i dont follow u here but i followed u back before downsizin , but i like to come to ur blog to get other perspectives when my dash is being dramatic, and its always VERY good points abt VERY true things, like recently with wilbur - not defending him but pointing out both the fixation on him as 'evil' rather than uplifting shubble, and the subsequent dehumanization- i dont get tons of it on my dash but get enough to be glad to have somewhere with . a different perspective so I dont get stuck in the gunk of fandom . and then i saw ppl talking abt qsmp melting, so i rolled by here to see an Actual perspective instead of . the wider fandom , and its still banger points - the double standards and the very very valid question.of . who the hell are these 'higher ups' . this is quackitys smp . who is 'actually' in charge.? and i didnt hear ANYTHING abt 'we need money or qsmp will be shut down' bc that is an absolutely RANCID thing to say and im gonna go . look into where that statement is from lol to see how sugarcoated or whatever it is (if u have like a source or whatever ? like did someone stream or post ? ill hunt it down either way lol) and i cant . HELLO.... 'give us money or we shut down' WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO ALL THE MONEY YOUVE BEEN MAKING? what kinda corporate hellscape bs .... uagh . why would u make a project u cant support on your own ? relying on viewers for money to keep this thing going with so many people involved? theres no way theres not enough money if this is an honest thing . ok im gonna go look at stuff but its annoying as hell ty for perspective on things my dash can be . bad abt <3
so I want to be clear this is what I was referencing:
it's not a direct 'give us money or we shut down' but I've already seen people begging Q to sell more qsmp merch so they can support the server which is exactly what I knew was going to happen lol. 'if I don't have money to cover the project the project will end' is a very sensible approach (how else do you want to run a project after all? by not paying the people lol?) but it's also a clear signal to the fanbase, fully conscious or not.
and I am not saying there's anything wrong with wanting to support the project you're passionate about as a fan! but there is something to be said about the business decisions being made in the quackland, considering there's already issues with current merch he's selling never being delivered and the fact that, well, again. if he never noticed people working for him were not compensated AND apparently he said that he's already losing money on the qsmp (I don't have direct source for this one I heard this from my friends)...well. where's the money going man. are people scamming you behind your back, are you this negligent to not know what's going on in your own companies, or are you lying to everyone to cover your own ass?
*sigh*
here's the thing. q is evidently under stupid amounts of stress and we have seen this ever since he started ghosting everyone and pivoted the qsmp from the original vision as presented to us in the beautifully animated intro video to the low quality 'hi we're a worldwide server now' announcement. we don't know why that is, despite the obvious things we can assume. and on a human level I am concerned for him. on any other level than that, well, I just have to ask WHAT IN THE FRESHEST OF HELLS WERE YOU DOING THIS WHOLE YEAR TO LET THINGS COME TO THIS YOU POOR EXCUSE OF A BUSINESSMAN.

