In case you didn’t realize or never thought about it: once you are an adult you have the power and right to redefine ALL of your relationships with your family. People talk so often about what this means for cutting people off.

They don’t talk so often about what it means for relationships that are traditionally bad. My dad hates his brother and I always thought his reasons were stupid. My uncle is a really kind and thoughtful man, he has most of the qualities I’ve always liked about my (abusive) dad, but a lot of humility, kindness, and introspection that he doesn’t. I never liked when my dad talked shit about him.

Now that I’m an adult, I can choose to be in close contact with my uncle and my cousins. My dad tried to poison me against him, but it didn’t work. If there are branches of your family that you’ve been cut off from and you don’t think the reasons are good, remember: when you’re an adult, you’re in charge. You can choose to repair those relationships.

something that i will never get over about any media discussing jason’s robin days is how you never stop seeing the tragedy. no matter how happy his time at the manor was, no matter how close he and bruce became, no matter how he gained a family, it always is there in the back of your head as well as the narrative: the knowledge that it won’t last. this is so much worse to me when i think about how jason wasn’t always intended to die at the hands of the joker, but that it is now a defining aspect of nearly all media surrounding him. it is a fixed tragedy that only the audience sees and that hurts.
