however i will say there's another thing i really like abt him:

his Range!

he has a v flexible face.. even with his neutral expression, you cant help but read a tinge of melancholy/pensiveness to it.

he deters people from getting too comfortable with him by acting crude, but no matter how unapproachable he looks you can't help but wonder if he's ok. seems like he's never content with himself.

just like karkat, anger gives him purpose = something to care about & react to. without it he can appear aimless/uncertain.

it's especially interesting when you compare him to aradia, who despite having endured a lot of shit, ends up enjoying the freedom of expanding her worldview, riding the unpredictable tide of the narrative and observing the changes. sollux... doesn't.

he doesn't like watching major things progress in a way he can't predict. the lack of certainty actually overwhelms him.

and it's pretty clear why; imagine the only reassurance you get after unknowingly killing ur gf is that "it needed to happen". the only way to appease that sort of emotional turmoil is by intellectualizing those events as inevitable and out of your control.

when you’re just a tool for the author, trying to sit out is just feeble self-preservation until you’re needed again. if you’re not called on stage to help/assist in some way, it feels like your presence spells doom (either you or someone else will get hurt). so you avoid Events as best you can.

AAA YES!!!!! Another resounding review and sign to GO READ Take the World by Storm by geokat!!!! It's probably the most ideal long running time travel au fic that I've read :)

Geokat rlly knows how to write a time travel story that caters to my interests, like I've read time travel fics (across many fandoms) that just rewrite the whole story's events, and it can feel kinda repetitive cause ur just experiencing the characters goin thru the same stuff again, but geokat acknowledges that the strawhats wouldn't want a repeat of the same adventure!!! It actually feels like it's own story rather than just a fix-it with geokat incorporating their own lil islands and adventures into this world :D They are really good at writing all the characters interacting with eachother and AND ANDDD I'm really glad you enjoyed it!!!

Though unfortunately, as much as I love long running fics as they have a lot of good build up, I am a very impatient person... WHICH IS WHY WE HAVE MY SPEEDRUN CRACK AU THAT BRANCHED OFF IT!!!!

Growing together AU:

Not that weird! Honestly, they'd still not get along lol.

Conrad always liked the spotlight so while he respected Percy growing up, he also wanted to be in charge and recognized. As an adult he'd be even more adamant on people paying attention when he wants them to because of growing with Percy, who wouldn't let any kid be above him in rank/importance. Also way less patience.

His love for pirates would remain, but it'd be more rebellious. More of a wild vibe than gentlemanly, and his hair would be longer as he had more time to grow it out.

Percy would also consider him a traitor, having switched from Lost Boys to Pirates. of all things! Conrad would've left with Tink too, which added sting to injury.
