting excited when he discovered something new, but who I was to judge him? Piers sometimes said that I was like a child with something new when I made a new discovery. With a smile on my face and after stealing a kiss from Piers’ lips, we continued our walk.

Night arrived and in Hammerlocke Gym, everyone was really hyped about the match. I was in the changing rooms, putting my World Champion cape over me, but I could hear the people screaming of excitment. Glaceon tilted her head and then, she rubbed her soft fur onto my bare leg with a purr. “Don’t worry, girl” I said once I put the cape over my shoulders “We’ll win this”. Glaceon meowed and together, we exited the changing rooms, heading to the battle arena, where Cynthia was waiting for us.
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this battle for the World Title!” the referee started to say “Today will be watchers of the last battle for the World Title during the Gym Challenge of this year, and I’m sure this battle will be great!! Now, let me present you the two opponents!! Both are from Sinnoh, but one of them is the World Champion and the other one is the Sinnoh League Champion, and I’m sure she will do everything to get the World Title, so give them a big applause, cause here are Raikichi and Cynthia!!”
Once in the battle arena, I removed my cape, ignoring the cold breeze that made my skin have some goosebumps. Then, Cynthia called her Garchomp out of her Pokeball and of course and as I suspected, she had a Garchompite on a necklace around her neck. “This is going to be interesting” I murmured to myself
“Remember. this battle will be one versus one, and when one of the Pokemon of one of the opponents is out of combat, the battle will be over” the referee said “Now, who will win this battle? Will Cynthia take the World Title away from Raikichi or will Raikichi keep the title with her? Let’s see it now and let’s the battle begin!!!”
“Garchomp, use Brick Break!!”
“Glaceon, dodge it!!”
Garchomp was fast, but Glaceon was even faster, so she dodged Brick Break easily, taking Garchomp by surpsrise. Both Pokemon shared a challenging glare, telling each other that they would give everything in this battle. “Glaceon, use Ice Beam!!”
Of course, Cynthia’s Pokemon dodged it, but my goal wasn’t hitting Garchomp with it. “Glaceon’s accuracy is a bit bad, isn’t it?” Cynthia said
“I’m not sure about it” I replied and when she looked to the battlefield, she gasped “I told my Glaceon to use Ice Beam to create the perfect terrain for us. Now, Glaceon, use Hail at max power!!”
Hail covered all the battlefield, with dark clouds upon us. Also, Garchomp was suffering the indirect damage of the move, and I smirked when I saw her trying to protect herself with her arms. Glaceon’s Snow Cloak activated thanks to the Hail, and Cynthia knew that she was in problems now. “Let’s keep the preassure on” I said “Glaceon, use Triple Axel!!”
One, two, and three hits. Glaceon hitted Garchomp with Triple Axel three times, making the Match Pokemon suffering a lot of damage. “C’mon Garchomp, use Flamethrower!” Cynthia said and Glaceon moved quickly, but she ended recieving damage from Flamethrower. Garchomp threw another Flamethrower, but this time, Glaceon dodge it.
“Clever” I said “Using a move like that when Glaceon was near enough that she couldn’t dodge it completly, but we are a box full of surprises. Glaceon, Healing Bell on you!!”
Glaceon used Healing Bell, healing herself and removing the damage she recieved from Flamethrower. “Now, Double Team at the same time you use Quick Attack!!”

