Jenny From Thebes Song Perspectives
John Darnielle has gifted us a beautiful album of deliberately unclear timelines and events. I'm working on parsing things out and putting it into words, and I want to start this project off with an overview of when songs from the album take place and who's the narrative voice, if any. I'm including the subtitles from the vinyl edition in italic parenthetical. This is a personal project, but if you're interested in following, it'll all be tagged Jenny Timeline, even if it's actually not about the timeline. These get long, but they are not my intended forthcoming actual song-by-song analysis, so things like the meaning of the seventh shield will not be here.
Clean Slate (New arrival at the safehouse): Lays out the status quo at what is, to us, the start of Jenny's story. She has the Color in Your Cheeks (All Hail West Texas) house, where people of any stripe can shelter.
2. Ground Floor (There was, en route to greener pastures, a small house in the city): This was originally called "SW Ranch" which confirms that the Color in Your Cheeks house is Jenny's west-facing southwestern ranch-style house (Jenny, AHWT). It seems to me to just be a description of the house and the vibes in the same way that Clean Slate is about the general purpose and process of the safehouse. Also the status quo at the start.
3. Only One Way (They consider one another in the often harsh light of how the world is): I don't like that I'm saying this, but I think the "they" of the subtitle is still just the general "they" who came in by the dozen, walking or crawling (Color in Your Cheeks, AHWT). There's a communal introspection of mortality. I don't want the Lodger to be here yet because they're introduced in the next song. Except...the timeline is screwy, as we'll see. So maybe.
I do think that she's gotten, if not official notice, warning signs about the coming eviction (maybe rezoning campaign by the city council, maybe increasing attention from authorities). There's no place to hide from what that prophesies. Because of this, I think the perspective is that of a lodger, and maybe the Lodger, warning Jenny to watch out. If it's just a lodger, this is pre-bike and pre-murder. If it's the Lodger, it's because the cops are closing in more than the coming eviction.
4. Fresh Tattoo (She commemorates her present station on her forearm): This is, pretty plainly I think, where Jenny meets and begins to shelter the Lodger, her foil in this album. Because of my reading of Same As Cash and From the Nebraska Plant, this is post-18th Street, post-murder, as Jenny picks them up on the bike. John Darnielle says "This will be her last lodger, and it's her first tattoo, and the day will prove to be decisive in her story." Picking up this person (John uses the masculine pronoun) isn't probably a big deal in itself, so the day being the murder day matters.
5. Cleaning Crew (The next best thing to an actual goodbye): Hey, Jenny and the Lodger just met, so let's separate them forever. I am Not Sure who the perspective is, but I want it to be Jenny. She's in the doorway, helmet in her arm, time short. Instead of a goodbye, she asks the Lodger what their plan is--it's better if you have one.
If Jenny is the narrator, describing the Lodger, who is on the couch for three weeks (Fresh Tattoo) as being passed out on the sofa with Naltrexone in his veins makes sense. She might be concerned about the scanner at the airport because she's going to ground (and thus riding off on the Kawasaki). I don't know how she relates to Portland. Is that in her mythos?
6. Murder at the 18th St. Garage (Behold, you may not rezone my house): One of the most Darnielle subtitles, tbh. Jenny is the narrator of this, and she's got her Civic sedan (Same as Cash) in the garage. She kills the mayor, as John says in an interview somewhere. Easy.
7. From the Nebraska Plant (The future, seen from a hard place): In terms of real events, I think this is the last song chronologically. The Lodger looks back on meeting Jenny, who already had her bike on that day ("I recall the curb" refers to their meeting, "Still, you handed me your helmet" means she had the bike). The Lodger is on hard times again and dreams of Jenny returning, but the bike is gone and so is she from their life.
8. Same as Cash (She trades in her old car and buys a Kawasaki GPz750 Turbo): I don't hold a driver's license and I don't care for noise. I want this bike. This is directly after the Murder at the 18th St. Garage. Jenny has done the initial cleanup and needs more supplies and she's sitting in her Civic sedan freaking out. With a little pressure in the right place, she trades it in for (William Staniforth Donahue's?) her Kawasaki and rides it home, meeting the Lodger (Fresh Tattoo), who narrates this.
9: Water Tower (She disposes of the body): I don't know where this fits into the exact timeline. It's after the Murder at the 18th St. Garage and is probably before Fresh Tattoo, but it's the same day, I'm sure. Or, at least, starts there. I've got thoughts, but no answers.
