Lisa Loeb and Nine Stories - Tails
Tumblr media
Oh, Lisa Loeb, where to begin. I have nothing against the album or Lisa Loeb, mind you. In fact, I love her and this album. It's a set of beautiful songs that range from soft and relaxing to radio-oriented pop-rock. Not that any of this is bad. Songs like "Taffy" and "Waiting for Wednesday" are typical but fun songs that you can tell are Lisa and the band letting loose and having fun, taking a little from their grunge predecessors but keeping that singer-songwriter mentality. But then you have songs like "Sandalwood" and "Lisa Listen," where she has put passion and meaning into her lyrics and out look on the songs. And then there's "Stay (I Missed You)". While Tails wasn't released until 1995, "Stay" first appeared in the movie Reality Bites, and became a hit simply from that. It singlehandedly launched an entire genre of music into the mainstream: 90s coffee house rock, and musicians with an acoustic guitar on a small stage. The song features a soft acoustic guitar and Lisa's voice, with the full band kicking in to give the song a little rocking power. But the simplicity of the song - and the music video that accompanied it - are perfect and catchy and memorable. And that's really all we could ask from Lisa and her cat-eye glasses in the post-grunge era, soft music that helped everyone get over the death of Kurt Cobain and even out after the loud assault of Nirvana and Soundgarden and Pearl Jam.

Ultimate Comics: Spider-man #17
Yet another issue of everybody's new favorite Ultimate Spider-man, Miles Morales! We're still knee deep in the "United We Stand" story arc and I'm going to be brutally honest with everyone here: I don't really like it. I'm not saying its a bad story arc, its actually pretty interesting, but it really seems like the danger is lost without the other Ultimate comics.
I understand there's a war and the country is dividing itself and all the other things that are explained on the first page, but what doesn't translate is the urgency. The urgency of the entire story. I understand Miles' story, and it keeps me on the edge of my seat, but I just wish there was a bigger picture to occasionally draw from.

Who would win in a game of chess, Reed Richards or Bruce Wayne?
Oh, man.  That's a difficult one.  I assume we're not talking about Wayne's "Brucie" persona?  Because a 5 year-old in a blindfold might be able to beat him.
(I should also probably disclose my personal bias against Reed Richards.)
Firstly, I don't see them being friendly enough to play casually together without some other pretense.  I think Reed would win the game itself, though, not by a large margin.  But I also think that Bruce would agree to play with him in hopes of learning more about Reed's character and thinking pattern.  In that sense, I think he would be successful in achieving his objective.  And besides, I feel like you can tell a lot more about a person from how they win at chess than how they lose.
So I suppose I mean to say that I think Reed would win the physical game on the board, while Bruce would win the mental game.

Planetoid #4
Back with another issue of one of my favorite indie books. This comic is great and entirely done by one man, gotta give the guy credit, Ken Garing you rock.
The story is starting to unfold a bit more in this issue. All the characters have been introduced and now the adventure is underway. With a threat revealed and answer waiting to be found that means only one thing; epicness is coming.
I seriously can't wait for the next issue, and I hope that more of those frog people show up, they're my favorite.

Amazing Spider-man #699.1
As some of you may know, Morbius, the Living Vampire will be getting his own series starting next year. Seems a bit strange given the circumstances Peter Parker and Doc Ock find themselves in at the moment. I know Marbius has had a series or two in the past, but the timing seems a bit odd.
But maybe its just a red haring to make me think Peter will switch bodies with Morbius. Making Morbius Superior Spider-man and Peter Morbius, the Living Vampire. Only time will tell, but I know its going to be EPIC!

Amazing Spider-man #699
We're winding down to the end, everyone. There are only two issues left for Amazing Spider-man, afterwards we get an all new Superior Spider-man comic to venture into. Gotta say, I don't know how Peter is going to get out of this one.
Some of us think that Alpha is going to be Superior or maybe even the Spider-man 2099 guy, but I haven't seen any nods to them, so I doubt it.
This is one of those issues where everything we've known about the world of Spider-man is still true but they turn it on its head. I give Slott tons of kudos for pulling that off and cannot wait for the next issue, which is a .1 so maybe we'll get that nod afterall.

Catwoman #2
This is a series I started recently by request from my best friend Notsofreshfeeling, she told me is was brutal and had hot chicks in it. So you know I had to start reading it. I am so glad I did.
She wasn't kidding she she said it was brutal. It might be as if not more brutal than some of the indie comics I read (not as violent as Nancy in Hell or No place Like Home but definitely more intimate). We can all image how sexy this comic is: hot anti-hero in a skin tight leather suit. Yeah, its got all that and bit more skin.
This isn't an indie comic so don't expect nudity or decapitations, this is more of a well made main stream comic. I want to catch up on this series, so if any of you out there want to as well, jump on in - the water is fine.
