Midnight Pals: More Usher
Mike Flanagan: so the important thing about the Usher family
Flanagan: is that they are all huge perverts
Poe: oh yes yes absolutely
Poe: see, this guy gets it!
Barker: do the Usher twins fuck
Poe: of course-
Flanagan: of course not!
Poe:
Poe: wait wait wait
Poe: mike, are you serious?
Poe: of course roderick and madeleine usher fuck!
Flanagan: i don't remember that
Poe: the insinuation is right there in the story!
Barker: ah
Barker: the insinuation
Barker: see, that right there, edgar
Barker: that is your problem
Barker: that's why i never insinuate
Barker: in my stories, if someone fucks
Barker: you're gonna know
Poe: i'm not splatterpunk like you, clive!
Poe: i write gothic subtlety!
Barker: phhhtt "subtlety"
Barker: that's for losers!
Poe: come on, i think i made it pretty clear
Flanagan: i really did not get that out of the story
Poe: didn't you see how broken up roderick was about madeleine's death?
Flanagan: i thought they were just really good platonic siblings
Poe: this sucks
Poe: nobody appreciates my work!
Poe: [sulking] future archeologists are probably gonna dig up the usher twins and be all "wow, look at these two really close platonic siblings"
Poe: you gotta have the incest!
Poe: that's why the house fell!
Flanagan: i thought you said the house fell because of faulty construction
Poe: no not the literal house falling
Flanagan: oh NOW we're talking metaphorically!
Flanagan: I just can't win!
Flanagan: come on
Flanagan: you all can't tell me that you WANTED more incest in this story!
Poe:
Barker:
King:
Koontz:
Lovecraft:
VC Andrews: i wanted more incest in this story
Flanagan: ok i'm sorry about forgetting the incest
Flanagan: but there's plenty of other terrible perversions in my adaptation!
Flanagan: like this one usher, she has a threesome
Flanagan: and another is a cuckold fetishist
Barker: oh mike haha
Barker: oh mike you are like a little baby to me

I think toxic romance should qualify as a subgenre as horror, and I can't stand horror nerds that don't believe in subgenres. Like the kind of people who think that anything that isn't oozing shock value and gore doesn't count as "real" horror. The kind of people who say Flowers In The Attic is a psychological thriller or tragedy instead of a horror-tragedy.
Like how is tragedy not horrifying???
What is not horrifying about children being locked up, starved to death, and so completely cut off from human interaction that they develop an incestuous bond as a coping mechanism???

“As we sat in the rocker with Chris underneath, I caught a glimpse of us in the dresser mirror across the way. An eerie feeling stole over me, making all of this seem so unreal. He and I looked like doll parents,”
V.C. Andrews. Flowers in the Attic
(cory is sleeping on cathy he blends in a little sorry. this part of the book has always struck me as like. when their parentification is solidified, it’s so tragic. anyways, it’s funny, the last group fita pic i drew was in january of last year!)