10. Jenny III (The future, seen with great clarity): I don't think this song is real. like Jenny (AHWT) and Great Pirates, this is a fantasy. It might actually be the fantasy of the song Jenny. Which is heartbreaking. Narrator is the Lodger.
11. Going to Dallas (As far as anyone's concerned): Jenny narrates. This is the End of any concrete knowledge of her. May God go with her and forgive her.
12. Great Pirates (The future they both deserve): A confirmed fantasy. May we all be healed.

yeah, people can’t delete their accounts however there’s ways to have the app even if the bill gets passed. In my friends country (India) TikTok is banned, but she found a way to download it on her phone. We will see a huge increase in piracy the more the government does shit like this. If we can’t be more private, we’ll just pirate.
Same as when Texas banned porn and then there was an increase in piracy and people buying porn mags and disks. Not to mention how people are getting more and more fed up with streaming services and also how video game companies don’t want people to own the games that they PAY FOR and how vinyls, DVDs, and CDs are becoming more popular within the music industry. And with all of these “at home activities” (video games, watching TV, etc) becoming more expensive and going to fast food places, even though expensive, is becoming cheaper than buying healthy groceries, people are starting to yearn for 3rd spaces again. The mall where I work has seen an uptick in the amount of people coming, lots of kids and teens. Feels like a blast to the past.
Imagine that this brings a revival of places like Blockbuster lol.
It’s always morally correct to pirate

[Free Wolf, She-Wolf] Chapter 4
Chapters post
Chapter 3: Sweet reasons, ‘stupid’ reasons
[Chapter 4] Giving Honor, Giving Away
The Emperor sat on his upholstered, reclining throne, and waited.
He played none of his vinyls, smoked none of his cigars, drank none of his booze. None of it would succeed in distracting him, and he wouldn't enjoy any of it.
He knew Croissant and Exusiai were pretending to not watch him with concern, as they puttered around and tried to look busy. Normally he would have given them some kind of tasks to distract them.
But he needed them on-hand and ready for whatever happened next. Much as he hoped for the best, he knew to prepare for the worst.
Besides, they were all waiting for the same thing.
The three of them perked up at the sound of Sora's door finally opening. While they hadn't looked forward to the possibility of waiting for hours or even until the next morning, at least that would have been a good sign.
They heard no screaming, shouting, crying, or words at all. Two sets of footsteps leisurely moved up the hall, together.
Texas and Sora emerged into the common room, holding hands, and looking surprised to see their boss and coworkers waiting for them.
Sora blushed, smiling wide enough to split her face in half, and tried to hide under Texas's arm. Texas reflexively hugged her tight to her side, but had to frown because she couldn't fake her customarily apathetic expression.
Everyone stood like that for a bit, not knowing what question to ask or what answer to give.
Exusiai spoke up first. “Spill! What’s going on?”
Texas had to think about it a moment more. “Sora and I are going Bison-hunting.”
Exusiai pumped her fist and cheered, Croissant sighed in relief, and the Emperor hid the relief in his own sigh with very real annoyance.
“Did it have to be Eurill’s brat?”
“Did you have a better suggestion?” Texas asked.
“I knew I shouldn’t have taken that kid on as a temp. Eurill planned this, and he’s never going to let me live it down.”
“Sorry.”
“Don’t apologize for doing what you need to do. It’s lame.”
"I owe you a lot."
"You don't owe me anything. You're my employee; you work for your paycheck."
"Would you walk me down the aisle?"
An involuntary squawk leapt out of the Emperor's beak. The girls — including Texas — all struggled not to laugh at him as he tried to pretend that didn't happen. He turned his back on them.
"What do I look like, your father? You couldn't afford the rates for my time. But I suppose I could consider it a favor to the company's first employee."
"Thanks, Boss. It means a lot to me."
He twitched, stilled, then whirled around to face them again. "Well! If it means that much to you, then you're the one doing me a favor! So then you don't have to go on talking about how you owe me anything. We'd be Even Stevens."
"Right."
"Right!" He thought desperately of some way to change the subject. "Exusiai, Croissant! What are you doing still standing around and gawking? Can't you see we need to be throwing a party? Ex, go get a cake. Crois, go get the pizza!"
""Right away, Boss!"" the two said, saluting and running off.
The Emperor tried to retreat into his vinyl collection, looking for appropriately celebratory tunes, but Texas had more to say now that her coworkers had left.
"Boss, what would happen to Penguin Logistics if this works?"
He paused, but didn't turn around. Dismissively, he said, "Penguin Logistics may have started with you, but it doesn't have to end with you. Are you underestimating me? You think I can't continue to compete with Eurill just because you and Sora defected?"
