Fandom fic thoughts no one asked for:
I am highly, highly against Wednesday having any dialogue in which she speaks like her parents to her loved ones, i.e. all of that "Mon cher!" garbage towards Enid. It's cringey:
1. It's traditionally romantic and excessively cheesy, and [Ortega's] Wednesday is not. She just isn't, and y'all should know better. ETA: In regards to love, her parents are like Pepe Le Pew and a willing/enamored skunk (I forget if Pepe ever found his equal, but I do remember the girl cat got 🧠 'ed into behaving like Pepe usually does, which gave him a taste of his own psycho stalker medicine...ah, we had some fkd up cartoons back in the day). Wednesday would be like Michigan J. Frog...animated with only one person, in private...and that's still not a guarantee that she would ever want to emulate her mother, with whom we know that there are severe issues between them. Ridiculous, exaggerated displays of affection define Gomez and Morticia. To have Wednesday behave like that would be sacrificing the one thing that keeps her from turning into a total clone of them.
She can end up wanting to have love and a partner, and even a family, but that does not change the public mask [of a narcissist], and the notion that she would be perceived exactly like her mother upsets her. Direct reasons aren't given by the show, but by how they interact, we can see that Wednesday believes that 'everything is a competition'...but it's not [Morticia's] accomplishments that she rattles off that are the problem; it's somewhere, Wednesday picked up some terrible, terrible "I'm not good enough, I will never be as good as she is" blows to her psyche. From Wednesday's POV, she believes her mother is a narcissist (her self-awareness of her own narcissism is for its own post); only a narcissist would purposefully break someone else's chances of either being equal to or surpassing their greatness, and they get envious (and ego hurt) when it happens.
(...God, now I wanna program Ortega's voice to sing the fkn frog's song 🤣💀)
2. She doesn't want to be like her parents, and that would just...make her be more like her parents. This is the most major personal growth theme in the whole of the show, and it can't be ignored, otherwise it just turns Ortega's Wednesday into a generic iteration of a 'Wednesday character'. If it were one drabble or fic, alright, that's AU, but I see it in nine out of ten Wenclair 'drabbles' (if you can call straight-on dialogue shorts drabbles...we did not, back in the day) that clog up my fyp.
3. Her parents are extremely cultured and speak those love languages/romance languages as a whole together, to each other. Enid is not that kind of cultured at all (she can't spell, has bad grammar, and is just not interested in the same things Wednesday is). Enid would think it was cute, too, and Wednesday doesn't do cute, either (ever! EVER.**).
4. Again, Wednesday doesn't want to be like her parents, and it would be unfunnily mortifying to her to speak like that in public and in front of other people, even if she were fucking Enid. In private? See #1 and 2.
5. In Afterburn: It pained me to have her let slip the Spanish to Donovan on her birthday, but I did it because it was an unintentional slip, it was in private, and it wasn't a pet name, it was a command. She is very much like her mother in bed, but she also knows that Donovan isn't as cultured as her parents, and thus, she will refrain from that "mon cher/mon amour/whatever non-English pet names" crap.
6. There are so many other things Wednesday could call Enid (or Tyler, or Xavier, or whoever the Hell's she's paired with) without becoming a clone of her mother. Resorting to Gomez and Morticia's horribly cloying phrases is not charming, it's laziness. *channeling my inner Bianca here*
7. Now this goes back to #2 and #4, but on that note: There are obvious issues between Wednesday and her mother, and sounding like her disturbs the Hell out of her (or behaving like her, which is why Wednesday's eyes just about shit themselves in different directions when Fester said that her "death stare of disapproval reminded him of her mother").
It's almost like she has a glass eye.👀 It's there bc the AI picked it up hard I guess & it affected my outputs.
There is no way in Hell, no matter how juicy-tasty Enid's furry twat is, that Wednesday would suddenly decide that she should mimic Morticia.
I know all of this is gonna piss off a whole lot of people, but I don't care. It's not Wednesdaying right to have her call anyone by the same pet names her parents use, no matter how fluffy the relationship is. She just doesn't do relationships the same way her parents do. It's far more OOC to do that than even my pairing her up with Donovan is (which needs its own reasoning, probably in a different rant).
Rant over, and y'all can keep goin', but that's not gonna make the dialogue sound any less terrible and embarrassing.
**Afterburn Wednesday does do 'cute' with Donovan in private, but it's because of the fundamental differences from N/Canon attached to her core personality, i.e. she's hypersexual and has some regression issues here and there. Even still, she has a very hard time calling him any pet names because once again for those in the back: She does not want to be like her parents or associate her love with her parents' love, even as she recognizes that she is a lot like her mother. 🤷🏽♂️
(Also, I just read an incorrect assumption. Morgues have blood samples. They don't keep whole ass blood bags like blood banks/hospitals do. Get that right before you write me some Yoko & Wednesday.)