Grimm Variations - Episode One Review: Cinderella
Ok, starting with the heavy hitter aren't we Grimm Variations? Really have that much confidence in yourself in spite of your kinda ugly art direction? Ok. Alright. I see how it is.
GATHER 👏 ROUND 👏 CHILDREN 👏 LET'S 👏 TALK 👏 ABOUT 👏 GOOD 👏 VS 👏 BAD 👏 SUBVERSION 👏 SLASH 👏 DARK 👏 TAKES.
This is actually a pretty fascinating example, since it has both cases simultaneously.
(sorry for the shitty gif, I don't know how to reduce size without sacrificing quality)
Let's start from the beginning: This version of Cinderella takes place somewhen at the intersection of the Meiji and Showa Periods in Japan, which is to say in the Roaring 20's. Instead of our usual protagonist, the story centers on Makiko and Sawako our prospective Evil Stepsisters, as their mother Tsuruko, a former geisha, marries Viscount Otawara, who has a single daughter: Kyoko. Kyoko enthusiastically welcomes her new family with open arms, even gifting precious things to her new sisters, who clearly love the luxuries of the social ladder that they've climbed. However things take a turn for the dark as Kyoko starts manipulating everyone around the house with wounded gazelle gambits to convince them that her sisters are mistreating her and usurping her place. The story thus becomes about Makiko and Sawako going to the ball (hosted by a count's son) to try and escape their Evil Little Stepsister.
There's also some background stuff at the start of the episode about the brothers grimm and that little girl Charlotte up there, who appears as a living doll of Kyoko's, but since none of that is explained here we're just gonna focus on what this dark take says thematically about the tale of Cinderella.
Right from the beginning the overturn starts when the first scene makes it clear that Cinderella's dad holds all the power in the relationship with the Evil Stepmother, whereas the Grimm and Perrault versions make her the one wearing the pants. It's never explicitly stated in either of them, but it's natural to infer that the Stepmother is of a higher peerage than Cinderella's Dad to explain how she would hold power over him and his daughter when trying to rationalize the story, and it's a common plot point in adaptations. However, this alone a subversion does not make. After all, if you read trashy romance in aristocratic settings (like I do), you know that it is extremely common for social climbers to be presented as sniveling usurpers, who get arrogant and greedy and turn into bullies the moment they have a modicum of luxury and rank in spite of their Inferior Manners (unless they are the protagonist of course). Lots of Cinderella stories follow that formula.
And that's exactly what Kyoko uses against her stepsisters.
Makiko and Sawako are stupid. If their unrefined manners are forgivable and a simple matter of environment and time, the way they openly slobber over and covet the riches of their new house makes them no favors. When they think one of the servants stole jewelry from them (and it was a piece that Kyoko had given them at that) they immediately get angry and physically aggressive towards a person whom they were equal in rank perhaps mere days ago. It takes them too long to stop and realize that hey, no servant would openly flaunt a piece they'd stolen from their master, so maybe something else is afoot, but by then it's too late. The other servants of the house can no longer trust them, so of course they continually take the side of the poor, defenseless little mistress Kyoko.
The tale so turns into an interesting mix of one-part hitchcokean aristocratic horror-thriller, impulsed in part by the flaws of the protagonists, and I'd say around a quarter-part view into the hypocrisies of class. Makiko and Sawako's refusal to engage with the servants with respect and compassion, trying to act the rank they've ascended to, cuts them from a support network, even as they are handed wealth and luxury. However it is undeniable that because of their lowly origins and etiquette people view them with scorn, distrust, and antipathy, a fact that is driven home when they are the ones who get mean whispers and comments upon entering the ball. They don't stop from being victims in the narrative just because they aren't likeable. By contrast, Kyoko may wear old plain clothes and do house work, but because she's nice to the staff and is seen as the legitimate blood heir, everyone looks at her with compassion and chucks her unnaturally cheery disposition towards her circumstances to good breeding, to the point that she gets away with poisoning her stepmother for years until she dies.
Likewise, at the scene of the ball the sisters fail spectacularly at captivating their prospective Prince with their uncouth behavior, so all our Cinderella has to do is be pretty and make a scene in front of everyone for things to take its predestined course. Tsuruko dies that night thanks to her stepdaughter forcibly feeding her one last cup of bleach before she leaves. And even though everybody witnesses the sisters grieving over their mother's corpse, nobody has sympathy for them the next day, when Makiko becomes the head of the family at Kyoko's (clearly secret) behest. The moment the Prince appears and declares his intention to marry Kyoko, Makiko and Sawako are expediently given the boot to the ass and thrown out of the house. Thus both of them are forever expelled from aristocratic society... and forever free from Kyoko.
Cinderella has followed her usual course of ascending to a higher to a social strata while reclaiming her lost position thanks to the intervention of a powerful man... But it's the Evil Stepsisters who have escaped an abusive situation by leaving the comforts of status behind, which goes very specifically against the message the original story gives. What's more this is due to their own character development: they knew that Kyoko would sabotage them if they tried to escape her via marriage, so they baited her into pulling a stunt and deliberately sabotaged their own chances with the Prince so that he would take her away from them.
THAT, my guys, is actual subversion. THAT is commentary. It's impeccably brilliant...! Or at least it would be were it not for the biggest flaw in the story: Cinderella herself.
Near the end of the first act the sisters try to warn their mother about Kyoko's nefarious acts. Of course, she doesn't believe them. After all, she asks outloud, what does Kyoko get out of acting like that? It seems that the scriptwriter didn't realize that asking that question explicitly in dialogue would put it at the forefront of the audience's thoughts before the whole thing went into print.
I mean the script makes Kyoko talk about her family being her precious "dolls" or whatever but that explains absolutely jackshit when her attitude is so inconsistent. Keep in mind, this Cinderella kills her own dad when he unwittingly threatens to disturb her status quo and starts the second act by saying out loud that she fears the situation she's created might end, but after the sisters do succeed in suckering her she just goes "oh well :) thems the breaks" and it's implied she'll move on to torturing the Prince for shits and giggles and that's it.
Alas, however, I must be fair and truthful in my final assessments. I came into this series expecting vapid edginess and mediocrity and while it hasn't exactly disappointed on that front, it has just enough thematic juice to move into the tier I was most afraid of: trash but still good enough to be frustrating. Join me next week for more suffering if it keeps up this way.