"Exusiai might take her sister up on her offer."
"Of course she will," he said with casual certainty.
"Wait!" Sora cried out. "We can't all leave you at the same time!"
The Emperor sighed, gave up pretending to look at his collection, and pushed his ever-present shades to the top of his head. He waddled over to Sora and took the idol's hand in his wings, as he gave her an understanding look with his own eyes.
"Sora, I'm old as balls. Older than nomadic cities. Older than Yan. I saw the end of this game before I started it. I knew this was coming eventually, after we got back from Volsinii.
"I've had a lot of fun. You girls really made it great, and I'm looking forward to however much longer the game will last.
"Don't spoil my game by trying to keep it going into overtime. I can always find a new game to play. Heck, I've left a few old ones on the shelf to make time for you girls. But you don't have so much time, so worry about yourselves!"
Sora dropped to her knees and threw her arms around the beast-lord. "But can you still be our Emperor?"
He chuckled warmly, patted her head, and dropped his shades back over his eyes. "Babe, you can't escape my empire that easily."

friday love & the shadow puppets  →  vinyl, puppets #1.
Tumblr media
[ june 13th, 1987 ] the shadow puppets release their first vinyl.
Safety Pin was the debut vinyl record released by the label Pacific Record’s newest band at the time, the Shadow Puppets. It arrived in record stores on June 13th, 1987, with a total of ten songs, Seven Nation Army serving as its lead single and the only song getting a free pass to an official video on MTV.
Tumblr media
🧷 background & production.
The band had just signed a contract with the label when the productions for the album started. It's said to be one of the fastest records to reach its final result. Turns out the band already had all of the lyrics written, when the famous producer, Min Yoongi, started working on it. With minor lyrics changes made by the producer himself, paired with his knowledge of everything instrumental, the album got to see the spotlight only a month after the Puppets' arrival at the label.
Safety Pin was not only a go-getter, filled with the band's wanting of turning themselves into propper rockstars, but also contained the moody struggles of the young artists. Needless to say, the concept was everything stage, lights, and a lot of rock and roll!

🧷 the lyrics & behind stories.
Thunderstruck,
is marked by the first guitar riff of the exceptional Jung Hoseok, and the whole band shouting 'Thunder' every time the powerful and eclectic vocalist Jeon Jungkook finishes his sentences. In a quick interview with the press, JK clarified he co-wrote the song with the band's rhythmic guitarist when they were all having a good time in Texas. "It was the beginning of everything for us," the vocalist shared, "Although we had been playing together ever since school, it was the first time we had quit our jobs and started taking the band seriously. That's why we celebrated so much!" JK concluded making everyone laugh.
Brianstorm,
was one of those songs that took everyone by surprise much like its lyrics and from who it was inspired. The song that made multiple appearances on the most famous radio station due to fans' requests, was inspired by a real person. That's right! "There was this guy... Brian," Taehyung, the band's bassist, shared, "He came to us after a small gig. The guy was a real character!" he laughed. JK also added the motive behind the lyrics he composed, "He came to us trying to offer to be our manager at the time, and he had this weird necktie and even gave us a business card. Brian left us such a lasting impression that after he was gone we brainstormed about him... Hence the whole 'Brianstorm' title pun".
No Surprises,
there are few songs quite as desolate and quite as beautiful as this. Compared to the other tracks on their vinyl, this one is as lush and melodic as it is filled with dread and despair. Although many of the fans got worried for the artists, as rumors of it being about suicid* were raised, JK clarified, later on, that he had written the piece in difficult times for him but it had nothing to do with the topic. "At the time I felt very much lost... The way I was living my life, the job I had... Like I was shaking the hand of the things that slowly kill us in the end. You may get a pretty house or a pretty garden but you're not really satisfied or happy on the inside, you know? It was that kind of feeling I had in mind when writing this." the singer explained.
In a Broken Dream,
is yet another moody and charming composition of the album. It's marked by another of Hoseok's brilliant riffs, as well as an emotional performance throughout the entirety of this title. JK's voice will for sure leave you speechless and the lyricism of it will hit you straight to the heart. "I wrote this one the same day I did 'No Surprises'... Yeah, I was down that day," JK laughs it out, charismatic as ever, "It's about spending your life dreaming about opportunities as opposed to actually going out and living them... Like never actually living in reality but in a broken dream." he further explained. The rockstar is said to have worked a couple of different jobs before taking action to pursue what he truly wanted: music.