French is my second language. (Basic French pet names within.)
When I was ten years old, I was forced to learn French, Italian, and German (mostly French, because we were going to live in France, but just travel to Italy and Germany...at the same time, I picked up some Romanian as well, since I loved vampires/the real Dracula at the time). I retained spoken French and Italian, but my spoken German and Romanian suck, and I'm much better at Spanish (which is my father's first language...I was just never formally taught it, and had to pick it up on my own after we came back from France since it's what my grandmother spoke). I am literate in several other languages, but my strengths are French, Spanish, and Italian (including "Italian" from the Renaissance Era...which is another thing that bugs the crap out of me re: the show, because modern Italian on an espresso machine owner's manual does not equal the Florentine dialect that Machiavelli wrote in, so that was a piece of dialogue hit me weird...probably a Me Problem).
The languages are much different than English, especially French. It's not just about how much Netflix Wednesday hates being compared to her parents. It's about the language itself that's kind of important if you want to insist that your Wednesday use French (or other non-English language) pet names for Enid.
In my other post about this, I made one small error in judgment: AB Sheriff Galpin is a little cultured since he was married to a Frenchwoman, so he would know some French. However, I still don't think Wednesday would pull any French terms of endearment on him, for that very reason...she wouldn't to be compared to Francoise and she wouldn't want to trigger Donovan like that. IF Donovan were to relax his trauma around Francoise, he would definitely be calling Wednesday "ma crevette"...i.e. "my little munchkin" (literally means shrimp 💀...he might just do so in some way yet, I'm thinkin' about it).
But before I get into the French, y'all need to be strongly reminded of just how much Wednesday despises the way her parents relate to each other romantically: She hates it SO MUCH that her hatred for it caused birds to die. Birds that look like they're supposed to be mourning doves.

Though their undersides don't, but I'm going to chalk it up to lazy CGI and lazy detailing, like the extremely, extremely lazy prop masters/set dressers who made the damnably inaccurate articles on Sheriff Galpin's cork board. All the articles and information in them were terribly inaccurate to what we were told on screen.
Regardless, birds DIED. That's how strong her hatred for how they behave romantically is.
But if you must insist on having Wednesday behave like her parents, at least get the language correct.
French is a heavily gendered language. I'm not even going to get into the current war over gender neutral French for the nbs, because that's not what this is about. Wenclair is a lesbian couple, and we are definitely dealing with females 99.9% of the time here w/the ship.
Thus Netflix Wednesday, being proficient in at least Spanish and Italian, would know how to use the next romance language properly, and would know proper pet names for males vs. females. She's cultured like that, and anything less would make her look stupid...and none of us want to make her look stupid.
Now to get to what's been bugging the Hell out of me:
It wouldn't be "mon loup". It would be "ma louloute" (though a literal translation of "my wolf" feminine would be "ma louve", which is kind of cute and looks like "love", but when the French want to get cute, they get cute). "Mon loup" is to refer to a male, so if Wednesday was dating Xavier or Tyler, it'd be "mon loup".
When I was growing up in France, one big pet name was "mon chou" (literally "my cabbage", even though it refers to a chou à la crème, i.e. a cream puff). My mother used to call me "mon petit chou", even though at the time I was still *living within my young AFAB body (corrected for clarity, I'm AFAB of course, this was long before my transition); she wasn't and isn't ever accurate with her French, because the feminine of "mon petit chou" is "ma chouchoute/choupinette". (I could see a Wenclair Wends getting creative and creating her own word, "lupinette" based on this.)
Other gendered* appropriate terms of endearment Wednesday would use if so compelled:
"ma biche"/"ma bichette" (my doe/my little doe) (Enid: WHAT did you call me??? 🤣)
"ma tigresse" (my tigress 🐯)
"ma poule" (my hen) or "ma poulette" (my little chick 🐣)
"ma princesse"
"ma douce" (my sweet) (Enid: DID YOU JUST CALL ME A DOUCHE? 💀)
"ma puce" (this is another I heard often, it literally means "flea", but in French it's affectionate)
"ma petite femme" (my little wife)
"ma reine" (my queen)
Finally, it's not "mon chéri", it's "ma chérie". That's the most basic one there is.
There are a ton of others out there, but these are the classics that I remember, and classic is what I assume all canon Ortega Wednesday is. Traditional, allergic to technology, sticks to old fashioned behavior like Donovan (I mean, did you bother to read that one page of her novel from Episode 7? Her writing vocabulary is off the charts and typical of someone raised/trained classically... that's the real reason her publishers probably rejected her).
*I say gendered appropriate (not "gender appropriate") because I'm talking about the language and there are French terms of endearment that do not have a feminine form, like "mon cœur" and "mon amour". These terms you can use for women/girlfriends that are 'masculine' gendered (yes, I realize there are a lot of animal ones, but that's French for ya):
"mon petit monstre" (my little monster)
"mon petit oiseau" (my little bird...oh hello, Sandor, where'd you come from 💩)
"mon poussin" (my chick 🐣)
"mon chaton" (my kitten 🐾)
"mon trésor" (my treasure)
"mon doudou" (my cuddlebug, basically)
"mon coco" (literally coconut, but it's like saying "my dear")
"mon ange" (my angel)
"mon lutin" (my elf...which might by apropos for Enid 🫠)
This is not at all meant to be an exhaustive list; there are several other pet names and probably new ones since language is constantly evolving. It might help to poke around online and/or join forums dedicated to those who speak your target language.
I realize it can be confusing. Non-English romance languages can be, if you don't know anything about them. As a writer, I'm very appreciative of my experiences in France and Italy*, and I think the newer writers need to think outside of the Anglocentric box when writing for a character like Netflix Wednesday. (I need to take my own advice, because I programmed one of my deleted scenes in English audio without thinking of the non-English speakers who read my fic. That's a whole other issue tho 🧠💥.)
Huh. That wasn't as bloody as I could've made it. I must be getting soft in my old age.
Anyway. We all want Wednesday to sound like someone who knows what she's doing. We should do better with our conversational dialogue than the actual writers. We don't want our Wednesday to be embarrassed or embarrassing, again...