Ok y'all, we gotta talk about precision in language for a second, because I'm noticing a trend in book spaces (mostly but not exclusively reviewer spaces) that is irksome AF. Reviewers have this weird tendency to say variations on "I expect my suspension of disbelief to be maintained" before saying something that honestly has less to do with suspension of disbelief than actual poor writing or pacing.
I have two issues with variations on expecting your suspension of disbelief to be maintained.
First: We need to talk about what suspension of disbelief is and whose responsibility it is. To paraphrase Geoffrey Tennant (from the criminally underappreciated Slings and Arrows) paraphrasing Samuel Taylor Coleridge, drama and storytelling functionally IS the willing suspension of disbelief for the moment. The word "willing" tends to get dropped from the understanding of suspension of disbelief these days, which opens authors (and other creators, but I fucking hate broadband terms like "creator" so for the purposes of this post, we're talking authors) to holding the entireity of the responsibility for suspension of disbelief.
This is incalculably stupid and not how anything works.
Authors have the responsibility of creating worlds, characters, and narratives. That's pretty much it. They build the sandbox, and we as readers play in it. But here's the thing: If we agree to play in the sandbox, then we also agree that "willing" is part of the deal. That means that we as readers have to meet authors AT LEAST halfway, and honestly I think it's more like 3/4 of the way where suspension of disbelief is concerned. Authors aren't in your heads, and they aren't going to tailor a book directly to what you believe, so you have to be willing to suspend the disbelief. You as a reader have to do at least half of that work.
Now having said that, I'm not about to say that there aren't immersion-breaking things in books sometimes or that there is no such thing as a bad book; none of that is true. But there is something so cynical and frightened of looking dumb in assuming that if an author isn't doing 100% of the work to suspend YOUR disbelief, then the author is in the wrong that it actually takes my breath away. Take responsibility for your part in the act of reading.
Second: Don't bitch about a lack of suspension of disbelief when what you actually mean is that you have a very legitimate complaint about the pacing or the writing or an incongruous use of language or a deus ex machina that you didn't like. Get specific with the problem you have with a book, and be precise about the issue and how it impacts the narrative. Quality and reading experience don't necissarily line up. I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed reading objectively poor-quality books, and I have found objectively high-quality texts an absolutely hideous experience to read (see every time I tried to read To the Lighthouse).
Very often when people say "I expected my suspension of disbelief to be maintained," they're eliding the reading experience with their assessment of the textual quality. Stop doing that. Be precise.

If you could make a movie of your LotR fics, which actors would you cast? I know you'll keep Brad Dourif as Grima - would you change anyone else? Still go with Viggo for Aragorn, Sean for Boromir etc?
Also, if there was flashback scenes that included Theodred, who would you use for that role? Movie guy had like, two scenes, and we barely got to see his face.

I mean, if we're talking about the actors as they are today I suppose Brad's age of 73 would actually align better with what Tolkien had in mind when he wrote Grima (described as: "a wizened figure of a man with a pale, wise face and heavy-lidded eyes"), rather than middle-aged Brad from the early 2000s ;)
For modern actors, I've no idea who I would choose for Grima. Someone suitably weird looking. Not off-puttingly vile, but just disconcerting. He'd need a proper snake-vibe. I like him having certain animal-esque/evil fey-ish qualities, but they need to be done right.
Also he can't be sexy. No Loki-isn't-traditionally-handsome-in-a-greek-statue-sort-of-way-but-he's-still-unquestionably-good-looking bullshit. None of that. He needs to be disconcerting and weird.
Oh I would keep Grima having dark eyes, as they're described in the book. Because I think it adds a nice level of spookiness to him just having eerily dark inkwells as iris'.
Grima needs to look like he's reading your mind (and possibly stripping you, but not in a sexy way) with his eyeballs.
I have issues with how Peter Jackson chose to portray Grima, because the approach doesn't really make sense for the character and the position he occupies in the King's court, but I did appreciate that he wasn't sexy and that needs to be maintained.
As for everyone else? Honestly, I'd likely redo the entire cast. Some of it is for racial diversity reasons (Aragorn, Legolas, Elrond, maybe Boromir etc.) and others is just down to my thinking other people would be a better fit (Eomer, Eowyn, Arwen, Boromir again, Gimli etc.)
I feel like Dev Patel would need to be in it. Maybe as Legolas.

I think it's easier to do this by people I'd keep/invent time travel and/or necromancy-that-works to have their early 2000s selves reprise the role:
Bernard Hill - Theoden
Ian Holm - Bilbo
Cate Blanchette - Galadriel
Ian McKellen - Gandalf
Christopher Lee - Saruman
I'm 50/50 on the hobbits and their actors, all of whom I like, but I feel that there are better fits for them? Also, again, we can have more diversity.