Lonely Boy,
shows that when it comes to matters of the heart, the Shadow Puppets aren't always the nice guys. It comes across as a vulnerable anthem but also contains bits of bitter shots and blatant arrogance. Still, the song has a groovy beat that made many bang their heads along! "I don't know if I'm supposed to say but yeah, it's totally about his first girlfriend," the drummer, Jimin, exposed the composition of this upbeat, organ-tinged, song made by his bandmate JK.
Some Might Say,
is where Kim Taehyung shines with a brilliant bass line. And although JK had made another melancholic lyric, the sound of this one is nothing but euphoric. "The melody was meant to say that everything's gonna be alright" the heartthrob confessed. Apart from that, there isn't much regarding the lyrics, just what we can conclude: it's a series of thoughts and opinions that someday crowded our dear vocalist's head.
Seven Nation Army,
"Tells the tale of a person that goes out of town and then comes back, and is engulfed in a sea of lies and gossip," JK recalls, "I remember the first time I got back to my hometown after having some small gigs with the boys outta town... All I heard was 'But is it true' or 'Did you really do this or that'. I got frustrated. I got to understand that every situation has a bad and a good side to it, with fame it's just the same... As for the melody of it, I stumbled upon the riff while warming up my guitar. Pure luck, I guess!" He laughs. Frustrations set aside, we can all agree that from Queen of England to the hounds of hell, just about anyone can sing Seven Nation Army's hypnotic riff!
Rockstar,
it’s a clever piece of subversion, detailing the "benefits" of rock'n'roll stardom although it also takes jabs at fame's corrosive side. "None of it is autobiographical," says JK. "It's all supposed to be silly things, kinda like what we used to think about the industry but amplified exponentially. That sort of silliness is sort of what we wanted to do when we sat together and started throwing ideas." Jimin adds as the rest of the Puppets agree and laugh, probably remembering the moment.
Come Together,
is one of the tracks that there isn't much information about besides the fact that it was co-written by the best friends of the band: JK and Taehyung. It had been said previously they had it written early on in life when they were still in school and being a tad rebellious. Apart from that, there's only a comment from Taehyung about it, "It's a funky track, might be one of my favorites... It's funky, it's bluesy, and we both sing it together pretty well. I like the sound of it... You can dance to it. I'd buy it!", well, Tae, so will we!
Wake Me up When September Ends,
it's one we can get emotional with, even though we don't know the real reason behind its lyricism. We can only assume since the Shadow Puppets vocalist and the frontman refuses to explain it. The same occurs with the bandmates. Even so, the introductory drums are the cherry on top, and Jungkook's voice pierces our souls just like we like it. More so, it's the perfect song to end the album, as the feeling we are left with is of 'just please wake me up only and if the Shadow Puppets have released their second album'!

One week after Megan Thee Stallion issued a public plea for people to "stop using [her] shooting for clout," the Southern Black Girls & Women's Consortium shared an open letter of support for the rapper denouncing violence against women and praising her bravery.
Megan, 27, was allegedly shot in the foot by singer Tory Lanez, 30, in July 2020, and he was charged that October with two felony counts. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
In the years since, she has been forced to face critics who support Lanez, and in June, said she felt as though she had become "the villain" in the situation.
In the Consortium's letter, which was shared on Thursday, more than two dozen signees including #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson, Congresswomen Maxine Waters and Sheila Jackson Lee, activist Tamika Mallory and Angela Rye joined forces to offer their vocal support of the star, who partnered with the Consortium on the inaugural Joy Is Our Journey tour in August.
The letter is addressed to the "Plan B" rapper, and begins by praising her meteoric rise to fame and continued success, which make her an "inspiration" to "women all over the world."
"You're a special kind of talent and a special kind of person; the place you hold in your fans' hearts is a testament to that," the letter says. "As you've risen to the top, you've also had to endure a lot of obstacles along the way. In the face of triumph and tragedy alike, you always keep your head held high, maintain your poise and push forward."
Still, it goes on to acknowledge that the Grammy-winning star has "been treated in ways that no young woman—no person at all—should be treated. It must be said that our culture has failed you, one of its most brightly shining daughters."
Though Megan has repeatedly labeled Lanez an "abuser," she's had to endure many people in the industry supporting him. Earlier this month, Drake appeared to accuse her of making up the shooting in the lyrics to his song "Circo Loco."