“In other conditions I should go, but since today Cynthia leaves Galar, is my duty as World Champion to say goodbye to her, so Piers agreed to go to Circhester”
“I see..Then, if you don’t mind, I can go with you, Piers” Sycamore said
“That sounds good” my fiancée said smiling
We finished the breakfast and after getting refreshed and dressed, we left the room. We took the elevator and once we reached the recepction, I explained I had an accident in the bathroom and despite of the receptionist insisting that I didn’t have to pay the mirror, I gave them the money cause it was my fault that the mirror was broken. They accepted the money and after saying sorry again, we left the hotel.
“If you need something, call me, ‘kay?” Piers said hugging me before kissing me
“I will, babe, don’t worry”
“And if something happens...”
“Piers”
“Yes, babe?”
“I’m going to be okay, don’t worry”
“But...”
“I’m only going to say goodbye to Cynthia, just that” I said with a soft chuckle “Both you and Augustine should go. I’m sure Gordie and Melony are waiting for you”
“Okay...I love you, Raikichi” he said
“I love you too, Piers”
Piers smiled and went with Sycamore to take a Flying Taxi that would take them to Circhester, while I made my way to Mototoske Airport followed by Glaceon. Once I was there, I checked the phone. I arrived a bit earlier, but I didn’t mind waiting for Cynthia there. I sat down on one of the branches inside the airport, and Glaceon jumped onto my lap with a purr. I smiled softly and I stroked her fur, giving thanks that nobody noticed us. That was good; the last thing I wanted was to be surrounded by press.
“Hey, Raikichi” someone said and when I turned my head, I smiled. It was Cynthia
“Morning” I said, standing up once Glaceon jumped to the floor
“What happened?”
Fuck, she saw my wounded hand. “Oh, this? Just an accident”
“An accident?” Cynthia asked rising an eyebrow but she quickly changed the topic “Anyways, before I go back to Sinnoh, I want to give this to you” she added giving me a package “C’mon, open it”
I opened the packaged and I had to contain my tears when I saw what was inside. It was my pendant with Arceus symbol with three small crystals that represented Palkia, Dialga and Giratina; the pendant my maternal grandmother gave to me when I started my journey, not only as Pokemon trainer and Coordinator, but also as an historian.
“H-How...How did you...I lost it battling Cyrus before trying to stop him in the Distorsion World...How did you recover it?”
“With some help, but I managed to recover it” she said smiling “And I wanted to give it to you before I return to Sinnoh”
“Cynthia...I...Thank you so much...”
“Well, Saturn helped as well”
“Wait, Saturn?” I said. Sarturn used to be Cyrus’ second in command when Team Galactic was still up, and I had to say it but during the time I was infiltrated in their ranks as Cassiopea, Saturn treated me better than some veteran agents from the Interpol, and that was saying a lot. In fact, from the three commanders that Cyrus had, Saturn was the only one that didn’t have any idea of Cyrus’ true plans, and since he also helped me during the battle againts Team Galatic leader, I spoke in Saturn’s defense. The last thing I knew of him was that he opened a coffee shop with books so people could read books while they had their drinks, and that the name he put to his coffee shop was ‘Cassiopea’s Grace’. I smiled and nodded as I allowed Cynthia to put the necklace around my neck “Thank you so much, Cynthia...Also, tell Saturn that I’m grateful with him for this. I should call him one of these days”
“Be sure that I’ll talk with him” Cynthia said with a smile before hugging me “Take care, Raikichi. Don’t let anyone to break you down.”
“I won’t allow that”
“And be sure that I will be here for your wedding” she added before taking her things “Well, I have to go. See you soon, my dear friend”
“Good bye, Cynthia. Have a nice trip back to Sinnoh” I said with a smile
Cynthia smiled as well and went to take the plane that would take her back to Sinnoh. Then, I exited the airport followed by Glaceon. I checked my Rotom Phone to see if Piers had send me a message, but I didn’t get new messages, so I suppoused he was still with Sycamore, Gordie and Melony in Circhester. After putting my mind in order, I decided tot ake a Flying Taxi to Hammerlocke. I needed some distraction, I needed to relax myself, to find something that could help me with the chaos that was in my mind. Something or someone. Once I entered the cabin with Glaceon and after telling the driver that I wanted to go to Hammerlocke, I started to think what I was going to do there while the Flying Taxi flew to the city of great history. The most sure thing was that Raihan would be training since he was going to recieve the challengers soon, but he was a good friend, and sometimes, he acted like a brother for me, and I needed someone to listen to what was going on my mind. I needed advise, and courage too.
After more than thirty minutes, the Flying Taxi arrived at Hammerlocke. Glaceon and me exited the cabin and went to the Hammerlocke Stadium. There, I greeted the recepcionist, who told me to wait in the waiting room, but when I was going there, Aria, one of Raihan’s Gym Trainers, arrived.
“Oh, Raikichi, we didn’t know you were going to come here” she said
“Yeah, I think I should have told you that I was going to come...Is Raihan busy right now?”
“Well, he’s training cause soon he will be recieving the challengers” Aria said and then, she looked at me “But I can tell him you’re here, so he can also take a break before training again. Wait here”
I nodded as Aria went to find Raihan. I sat down on one of the chairs, and Glaceon sat down next my feet, in alert and on guard. The wounded hand was hurting a bit, but I could deal with that pain. I sighed as I put in order the things I wanted to speak with Raihan while I waited, and after few minutes, Aria returned followed by Raihan. I stood up and smiled softly. “Hi, Raihan. Ahm...Sorry for not telling you I was going to come here, I didn’t want to disturb your training but...” I said, trying to explain myself
“Don’t worry, Raikichi” he said, interrupting me with a soft smile. “Aria, tell the others that I will take a long break. You can train by your own while I’m with Raikichi” he added and when Aria left the place, he looked at me “C’mon, we’ll take something warm to drink and we’ll go to one of my favorite spots in the city”
“Raihan?”
“Yes?”
“Thanks...I mean, I...”
“Don’t worry” Raihan said smiling and guiding me to get some warm drinks and once we got them, we went to the Vault, but not inside. He sat down on a bench next to the entrance, and I followed him. Glaceon, of course, was always at my side, sitting next to me in order to lick her fur. “Here, take this” he said giving me a warm cup of capuccino with hot cocoa and a bit of cream on the top with some chocolate toppings.
“Thank you...” I said as I gave a sip to my warm drink, enjoying the delicious taste of it. Then, I looked up and smiled softly. Raihan was right; the sights from the the Vault’s place were incredible.
“C’mon, tell me. I’m all ears”
I let out a big sigh before loosing my smile. “Turn off your Rotom Phone and make sure we aren’t being spied”
Raihan looked at me but instead of saying something, he nodded. He send a message to his trainers to avoid anyone to go to the Vault and after that, he turned his Rotom Phone off and for more security, he called his Flygon and his Duraludon to watch over the place. “Well, now we are safe. No one is listening” Raihan said
I nodded and sighed again. “I’m...scared. Listen, seeing that the situation with the furtives made me return with the Interpol, so now I’m with them again...And well, when I punched this morning a mirror and Piers came to help me, I rejected his help at first and then...I’m scared...Scared of returning to how I used to be in the past, when I had to be alone...I’m also afraid of loosing Piers...”
“Why do you think that? Piers loves you, Raikichi”
“I know but...Since I returned to the Interpol, I can’t stop thinking on that...On Piers leaving me cause I’m not the brave enough to protect him or our friends...Or to see him in danger...I...”
“Listen to me, Raikichi” Raihan said, putting both cups apart in order to grab me gently by my shoulders “And look at me” At first I kept looking down, but I ended looking at him “Piers won’t leave you. Piers won’t stop loving you, cause he really cares about you. He really loves you, Raikichi, and if you need help, be sure he will be there for you”
“Then why I have all these thoughts in my mind?” I said getting myself free from his grip and leaning on the stone, my arms crossed as the breeze played with my hair.
“Because you have fear of being alone”
When he said that, I turned and looked at him. Both me and Raihan stood in our places without moving until I felt tears pouring from my eyes. I quickly wipped them again, but then, Raihan approached me and hugged me gently before we sat down again. “Piers told me a bit of what happened to you when you used to work with the Interpol in the past, and for how you reacted this morning according what you’ve told me...You’re afraid of being alone again” Raihan said “Nobody should pass through the same things as you, Raikichi, and I’m still trying to understand why those damn agents wanted you to do things alone and to be alone...But believe me when I say that Piers won’t leave you. He won’t do that. I understand that those thoights you have is because you don’t want to experience the same again”
“Raihan...”
“Tell Piers about how do you feel. Tell him about your fears. He’s the man who you are going to marry with, so open yourself more and tell how are you feeling with all those feelings that are hunting you” Raihan said and then, he smiled “And don’t worry, everything will be fine”
I took a deep breath and then, I nodded, drinking my warm-well, now it was a bit colder and once the cup was empty, Raihan took it to throw it to the trash can once we got down of the place where we were. “Thanks...I really needed to explain myself and I’m grateful with you for helping me to have my ideas more clear”
“Well, we’re friends, and I don’t like to see my friends suffering, you know” Raihan said smiling again as we took the elevator to go to the main floor “Well, I have to go back to my training”
“True...Sorry for interrupting your training” I said, a bit embarrased
“Hey, I don’t care about that. You needed help and I wanted to help, so there’s no need of saying sorry” he said
“Yeah...Thanks for everything, Raihan”
“Your welcome, Raikichi” the Dragon type Gym Leader said, smiling and showing slightly his fangs “So, what’re you going to do now?”
“I think I’m going to fly on Corviknight before going to meet Piers and Sycamore” I replied as I called Corviknight out of her Pokeball, and then, I mounted on her, followed by Glaceon “I wish you luck with your trainings, Raihan”
“Thanks, and take care”
I nodded and then, I told Corviknight to raise up and fly. We left Hammerlocke without thinking on a place to return. I still needed some more time for me to put my ideas in order before returning to Mototoske, and when we were flying over the Wild Area, I spotted a Gyarados and an Inteleon battling near the water and then, their trainer. I told Corviknight to land next to the Pokemon and when Glaceon and me got down of the Raven Pokemon, I got tacklehugged by Gyarados.
“O-Okay, I missed you to but...I need...”
“Gyarados, don’t do that” someone said and Gyarados let me free, allowing me to take a deep breath “Raikichi? Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine” I said and then, I smiled “Hi, Iwalani”
Iwalani was my cousin. I grew up without any more relatives of my age, so when during my training with the Interpol in Hoenn I discovered that in fact I had another aunt by maternal line, that was my mother and uncle Juan’s sister, and that I also have a cousin, I got shocked at first but then, I was happy, cause despite of she being three years younger than me, I finally met a relative more less of my age. Of course, the most shcoking thing wa sknowing that her father was Archie, the leader of Team Aqua, but for the time I met them, Team Aqua had changed since Archie found out that to make Pokemon happy, he didn’t need Kyogre, so he stopped searching the legendary Pokemon after being near of making it destroying Sotoopolis with Groudon, and after that, he made Team Aqua collaborate with the Interpol. In my case, Lance took me there to ask Team Aqua for help during my infiltration training, and Archie showed to be a very good teacher, and a very good father and uncle-yeah, I still remembered those big hugs he gave to me when he discovered that he had a niece. After the training, we parted ways, but Iwalani showed herself in Sinnoh, and then, few months after my arrival at Galar, she arrived as well, and despite of being by her own all this time, she managed to make new friends.
“So, what brings you here, cousin?” Iwalani said as we watched our Pokemon playing together
“I needed to put my ideas in order”
“And what happened to your hand?”
“I punched a mirror too hard”
“You what?!”
“I punched a mirror” I repeated
“You used to do that when you got angry or frustrated with the Interpol...What happened this time?” she asked
I sighed and I told her what happened this morning, how I reacted with Piers and also with Sycamore, and my talk with Raihan. Iwalani sighed but smiled softly. After I ended telling her everything, she put a hand on my shoulder. “Is normal that you acted like that...But you should have told your fiancée...”
“I know but...I have these feelings and...I’m scared, Iwalani”
