A Creature Of Symmetry - Madeline Usher/Tamerlane Usher/Verna
A/N: Day 4 for @polyamships Multiamory March. GIFs made for me by @whoreofthecottage
TW: Implied Aunt/Niece Incest.
“Did you not say we must all… bow… at the curtain?”
Madeline’s question is light but Verna feels Tamerlane tremble, her grip tightening just slightly on the glass she’s holding when Tamerlane breaks, fleeing them both, running from the room.
“That was a lie, a… misunderstanding… even. Roderick dies. Gris dies. That is symmetry enough…”
Verna drains the glass, stands, shooting Madeline a long look before adding.
“Love too, is symmetry… I have you, strong, shameless, wanton you and I have… had… her… sweet, shy, broken Tamerlane.”
She’s quiet as she leaves the room, feeling Madeline’s breath hitch, pausing on the stairs to look back at her.
“Come along, we need to find her.”
They do, of course. Staring into a mirror, poker in hand, her grip weak, her eyes full of pain from fighting herself and she sobs as Verna steps closer, crumbling into her with a sob, then reaching meekly for Madeline.
“Please… hold me.”
It's small, shy, timid… and full of craving. Madeline’s eyes close as she inhales, smoothing her shirt before she crosses close, wrapping herself around the girl she’s always loved in ways she knows would make her brother, Tamerlane’s father, insane.
“Alright, little bug. Alright.”

mike flannagan essentially saying that greed and capitalism and the hunger for money (not borne out of a need for safety and contentment, but for power and the urge for more) is death to an artist. that poetry and truth and art cannot live in tandem with greed. that they are anathema to the duplicitous, treasonous and covetous nature of the wealthy and gluttonous.

Thou bearest in Heaven at night,//And more I admire//Thy distant fire,//Than that colder, lowly light….- Tamerlane Usher/Verna
A/N: Part 1/4 for day 20 of @fluffbruary GIF made for me by @whoreofthecottage
“'Twas noontide of summer,
And mid-time of night;
And stars, in their orbits,
Shone pale, thro' the light
Of the brighter, cold moon,
'Mid planets her slaves,
Herself in the Heavens,
Her beam on the waves.
I gazed awhile
On her cold smile;
Too cold- too cold for me-
There pass'd, as a shroud,
A fleecy cloud,
And I turned away to thee,
Proud Evening Star,
In thy glory afar,
And dearer thy beam shall be;
For joy to my heart
Is the proud part
Thou bearest in Heaven at night,
And more I admire
Thy distant fire,
Than that colder, lowly light….”
Verna’s voice is soft, smooth as silk and Tamerlane smiles just a little at the feeling of her arm at her waist, soft lips brushing her ear even as they lie curled together, Verna’s fingers tracing soft circles into her skin. She’s getting, slowly, used to the smooth softness of Verna and her love. It is enough, deep and comforting warmth surrounding her fragile heart. She sleeps, slowly, Verna’s slow caress and softly murmured poems easing her to restfulness, warm and safe and loved. She is safe, here, she knows, safe and loved and able, finally, to rest. She feels, at last, safe.