"And when the mf facts come out remember y'all hoe ass favorite rappers that stood behind a N— that SHOT A FEMALE," Megan replied on Twitter. "People attack me y'all go up for it , i defend myself now I'm doing too much … every time it never ends and this did NOT happen until I came out and said I got shot … y'all don't [f— with me] okay cool f— it bye."
The letter calls out the "public harassment and taunting" Megan received from Lanez and his supporters, and says she's "consistently been clear about what happened" to her, but has not received the support she should.

"You don't deserve any of this, Megan," it reads. "You deserve to be heard, to be believed, and most importantly, to be safe."
The letter continues with a more general plea to continue supporting and believing victims of domestic violence, particularly Black women, who the letter says are often "fearful of what will happen to their assailant if they choose to involve the law… and are left unprotected by the system and the community alike."
Megan has said that she was shot by Lanez, whom she considered a friend, after an argument broke out between her, her friend and Lanez as they drove home from a poolside get-together at Kylie Jenner's house.
An LAPD detective testified at a preliminary hearing in December that Lanez shouted "Dance, bitch!" before shooting.
The "Luv" singer was charged in October 2020 with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. He pleaded not guilty to both charges in November 2020.
Lanez was ordered to house arrest and electronic monitoring in October, and will reportedly stay monitored through the scheduled start of his trial on Nov. 28.
Read the Consortium's letter in full below.
Dear Megan,
You are larger than life in many ways; your name is in lights, your face on billboards, your songs in the history books…and this is still just the beginning of your story. In a very short amount of time, you've achieved success probably beyond your wildest dreams, and it seems that each day brings a new announcement about something amazing you've done or are preparing to do. Women all over the world consider you an inspiration, in part because you make them feel good about themselves. You're a special kind of talent and a special kind of person; the place you hold in your fans' hearts is a testament to that.
As you've risen to the top, you've also had to endure a lot of obstacles along the way. In the face of triumph and tragedy alike, you always keep your head held high, maintain your poise, and push forward. However, while so many of us celebrate you for your strength and perseverance, it must be said that you have been treated in ways that no young woman–no person at all–should be treated.
It must be said that our culture has failed you, one of its most brightly shining daughters. In July of 2020, you experienced a violation of the highest order at the hands of someone whom you considered a friend. Since then, you've had to endure public harassment and taunting not only from that person but from others choosing to stand with him. Bloggers have circulated rumors and excitedly reported on the most traumatic experience of your life as if it were juicy gossip, often perpetuating the idea that you've got a reason to lie, that you shouldn't be believed. You've consistently been clear about what happened to you, but instead of being met with widespread support, people who should have had your back have chosen to stay out of the matter.
You don't deserve any of this, Megan. You deserve to be heard, to be believed, and most importantly, to be safe.
There is no amount of power or prestige that can prevent a woman from becoming a victim of violence and there is no level of achievement that exempts women from our society's complacency with that violence.
You may be a boss, the "hot girl coach," and a bonafide superstar, but that doesn't mean that you don't experience pain. No one is too 'bad,' too famous, too powerful to feel hurt. You've had to navigate this deeply difficult experience in the public eye, and while you've managed to stand strong and to keep showing up to work in spite of it all, it can't be understated how unfair it is that you're in this position to begin with.
Violence against women is still entirely too common and acceptable in our world. We make excuse after excuse to explain away even the most heinous acts, especially when the person accused is a celebrity of any sort. Being a celebrity, however, will not guarantee a woman any sympathy when she is a victim.
Black women are also often fearful of what will happen to their assailant if they choose to involve the law–as you yourself were afraid to do–and are left unprotected by the system and the community alike. If someone as influential as you can be belittled and mocked as nothing but a liar for standing up for herself, that speaks a volume about what a woman who doesn't have your resources or fame can expect to endure when she's found herself in a similar position.
An estimated one in three women worldwide has been the victim of sexual and/or domestic violence. Here in the United States, the numbers are higher for Black women, who also experience psychological abuse–such as humiliation, name-calling, and insults–at an increased rate. Women of all races, cis and trans, are suffering daily and we're all too complacent. From day one, you deserved a chorus of voices saying, "We believe you, Megan," and though you may not have been able to hear us sooner, know that we are with you now and every step of the way as you continue to heal from this tragedy. We are committed to making the world safer for you and all women, and one of the important steps that we must take to get there is to make it so that women who have been victims of violence can speak about their experiences without being attacked or dismissed.
You've been so strong, Megan, but that's not what we should demand nor expect from you. You deserve the space to cry, mourn and heal as you see fit without having to worry about being judged for having a human reaction to a personal tragedy.
