Hello, five (or more, I wouldn't say no) spontaneous headcanons about a willex boarding school au? 👀 (sfw please)

-When Caleb gets a call that his sister left custody over her son to him, a nephew he never even knew he had, he is like: wtf. When he comes to meet with the social worker and sees the long hair, tie-dye crop top, and earring, he’s like: of course I am taking him in. (There’s a reason he hasn’t talked to his family for decades and he will not have them do the same to Willie as they did to him.)

Except being a full-time parent and running the HGC is not a great combination, especially with Willie’s flair for Chaos. So he makes him a deal: he can go to any boarding school in the country, or even the world, if he promises to behave enough not to get kicked out, and in return he can wreak whatever chaos he wants in the summers (within reason).

-Willie chooses the boarding school because they have a great art program, they’re queer-friendly (Caleb called to check), and it’s in the Woods and he 1) always liked the woods and 2) wants to see Bigfoot.

-Alex’ parents sent him to boarding school after he came out. Alex is not sure he understands their reasoning, given that it is an all-boy’s boarding school and that is like the opposite of ‘straightening him out’, but anything is better than the icy silence at home. Alex’ parents do not know the entire stack of Hot Gay Boarding School Romance Novels under his older sister’s bed that Alex may or may not have borrowed.

-Listen Alex likes his roommate Luke and he’s kind of open to the idea of starting a band with him but also he is SO ENERGETIC and he cannot sit still and he’s always humming and it drives Alex insane.

-So he goes to hide out in the library. Not the fancy new one with amazing computers and a 3D printer and shit, the dusty old one nobody uses because the wifi is shit and it‘s always cold and drafty but it looks great on pamphlets for the Old Money crowd. He bundles up in his hoodie and finds a comfy armchair and just gets to Be Still for a moment.

-Except his peace and quiet is interrupted at a gleeful shout and then a maniac on a skateboard comes into view, sliding his board on the fancy brass railings before landing hard and rolling right into Alex and his comfy armchair, sending both of them toppling backward.

-“Oh man you dinged my board” meetcute etc etc.

-Lots of cute sneaking around in the dark holding hands dates. Willie shows him how to get on the roof and it’s so peaceful and pretty there he loves it. They take up a blanket and watch the stars next time, and share their first kiss there.

-Maybe he sends his sister a postcard like: ‘Boarding school is great, I am learning so much, all this nature is so good for me, etc etc platitudes’ along with an abbreviated title of one of their favourite books with the chapter in which the main characters have their first kiss... on a rooftop.

- “I dunno what HGBSRNCH12 means, Mom, I think he was just trying to clean his pen or something, it’s just a random scribble. You know Alex hates when pens aren’t writing smoothly.”

-Soon they form a little group with Bobby (rich parents who travel a lot and don’t want to take him with them) and Reggie (the scholarship kid). Reggie is upset there are no secret societies at this school. He thought maybe none of them just wanted him, but he could still catch one in the act of secret society-ing. But Bobby (a legacy kid) told him there weren’t any.

-Obvs they start a secret society just for the fun of it. Since they can’t play music late at night without getting caught (then it’s not a Secret Society, Luke, you dumbass), their activities include Sneaking, Stealing Snacks, Trying To Find Bigfoot and/or Mothman in the woods, and picnics on the roof. But while wearing dramatic hoods and holding (fake, battery-powered, Alex does not trust these goofballs with fire) candles and stuff.

Winter/X-mas Prompts #6: Pretending to be a dragon when breathing out steam in the cold air, Willie pairing of your choice

From his perch on the mountain, the dragon surveilled the kingdom. Sure, they sent knights to try and get rid of him, to chase him away, but he would not budge. He breathed fire at anyone who got too close, roaring (and kicking) when necessary. Dragons were big and strong and could go wherever they wanted, fly far far away from anyone who was mean to them.

"William, I said come down, right now!" the social worker shouted at him.

Willie roared, breathing fire at her. The monkey bars were icy under his bare hands, but he wasn't coming down. He didn't want to meet any new parents for Parents Day. They never liked him anyway. He was too loud and too weird and too fidgety and he never gave the right answers to their questions.

So instead, he was a dragon. Dragons were solitary creatures who didn't need anyone, anyway. The steam of his breath in the cold air obscured the face of the scowling social worker, and he grinned triumphantly. "Dragons don't need to come down," he told her haughtily. “They live way up in the mountains.” Besides, he had two stolen candy bars in his pockets, he could even skip lunch if he had to. And if they sent him to bed without dinner, he had another stash they hadn't found yet.

"What horde are you protecting?" Someone behind him asked. He whirled around on the top of the monkey bars, gripping them tightly to avoid falling even though the cold metal kind of hurt.

"What's a horde?" Willie asked, curious. The man was wearing a coat that looked almost like a cape, and Willie could see the bright purple lining on the inside. He looked like he'd know a lot about dragons.

"Dragons always collect things they like most, and keep it in a great big pile that they protect," the man explained. "That's their horde. What is yours?"

