Hello Liv, I’m looking for a fic with « a falling in love while the world around us is ending » vibe. Finding love in a midst of a war or a tragedy. when everything around is collapsing, when we don’t know how much time is left so every second is lived fiercely and intensely.

Daily Blog June 22, 2023
So that was fun yesterday in starting this blog. I seriously do hope that as time goes by that others will start doing the same. :) I do want to add that in my posts I will be adding some fandom history now and then. Today is one of those days. I may have been a bit self-indulgent. *blushes*
What I'm Reading:
I'm trying to savor the Ginny sorted into Slytherin story I mentioned yesterday. In my first read of it, I raced through it and know that I probably missed enjoying it in it's complete form. I'm on a few Discords and one of them being Harry Potter Fanfiction Club. They have a vote every month to choose what fics the members can read together and discuss. This month they chose for Drarry aideomai's Dwelling. I'd read this masterpiece before but decided to look for a shorter fic by this amazing author. I chose Nice Things. OMG all 22K of this fic is such a treat. If you ever need a warm, dreamylike fic, choose this one. It's an 8th year fic where only 7 of the classmates come back. Ron, Harry, and Hermione are in the mix. Draco is there along with Theo. They are assigned to live in a cottage on the grounds of Hogwarts. The progression of Harry and Draco's relationship is lovely. Read it now or Bookmark it for later when the need for this type of fic hits...as we all know there are times it's needed.

I only have one today and that's just because I have a bit to say about it as it holds a special place in my fandom heart.
HD Fan Fair (Career Fair) is open for prompts! They have openings for 250 prompts and so far have 153. Prompt closing is on June 30th. Claiming begins on July 1st.
First of all, I think we need to give a huge shout-out to Fan Fair mod @phoenixacid. This will be her 10th year of modding this fest. I do believe she worked on it even earlier. Anyone who's modded a fest before knows the dedication it takes to see it through. Her co-mod, @sassy-cissa has been involved since 2018.
Here's a little history about this Fest
This fest has been going on annually since 2009, with the exception of 2011. It was conceived by @marguerite26 and myself, with @vaysh11 and Jamie2109 soon joining in. I was unable to mod for personal reasons that first year and only partially the second...after that I pretty much left fandom. Back then, you really couldn't just start a fest when other established fests were already on the calendar. It was considered impolite and it would be posted on LJ about what an arse you were. LOL When hd_inspired closed shop, we jumped in and took their spot in Autumn. Fan Fair started with Career Fair and then moved on to Travel Fair. Since then, they've had Book (books mentioned in HP), Sex, Food, and Pottermore Fairs with repeats for Career, Travel and Food. Both Inspired and then Fan Fair were novel in being a prompt fest as opposed to an exchange fest like @hd-erised (back then it was hd_holidays). We felt it gave greater control to the authors to write to a prompt they liked as opposed to be assigned one, which from personal experience can cause angst and meltdowns. That is why it was called a Fair as opposed to a fest. A fest usually meant an Exchange Fest.
When I came back to fandom, I about cried seeing that @Phoenixacid had not only kept Fan Fair alive but it was thriving. I wrote for it that first year I came back in 2021, and I made a promise to read and comment on every fic and art piece posted for the Fairs. I only skipped one fic last year. It was brilliantly written but was beyond my comfort level for psychological horror. I don't listen to Podfics, I'm sorry to say. When I used to commute hours to and from work, I could but now I don't have the where-with-all to pay attention.
So go PROMPT!!!!! And give tons of love to the two mods!!!! Mods are the backbone of fandom.

Most Popular: The Magic Word. Wow, turns out it’s in the Carry On fandom, which I flirted with pre-HPverse. Fanfic of fanfic of fanfic! So meta! Bricks & Mortar is my most popular Drarry fic, followed closely by Harry Potter and the Showstopper of Doom.
Hidden Gem #1: Only a Change of Time. Ah, 2018. I had a stressful job and reliable childcare and a ridiculously long commute, I was obsessed with Josh Ritter (including the song “Change of Time”), and I was on a train typing out this entire fic on my phone in a single go. I usually do careful, deliberate, kind of plodding world-building, but I relaxed into this one and the words flowed in a way I don’t usually get to experience. And then the podfic by @vaysh11 was just incredible. I cried when I heard her gorgeous voice reading it. It made my writing feel real in a way I’ve never experienced before or since.
Hidden Gem #2: Bespoke. I’m sure the Harry/Draco/Ginny triad puts people off of this one, and I get it -- it’s not normally my thing either, but this was such a fun challenge. I loved the wise counsel of @tackytigerfic and others who know things about fashion, and it was fun to write Harry being just as clueless about the clothes as I was. Also, I think “Love is love, Potter. Or hadn’t you heard,” is the best Draco line I’ve ever written.

2. When was the last time you cried? I cry often. I'm really emotional. I think it's a good way to cleanse the soul.
3. Do you have kids? No.
4. What sports do you play/have you played? I played basketball when I was a kid. Then, I practiced cycling.
5. Do you use sarcasm? Often
6. What’s the first thing you notice about someone? Personal scent.
7. What’s your eye color? blue.
8. Scary movies or happy endings? When I was younger, I liked tragedies. Now I prefer happy endings.
9. Any talents? Passion. When I like something, I'm very passionate. I try to learn everything, be good in that field.
10. Where were you born? Asturias (in Spain)
11. What are your hobbies? Imagining worlds to later develop them into stories.