“I know, Raikichi, but since you returned this time with the Interpol, you said you were going to be part of the boss group, right? Then, make those fools to shut their mouths” my cousin said standing up “For Arceus shake, you’re the World Champion, you are over them. You’re also the Queen, right?” she said and I nodded “Then show them what happens when they mess with the Queen!”
“I don’t know that doing the same I did with the enemies we chased is going to be a good idea”
“Of course it will be! If they don’t want to learn to respect you bt the good ways, they will learn to respect you by the bad ways. You’re the strongest trainer I’ve ever met, and you have more courage than some of those fucking agents that claim to be the bravest of the Interpol. I’m sure that if they had to battle againts someone that is using a legendary Pokemon, most of them would be so scared that wold run away as the cowards they are!”
“Maybe you’re right...But you are acting like your father right now” I said rising an eyebrow
“C’mon, even your father would tell you the same” Iwalani said “You’re Raikichi Yukigami. You are the World Champion. You are the Queen! Is time to show those cowards that no one messes with you without paying the consequences!”
I looked at my cousin, and then, I chuckled and stood up. She was right. Since I joined the Interpol, I allowed those thoughts and feelings return, but first, I needed to deal with the ones that were disturbing me since this morning, and for that, I needed to return to Mototoske and talk with Piers. Part of me was still afraid due those fucking thoughts but I had to confront those thoughts. It was in that moment when I remembered that I didn’t turn on my Rotom Phone, and I gasped when I checked it and saw multiple calls from Piers. “Fuck” I said as I called Glaceon and Corviknight “I have to return to Mototoske. Piers has been calling me and I didn’t remember to turn on my phone, so I imagine he’s very worried right now”
“Oh, then go. I have also to go back to Postwick. Leon’s parents are waiting for me and I don’t want to make them wait too much”
Oh, it was true. Leon and Iwalani started a relationship after Piers and me started to date, but Iwalani and Leon didn’t confess their love for each other yet. Despite of that, and knowing that Iwalani didn’t have a place to stay, Leon talked with his parents and they were agreed and happy of allowing Iwalani to stay with them. My uncle, well, our uncle Kabu still distrusted her, and when he knew she was here months later my arrival, he refused to let her stay with us, and I could understand why he distrusted her, but also, he should needed to start trusting Iwalani, but it would take time. For all these years, the only niece he had apart of my mother, my uncle Juan and my aunt Kimiko, was me, and knowing after several years that Kimiko had a daughter with Archie got my uncle Kabu more shocked than me when I met Iwalani for the first time. He felt betrayed by his own niece Kimiko for hiding her daughter, but also, he also felt betrayed by the fact that she had Iwalani with the man who let free Kyogre and near destroyed Hoenn with Groudon, and to add more things, she had her with Archie when he was still with those plans of locating Kyogre in order to control and use it for his evil plans. With a sigh, I mounted on Corviknight, followed by Glaceon.
“Have a nice flight back home” Iwalani said “And don’t worry about Kabu. I know you want him to change his opinion about me, but let’s give him the time he needs for that. I don’t blame him for not trusting me; in fact, he is on his right to not trust me since I’m a former member of Team Aqua and the things with my father and my mother”
“I know, but...”
“Don’t worry about that, ‘kay?” sha said and I nodded “Well, see you soon then”
I nodded and after saying goodbye to my cousin, Corviknight flew back to Mototoske. The flight didn’t take us too much time, and when the sun was started to set, we arrived to Mototoske. Glaceon and me got down of Corviknight and after calling Corviknight back to her Pokeball, I went to meet Piers and Sycamore, followed by my loyal Glaceon, but when I spotted Piers and he spotted me, he ran approaching me and I found myself embraced between his arms on a very tight hug.
“Raikichi, I was so worried” he said when he let me go before hugging me again, this time gently, and then, he peppered my face with kisses “You didn’t reply my calls and messages and I was starting to think that something bad happened to you...I’m so glad you’re safe...”
“Hey, I’m okay...I’m sorry, after saying goodbye to Cynthia I went to Hammerlocke to speak with Raihan and then I went by my own and met Iwalani in the Wild Area before realizing what time was...Sorry for worrying you, darling” I said as he leant his forehead againts mine before letting Sycamore hug me as well. His hug was softer but also, a bit tight. “Sorry for worrying the both of you...I needed some time for me...”
“We understand, Raikichi” Sycamore said “And what about your hand?”
True. I moved the hand and hissed a little bit after noticing that it was hurting a bit, but I didn’t notice it until now. “It hurts a little but, but I didn’t notice it was hurting before...Maybe it was cause I was so distracted in other things that I didn’t realize about the pain”
Piers and Sycamore smiled softly and then, Piers took my wounded hand and kissed it gently, making me blush. “Listen, why you don’t go back home? I’m sure Raikichi needs to rest and both of you need to talk about things” Sycamore said
“Augustine...At least, let us walk with you to the hotel” I said
“Don’t worry, Raikichi” Sycamore replied with a chuckle as he called his Garchomp out of her Pokeball “Garchomp will be with me all the way back to the hotel. I have still some more days to stay here before returning to Kalos. Really, go home and rest.”
“Thanks, Augustine” both me and Piers said and after saying goodbye to him, we went back to my uncle’s house while Sycamore went back to the hotel. “I’m sorry, Piers”
“Sorry for what?” he asked as we kept walking, holding hands
“For worrying you and...”
“We can talk about that once we’re home, babe” my fiancée said with a soft smile
I nodded and together, we walked back to my uncle’s house. During the walk, Piers told about what he and Sycamore did on Circhester, that was choosing some wedding decorations and also, to show Piers some ideas Melony and Gordie had for more wedding things for the big day.
We arived and before I could use the keys to open the door, my uncle opened it. “I was waiting for you both” he said as we entered and then, he closed the door while Glaceon went to the living room as Piers and me removed our coats. “Raikichi, can we talk?”
“Sure, uncle”
“Then I’m going to prepare you a relaxing bath” Piers said and both me and my uncle nodded
Uncle Kabu took me to the sofa and we sat down, and then, he took my wounded hand gently and removed the bandages to see the wounds, ignoring me telling him not to do that. It was in that moment when I froze, and my uncle noticed it. “Kiddo?” he asked and then, I blinked twice
“Sorry...Is...” I tried to say but sighed as I let out soft sobs “Why is this happening? Why I can’t get ride of this?”
“Hey, Raikichi...” my uncle said stroking my back gently “Is not easy to get ride of all the things that happened to you...Is not easy to forget those years, the things you did or the way you were...”
“But I don’t want to feel the same again! I’m scared of being alone!” I said, crying as I wipped my tears away “I...When I punched that mirror and Piers came to help and I told him not to help me...And all of those things came back to my mind after I decided to join the Interpol again...I hate it...I hate it...I don’t want to be alone again....I don’t want Piers to...I’m scared of ending alone...I...”
“C’mon here, kiddo...” uncle Kabu said hugging me “You’re not alone, Raikichi. We won’t allow you to be alone again...”
“I just want to get ride of those thoughts...”
“And you will...But it takes time, kiddo...”
“I know...” I said with a sigh before standing up “Thanks, uncle...I’m...I’m going to take that bath...”
“And I’ll do a proper meal. Go and relax, kiddo”
I nodded and went to the bathroom with Glaceon, only to be hugged by Piers when I entered after closing the door behind me. Was he crying? Yeah, he was, but also, I was crying as well. “Piers...I’m...” I tried to say but when Piers shooked his head gently and started to stroke my back and hair, I couldn’t help but cry and let all those tears away. Moments before I was trying to control it but now, in my fiancée’s arms, I couldn’t. “I’m so sorry, Piers...I should have trusted you more and not trying to reject your help like that...I’m scared, Piers, I’m scared of seeing you leaving me cause I’m not the enough brave or strong to protect everyone...Of being alone again with all the problems and...I’m also scared of not being able to make it if I have to deal with the danger and...”
The sobs avoided me to keep talking properly, and I couldn’t help but cough when I chocked with my sobs as I cried. Piers held me strong, but also, with tender. Words weren’t needed in that moment; he knew it, so he held me againts him as I kept crying until I started to feel exhausted. Slowly, I calmed down, trying to control the small hiccups I got after crying loudly.
“Better?” he asked gently as he stroked my face gently
“Yeah...” I replied softly as I removed my glasses in order to rub my eyes, and then, he hugged me again before kissing me gently “Piers...I’m so sorry...You’re the man I love, the one who has my heart and love...And I feel so stupid for not trusting you more and...I mean...”
“It’s okay, my love” Piers said smiling softly “I’m not going to blame you for that, babe...But I’m going to ask you something”
“Uh?”
“Let me help you. Let me help yo deal with the things that worry you. Let me help you to deal with that mark that those years in the Interpol left on you...Is so hard to see you suffering like that...Is so hard to see you thinking on those years...Let me be at your side and help you with this” he said “You’re not alone anymore, Raikichi. I will make sure that you won’t be alone anymore.”
“Piers...Don’t tell me that you heard the talk I had with my uncle...” I said and when he nodded, I sighed “Since I decided to return to the Interpol, I’ve been fighting to keep my trust in myself up but...When I woke up this morning, the words of those agents that used to understimated me cause I was young, ignoring that I was the World Champion, appeared in my mind again and without thinking, I punched the mirror, begging for those thoughts and memories to go away...I should have told you this before but...”
“Hey, it’s okay” Piers replied “You didn’t want to tell us at first cause you had your reasons, and I didn’t want to insist...But I’m glad you managed to tell me...”
“Yeah...But I thought you would be a bit upset cause I didn’t trust you...”
“Oh, my silly, dearly, lovely Queen, do you see that I’m upset?” he said smiling softly and when I shooked my head, he chuckled a bit “How in this world I could be upset with you, my love? I knew that you were having trouble, but I told you to take your time to tell me cause I understood that you needed time to put your mind in order, so please, don’t think I’m upset cause I’m not upset. And of course, I won’t leave you. I will be at your side”
“Even if I face danger?” I asked and when he nodded, I got a bit tense before relaxing “I don’t want to...”
“If we face danger together, we’ll be able to be successful againts it, more than if you face it alone. And remember that we have also our friends”
I nodded and Piers kissed me before hugging me and then, he helped me to get ride of my clothes, and once he got naked as well, we entered in the bathtub. Glaceon was still there, curled on the soft carpet that was in the floor, and when Piers and me were in the bathtub, covered by the warm water and the soft foam of the bath bomb, Glaceon approached us, sitting next to the bathtub.
“Piers?”
“Yeah?”
“Don’t tell Sycamore about this...I want to tell him”
“Sure, babe”
I smiled as I allowed Piers to give me a massage as Glaceon used Healing Bell. Slowly, I noticed that the wounds of my hand started to heal and then, when I looked at my hand, I looked at it with surprise cause I didn’t get any scars for those wounds. “Thanks, girl” I said and Glaceon meowed happy as she kept using Healing Bell to make sure the wounds of my hand were completly healed.
After the bath and after getting my hand healed, we got dried and dressed with our sleeping clothes. We exited the bathroom and went to the kitchen to help my uncle with the dinner, but by the time we went to help him, he was finishing preparing the desserts. “Did the bath relax you?” uncle Kabu asked as we had dinner
“Yeah, and thanks to Glaceon, the wounds of my hand are healed and gone. And look, no scars on my hand”
“That’s good, kiddo”
Both me and Piers chuckled and we spent the rest of the meal talking with my uncle about the wedding, but also, about the Gym Challenge. After having dinner, I started to feel my eyelids a bit heavier, so I went to my room followed by Glaceon. In the room, Sango, my Obstagoon, was sleeping pacefully with Piers’ Obstagoon. I smiled as I removed my glasses and slipped under the covers of my bed. Glaceon jumped onto the bed and curled at my feet just in time, cause minutes later, Piers entered in my room, and after closing the door behind him and removing his ponytail, he laid down next to me, embracing me. I turned to face him and I smiled as I closed my eyes, my hands on his chest.
“Tomorrow will be a better day” he said
“Yeah...” I said with a yawn
“Sleep well, my Queen, I love you”
“I love you too, my King...” I said and then, I fell asleep.