Even in the midst of your own traumatic experience and healing, you recognized that other girls needed to experience joy and partnered with Southern Black Girls and Women's Consortium on the inaugural Joy Is Our Journey tour impacting thousands of girls across the south. You have remained committed to the focus of mental health and well being in our community even when your own has been minimized, marginalized, and deemphasized. We want you to know that you are important and you matter to us and to millions of women around the globe. Your life matters. Your work matters. Your joy matters. You deserve joy. We stand with you.
We salute you for the bravery it has taken to defend yourself in the court of public opinion, though you shouldn't have had to do so at all. We raise our voices against those who have made light of this heinous example of violence against women and will drown them out with our demands for society to take what happens to Black women seriously. You are not alone. You are believed, loved, and supported.
We stand with you Megan.

Gifts! First is Mipha's to Sandy! It's just a few Zora-Made jewellery using coloured stones! They're rather beautiful! Mimi to Rammy? Well, the butterball blob is rather limited so she gives her some new jeans and a new guitar! Nazuna put herself in sexy attire under the tree for Carol and... the less said about THAT gift the better. It was pretty tiring for Christmas Morning no doubt...! Minerva got Ma-San a new set of drums and a signed photo album of the mink~ Kobayashi got Katy a HUGE rib roast! That's it. It's very tasty! Videl got Cofi some giftcards for some good fast food places and some bathing stuff to help her relax. Iori? Well, that lazy enby managed to get Fenneko a new set of VR stuff along with that VR game she had been going on about. How nice to know they were listening! Chalice is given set of diamond jewellery; necklace and earrings. She is also given a kiss on the cheek too from Blaze! Seiko got Lammy some supplement powders to help her weight gain efforts along with a collection of chocolates too. Poppy got Elora a new faun-style dress!
Sandy is gladly wearing the jewellery with pride, and hey, she was able to give Mipha a present before going into hibernation! It's nothing as extravagant as what she received, but she gave the zora princess a recipe book all the way from her home state in Texas! She figured Mipha could learn to cook how she does while the squirrel hibernates.
Rammy is rocking the new jeans (or at least until she outgrows them) and is loving the sound of her new guitar! Perfect for fatty fingers like hers! In return, she gives her bedbound blob beauty some large chocolate wedding cakes. No, they weren't getting married, not yet anyways, but she knows how much she loves chocolates, and she'd have something to munch on for awhile, while the ram works in the shop!
Carol was an absolute, flustered mess at the sight of Nazuna, and yeah, we'll just say the night onto Christmas morning was fun. Carol had just prepared a whole bunch of sweets for the idol, like pies and cakes.
Ma-San is loving the new drums, but is trying to keep the excitement to a minimum so she doesn't blow the roof off the place, and kept the photo album on her nightstand. She returned the gesture with a signed copy of MilkCan's first vinyl album, Make it Sweet.
That rib roast is devoured within minutes, and Katy swiftly returns the gesture by cuddling the mound of a human all night, purring strong enough to make their flab vibrate together.
Cofi has a big grin on her face at the gifts she had received, and in return, she gave Videl some boxing gear. She knew she was a fighter, so, why not?
Fenneko spent that entire morning playing that VR game, having the time of her nearly immobile life, though she struggled to get Iori anything for Christmas herself, so, she settled on a nice looking suit that were a little stretchy. The two weren't showing any signs of slowing their gains, so might as well be comfy.
Chalice is blushing hotly, wearing the jewelry and necklaces, feeling like a proper princess, especially when she was kissed on the cheek. The most she was able to get for Blaze, without using her charm this time, was a golden pocket watch with a custom logo that looked like Blaze's head.
Lammy smiled at the powders, she was definitely going to put these to good use, though she wasn't sure what to get for Saiko...maybe another date night would help? They only did one after all.
Elora is flaunting the new dress, loving it! In return, she gives Poppy Crush's old club, a weapon that was left behind after Ripto's defeat.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good night!

