The Diary of a Nobody (BBC, 1964)
"In the evening, Cummings unexpectedly dropped in to show me a meerschaum pipe he had won in a raffle in the city and told me to handle it carefully, as it would spoil the colouring if the hand was moist. He said he would not stay, as he did not care much for the smell of paint, and fell over the scraper as he went out. Must get the scraper removed - or else I shall get into a scrape. I don't often make jokes."

The Unsolved Murder of Lynne Weedon
Tumblr media
Lynne Weedon was a 16 year old school girl, she had recently finished her exams, she lived with her family in London.
On 3rd September 1975, Lynne went to a local pub with friends to celebrate her O-Level results. She left the pub to return home at around 11pm, walking part of the way with her friends before continuing the journey alone. On her way home, Lynne walked through an alleyway named Short Hedges, the alleyway had a reputation for prowlers and Lynne did not usually walk this way but for some reason she decided to go through as a shortcut. In the alleyway, at around 11.20pm, Lynne was struck with a heavy object over the head and lifted over the gates into a power substation grounds. Lynne’s attacker then raped her. Lynne was discovered the next morning by a passerby, she was still alive despite her skull being fractured in the attack and was rushed to hospital. Lynne died a week later in hospital without ever gaining consciousness.
Witnesses described a white male walking down the alleyway and running across the road into the alleyway at about the time Lynne was murdered, this was thought to have been Lynne’s attacker. Despite these sightings police were unable to find any conclusive evidence about who had attacked Lynne and the case went cold.
In 2004, Lynne’s murder was re-opened as part of a cold case review. In 2007, new DNA technology was able to link Lynne’s murder to another murder in the area that had happened around 6 months before- the violent attack on Eve Stratford (link to post). 16 suspects in the murders had their DNA taken but none were a match. It was noted that both murders were sexually motivated and that the killer had taken the weapon to the scene, and removed it after murdering the young women. Investigators also believe that it is unlikely the killer only committed these two crimes and likely had other victims both before and after the murders of Eve and Lynne.
On 25th March 2015, on the 40th anniversary of Eve Stratford’s murder, police launched a fresh appeal and both murders were featured on crime watch with £40,000 reward money being offered. Police stated the killer would have good knowledge of the alleyway in which Lynne was attacked and that it was likely the killer was a white male aged between 17 and 30 at the time.
The murders have also been linked to the unsolved murders of Elizabeth Parravincina in 1977 and Patsy Morris in 1980.
Amateur crime investigations suggested Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper, could have been responsible for the murders however as the DNA profile of Eve and Lynne’s murderer is on file, as is Sutcliffe’s, this has since been disproved.

Wedding Day

On our wedding day it was warm, windy and threatening rain, just like today. You can tell by the way the wind pushes our hair back. This is us, November 5, 1977.
