Country singer Steve Harrington, who has always leaned more into the pop country side of things (think Wanted by Hunter Hayes), but wants his third album to be more true to old school country roots.
His label agrees but only if he works with Eddie Munson, a rock star who had to leave the spotlight when he got kicked out of his band for, well, rockstar behavior gone too far.
Steve isn't amused, especially because he doesn't care for metal music or rock star shenanigans. He was "raised better" and doesn't think Eddie could sit down and write songs with actual emotion and feeling.
Cue long songwriting sessions where Eddie is trying his hardest to be on his best behavior because he knows this is his last shot at being taken seriously, and Steve being surprised every time Eddie proves that he's talented as a songwriter and musician, well outside the scope of just metal and rock.
They write a song that they're both so proud of, Steve asks if he'll record it with him just for fun. The released version would just be Steve.
Eddie agrees.
It's an incredible duet, something country music has needed forever, but Eddie doesn't want that version out there.
The label genuinely accidentally releases their version instead of the Steve only version. As soon as they realize, they remove it from official places, but it's too late.
Fans have already heard it and have gone crazy over it, begging them to let the radio play this version, begging for this version to be available for streaming. The Steve version is great, but it doesn't have the emotion that's laced in the tone of them singing together.
Eddie finally gives in when he sees how happy Steve is about the reaction to it.
But the label decides they want them to tour together, have Eddie work as his opening act, perform his acoustic songs that haven't been officially released anywhere. Eddie can't do it.
He can't go back into that lifestyle. He couldn't do it to his band, who made him promise that he'd come back to them when he got his shit straight. He can't do it to his fans, who stuck by him through some rough shit, but probably wouldn't support a fucking country music career. He definitely can't do it to Steve, who deserves to have someone with him who can be trusted not to go off the deep end.
So he runs. He hides. His uncle welcomes him home, congratulates him on finally embracing his country roots.
It doesn't take long for Steve to find him.
Because he'd been more honest with Steve than he'd ever been with anyone. He told him about his childhood, his Uncle Wayne, his struggle to make it. He told him about his worse struggle when he did make it, how he got in with the wrong people, the wrong things. Prioritized the lifestyle more than his own life.
Of course Steve knew where he'd run to.
Of course Steve came to remind him what his life could be if he allowed himself to find new priorities.
Steve's lips were pretty persuasive, but not nearly as persuasive as his promises to remind him what he could have if he kept his life his priority.
"But what if I let you down?"
"You won't."
"But-"
"No. You won't. You're gonna do amazing things for yourself. And I'm gonna be there to see it happen. That's all."
And he was.
They co-wrote Steve's entire album while Eddie worked on recording his own original songs. He liked that it was an old school rock and roll feel, some blues, some country, some hints of metal sneaking in on a couple songs.
He called his band to come help him with a song, hesitant to even ask, but they came. Of course they came.
He called his Uncle Wayne to play banjo on a song, worried that he wouldn't like the heavier electric guitar notes over it. Of course he loved being involved.
When their tour started, he let himself actually feel nervous.
But instead of running, he looked at the man who supported him through it, even when his own career was on the line.
Of course Steve was there.

I've answered this before but I was reading galwhorants' answers and suddenly the words "world shaking" popped into my head, and I remembered that the main site I used to read Ami/Makoto (sailors Mercury and Jupiter from Sailor Moon) fanfic was on worldshaking.net so I looked it up and that site has been rebuilt and some of the fanfic restored! So if you are curious about what babyqueer me was reading ~1997 it's still around and you can go see for yourself (shout-out to the author & curator Erica Friedman who was [and still is] a mentor and community-builder for so many of us; she was the one who organized Yuricon which is still an excellent resource if you want to get into or understand the history of yuri!).