There absolutely would be flashbacks with Theodred and I would pick someone more appropriate age wise since he's in his 40s, like Boromir, and whoever they had in the movies was too young.
There'd be some fun scenes of Theodred being like: I don't need to marry, I'm still young, there's plenty of time for heirs and spares. Then Grima just stares into the camera like he's on the office. Holds up a chart that shows the growth of Sauron's power. Theodred is like "eh, it's fine."
In another deep flashback scene:
Grima saddles up to Eomer: Have you thought about marriage yet?
Eomer: I'm twenty-two.
Grima: You say that like it matters? Your cousin isn't being helpful and the House of Eorl doesn't make many children, on the whole, and you all drop like flies in your thirties due to being way too adrenaline addicted and prone to poor life choices. Someone. Needs. To. Make. An. Heir.
Eomer: There's plenty of time.
Cue five years later:
Grima: Theodred's dead. So sad. May Middle Earth's smallest violin play at his wake.
Eomer: I'm. hmmm. Yes. Ok, I see what you meant five years ago about us all dropping like flies in our prime.
Grima: Your father going off with too few men to fight a bunch of orcs didn't clue you in to this tendency? Literally. Your entire family's history? Just. Somehow. Didn't clue you in? But never mind, so sad, too late now though. Quick, go fight some orcs.
Eomer squints at him suspiciously.
Grima does finger guns and walks away.

Where if you're able to be like "this food is not good in the sense of, if I'm trying to lose weight or if I'm trying to be my healthiest self, this food is not the best choice for me, while in--while in turn, this food might be a better choice," that's OK.
I, I think, personally, right? Just being able to be like, okay, this is a--eating this salad is a better choice than eating, you know, four pounds of fries and a burger for dinner.
Right? Like being able to do that. Where if you put the moral on it where "if you eat this, you are then a bad person and it makes you a failure," that's where it can be really dangerous.
That's where I would say you have to be careful. Again, not necessarily saying I disagree with it, but just sharing a different perspective.

I see it more like he does, I think. Calling a food bad isn't calling a person bad.
Food is an object, like a purse or a rock. "Jimmy is holding a BAD ROCK" doesn't automatically imply "Jimmy is bad," unless we then assert that Jimmy likes the bad rock for reasons that reveal some kind of badness within himself.
Like, someone who smokes is drawn to something that is full-stop unarguably bad (in the sense of "unhealthful") in ways even a very large cheeseburger is not, but a nuanced view of addiction says that this is not because the addicted person is bad. This is because addiction makes not using a bad thing difficult or impossible.
(And to me even calling a food bad isn't necessarily moral--it can be, but bad also means poor quality or bad at being a food/doing the things food does, which aren't moral issues in and of themselves.)

hello. hi! how's it going out there in the world?
i'm starting this blog as a diary into the universe...and i am truly not quite sure where to really begin. i guess we could start at the beginning...
since the dawn of time...
ok not that early.
but my beginning...
in 2003, a child was born. to a couple (who would later get divorced) (but that doesn't really matter)...with two siblings; i grew up well. we were poor but i was very happy. all the time. my mom is my hero, my dad is my rockstar and i loved my sister and playing with barbies, and i loved my brother and watching him play GTA. my most memorable moments would be in my elementary years where i had the most fun.
fast forward 20.5 years later and here i am. surfing the technology waves at my fingertips and trying to find my way...i am not as lost as i used to be when i would first blog like this and i am fairly certain no one will ever read this and for that i am ok with,
i just want to freely talk--and anonymously--because GOD, i am sick of being the face of all the stuff i talk about. i fear (but with no actual phobia or any sort) that i may be one of the very few 20 year olds who has now deleted instagram and snapchat. i am sick of all the social media, if we're being honest. i don't want to search for what i think i should be or shouldn't be in others. i just want to beeeeeeeee....so here i am. being.
my current state of being is a college student, a freshman at my local community college and i do not care how dorky it is i LOVE IT! i love learning, meeting all these new people, and gaining all these new experiences. i am an art major and so far, i have loved all the classes i have taken (except for my Spanish prof...i'm looking at you Jerry.) but the plus side to all of this (besides a degree and a career possibly) is i met the love of my life about 6 months ago.
in the throes of my very first semester at college i took a geology class--sorta on a limb? it was between that and taking a less interesting sounding science credit, but boy was it the best decision of my life. meeting my boyfriend has pointed me in the furthest positive direction i have ever seen my life form into;
i eat (almost each day) 3 times every day! i wake up with wonder & hope again, i do my homework, i have love in my life AND i am reading again...which i am sure i will blog lots about. i am on my 7th book of the 2024 year (though i may abandon it...see Discussion of Books post, which i'm sure i'll do..)
mainly what i am seeking from this blog is to let out the passions, put my aspirations out there and find quality content in a safer space than where all my ghosts from my past may jump out at me on Instagram and Snapchat...uggggghhhhhh....
a digital diary. a discussion post for myself (and others if they so wish). and a safe space for life, love and happiness (cringe, whateva)