i watched a change in you / it’s like you never had wings
full name: melanie regina lucietta miles preferred/nicknames: record ( mel or melanie in her human verse is fine too ) birthdate: august 12th age: 60+ ( human verse: 26 ) height: 5'3" gender: cis woman pronouns: she/her sexuality: bisexual education: some collage ( her BA in her human verse ) nationality: american residence: seattle WA, USA ( human verse: houston TX ) occupation: whatever her coven mother says ( human verse: professional cheerleader ) sun sign: leo tags: opens / canon / traits / music taste / aesthetic / turn ons / wanted opposites
a fleshed out and more detailed bio will be here sometime, but in the meantime here’s the rundown:
tw for assault
record is a vampire based on the lore of cassandra clare’s mortal instruments series. record’s real name is melanie, but she hasn’t been called that since she was turned when she was 19 years old. this nickname was given to her by her coven because she was found holding two vinyls ( the jacksons’ Destiny and nina simone’s Little Girl Blue ) when she was attacked. in her human verse people still call her melanie, or mel for short if they know her well.
she, nor her coven, know who the vampire is who attacked her. she’s figured by now they had to have been a fairly new vampire by the way they attacked her ( nearly ripping her throat out ) but the one who buried her and fed her when she rose again is named enivwenaye, her current coven leader. record’s relationship with her is dependent at times, and very distant at others. she appreciates her and her coven sisters ( tucker, zinnia and sariyah ) for the times they’ve given her shelter and support, but a large part of her wishes they’d just let her die from the bite, and feels they never quite understand her. she doesn’t hate them or eniwenaye for finding her, for wanting to take care of her and make sure she didn’t suffer, but she doesn’t much care for any of the life she has either.
she hates downworlder and vampire politics. she is indifferent to shadowhunters as well. record has lived in many places within her five plus decades of life, but she is very fond of seattle, and her original hometown is Houston Texas. she remembers her mother and her sister, but she has not dared to speak to them again. she felt it was best they thought her dead.
in her main verse, she works four nights a week at a bar her coven runs for vampires in downtown seattle, doing whatever it is enivwenaye needs of her. she’s not about games, she’ll cuss you out no hesitation if you piss her off, and will go toe to toe with just about anyone, and death is honestly nothing she fears in the process. this life is hardly enjoyable in her eyes.
in her human verse, melanie went to university at texas a&m as a dance major and is a professional cheerleader for the cowboys. she’s a bit more of a girly girl in her human verse, but she does actually enjoy sports. her dad got her into motor sports when she was little and she has a suzuki of her own and races for fun from time to time.

The Environmental Protection Agency will drastically reduce cancerous air pollution from chemical plants. The regulation, announced last week, comes two years after a ProPublica analysis identified more than a thousand toxic hot spots that elevate the cancer risk of millions of Americans.
“This is an incredibly significant rule that will curtail some of the nation’s biggest drivers of cancer risk,” said Adam Kron, a senior attorney at Earthjustice, an environmental advocacy group.
The rule specifically targets ethylene oxide, a colorless gas, which is used to sterilize medical devices and has been labeled by the agency as “one of the most potent cancer-causing chemicals.” ProPublica’s analysis of emissions data found that between 2014 and 2018 ethylene oxide was the single biggest contributor to excess industrial cancer risk from air pollutants nationwide. The EPA expects that under the new regulation, annual emissions of ethylene oxide will fall by 80%. The rule also updates the standards for five other highly toxic chemicals: chloroprene, benzene, 1,3-butadiene, ethylene dichloride and vinyl chloride.
The hazards of such pollutants have not been borne equally. In predominantly Black census tracts, ProPublica found that the estimated cancer risk from toxic air pollution is more than double that of majority-white tracts. Many of the most dangerous chemical plants are in communities of color in Texas and Louisiana, along an 85-mile stretch of land that has come to be known as “Cancer Alley.”
In November 2021, three weeks after ProPublica published its analysis, the EPA administrator, Michael S. Regan, visited this heavily polluted corridor as part of his “Journey to Justice” tour. At elementary schools and churches, Regan vowed to local activists that he would use the tools at his disposal to rectify environmental inequities. Last week, at the signing ceremony at the EPA’s headquarters, Regan thanked leaders in these communities for continually holding “our feet to the fire.”
Nalleli Hidalgo, a community outreach liaison with Texas Environmental Justice Advocacy Services, attended the signing last week, after meeting with Regan on his listening tour. She told ProPublica she was overwhelmed by the people missing from the room who were not alive to witness this achievement. “We have lost too many loved ones as a result of bureaucratic inertia,” she said, noting that the EPA has long been required by law to update its risk standards for these chemicals. “Our communities should not have to wait one more day for fence line monitoring to take effect.”
For years, Texans like Hidalgo, living near chemical plants, have asked the agency to measure what they’re breathing in. ProPublica’s analysis found that for many homes closest to the fence lines of petrochemical plants in cities like La Porte and Port Neches, Texas, the estimated excess risk of cancer ranges from three to six times the level that the EPA considers acceptable. Our analysis, however, was based on the self-reported estimates from facilities, which can be unreliable and even underestimated. Without real-time monitoring data, it’s difficult for the agency to take action against polluters, even when residents point to unnerving patterns of headaches, asthma and cancers among their neighbors.