I finished book 1 and am chipping away at book 2 of MoDu (Silent Reading); it is such a satisfying read! I need more hours in the day so I can keep reading it.
Last movie
I just finished the short Burmese film Khar Taw Mi (another Trust Entertainment work centered around Thingyan, this time around the cultural performance aspects rather than the water party parts, so lots of traditional music and dance). If we're talking feature film, hmm, I think it was either Doi Boy (2023) or Past Lives (2023), I can't remember the order I watched them in; I watched them both in March (and both were very good).
Currently craving
Honestly, what I most want right now is spoons to do the things I've been dragging my feet on doing. Food-wise, I was giving a colleague tips on visiting Newfoundland and now I'm craving soft-serve creamsicle ice cream, which I've only ever had in St. John's.

#okay so random tag post even though it's been ages#me thinks the current place i work is actually decent a la accepting-queer-ppl so?? miiiiight. consider actually putting my#pronouns in my email signature (which hardly gets used but shh) but like. the actual ones not the society/people assume anyway ones#idk i attended a virtual tech focused event for trans dov (yes early but they didn't want to put the event on sun) and you know when#everyone is just sharing their stories and experiences and it's just like... an overwhelming sense of community? anyway that#and since it was hosted by a professional org the topics were all workplace focused and mayhaps that's something i'm thinking abt for#this year. at least within our pride group I might be ready? wild bc for a long time tumblr has been the only place I feel comfy being 100%#myself. but hearing real people's stories makes me feel like that kind of community would be nice to have elsewhere too#and the whole looking to others also turns around into the leading by example thing bc then we had some breakout groups at the end for#networking which is not my favorite but! i did my intro and said I use she/her for work but will use she/they for this group and#then the next person said he/him at work but for this group he/they so that made me wonder if it was bc of me saying so first?#which if it was is kind of like oh. the way I'm looking for those people for me.. while i am here i stayed up til 8am rereading icebreaker by a. l. graziadei yesterday for the first time since it came out & ive been offline because theres no fandom for it but i cant stop thinking abt mickey so ive been devouring any mindless book i can get my hands on. if u want a cute little YA romance abt sports & mental health it is probably up ur alley :) you :) read it :)

a mindset that i really truly find incomprehensible is people who so thoroughly believe in an ontologically just world that when you explain a relation of causality to them (‘X happened because Y’), they interpret it as a normative relation (’Y justifies X’)—and then attack you for beliefs they now assume you hold. like fifty of these people are summoned into being whenever you try to talk online about, like, a realist view of geopolitics or the root causes of abuse and violence and i’m like. how can you exist in Reality with this worldview. how terrifying must the world be when you genuinely believe that evil simply manifests sui generis hermetically sealed from all causality

one day I'll write the actual fic I have in mind about how Ari completely ruins Ulfric's life with one simple action (handing him the Thalmor dossier on himself while Elenwen, across the table, threatens Ari with ratting him out to his father) and the aftermath (Ulfric ultimately stepping down as Jarl while he readjusts his entire worldview, attempts to start a normal, civilian life, and grapples with the fact that he'd unintentionally been doing the dirty work for the people he thought he was fighting against) but for now i will sit with these brainworms I have of Ari just seeing this miserable nord man's life crumble and knowing that ruining his life was the best thing to happen in this situation
#i know ulfric is a very divisive character. but he and ari share the trait of being manipulated by the thalmor#and ari feels so much pity for him. and ari is also the type to always offer a second chance because *he* got one#and he'd rather see ulfric own up to his mistakes and contemplate what he did#than just kill him outright#and hey. possible storyline outcome where Ulfric becomes a greybeard#as a parallel to Ari and the Blades#wild concept but also. after he loses everything and has to reshape his entire outlook. what better option than to become a monk#and be forced into silence to contemplate and reflect on his actions#in the same way Paarthurnax does?#plus something something vow of silence paralleling the fact that he was silenced in helgen#only this time it's voluntary rather than forced on him#i know i said forced before but#wording. not gonna bother editing tags