Pokemon Quartz
I have a confession to make.
I fucking love Pokemon Quartz.
Okay, context. Pokemon Quartz is an infamous Romhack of Pokemon Ruby, finished in 2006 by a young Spanish developer going by Baro. It was possibly the first completed romhack that completely replaced the entire set of the available 386 Pokemon with a set of newly designed Fakemon, and while lots of the replacements are pretty obvious analogues, there are some pretty interesting designs and the sheer effort required to do this solo as a teenager is something to behold.
(Look at Lileep, it’s a dodo now! I think its cute.)
The hack shows it age pretty well these days, with the sheer development made in GBA hacking especially in the last couple of years obviously showing it up- obviously something like Clover or Radical Red is going to make Quartz look ancient, and limitations in available tools are pretty obvious if you know where to look. The game’s region, Corna, is blatantly just Hoenn with some modified route themes, and its pretty clear that the designs for each Pokemon are limited to the replaced mon’s colour palette (as with Torido above).

Quartz is infamous for a few reasons ultimately linked to the developer’s youth. For one, the dialogue tends to be a mix of poor English and weird humour and plenty of cursing, along with some jokes that don’t really fly these days. (To Baro’s credit, the writing and English does get better as the hack progresses.) The plot is utterly nonsensical as a result of shoehorning the Electric themed Band Ambar as villains into vanilla Ruby’s story, and involving the very 00s teenage idea of CHAOS vs ORDER and the pseudophilosophical musings that go along with it. Also like some of the designs are extremely ugly, to be frank. Lots of people are aware of Babos, the Skitty replacement, but that’s only really scratching the surface- the Llamayama line (aka Numel) and Berchi line (Clamperl) are pretty awful if you ask me.

I first encountered Pokemon Quartz as part of a bootleg multi-game cartridge picked up in my time living in Kuala Lumpur. The version of the hack on that cart was either very early or just broken, since none of the doors in Golden Island or the nearby Broke Cave (Dewford Island/Granite Cave) would actually let me in and therefore I couldn’t progress especially far. (I understand there was another broken ROM running around the internet that just had legendaries and Master Balls running around the first few routes, for some reason,). My trying to find a walkthrough or a fix led me to one Let’s Play of the hack by Zorak, which I suspect considering his association with fellow early LPer Chorocojo is the reason a fair few people are aware of Quartz at all. While I absolutely wouldn’t recommend reading that LP these days- its very late 00s, enjoys a certain R-word way too much, and to his credit Zorak has a comment on the archive stating that he considers it “immature and severely unfunny!”, but it was the only way for me to consume the remainder of the game at the time, having not figured out emulators at that point. I could go on for a long time about those early Lets Plays, but I’ll save that for another day.

Okay but why do I like this game then? Well, aside from tickling my nostalgia bone something fierce, there’s a lot of cool things in the hack that make it stand out. While the lore behind the main legendary Pokemon is pretty bad and some of their designs are godawful, the Braille puzzles from Ruby have been converted into an entire original runic alphabet and is expanded to be present in the encounter events for Kaomare and Karendi (Kyogre and Jirachi). I had a lot of fun translating all of the script by hand, even if the actual text is a bit edgy. Speaking of Karendi, the game has a very JRPG style item chain sidequest to get to the encounter, which is pretty fun and something that to my recollection hasn’t been seen since. It has some little ideas in the dex that took Game Freak years to try, such as an evolving legendary (Ordkip->Tanord, replacing Latias and Latios) and the hack’s replacement for the Kanto starters having a 4th evolution (replacing the legendary beasts in the dex). The player is actually offered a second starter from the trio replacing the Johto starters late in the game at Muddy Island (Pacifidlog), which while a bit useless at that point is still something that took GF until X and Y to try. (Emerald doesn’t count imo)

I can’t really explain beyond that why I love Quartz so much, but it’s the type of attachment that doesn’t really make sense and can’t really be explained. With that in mind, please believe me when I say never play Pokemon Quartz.
Most of the Pokemon are reskins of the original mon without changing the stats or learnset, and some of the ones that are make zero sense (As an example, the Water starter gets Aeroblast of all things, but only if you overlevel it in the second stage). The 3rd Gym leader’s ace, an overleveled Groundoe (Sandslash), has 4 ground moves, so any Flying type beats it outright, except 2 of those moves are Earthquake and Fissure, so if you don’t have a bird you are S.O.L. . The 4thleader has an absurdly overpowered ace in the form of Freech, one of the few mons to be completely overhauled, being the Milotic equivalent except its Dragon/Ice with overpowering STAB moves and Speed Boost. Basically, the game balance is completely out of whack.
Instead give a look into Pokemon Ultra Quartz (I refuse to type Let’s go Blobbos more than once). Released in 2018 by the developers for the excellent if also problematic Clover, UQ fixes just about every issue with the game’s balance, expands the encounter tables to include many of the Quartz mons that were implemented but unobtainable, and re-enables missing features such as the Battle Tower, while leaving most of the rest of the Quartz experience untouched- in this sense, I’d argue it’s the superior Quartz experience. It does still have issues- the labyrinthine route and cave design is untouched, Blobbos is here but is pretty pointless, and TM availability is as shitty as Quartz (which is the same as vanilla Ruby, but still). It does also add a few events of varying quality- Blobbos is as adorable as ever if a little pointless, the endgame developer battles are neat and decent grinding, and the postgame dungeon added is pretty sick even if the secret boss is… unique? The direct 1:1 import of the Deadly Seven from the infamous Pokemon Snakewood is both unnecessary and obnoxious, so try to keep in mind its origin when suffering through that forced segment of the game.
(My final team- Dotori, Psimouse, Rubygon, Mazalon, Oceadino, Kaosune. Or, Flying/Fighting completely overhauled Cradily, Serene Grace Gardevoir, Split evolution Vibrava, Ghost/Steel Banette, Water/Flying Swampert, and Fire/Dragon Groudon.)
It’s a good game despite this, ok? Give it a shot, experience some Romhack history but not quite as shit as it was in ’06.