So the long and short of it is that, unfortunately for folks like me who hate doing anything new in person, you're going to have to go into a store if you want anything worth the time or money.
Now, I'm going to start by saying that these boots, if you get them from the right places, will be an investment. I say this because you're going to walk in that store, see the price, and walk right back out. But if I may remind you of the Vimes Theory of Boots:
The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.
Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. But once that knee-jerk instinct of "I can't spend that much on boots" gets out of the way, you will find yourself in potential possession of the longest lasting, most comfortable pair of boots you'll be able to find. They're made for working in, even the fancy-looking ones. They're not marked up for bougie reasons, they're fairly priced because they're good quality and well-made, kind of like a crocheted blanket from someone who hand-makes them.
"But why does that mean I have to go into the store?" Well, I'll tell you: because the sizing is going to depend on your feet. 'Standard' sizing for shoes is wonky at the best of times, and if this is a purchase you're going to be spending upwards of $100 on, you want to make sure they fit.
as for the actual answer to your question: Tack shops.
Generally speaking, you can google "western shop" and generally find a couple of good options, but there are some near me that turned out to be uhh.... how do I say this... the city's idea of what country clothes look like. we're talking flannel that I could put my finger through, 150-buck jeans with rhinestones on the ass, for those moments you just decide that you never want to sit comfortably again. That sort of thing.
On the other hand! You know who's never going to bullshit about what they are? A shop specifically for horse riding.
There's a tack shop near me, because the city I live in is the perfect intersection of "bumfuck nowhere" and "fifteen minutes from everything" so we've got all the amenities, such as a Fred Meyer and neighbors with horses. (However, thanks to the house I live in, we can't get delivery OR ambulance service, so wish me luck the next time I fall down the stairs.) If it wouldn't basically doxx me, I'd share the name of the store, because I had such a pleasant experience there!
Depending on where you live, nonny, you might be able to find loads of places that sell good ones! When I lived in WY, they were uhh,, everywhere. Everyone sold them, because everyone needed them. But we also had a library that a nerdy kid could read through like blazes, so that should tell you the sort of town I lived in. (Small. It was small.) When I lived in Boise... not so much!
A good rule of thumb, though, is to check the brands. Unlike most other things, you're not paying for the label, the brands are known because they're trusted to be good. Check for things by Ariat or Tecovas, for example.
And don't be afraid to ask the folks at your western or tack shop, because they will be genuinely delighted to help you. I've never met nicer people than those that work in tack shops. They'll help you decide, for example, what height you want (ankle, calf, knee, etc.), what tip type (Square, rounded, snip, broad, etc.), and what style! (That's just if you want something with a fun pattern, something for riding, or something for everyday wear).
I wear mine at least once a week, and they were comfortable enough to wear out of the store and haven't had any of the usual "breaking in new shoes" problems that folks are wary of (It's me, I'm folks, I literally have scars from pairs of flats lol).
anyway, that's kind of a long, convoluted answer to say: it depends! If you've got more specific questions, though, I'm more than happy to help there as well.

A big reason people don't drink still water is because the regular tap water is poor quality. Of course it's different between regions within a country. I've heard about American exchange students who've asked "Are you sure it's ok to drink water directly from the tap?" when they've been in Sweden. They have great tap water.
I get that but you realise that you have to buy sparkling water, right? So the pure, good quality still water is right next to it at the store. Also we're mostly talking Germany or other central european countries, most of them have very good tap water
In any case I meant taste preference, not what's accessible to people 😂 not gonna judge you if you have no access to something, I'm not a dick

Lots of talk about last names right now so here's mine. My family was running from Russia and were trying to get into Canada. Russians were not allowed to immigrate to Canada at the time. They got fake papers. They were poor farmers so they were low quality papers. And the last name on them I hope is not a real last name. It looks like someone just made a German looking last name having never actually met a German. They get to the Canadian boarder and they took one look at the fake last name and went no. You're German? You're last name is now Wagner. Here's the thing no one knows what the original real last name was. Or if they even had last names. Cause they just went ok we're the Wagners now. And this happened to every group that crossed together except they all got different last names! Miller, Muller, Wagner, Wigner, Wringer... So now my family tree looks like a mess cause no ones last name matches.