Willie thought about it. The man didn't seem annoyed he didn't answer immediately, like the Parents did. "Skateboards," he said. He's always wanted a skateboard. Some of the older kids had them, but they hardly ever shared, and they laughed when he fell over. "And Mars bars."

The man nodded sagely. "That sounds like a horde worth protecting," he said. He looked at the social worker. "This one," he said, and Willie nearly fell off the monkey bars when he realised what the man meant.

He'd been picked. He hadn't even been trying, and he'd finally been picked. It turned out he did know how to answer questions right, as long as they were the right questions.

The lovely @bananakarenina tagged me in this. Go read her stuff it’s all so good.

Rules: post the first lines of your last 10 fics posted to ao3. if you have less than 10 fics posted, post the first lines of all your fics.

Funnily enough, The Care And Feeding Of Dragons, aka the ‘Little Dragon Willie and his maybe-probably-a-vampire foster dad Caleb’ universe is exactly 10 parts long, so... I put them in reverse order, starting at ten (so part one) for extra readability.

1. From his perch on the mountain, the dragon surveyed the kingdom. (Little Dragon)

2. Staring up at the big house, Willie was absolutely sure of it: his new foster dad was a vampire. (I Know What You Are)

3. He’d been working in his office, going over the new menu for the club, when Willie knocked on the open door. (A Dragon By Any Other Name)

4. When he got home from school, Lancelot was sitting on the chair in the living room just where he left him. (A Vampire By Any Other Name)

5. He wasn’t entirely sure what woke him up, sitting up straight in bed in the middle of the night. (How Hard Can It Be?)

6. Ever since his dad took him in, Willie had never had a store-bought costume for Halloween. (That feel when you find out your dad isn't a vampire)

7. Sophie had mocked him endlessly, telling him ‘I told you so’, but Caleb had to admit the teen years were… a lot. (Heartbreak)

9. “Dad, I’m home!” the call came from the hall, and Caleb moved from where he was making dinner to greet his son. (Plan B, C, D, and M)

Willex soulmate au (depending on the depth of the soulmate connection you can usually get impressions of your soulmate's emotions if they're running high, sometimes get a moment of seeing through their eyes. Rare experiences of actual body switching moments have been recorded. Alex's anxiety causes body switching in moments of acute "I don't want to be here/deal with this" :D)

-It starts when Alex is young and upset and is trying not to be because he's a big kid at school now and big kids aren't supposed to cry when they fall and hurt their knee because then the even bigger kids will make fun of them and Luke can't get another detention trying to fight someone.

He's trying not to cry, when all of a sudden he feels a burst of happiness both in his chest and somehow far away. He has his eyes squeezed shut and sees a flash of feet, of sky, feels like he's soaring.

He doesn't feel upset after that.

-Somewhere far away, Willie lands in a heap on the sand, laughing from where he jumped off the swings at the highest point. He can feel the upset leaving his soulmate, and if Uncle Caleb sighs about the state of his clothes when he gets home, it doesn't matter.

-Okay so body switching is supposed to be rare. In the fairy tales, it's in times of grave danger that the lovers swap places and defeat whatever evil is keeping them apart.

-NOT WHEN YOU HAVE ANXIETY APPARENTLY. Willie learns a lot about Alex starting when he's thirteen. He tries to keep it a secret when he's in classes, taking notes for Alex because else he'll be MORE anxious when he gets back, but also doodling little hearts and silly things in the margins.

-Alex' parents can't tell when he and Willie switch, but Reggie always can. Bobby's 50/50, but Alex once wrote him a little note he's also accused Alex of being Willie at random times when he was just being himself. Luke can only when they're playing music because Willie can't drum for shit.

-Alex is terrified, especially when they switch out when Willie is with Caleb. Because Caleb is scary and imposing and also Alex kind of feels in awe of him because he's so confident and gay and sparkly and himself.

-Caleb catches on after like, two or three times because whenever Alex is around, Willie's smart mouth disappears and he goes all quiet. He spends the first two times after that grilling Alex about who he is which DOES NOT HELP the anxiety. The next few times after that he's nice though, and they talk about music, and art, and Being Gay With Disapproving Parents.

-At night, if Alex is worrying, Willie sneaks out of the house to skateboard and tries to send feelings of freedom and joy his way.

-Similarly, if Willie is upset, Alex gets out his drums and whales on them, or puts on his walkman and dances up a storm.

-Sometimes Alex is just dreamily sitting there with his eyes closed while the guys rag him about Willie, but he doesn't care because Willie is so damn happy it makes him happy too.

-Alex wasn't there for most of his parent's reaction to his coming out. Willie wrote it down for him, and got pretty concerned when he only switched back like two hours later. He spent the entire time with his (Alex') head held high while silently thinking: wow you people suck.

-The one time Alex swapped with Willie and immediately said 'no no no we have a gig in five minutes' and Caleb dragged him somewhere quiet and made him do breathing exercises. He made the gig.

-One time they got caught in a loop of rapidly switching back and forth because Alex was anxious about something but Willie had just jumped into a shopping cart at the top of a very large and steep hill to go wheeee.