Hi, yes, I can’t stop thinking about a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon HLVRAI AU, take some thoughts
Tommy is a Pikachu and wants to start an Exploration Team badly. It’s been his dream for years and he finally has his own place and enough money to buy supplies and apply, all he needs is someone to start it with. The only person he can think to do it with is Benrey but it’s kinda been awhile since he’s seen him.
Tommy needs to clear his head and goes for a walk on the beach. That’s where he finds Gordon, a Cubone, washed up and unmoving. He quickly helps him out only to find out two things very quickly: Gordon has no memory other than his name and a distinct feeling that he used to be human. Which would sound impossible but... Well, Tommy’s heard legends that humans have an untapped power to them that they can’t access and anyone who can find a way to utalize that power could potentially become more powerful than any other legendary Pokémon.
Whether or not the legend is real, Tommy doesn’t know. But Gordon needs help so he takes him back to his place since Gordon has no other place to go. They become fast friends and one night, Tommy confesses his dream of forming an Exploration Team with somebody and... Well, Gordon owes the guy a lot and it’s not like he’s got anywhere else to go. Plus, Exploration Teams sound fun and maybe he can search for bits about his past. So Gordon tells him he can form one with him and Tommy’s through the roof.
First few missions go well- Gordon and Tommy are a good team. Then Gordon starts getting the feeling he’s being watched and after another successful mission, he catches someone following them and confronts them. To his surprise, Tommy knows him. Benrey, a tododile, finally introduces himself and starts showing up a lot more. Randomly, he’ll join them on missions or show up at Tommy’s house. Gordon finds him kind of off putting, especially how he looks at Gordon sometimes. Does he know something?
(Benrey does. Benrey knows all about Gordon’s secret. However, Benrey isn’t going to snitch. He’s got secrets of his own, after all, he’s really a shiny ditto who transforms into Pokémon like Tododile. Benrey used to be ‘employed’ to a dangerous Pokémon, a Pokémon who would be very interested in Gordon. Benrey has to keep a close eye on him, just in case)
On a particularly high ranked mission, Gordon, Tommy, and Benrey who’s an unofficial member of the team, run into another exploration team. A strong Breloom named Coomer and a grumpy Charmeleon named Bubby. Bubby would much rather get the mission over with but seeing as it’s a difficult one, Coomer suggests teaming up and the five of them do. They make it to the end, Bubby warms up to the group a little more and they go their separate ways.
Buttt they end up running into Bubby and Coomer a lot more. The pair are an experienced Exploration Team who’s been doing this for a long time and have seen a lot in their days. Gordon begins to think about telling them about his secret and after consulting Tommy, they agree to tell them and ask them if they’ve ever heard about a human turning into a Pokémon.
Coomer and Bubby don’t react well to the news.
Bubby gets more hostile and closed off than he was in the beginning. He sees Gordon as a threat- he gets paranoid but Gordon doesn’t understand why. Coomer on the other hand, keeps laughing and saying that’s impossible and of course he’s never heard of anything like that. Coomer shuts the conversation down quickly and the pair leave early.
Less than a week later, rumors start going around. There’s a high priced bounty on the head of whoever can find a human that’s been turned into a Pokémon. Nobody knows who placed it but people either are worried that it’s a dangerous Pokémon or they want the money, so the hunt begins.
Gordon freaks out but Tommy assures him that he’ll protect him no matter what. Gordon becomes untrusting to everyone who isn’t Tommy. Does Benrey know? Would Benrey sell him out? Was this Coomer and Bubby’s doing? It makes sense- they didn’t like the news. Gordon is deeply terrified of getting found out. Tommy knows this and begins to make backup plans in case they get caught- his family friend Sunkist the Arcanine has a cabin up on a mountain that they could hide out in until things settle down. Anything to protect his partner.
(Little does Gordon know that he’s not the only one freaking out. Bubby and Coomer didn’t tell anyone but the fact that there’s a bounty out for a human who turned into a Pokémon weighs on them too. Somewhat for Gordon but Bubby’s more worried about himself.
Bubby and Coomer kept it a secret for so long. Nobody else knew, Bubby searches high and low for clues to how he turned into a Pokémon or anything about his past but never found anything. But he fell in love with Coomer and they had fun as an Exploration Team so honestly? He wanted to live like this, he doesn’t want to go back to whatever life he had before, they were settling down and making their own life.
Then this Gordon kid came and now there’s a hunt for humans turned into Pokémon. Bubby’s worked so hard to get here, he’ll be damned if Gordon somehow ruins it for him. Bubby isn’t a snitch, but when it comes to his survival and the safety of Coomer, he’ll sell Gordon out if he has to).