Under the new rule, hundreds of chemical plants will have to install monitoring for six hazardous chemicals at the fence line and share their data publicly online. When levels of these toxics exceed permitted amounts, facilities will be required to take corrective action to reduce them. The ExxonMobil plant in Baytown, Texas, just outside of Houston, for instance, is one of the largest refineries on the planet. It will now need to monitor for the carcinogen 1,3-butadiene, which its self-reported data shows it emits in large quantities. But, as Hidalgo noted, the EPA is still years behind updating its risk standards for other harmful air toxics, including ethylene, toluene and propylene. These chemicals are also emitted by the Baytown facility, according to its emissions data. (The facility did not respond to a request for comment.)
When the Biden administration introduced the rule last year, industry groups commented that curbing pollution would pose an undue and unnecessary burden. (The agency estimates that it will cost polluters roughly $1.8 billion to comply with the rules.) “I think people don’t appreciate how difficult it is to get a regulation of this magnitude promulgated,” said Scott Throwe, a former senior staffer in EPA’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance. “This is an industry that is very organized and has a great deal of impact on legislation and lobbying groups.” The American Chemistry Council said in a statement that the rule “will have significant implications on the production of key chemistries such as ethylene oxide” and that it remained “concerned with the recent onslaught of chemical regulations being put forth by this Administration.”
President Joe Biden has made environmental justice a centerpiece of his legislative agenda, but the legacy of some of his policies may depend on future presidents who do not share his priorities. The Trump administration, for instance, rolled back more than a hundred environmental protections, including two dozen air pollution and emissions policies. This current rule, however, will be hard to dismantle, experts say, because of the provision for continuous fence line monitoring. “If levels are being exceeded and there is no follow-up, the community will now have the actual data, and the opportunity to take their own action through citizen suits if they have not been sufficiently protected,” said Victor Flatt, an environmental law professor at Case Western Reserve University. “Even without much enforcement, the monitoring gives citizens a recourse.”
Throwe agreed. “The work that ProPublica did in identifying some of these disproportionately impacted communities helped draw attention to this issue,” he said. “We’ve seen the leverage these communities have when they have access to this information and can tell regulatory agencies that the levels they are exposed to are completely unacceptable.”

How-To Design Car Signs For Your Pool Company
If you use a fleet vehicle as part of your business, take advantage of the mobile advertising opportunity. Use car signs to grab customers' attention and build an easily-recognizable brand for your business. As your company vehicles travel between locations they have remarkable exposure, and if you're on the road anyway, why not capitalize on it? Car signage builds trust with your clientele and creates a professional and polished business identity.
Tumblr media
Pool companies usually have a fleet of work vans and trucks that employees use to transport products. Adding business signage to these vehicles is a great decision. Although they are work vehicles and sometimes face harsh conditions, car signs are designed for outdoor use, and displaying your company's name helps customers quickly identify your vehicles. Before you start designing your sign, decide where you want place your signage and the size you need. Measure your vehicle to determine the correct size.
roll-ups Svendborg
Knowing what size you will be ordering will be very helpful when designing your sign. The most-effective tactic for pool company advertising is to show off the great work and expertise of the business. Take professional photographs of the backyard oasis you helped to create, the designer pool you installed, or the sparkling and refreshing water that is crystal clear. You can use these images in your car sign advertising as well as on your website and print advertising.
In terms of color scheme, accents your business logo and brand colors. Blue is a popular color for pool companies as a representation of the crystal blue water, but add-in other colors to make your signage unique. Highlight your services, business name, and contact information with a contrasting color like bright red, white or black. The goal to creating a readable sign is to use contrasting colors to help your text stand out.
It's not hard to find a sign material that fits your needs. Car decals can withstand outdoor exposure and are your best option for long-lasting vehicle signage. They are a great choice for full-size van panels. You can also add car window decals using to your rear windows one-way vision vinyl for a full-color advertisement that is see-through from the inside. These products are more visually-interesting and increase your marketing reach. If you are looking to advertise on personal trucks, car magnets are easily-removable and offer a very professional look.
To grow your business and increase your market, it's crucial to convey your expertise and build your brand. Car signs are an inexpensive and easy way to promote your business effectively. Your work is worth talking about, so use that as the focus of your car signs and you'll quickly see results.
