chris and cathy’s refusal to seriously punish bart is so telling. the most they do - putting him in the attic for a few hours - is more a trauma gut reaction than anything and they both hate themselves for even having that option. everything going on points to bart possibly being a little murderer, but they keep giving him love and the benefit of the doubt, which is something corrine, olivia and malcolm definitely would never have done.