God, I’m compelled to wright a full one shot of all the Galar Rivals+Ash and Gou dealing with the ghost Doggo scene in that fucking forbidden forest in the first twn minutes of the game.
and you know what? I fucking D I D. but of course I put my AM!Ash into the scene because I wanted the boy to say some pretty weird and funny dialogue
“We have to go in there... for a what now?” Ash drawled. curling his hand a bit more tight around the section of Hop’s hoodie, just to solely keep the younger teen from running off from their group.
“He’s crazed about a fuckin’ Wooloo.” Bede sneered. moving his hands behind his head and bumping his shoulder’s with Marnie. the poor girl shuffled away slightly as a tight frown creased her eyebrows.
“Shut the fuck up Bede,” the two boys and Gou replied at the same time.
“We’re not supposed to be in this forest without an adult.” Marnie nervously rung her hands together and squeaked when a distant howl rang out. she bolted from the back of the group and up towards Ash where she shoved herself under his free arm.
Pikachu grumbled before haling his claws out of Ash’s shoulder and plopping to the ground. the larger than normal electric Mouse preceded to try and slow down Hop more by driving between the poor boys feet.
“It’s fine,” Ash stated, curling his arm more around Marnie, “Even though I’m tired as fuck and I haven’t had a cup of coffee yet, I wouldn’t let anything harm you guys.”
Bede sneered, “Why would I put my life into a lethargic fuck like you?”
Ash stopped walking. Making Hop jerk dangerously back and swearv into gou who grunted and braced themselves a little to late, luckily not falling onto the woodland floor or the nearby river, and Marnie squeaking a little as Ash jerked her a little to ruffly. He turned to glare down at Bede, who had the decency to look a little ashamed at his words. “I retrace my statement lightly, if Bede want’s to get killed and eaten, then Bede can get killed and eaten.” He turned back and gently motioned the rest of the group to continue on searching.
Hop had no problem going to screeching the lost Wooloo’s name in the foggy air. Gou was slowly drifting closer to their traveling buddy the longer and deeper the group traveled into the forbidden woodland. Bede...
Bede was left gaping like a Magikarp and staring at Ash’s back before a closer, and more louder than the last, shrieking howl sent the young trainer screaming in fear before bolting after the group. “Wait for me!”
Ash slowed the groups walking a little just so Bede could catch up to them, before returning to the original pace he had set. “these woods are hiding something.” Ash mumbled, letting go of of his grip on Hop so he could help the group get over a large tree that had fallen over the path. Luckily Gou and grabbed onto the purple haired boy before he could dart forward and out of Ash’s range. “Does anyone else feel like their being watched?”
Before anyone could answer a sharp howl pierced the air, it was joined by another deeper one. what ever was tracking the group, and by sense the stupid fucking lost Wooloo, was close and was gaining on them.
“We’re gonna die.” Marnie gasped, huddling closer into Ash’s side once more after she was helped off the log.
“We’re not going to die.” Gou tried soothing the younger girl who only shook her head in fear.
“We’re going to die and no ones going to find our bodies!” Marnie cried out. she was trembling like a leaf and was showing more emotion in the past hour than the past week Ash had known her.
fear does do something to normal people then. who knew?
Ash’s own fear was a little different, his senses sharpened dangerously. everything heightened; eyesight, smell, hearing, just natural instinct of being followed. because they were being followed, the scent of soggy wet Pokemon fur and lake algae was wafting around the group. the smell reminded Ash a little of Lycanroc after playing in the sea water for a few hours. but this scent was so strong that the things were close or they were in the water for Gods know how long.
Ash didn’t comment when Bede grabbed the back of his sweater, choosing to ignore the sudden spike of fear in the group as he was now having to Push Hop forward since the shorter trainer’s legs had locked up on their own. “Again, I would put my own life before anyone else’s okay? now come on, we have a stupid lost Wooloo to find.’
Ash was a little angry at his instincts at the moment. He know’s their being followed, by a pair of something coming from the two different howls, but he can’t actually pin point where the fuck their trackers are coming from. no pounding feet or breaking twigs, no weird air disturbance, no nothing. well besides the growing sent of lake algae and wet fur. but that was the only real thing Ash could pin point and he was silently livid at that.
“How could Wooloo get so far into the-Eek!” Hop’s words were cut off by his own shriek as he launched himself back into Ash’s chest. clinging onto the taller’s neck like his life was on the line. Ash, thankfully after all these years, was trained and strong enough not to flinch to terribly at taking Hop’s weight as it seems the younger trainer was trying his best to cling onto Ash like a Komola would do to a piece of wood.
the other three reacted to the purple haired boy’s sudden reaction; Marnie let out a small yelp before shoving her face back into Ash’s sweater from where she was peaking out to see where she was walking. Gou forced themself forward to lightly block the group, their hand splaying out as the other immediately reach for their Scorbunny’s Poke ball. Pikachu had darted forward, waves of electricity flowing throw its body as Ash’s partners cheeks kept sparking in warning to what ever was approaching. Bede had coward more into Ash’s back as one of his own hands darted out to lightly grip at Gou’s jacket.
“Gou,” Ash mumbled, eyes pinpointing to the spot where two darker shadows that were larger than a normal human were approaching them.
Gou grunted, leaning more towards Ash without taking their eyes off the growing shadows.
“get your Rotom phone out and start recording.” Ash quietly demanded as he wiggled himself out of the other three grips with another demand for the four to stay put with no room for argument.
Marnie whimpered as one of her hands clenched at one of her poke balls on her own belt. Bede and Hop did the same.
Gou was shakingly recording Ash before forcing themselves to calm down. they had to remember how they met Ash and how to older trainer had dragged Gou onto Lugia’s back on an impromptu in the middle of the sea flight. so what ever was approaching, Ash could surly handle it.
Ash walked forward a few steps. bracing himself for what ever is going to emerge out of the fog.
“Baa!”
‘What the fuck?” the words slipped out of Ash’s mouth as a four legged walking, fluffier, different colored, Flaffy looking fucking thing burst into the clearing. and raced over to the group.
“Baa! Baa!” The cotton ball of a Pokemon with hooved legs wailed as it... rolled towards the group and past Ash before the young adult could react.
“What the fuck!?” Ash stated a little more loudly as his eye lids blinked rapidly.
“Wooloo!” Hop cried out at the same time as Ash spoke, bending down and dislodging Bede and Marnie’s grasp on his jacket so he could meet the rolling puff ball in a hug. “I thought we lost you!” the boy cried out.
“Good!” Bede yelled as his hands came together in a loud clap. “Now that we found this fuckers Wooloo we can get the fuck out of here!”
the other two Galarian trainers agreed, Hop calling back his Wooloo in the process as he stood up to head back. the three stopped as they noticed that Ash and Pikachu haven’t moved to follow, and in the Process Gou hasn’t stopped recording or moving.
“Hey!” Bede snarled nervously, shrinking a little more into the other two taller trainers by his side as another Pokemon cried out in the fog. “We got the lost puff ball! so let’s fucking get out of here already!” the white haired boy’s eyes snapped around the clearing, searching for what ever held Ash’s and that blasted electric rats attention.
Ash didn’t say anything, his eyes trained on the two large shadows deeper into the fog. they didn’t approach closer, choosing to stand where they were. instead of addressing Bede’s wish to leave, Ash instead turned his head sideways towards Gou’s direction without taking his eyes off of the things in front of him. “Gou,” Ash drawled, making sure to keep his breathing in check.
Gou hummed in response. choosing to stay where they were, between Ash and Pikachu and the other three, their video still recording.
“Do you...” Ash paused as one of the shadow’s shifted a little, “do you see anything in front of you?”
Gou took their time to respond, what Ash asked was a really weird question. “only... the fog surrounding us.” Gou answered, shifting nervously as their fear slowly grew. “Why?”
Ash licked his lips as a familiar note sung through his veins and an increasing magnetic pull was dragging at his bones towards the shadows. “Remember Lugia?” He called back as Pikachu next to him felt the same feeling.
Gou was starting to visibly freak out as Ash wasn’t really answering their question. “uh.. yeah? why does this have to deal with that ordeal?”
“Lugia?” the three younger trainers pipped up.
“you’ve met Lugia?’ Marnie asked.
Ash snorted as he waved his hand slightly. “Kinda, Lugia is kinda like my legendary dad because I never really had one. and being the fated ‘Chosen One’,” As’s fingers made the hooking motion twice, “I get to deal with Legendaries a lot more often than I would personally like , which is never, but we don’t always get what we want in life.” he explained, and utterly missing the other four’s reaction. “Why I asked about Lugia, Gou, is that I feel we’re about to get into some more Godly shit.”
“We?”Gou blurted. their body shook a the thought of meeting another living God.How terrifying of a thought that was.
Ash fully turned his eyes away from the shadows, certain they would be there when he looked back, and gave Gou a shy smile. “Well, we’re traveling partner’s after all,” Ash locked eyes with Gou. “Right?’
Gou cursed at Ash loudly, causing the older adult to laugh slightly before his face turned serious. “We’re really going to follow what ever your eyes are seeing?” They asked and Ash turned even more to look upon the four younger trainers.
“Who doesn’t want to go on an adventure?” the Champion asked instead, eyes roaming everyone faces.
Bede’s hand shot up, “Me!” he cried out.
“I... honestly wouldn’t mind.” Hop answered hesitantly.
Bede made a choking sound as he stumbled a little as he turned to look Hop in the face. “What the fuck is wrong with you!?”
Hop snarled, “nothings wrong with me!”
“Something has to be wrong with you if you even think that going futher into the woods, where we’re not even supposed to be in the first place, after a man stronger than any of us combined to follow what ever the fuck he see’s!” Bede snapped, one of his hands came up to point to Ash who looked back at the group with a raised eyebrow and a blank face.
“We have no other choice.’ Marnie responded instead, getting both boys to look down on her.
“Not you to!” Bede groaned, fling his arms up in the air as he turned away. “And I thought you were more sensible than that Marnie!”
“Again,” Marnie’s quiet voice spoke up, “We have no other option.’
Bede whirled back with a scary sneer plastered onto his face as he stepped forward at Marnie. “How do we not have other option? Hmm? Enlighten us please!”
before either of the other three trainers could intervene Bede and his harsh words, Marnie braced herself and faced the white haired boy with a hard frown. “Do you know how to get out of here?’
that shut Bede up quickly. the boy struggled to find the answer before his shoulders slumped not a minute after, “No.” Bede ground out. “I don’t.”
Marnie let out a timid smile before turning to Ash, “Then it’s settled.’ She declared quietly. “We follow Ash and Gou.”
“Hhnn.” Gou grumbled. they don’t mind getting lumped with Ash every now and then, but when it come’s to what Ash oh so sweetly called ‘Godly bullshit’, no thank you. They want to live thank you very much.
Ash on the other hand matched Marnie’s shy smile with his own. “welcome a bored to S.S.Tired Of This Bullshit.’
that got Marnie and Hop to laugh as they made their way over to Ash and Gou. Bede groaned and stomped his foot a little before making his own way over, dragging his feet reluctantly since he doesn’t want to make his way back by himself in such a scary place.
“Onward to adventure?” Hop asked, there was still a nervous tilt to his smile but Ash nodded.
“Onward to adventure,” Ash mumbled. he let Marnie grip lightly onto his arm since the girl was still nervous. Gou chose to fall back with Bede and Hop as Ash took the lead with Pikachu in front of them.
Gou sighed, “let’s find out what kind of shit is waiting for us,” they mumbled. Ash gave a loud laugh as he looked back at his traveling partner who matched their grin with his. “Lead the way Chosen One.”
Ash nodded his head with determination as he turned forward with curiosity burning in his eyes. More fog soon swallowed the group of five up as Ash lead the younger trainers after the shadows that were leading them ... somewhere.
in the middle of Galar, Leon got a call from his mother who was absolutely in a frantic and nervous fit. He gave a sorry smile towards Chairman Rose and some of his other sponsors as he was waved away to take the call.
once he was in the hall way Leon was able to calm down his mother enough to understand her crying babbles.
“What do you mean Hop and his Wooloo are missing? and how is the gate to the forbidden forest open!?”