Snowpiercer S3E10 thoughts: and then there were two
OH BOY I CANT EVEN PUT MY THOUGHTS COHERENTLY TOGETHER.
This episode was so powerful. And I mean SO powerful. The most Snowpiercer episode and the best episode of the season, hands down (sorry episode 9 my beloved). I got chills and teared up at at least three moments, and so did my mum (who am I kidding, my mum was crying throughout 90% of the episode because she's a softie and I love her).
Oh boy. Ok so, let me dispell with the "negative" comments first, but I thought the turn from "let's fight" to "ok let's separate the trains because we're good friends and we love each other 🥰" was a bit too sudden. It kinda felt like it came out of nowhere, but I can see they had limited time and had to work with what they got, and that the Wilford plan acted as the catalyst.
Second negative comment was whatever the fuck happened with LJ, it felt stupid and while I was devastated when I heard she dies in this episode, I just... didn't feel anything in that moment. It really felt shoehorned in, like the actress got a new deal for another project or sth and the writers were like "oh fuck, we gotta kill her character off so that the actress will be free to do that other more important thing". Anyway, goodbye LJ, my little beautiful psycho bridezilla. Os will miss you and so will I.
ANYWAY. On to the good stuff. Where do I even start? Oh yes, I know. Ruth going with Melanie. Ruth saying "I'm coming with you, I can't leave you to do this on your own can I?". Ruth being willing to stick by Melanie's side, until she brought up Wilford. Like. That was so painful and beautiful in so many ways. "I've redeemed myself too far to go back to this" YES GIRL YOU HAVE AND I'M SO SO PROUD OF YOU. Ruth gets better and better with every struggle, she's literally one of the best, if not the best, written characters in the show, and Alison Wright is a goddess and I will stand by that no matter what.
And yes that's me pushing my MelRuth agenda, especially WITH THE PIN SCENE WHERE RUTH TURNS TRISTAN'S PIN TO AN M AND IT BEING A DIRECT CALLBACK TO S1 OH MY G O D. I got chills. My mum got chills. She doesn't even ship MelRuth (hardcore MelBen stan, lucky her), but she teared up at that. It was beautiful.
Also so proud for Tristan!!!! He moved up from being a meek, anxious underdog to being the head of Hospitality!!! He's so brave and I'm so proud of him and I hope we see more of him in S4.
Now on Boki... My poor man. My baby. He's so broken but when they were all cheering his name like in S1 he smiled 😭😭 and then his scene with Headwood... She's like his mother in that scene I love it. He protecc. If only he hadn't yeeted poor Os like that.
Alex my sweet baby angel... I don't have much to say for her other than that I just love her and I'm happy she made her own choices even if the goodbye scene with Mel ruined me.
So uh... Wilford's out for now, which is a pity bc legit Sean Bean is one of the stars of this show, really bringing some higher quality to it. But then again, he is Sean Bean, so, he's already lasted more than I thought a Sean Bean character would.
No I'm not done talking about Ruth and I never will. The scene where she smacks Boki with a shovel and he turns and glares her down and she's like "mistakes have been made". I laughed so hard. I love this trope of a small(ish) character hitting a big scary immune-to-damage character and the second not even flinching, and the first character realising that "huh, I done fucked up".
ALSO RUTH REUNITING WITH HER RAT BUDDY FROM THE REBEL DAYS. I want to see her keep the rat as a pet in S4. I want her to name him Jimminy.
Ok on to the next thing that I'm gonna talk about for 5 hours: BESS AND TILL MY BEAUTIFUL LESBIANS I LOVE YOU SO MUCH THIS IS HONESTLY THE BEST CANON SHIP IN THE SHOW IDC IDC.
I thought up until the last moment that Audrey would betray Till for Wilford, I really did. And when I realised that she was free of his brainwashing and abuse? It was literally perfect. My heart ached for her, and she did finally come full cycle, she came back to who she truly was and what she did best, and I am so proud of her.
No really because she and Till bring out the best in each other and are really two perfect halves of a perfect whole, they helped find each other and it's just. Beautiful. They invented Soulmatism.
Till running to Audrey in the last possible moment before the separation?? Layton being happy for her and letting her go??? Honestly PERFECTION.
On to a few smaller comments: Miles my sweet baby son. He's grown so much. I literally love him more than anything and can't wait to see him be a kid with Alex and Carly. The goodbye scene with him and Josie and Layton was so beautiful and sad.
Josie and Layton FINALLY being together. That's the only good ship for Layton ever idc.
Ben and Javi... "Adiós amigo...."... I'm not okay...
BEN AND MEL..... LISTEN. Listen I am a MelRuth simp. But BenMel ticks all my favourite m/f ship boxes too and, well, I am a weak bi™. I'm so glad he stayed with her. I know they'll take care of each other... I love them both so much.
Oh another negative thing I gotta say is that Layton...bestie...calm down... Nobody's forcing y'all back into the Tail... Melanie literally only said "hey let's take some time to assess the risks properly and not cross a very dangerous track based on hope alone"... Anyway at least he came around in the end I guess.
And now to them getting out of the train.... That scene needed colour correction, saturation and contrast adjustments SO BAD. The cgi train looked better than the real-ass location they filmed this in. But also seeing everyone being so happy and playing around in the sun and water and earth... Bless their souls. So happy for them!!!
And last but not least... That cliffhanger. What the FUCK was that. What the ACTUAL FUCK. Who's throwing nukes???? Why is Melanie heading there???? What is happening???? Whomst??? What??? How??? QUE LE FUCK????
Also I was about to type "see you next week" and then I realised there's not gonna be a new episode next week... My heart broke a little and I am emotional. But hey, this was a great ending to S3, and S4 is confirmed, so, see you next season for more commentary, and of course, I'll always be around for headcanons and theories and crazy thoughts about everyone's favourite train idiots! So, until season 4, everyone! 💖