BTW, this old man is turning 50 in two months, be kind to me as I've been falling afuckingsleep with my phone in my hand a lot lately.
I guess I have to watch more of her off camera stuff...never noticed how upset she looked at the Finestkind premiere here... it's different from her other appearances (from that I've seen) 😕
I'm of the genetic pool that doesn't age much and I found 2 gray hairs by my hairline the other day. I was tempted to rip them out...I still might...but left them there because tearing them out is what my mother did routinely to my father when he was going gray at...40 or so. Late 30's. At some point it became too much, since his side of the family is fucking normal and not a bunch of gd vampires like my mother's. She made me pick out hers, which were scarce, like mine now. She's 77 and her hair is still mostly black. My grandmother/her mother was the same way up until the day she died, and I suspect it'll be the same with me.
Anyway, enough about them. I'm old. I fall asleep often. But I will get this whole story out soon-ish, as well as jumping back into the Wednesday stuff. Maybe their filming for Season 2 will generate some vibes for all of us and our creativity.

...I just had to explain to someone, seven chapters in, that Satisfying Afterburn is a love story, since they complained(!) that they "didn't like Wednesday in love" because she's acting more like a teenage girl.
Well sorry not sorry, she's still sixteen (since I'm going by N/Canon and following the canon story). No matter what attributes she holds as a character, she still has teen girl qualities that are embarrassing sometimes...except that that behavior only comes out with Donovan, and that she isn't much embarrassed by them when with him. Why? I could get deep into the psychology of it, but what's the use if people are just looking for straight-on, graphic smut?
I'm also at a loss as to where in this last chapter I deviated from the character that I've already established (which is really not too far off of N/Canon). Where did she even act any different than she usually does? Her reactions are pretty consistent. She became a real bitch when she thought she was threatened/betrayed/harmed (Enid, Kinbott) and then went after Enid's boyfriend. Is that the part? Because the way she targeted Ajax is in-character/IC, since he will prove useful in the long run for her. She's a user, and that hasn't changed. Here I thought I'd get complaints about Enid (who I deep dive into in the chapter, and Wednesday's Day Off has BFF/Wenclair vibes...I mean, she's literally got both Donovan and Enid on the brain)...so this was unexpected.
Gah.
Anyway. They're standing closer in the above comic photo. They're also surprised at that kind of feedback.

Status update: The damn thing is 53 pages long so far and it's still not done. I want to say it will be 55-57 (hopefully not 60) pages once it's done. There's a conversation with Bianca that I need to navigate.
Yeah I'm talking about Chapter 7 Part 2, what else.
Anyway, more Afterburn casting because I like to have images in my head when writing (buh, WHO ARE THEY?... they're showing up in 7/2): For Judge Christine Stone, I've chosen Amanda Righetti. She has the voice and the presence, to me at least. She is being introduced now, but will appear in AtB.
For "Moira", I have chosen the lovely Katie McGrath (yep, the Luthor is useful here🫠).
It makes sense, even if McGrath is a little young:
I feel like she'd be able to pull off the snob that is needed for the scene that she's in.
It's a cameo appearance...so far. Because I really like her and wouldn't mind writing her again. I'm going to make an educated guess and say she will show up in After the Burn. She kind of has to.