Mythical Pokemon - opinion
I want to focus on the things I’ve loved about mythical pokemon back in the day and what the Pokemon company does today towards these Pokemon.

I personally never did many of the events in what can be considered a legitimate way, considering I didn't get the chance to get these items back when they first came out, however the ones I did get access to stuck with me. And the ones I checked other people obtaining and using were amazing to watch.
The first time I did an event was on a pokemon emerald rom I played on my pc, and I got to capture Mew. The event was incredibly satisfying. You receive an item and are led to a special location, in that location you feel a presence that something important will happen, and, eventually, you are met with the pokemon Mew.
( I am aware there’s a way to obtain Mew in Pokemon RBY and I was able to do so, but glitching isn’t as much fun as actually seeing the pokemon in the overworld)

To anyone who ever had the luck of doing this event, I think we can all agree that the feeling of traveling to a secret location to capture a secret Pokemon, or at least one that was never easily obtainable in the first place, felt very special, and definitely increase your gaming experience. There’s a presence to these pokemon and the places they show up in that makes them truly feel important, like secret cool boss fights. Legendaries are the main boss fights you take on (or more like boss captures in the case of Pokemon) , while mythical are pokemon you can only obtain during a certain limited time, but you also got to do a cool mini quest in the process. (ORAS Deoxys being the only one in any main game always possible to capture without event distributions)

This brings me to the latest Pokemon games. Ever since Pokemon jumped into 3D worlds there haven’t been any events like the previous ones, all you need to do is receive a Pokemon from the Mystery Gift after redeeming a code and that’s it, you have it, nothing else, no cool experience, no effort to battle it nor capture it, no trippy animations, simply given. It feels incredibly underwhelming.
Pokemon Black and White came out on the 18th of September 2010, I am writing this post in 2019, prior to the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield. It’s been nearly 9 years since the last game that featured some sort of Pokemon event which required you to obtain a certain item and travel to another location to capture a secret Pokemon.
This was also the only game I got a mythical Pokemon by doing the limited time event, the Pokemon was Victini. The very first game I bought with my own money was Black, and in it, there was a code to receive a ticket to explore an area and capture Victini, and to this day, that experience remains as a lovely memory of my love for the franchise. Unfortunately, it would also be the last event that would be this cool, every other single event I have acquired have always been mystery gift received pokemon, no battle, no capture, no challenge, straight out given by a character that doesn't even have a background. It also explains why I can barely remember the mythical Pokemon that came after generation 5.

I still don’t fully understand why this choice was made, it was a huge improvement during its years and they are universally loved by fans. Why were suddenly the Pokemon handed to you instead of you receiving the item through mystery gift? was it some sort of marketing strategy to get people out of their seats and visit their nearest gaming shop in hopes they will buy some more games while they are there? Then why not do it like that sooner? and wouldn’t people still go if they knew they’d get an item to get the Pokemon they so wanted? I’m still very confused about why they stopped making the events in its quest like manner.
Pokemon Let’s Go was the most recent game from the franchise and I’m still a bit disappointed about some features that were not included. However, making an event for Mew could have probably made the experience far better, especially if the event was based on one of the Pokemon communities biggest rumor ever created, the legendary “Mew under the truck” rumor. Which we know the creators are aware of, thus it felt like a missed chance. Mew was instead given away with the Pokeball Plus, which was even worse than giving it through Mystery Gift because now you have to pay in order to get one. It’s an even bigger disappointment knowing that they did such a cool event in Pokemon Go to get Mew and you still can’t send it to your pokemon Let’s Go copy.
Things just seem to have gotten worse for the Mythical Pokemon, and for people wallets if they so desperately want to complete their Pokedex truly to a 100%.

With all this said, here’s hoping for a brighter future for mythical Pokemon and events. I personally loved what they did with Ultra Beasts mini-boss like areas in USUM and I would love to see a mix of that and the old events in the future. We know Game Freak can pull this kind of stuff, after all, DPP and HGSS had amazing event quests and I’d love to feel that joy in doing special missions in the Pokemon games. Considering this is the era of DLC and extra content for video games, I’m surprised Pokemon hasn’t done anything of the sort yet.

