Vodno Mountain above Skopje. May 2023
Drawn from the castle with one of many Macedonian flags flying all over the city. The Muezzins all over the city were calling to prayer.

Sunday activities. Went up on "Pionerska", met Vid, Tose & Jovan at "Sredno Vodno", continued together to the top with the gondola and rode down "Balkanijada". Parted ways after Nerezi, pumped down on "Adrenalinska". Encountered Tako along the way! #awesome :) #mtblife #vodno #skopje #macedonia (at Mount Vodno) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cd3QPuyIwoK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Gallipoli Delivers an Ethereal and Introspective Debut EP With ‘On Vodno’
Tumblr media
“All my favorite songs are slow and sad.” It's surprising how long it took Weezer to coin a term that has been ubiquitous with millennials for the better part of the last decade. But regardless of the reason you find yourself in your feelings, there is a good chance that the perfect song for you is out there just waiting to be discovered.
In comes Gallipoli, with one hell of an emotional ride on their On Vodno EP. The fact that this LA-based duo sequestered themselves on a mountain in North Macedonia for six months to create this project tells you all you need to know about how introspective and raw these songs are. Every aspect of this EP is meticulously woven together to curate a soft, ethereal, and somewhat hypnotic sound.
The beauty of On Vodno is found in its subtleties, like when Gallipoli choose to crescendo the guitars and raise their voices, providing a sense of hope within the melancholy like on “My My.” The best example of this emotional juxtaposition is found within the lyrics on perhaps the most moving song in On Vodno, “Blurry Mess.” The track reflects on a struggling relationship. “It's all one big blurry mess, but I'll see you in the morning,” sings Gallipoli. The duo’s laid-back, seemingly effortless vocals combined with the atmospheric electric guitars make an idyllic combination in “Pick Me Up Tonight” and “Poets.” One of the more standout elements on the EP is the incorporation of the gang-vocal hums on “Poets,” a powerful and moving musical component that brings the song together perfectly.
With On Vodno, Gallipoli gives us a collection of songs that are thought-provoking, comforting, and relatable. All the fundamentals for music to listen to when it seems life isn't going your way. But regardless of how you're feeling right now; whether it’s elation, despair, or somewhere in between, this EP is fantastic and a worthy listen.

Invoking the 1907 Hague Convention, the Romanian government interned nearly 38,000 Dobrujans of non-Romanian origin in north of Iaşi, Moldavia during the First World War.Of them, 60% were of Bulgarian origin, and nearly 15% were Turkish. They were transported under difficult conditions - on foot, by river barges and by railway echelons to special camps. Nearly 3/4 of the internees died in the camps they were brought to. According to the Romanian authorities, the internment was only to the male population between 18-60 years old, and the rest (women, children, eldery) would be warned that they should not do anything wrong. However, this didn’t happen - the Bulgarian newspaper "Dobrudzha", which was published in Babadag, published the names, age and birthplace of every single internee. It can be seen that the internees are not only men, but there are also many children, as well as girls between the ages of 15-19.
Balchik was one of the cities that suffered the most from the internment. 73 citizens were abducted for work in Moldavia, 50 of them Turks. In Kavarna, 134 people were interned to Moldavia and 32 of them were Turks. Tutrakan was another city that lost many people  - there were 691 interned, including 113 Turks. Among the Tutrakan Turks who went to Moldavia were also the child members of the Hüseyinov family - Nuriye (11), Vejdi (8) and Bahri (1). Even villages like Söyütçük (Vodno in Silistra), Nasradın (Bisertsi in Razgrad), Hacıköseler (Krushari in Dobrich) and Karayamurlar (Poroyno in Silistra) didn’t manage to go unnoticed. The total number of evicted people from these four villages alone is 327, of which 247 are Turks and 80 are Bulgarians.

my modified fluffy cheesecake recipe - in slovenian
sestavine krema:
900g kremnega sirčka
200ml kisle smetane
100g sladkorja
vanilijeva aroma + vanilijin strok (če imamo)
naribana limonina lupina (1 cela limona)
sok limone (pol limone)
3 žlice moke
4 jajca
sestavine za piškotno dno:
250g maslenih piškotov
90g masla
2 žlici sladkorja
bonus: globok pekač
-----------------------------------------------------------
TORTA: Sladkor (100g), vanilijevo aromo, vanilijin strok, naribano limonino lupino (cela limona), limonin sok (pol limone), moko (3 žlice) in jajca (4) zmešamo skupaj in postavimo na stran.
Kremni sirček (900g) in kislo smetano (200ml) stresemo skupaj v novo posodo in ročno in nežno premešamo z lopatico.
Če na zobotrebcu ostane le nekaj koščkov, izključimo pečico in odstranimo pekače - toplota torte bo spekla sredico. Cheesecake vzamemo iz pečice in ga ohladimo.

The Hemus motorway's construction has been going on since 1974, with the goal of connecting the 420km between Sofia and Varna. There was a great opening ceremony, where Todor Zhivkov, who was the leader of the communist Bulgaria for over 35 years, “broke ground” to signal the start of the project. Then he poured water out of a copper pot, which is pagan tradition to bring good luck to doing something new, shook hands with a girl dressed in a folk costume, and danced horo, a traditional Bulgarian circle dance, with women all dressed in folk costumes. In his speeches there was an idea that these construction projects embodied a level of “Bulgarianness”, being descendants of great Bulgarian artisans who can harness the technological advancements of Communism.
The work stalled in the final years of the communist era and resumed in 1990s. When Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007, they had managed to build 170 km of the motorway. The project was patchy, with several tenders cancelled either by the government or by the courts following objections from failed bidders.
In 2021, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Violeta Komitova revealed that the state-owned company Avtomagistrali had paid more than BGN180mn to subcontractors in advance for works that had not progressed or did not begin at all six months after their deadlines. BGN84mn went to a company called Vodno Stroitelstvo-Blagoevgrad under a contract signed with Avtomagistrali.
Around €30.7mn of that money was paid for the construction of the so-called Lot 5 of the Hemus motorway. was transferred to shell companies and then exported from the country in bags and sacks. These shell companies were registered just days before the money was paid, and the money was withdrawn in cash by selected people who were hired just a few days before, and then transferred to a different shell company.