I for one am totally down for the recent daddy kink/brocon Renaissance. Bring it on.
Ok but, I'm not sure yall have realized the potential of the whole younger Ragvindr sib thing, bc you don't just get one big bro out of that, you get two. There are multiple ways you can go with this. Consider the other anons Ragvindr sib ask. But like Kaeya obviously knows about you and mayhap have gotten a bit too attached. And we all know that Kaeya loves to have all the information and also loves messing with his step-bro. So like, he sneaks in while Dliuc is out one day and is just like "I know what Diluc does to you, why do you let him get away with that, sis?" And darling is like "Diluc-onii-san said that he's the most worthy man for me, the one that knows me and will take care of me best, cause he's my big bro." To which Kaeya smirks and is all like, "You know, I'm also your big bro, doesn't that mean I should have the same privileges too?" And poor naive stupid darling can't argue with that logic so she let's him f*ck her. After that I can see one of two things happening, either Kaeya kidnaps you right out from under Dilucs nose, or, because he is a bastard man, he waits in like a spare bedroom or smthn for Diluc to get back. Diluc gets back and greets his little sis and whatever, then goes to his office to do some paperwork, having his sis on his lap to cuddle her while he does it. He idly asks her how her day was, expecting her to say smthn about the chores she got done or the pretty bird she say from the window. Instead she's like "Kaeya-nii-san came by :)" and he just fucking snaps his pen in his hand. In steps Kaeya who proceeds to blackmail Diluc into letting him spend more 'quality time' with their precious baby sis or else he exposes what Diluc has been doing to the public. Cue reluctant darling sharing and Diluc getting increasingly pissed as his perfect little sis-wife starts talking about how great Kaeya-nii-san is, meanwhile Diluc knows he's only laying the charm on thick to try and usurp her from him completely. (Along with this, consider Kaeya taunting Diluc that he could theoretically legally get married to their Lil sis while Diluc can't)
Alternatively, lil sis siding with Kaeya after the death of their dad, moving out of the manor along with Kaeya, and Kaeya will not stop taunting Diluc about how she chose her step-bro over her real-bro and like, goes to the tavern while Diluc is working and like, quietly describes how good of a fuck she is and all the depraved things he's been doing to her. And Diluc not only doesn't wanna start a scene in the bar but also is like painfully aroused picturing his innocent lil sis that way, so he just continues listening and subtly jacking off even though inside he's seething
Or consider darling that is actually Kaeya's biological sis who gets adopted by Crepus along side him. Again we've got multiple ways this can go. Either Diluc manages to get her to stay with him under the guise of protecting her from whatever her nefarious brother is plotting, in which case it ends up a lot like the previous anons ask except with Diluc actually technically being able to marry her legally if he so chooses and Kaeya seething like "Diluc isn't worthy of her. (2/2) SORTA SPOILERS FOR KAEYA'S CHARACTER STORY AHEAD.
Now in the case where Kaeya's bio sis goes with him after the death of big dick daddy Crepus, in my mind this pairs nicely with a Kaeya as the Prince of Khaenri'ah AU. Kaeya in such an AU I feel like would have much more of a breeding kink than normal Kaeya. Consider him guilting you into sex like "Come on sis, our country is gone so we need to start making some more countrymen. It's for the good of Khaenri'ah, we have to if we want to bring it back to glory." Or him misleading you about the traditions. Just like "What do you mean its wrong and we can't because we're siblings? This is how it was done back in our homeland. If Khaenri'ah was still around, we'd be married by now. We are the last survivors of the royal family of our country. You want to do your part and preserve our legacy, don't you? Be my good little future queen?" I have some more thoughts on Khaenri'ah Prince AU Kaeya, but I'll save them for another day ;)
But, on a slightly different note, I feel like Kaeya would be a bit kinder to a darling that was his sibling than he would be to a normal darling. The change would be more significant if it was his bio sis than if it was his step-sis but either way, he probably treats her at least slightly better than he would a normal darling. Childe would also treat a sis!darling differently than he would a normal one, again kinder and less sadistic and cruel (at least outwardly). In fact I think Childe's difference between sis!darling and normal darling would probably be more significant/noticeable than Kaeya's. On the other hand Diluc treats both a normal and a sis darling more or less the same, though he might be even more protective of a sis darling, but the difference would be less in how he treats them themselves and more in his mindset/how strict his rules and her conditions are.