Things that Grind My Gears USUM and common complaints
1. People that said USUM butchered SM’s Story.
I loved SM’s story, I found Lillie’s growth to be amazing and I loved it when Lillie stood up to her mother. The story focused on her was great until the ending where Lillie went back to her mother to help her recover, it undoes most of her growth, we are given no indication that Lusamine has learned anything and the worse part, it ends the story with no closure.
Gladion also got stuck in a position pretty horrible, having to run the place he was abused in. It was a sloppy conclusion that dampened a great story.
Ultra Sun and Moon’s changes to the story are as followed; the Ultra Recon Squad being added in, focus on Necrozma as a villain, Lusamine’s motives being changed and how they affected her kids, Lillie’s focus and the post game.
While the Ultra Recon Squad didn’t do much besides foreshadow Necrozma and the pokemon could do a bit more for build up, Necrozma gave what is to me a better climax boss compared to Mother Beast.... in that we get to fight the fused alien monster.
Further more, USUM attempted to change Lusamine for a bit more than just fitting the Necrozma story, it tried to humanize her on screen. Something that SM DID NOT DO! For many, Lusamine in SM was an irredeemable, child abusing bitch and we didn’t get the info as to why she was doing things in the first place until the post game. Wrong place and wrong time for that backstory.
In USUM, they actually mentioned Mohn and add weight to Lusamine’s backstory. Him disappearing caused her downward spiral into the villain she became, who didn’t want to let things go. That is why she froze her pokemon and that is why she became such a control freak to her kids. This also adds to Lusamine’s “Mother knows best” mindset, where she believed she was right and everyone else should shut up and let her deal with things. Which is part of the reason she used Nebby for her goals this time, to feed that ego/ messiah complex and prove to everyone that she was right.
This dangerous thinking helped motivated Gladion when he took Type:Null and ran, he saw potential in the pokemon that Lusamine sure as hell didn’t. Gladion wanted to be free from that control and knew Type:Null was treated like dirt, so he wanted to give that pokemon a better life and prove its potential as a pokemon.
Lillie is a similar deal, she took Nebby and ran because she didn’t like how it was being treated. She did the only thing she could have done to stop this mistreatment and rescued the Cosmog. That is what lead to her escaping.
She still got inspired by you the player to become a trainer, change from the outfit her mother forced on her into her Z powered form, have a talk with her mother and have that goodbye with Nebby, in a more meaningful place and for reasons that make a bit more sense than. “I’m not a trainer.”
While Exeggutor Island was cut out and it was a bummer since that was less moments with Lillie. The majority of the things she said outside of what Lusamine use to be was moved over to Rainbow Rocket’s ending OR we got to see it. While Lillie’s talk with Lusamine was off screen, the girl told us what was going to happen so we can have an idea what was being talked about while we fight Necrozma.
We got to see Lusamine take that turn around for the better. It was no different from SM where Lusamine had a recovery off screen and Lillie decided to help her recover. (The later is worse for a LOT of reasons.)
While I admit that Lillie’s lack of focus made her part of USUM’s main story weaker, it gave a better conclusion to her family and other characters in comparison due to the following.
Lillie got to become a trainer on screen and continue to live with Kukui and Burnet, far away from Lusamine. Lillie still had around the same growth, though it isn’t the focus.
Gladion got to get away from Aether and live out life on his own with Silvally. He occasionally visits and there are signs that he isn’t in completely bad ties with his family.
Lusamine, though it is in dialogue, got an onscreen turn around. Thawed out her frozen pokemon after Rainbow Rocket/ was starting to do that, let her kids go and had closure with Mohn. A more believable redemption and closure compared to her SM ending where we see nothing but her as a villain.
Guzma had a bigger redemption arc as of RR.
The Captains have a last hurrah at Mina’s trial.
Hau had a more complete story arc where he takes things more seriously. I can close this story book and know how it ends for our characters.
Where exactly was things ruined outside of the lack of focus on Lillie? To me.... nothing.
2. USUM’s “Plot Holes” compared to SM.
In relation to the story, things play out the same way and the changes to Lusamine raised a lot of questions.
a. Why does Lillie still have the same look as in SM when Lusamine doesn’t have an obsession with Nihilego in USUM?
b. Why did Nihilego show up in USUM when Lusamine’s plans have nothing to do with it?
c. Why didn’t Lusamine use the legendary the Ultra Recon Squad have to go after Necrozma or why did the Recon Squad let Lusamine do what she did with Nebby.
d. Gladion’s reason for stealing Type:Null doesn’t make sense in USUM since it is just to get stronger and protect his family?
e. Why did they retcon Lusamine into “she didn’t do nothing wrong”/ Why is the game trying to depict Lusamine as a good person when she still abused her kids, has the frozen pokemon and tried to kill Nebby?
My answers are not popular... but here they go.
a. I did use to believe that Lusamine dressed Lillie up to resemble Nihilego, but then USUM changed that woman’s motives to where it had nothing to do with wanting that beast. But instead of raging about that “plot hole”, I believe that the resemblance is ultimately just a coincidence and nothing more in both sets of games. No one in the two sets of games has pointed out the resemblance. Just that Lusamine demanded Lillie and Gladion do what she says/ treated them like ornaments.
Lusamine was still such a control freak to her kids that she didn’t even let them pick their own look. They look what SHE wanted them to look/ do what she wanted them to do because “Mother Knows Best.” It’s pretty messed up, emotional abuse, it is why Lillie has little self confidence because she was treated as a child that should shut up and listen to the adult. It is how Gladion has all that frustration and need to do things his way.
Lillie changing her look and taking life into her own hands still has the same weight and impact in both sets of games. Lillie is stepping out of that smothering shadow and became her own person.
b. Nihilego showed up at Aether Paradise because the Aether Foundation was messing with Ultra wormholes. That is a given in both games, the reasons for the wormhole opening were different, BUT that is why the wormhole opened up. The Wormhole was just Nihilego’s, in SM that part was intended while in USUM it wasn’t.
c. Now for the legendary the URS have, that pokemon was their only ride in and out of home at Ultra Megaopolis, if they let their Solgaleo/ Lunala near Necrozma... that prism would eat them and they be screwed over. They let Lusamine do what she did with Nebby because it was a more acceptable lose/ result in a safer way to fight Necrozma in a more controllable way. The URS resulted to using theirs as a last resort when Nebby (You and Lillie’s only way into Ultra Space.) got eaten by Necrozma.
d. In USUM, Lusamine never had that obsession with the Ultra Beasts that escalated as it did in SM. Gladion took Type:Null and ran because 1. He had it with Lusamine’s abuse, didn’t like how she was treating Type:Null, stole it and ran to prove to that woman that she was wrong. With plans to come back once Null’s Power was realized. This can also split open in SM, where Gladion took Null and wanted to stop Lusamine, that woman was GONE and that boy’s only objective is to protect the family he had left and face his problems head on. So his change wasn’t that drastic and it opens him up more as a boy that has to manage quite a lot on his hands by himself.
e. As for the “Retcon!” There had to be a reason why Lusamine was nowhere near as extreme as she was in at SM. There was a reason why Lusamine’s goal had nothing to do with Nihilego in USUM. The post game of SM had this to say in the matter along with Guzma’s description of what Nihilego does to you.
From Wicke’s Note on Nihilego. “There have been sightings reported of this beast in Alola's past. Its most distinctive feature is its parasitic capability. When Nihilego latches on to a host, it does not manipulate its actions directly. Rather it awakens the host's own capabilities and boosts them to an extreme extent in order to protect itself. It injects the host with a sort of neurotoxin to achieve this effect. This neurotoxin of Nihilego's is incredibly stimulating and inspires feelings of extreme excitement and a lack of inhibition in its host. In other words, anything or anyone that a Nihilego latches on to will have its native skills forcibly activated to their fullest extent and will then act as it naturally desires to.”
This was the games attempt at trying to tell us that prior to SM’s events, Lusamine either got affected by the venom in some way or form... probably from the Wormhole experiments in opening the wormhole and trying to find Mohn or she kept focusing on the beasts and kept digging down the rabbit hole. Which was how she focused only on Nihilego and nothing else. It doesn’t excuse any of the crap she pulled, but it is the only real explanation we have and to be honest, she chose to dig that deep.
In USUM, Lusamine never got affected by that venom/ had something else to focus on and thus her motives for messing with the wormholes are different, she shows a care for her kids, the pokemon she has, etc.
Even without Nihilego, everything... from the abuse of her kids, the frozen pokemon, taking advantage of others and even allowing Null to happen were ALL from her and that is the reason we want to see this woman get knocked off her high horse. The things we should be mad at her for, because they all stemmed from her and it is why she is a villain in USUM.

USUM just made the changes so we can have that desire to see her get kicked and feel bad for how it got to the mess it did in the first place, while giving us the hope that she can be salvaged and have a turn around/ repair her relationship with her kids.
She became a problem for most of the game because she was going to go Leeroy on everyone and as everyone feared, it would have made things worse.
It is called, humanizing your villain on screen. Lusamine is less scary as a villain in this game, but she came off as a character with some actual depth to the things she has done as well as the villain Game Freak intended to make. One that can turn around for the better and have a hope of reconnecting with her kids in the end.
Nothing was really retconned, but things were cleared up in a way to show us what she would have been like without going down the rabbit hole she did in SM.
3. Lusamine’s abuse of her kids got swept under the rug, her turn around came out of nowhere and she got off Scott free in USUM.
a. It didn’t, Lusamine admitted to her kids that they were right to take the pokemon and run. She started making amends to the Cosmog she hurt right when you came back and Lillie only came back to Aether to see Nebby recover, after that they parted ways. Lusamine also had an identity crisis in between the post game and RR, where she realize just how much of a fuck up she was and after RR she decided on how to fix herself.
Getting her ass kicked was already done by Necrozma and more of it was not needed now that she learned her lesson and started making amends. This woman letting her kids go was another hint that she knew what she did was wrong, she got that and she hopes the best for them. (Seen with the goodbye between her and Gladion.)
b. Lusamine’s whole Leeroy Jenkins thing backfired, Necrozma is causing problems on Alola... problems she tried to prevent and funny enough, problems she caused in SM. The Ultra Recon Squad were chewing her out for her crap and Lillie had her turn with her while you were fighting Necrozma. It may have been off screen, but it is common sense to think THAT is when people were able to get it through her head in just how reckless she has been and get her to self reflect on the things she has done.
c. Despite Lusamine getting sick in SM at the end... she and the whole of Aether got off scott free for their shit in there as well. It’s pokemon, it is very likely Lillie and Bill would fix her up and she would recover. (Sacred Ashes exist for a reason people... its that strong of medicine.)
Another thing in Pokemon. Archie, Maxie, Colress and grunts from various villain teams have gotten off scott free for their shit and in USUM, Lusamine not having legal repercussions isn’t that different from them. So this didn’t bother me so much and if anything, Aether being raided by Team RR works as karma since now they are being taken advantage off... by force.
4. USUM should have been a sequel instead of ruining SM’s story/ should have been DLC.
a. I don’t understand why they didn’t make a sequel, BW2 was known for this... but there were a couple plot holes that came from BW2. One, what happened to the previous protagonist and all the characters that got involved with that one just mention them? It made things a bit shallower since the new protagonist is a substitute for them.
In addition, BW2′s story... compared to BW... wasn’t that great. It was a basic, bad guys are using a legendary for their goals, cause trouble in random locations etc that we see in every other game and unlike BW it wasn’t the whole plot. While a Sequel to SM might give closure... it would have caused as many problems as what BW2 did.
So I kind of appreciate that USUM was a rewrite of the story, it helped polish things out and give a better sense of closure. While SM had a more emotional story, I would take USUM as a whole over it due to that one giving closure while still having some of those emotions.
Also, DLC wouldn’t have covered a whole new challenge with the trials, trainers, new pokemon ETC... this was done in Crystal, Emerald and Platinum. So why is USUM doing any problems when some games with DLC abuse the hell out of it and milk us for money?
I apologize for the long rant, but I wanted to get this out of my system.
SM are good games, but USUM came around, did things a lot better in most areas and became the definitive edition of this generation. I really wish more people see it as the improved version of SM instead of a hindrance to Gen 7, it and the story doesn’t deserve the hate it gets.