Decided to revisit her character and put more depth into her personality! :)
Republic of San Marino // Repubblica di San Marino
Natalina Stefanelli • she/her • September 3, 301 AD • 1,722 years old (19 human years)
Founded by Marinus of Rab, a Christain stonemason, who fled from the Roman Empire in an attempt to evade religious persecution by Emperor Diocletian. She’s an enclave microstate located in North-central Italy atop Mount Titano, the closest Italian city being Rimini, which is also the only access point by bus. The capital of San Marino is the City of San Marino. San Marino is the 5th smallest country in the world.
Although her boarders are open to anyone with a valid visa for Italy without any necessary boarder checks needed, she’s a fairly closed off person— well, she opens up a little bit with her family or selected friends around. But she prefers her own company over others the most. She’s very fond of old fashioned aesthetics and likes to keep things fairly the same. San Marino doesn’t get out often, but when she does it’s usually by force of Vatican City trying to make her socialize with someone other than her favorite barista, her next door neighbor, and mailman. She’s very welcoming to tourists and will interact with them when she feels like it. Veneziano visits her more than forces her out of the house. Sometimes he paints the pottery she makes. Romano and Seborga don’t visit much, they mainly interact during the family dinners Vatican City forces San Marino to come to once a year.
When she does open up, she’s a kind and inviting person who tends to talk a lot about the historical aspects of her home. She’s more than happy to bake you a special treat known as Torta Tre Monti— Cake of the Three Moutains/Towers. She prides herself on being the oldest sovereign state.
Being an enclave has made San Marino so used to limited space that she prefers it to having a big space. But it is nice to get out and go to the beach every once in awhile, by her choice of course. The Rimini beaches are her favorite to visit because it’s the closet.
She has three moles which represent the three towers of Mount Titano; the first mole by her mouth is the Cesta, the highest tower on the summit. The bigger mole on her neck is the Guaita, the oldest and most famous of the three. Lastly is the Montale, the smallest tower. The single stray curl in her straightened hair is a reference to her relation with the Roman Empire.

I focused more on the fact that she’s land locked by Italy and translated that in her being an ambivert— she prefers having time to herself, but she’s willing to spend time with others— sparingly that is. I dunno. I just thought it’d be a nice contrast to Veneziano, Romano, and Seborga’s personalities! She’s the one with the untreated social anxiety in the family :) /j but fr, I just thought having another bubbly freak or a grumpy boo would be way too overwhelming and would cause the characters to clash so I kind of settled in between that— depression! :DDD /j also I kind of wrote her with having the role of aunt for the Italy brothers. I remember debating on making her the big sister or aunt and landed on aunt for specific reasons I barely remember lol. But I really liked the idea so I ran with it. She and Vatican City are brother and sister. I wanted to add quite a bit of historical facts in this little character profile thing to kind of explain how she reacted in those situations but it’d be way too long if I did that lmao. But with what I did add, please feel free to correct me if it is wrong. I don’t care, just let loose and correct, fuck me up if you have to lmao. Also it was her birthday yesterday, September 3rd! Wish her a belated birthday :)

hey, does anyone else have an issue on animal jam play wild where it just. Stops letting you open the boxes in treasure hunt? I've had this issue on Expert twice in a row and it's really frustrating because I'm forced to exit and waste a hunt...
It still lets me flag spaces, but when I switch back it just... doesn't work? I'm not entirely sure if this is Expert mode exclusive or anything.... but it is frustrating regardless!!

What do you think gay men are attracted to in men that they can’t be attracted to in women?
It can’t be anything about femininity or masculinity obviously. That’s both sexist, and cultural so can’t be what drives men-only attraction.
It can’t be anything about stated identity because someone could lie just as easily as they could tell the truth in such a statement, and it makes no sense because homosexuality and heterosexuality exists in other species with no stated identities. It’s not like other animals without gender are all pan.
Saying idk it’s the vibes or some indescribable trait men have that women can’t but “I can’t explain” is a nonanswer.