VLD rewatch s3e3
- this ep was intense
- Hunk is correct, attacking is a terrible idea
- (I'm about to talk about how great k+l's dynamic is) Voltron woulda fallen apart without Lance -- Keith, while very good at fighting and battle strategy, is terrible with people, and being good with people is kind of an important part of being a leader. Lance is usually good at people-ing -- he's not afraid to be front-and-center and will divert the attention when needed (ex: s1e1, when they are being scolded by Iverson and Lance makes Pidge stop talking while diverting Iverson's (negative) attention to himself; s3e1, when he diverts the (positive) attention to the BOM by forcing the people of Puig (is this name right?) to acknowledge that the BOM played a gigantic part in their liberation), not to mention he's usually good at reading the room in terms of people-needs -- and, while he's also very good at fighting, he has a very hard time staying focused on the objectives, which is usually what makes people not take him seriously. Keith and Lance are the perfect mixture of that when they can work together -- they balance each other's weaknesses perfectly

- i love that lance was, like, 100% pro supporting keith as a leader, and then keef decided that he was gonna be impulsive and he's like "ig we're back to antagonizing mullet-head", and ykw? I don't blame him, because keef is being a piece of shit
- u accepted to be the leader, keith, stop being a piece of crap -- there's a big fucking difference between leadership divergence and straight-up neglecting your team
- dam, i kinda love that both keith and allura are in denial here (and lance isn't)

- the best part about this is that we all knew they were doomed from the moment keith left the castle

- ok ok ok, so I'm one of those people who got stuck on "omg why didn't they let us have an offish description for the qualities in the blue lion's paladin" but, in a way, they did give it to us when they had allura say "i've tried asking you nicely, and i've tried commanding you (...) I can't control everything" and that's when blue responds to her. Because, really, that's what describes lance, isn't it? He goes with the flow and that's when he's at his best.
- also, i'm super bitter that they never used the "allura having to put herself in lance's place" thing again, that could've been a huge point for allurance and to show that (as the showrunners think) lance wasn't a rebound, allura had something growing before.

☕️ george lucas (derogatory) if we're talking about death of the author
ok, first, i know very little about george lucas as a person, and in general tend to focus on the actual world of star wars rather than the behind the scenes aspects
with that said, i think george lucas is a mediocre writer, occasionally very poor, whose works were saved by the brilliance of others. the quality of the prequel trilogy attests to his lack of skill without the intervention of others. nobody should have ever let lucas try to write anything more complex than the original trilogy’s cookie-cutter hero’s journey plot
i made a post on a similar topic recently, but it’s my opinion that star wars would be nothing without its editors, soundtracks, concept artists, set designers, costume designers, visual effects teams, crew, actors, who knows who else, and especially those writers who have extended the universe. i know this isn’t true for everyone, but i for one would not care at all about star wars if it weren’t for the universe extended outside lucas’ films.
even a new hope would never have been a cultural phenomenon if it weren’t for marcia lucas’ editing, the iconic visuals of ralph mcquarrie’s concept art, john williams’ soundtrack, and the contributions of so many more. star wars is nothing without them. and it’s absurd to give george lucas the credit for creating this universe with that in mind, when his interventions only ever seem to be marked by basic archetype characters and what is, in my view, a singular laziness, arrogance and lack of care for others’ contributions