Self Rec Tag Game
Rules: We would like to ask you to recommend us 3 of YOUR fics: 1 that is “most popular” and 2 that are “hidden gems!"
Most popular: “Fields of Strawberries” (Aug 2020, E, Harry/Remus, 9022)
As much as Remus has done for Harry over the years, this is the least he could do. Little did Harry know what he would discover about himself when he volunteered to marry Remus so he could keep custody of his infant son Teddy.
Technically there are two that sort of apply here; depending on if you go by most hits, or most kudos. I’m choosing to go with the most hits, as it’s a really close second in terms of most kudos as well. Also, it is one fic that I never expected to get hardly any support. The fact that it has, and continues to, has blown my expectations out of the water. The why remains a complete mystery to me, but I surely do appreciate it. I am not sure if it’s the extreme fluffiness of it, or the hot (hopefully) A/O sex at the ending, or maybe the combination of the two. Either way, I bring you:
Hidden Gem 1: “To Wait a Lifetime” (Oct 2013, T, Draco/Regulus, 17,080)
When Draco moved into Number 12 Grimmauld Place after the death of his wife, he never expected to find the love of his life, nor how long he would have to wait to claim that love
So, skipping over the drably sort of fics and some that were just sort of tossed off, without a lot of thought, this was the one that came up with the least amount of hits/kudos. Could be the paring, this was written long before Regulus hit his current status as a major hottie, (also he’s a ghost—fic based on the old movie “The ghost and Mrs Muir). It was so much fun to write, to figure out how to make a relationship with a ghost work, how they first discover each other, the getting together, and how they find their own happy ending. (Also, I love that Harry Potter serves as Draco’s closest friend in this fic).
Hidden Gem 2: “The Cottage of Discovery” (Nov 2014, E, Harry/Draco, 5156)
Sometimes paying attention to the events of the day is helpful, sometimes not paying attention, is even more helpful.
Fairly typical Harry/Draco fic with some common tropes: Auror partners each crushing on the other, but the other has no clue, stranded in the middle of nowhere—with no way out, only one bed, and there is very little to do to kill the time, besides… Well, you know. We all know. Still it was a great deal of fun to write this, and I wish it had more love.

Not quite midnight here, but since the AO3 collection is live, here is my gift for @vaysh11 in the @mbd-gift-exchange! True story, I haven’t actually watched the Mandalorian but the idea of Murderbot and the Mandalorian encountering each other in a bar in space was such a good mental image that I had to draw it. New @mayakern skirt arrived today! I love how the pockets are green inside, it's such a fun detail. (Also, many many thanks to Devin for exchanging my order for the next size up after I bought a different skirt in the recent sale and realized I'd prefer a larger size, this one fits perfectly!)

So a few weeks ago @shaelit asked if anyone had drawn that scene, and then the request got shared in the QT discord server and I was bullied into drawing it lovingly reminded that I have the ability to draw. Anyway, it was high time I did some art from these myths, the Immakuk and Ennikar stories are my favorite in the series and this one is a particular favorite.

1. Are you named after anyone? Yes! My great-grandmother for my first name, and my great-great-grandmother for my middle name.
2. When was the last time you cried? About a month or two ago. Sometimes, you just have to have a minor meltdown because of work.
3. Do you have kids? No.
4. What sports do you play/have you played? I have played basketball, tennis, netball, and athletics. I used to swim and play cricket for fun. Nothing right now, but that's more due to physical limitations than not wanting to.
5. Do you use sarcasm? All the bloody time! I'm Australian, it kind of comes built-in.
6. What’s the first thing you notice about someone? Whether they are quiet or not. If they are, I do try to not be as "me" as I usually am. I can be quite loud.
7. What’s your eye color? Brown.
8. Scary movies or happy endings? I watch both, but I definitely watch happy endings more.
9. Any talents? I can wriggle my ears!
10. Where were you born? Newcastle born and bred!
11. What are your hobbies? Gaming (xbox usually, but also PS4), crafting stuff, writing, jewellery making, reading, puzzles.
12. Do you have any pets? One Kelpie, one cockatiel, and one budgie.
13. How tall are you? 182cm, or 5'11"-ish.
14. Favorite subject in school? History. It was one of my history teachers who introduced me to Ancient Egypt, which remains a love of mine to this day.
15. Dream job? I'd love to be a professional writer. Or just keep doing what I do with my volunteer work, but getting paid for it.

A glass of milk is standing on the floor.
The asset lies on the tiles, bleeding. The pain from its wounds is nothing compared to the cramps. It's used to being starved but even the asset cannot go without sustenance for weeks.
The glass of milk is waiting.
It cannot drink milk. Milk is poisonous to its body. It will hurt, it will vomit, it will soil the tiles.
It is so hungry.
Blue milk, they used to call it – milk so diluted the bottom of the pot was shining through. This is how poor they've been, during their worst years, just before Steve's mom died. The time when he had nothing, only Bucky.
SHIELD shows Steve commercials from the fifties when kids got milk for free at school. They look so happy – those strong and healthy kids. A boy drinks from a milk carton, and it leaves a white moustache on his lip.
When Bucky comes back to him, Steve offers him a glass of milk, directly from the fridge. He doesn't even see the metal arm, knocking him out. When he comes to, there are shards on the floor, a sea of white. The window is wide open.

Daily Blog July 12, 2023
Wish I could wrap up so many of you and bring you to Seattle this weekend. My sis' town in NoCal is supposed to be 112F (44.4C) degrees and my son's town in SoCal 105F (40.5). Not even getting into my cousins in Las Vegas where it's going to push 117F (47.2C). And yes the south has been suffering for weeks on end. Crazy! I lived in an old brick apt in Chicago a long time ago that didn't have A/C. Its where I learned about soaking in a cool bath and then laying on the bed with a fan on to dry off. Rinse and repeat. Be safe!
What I'm reading:
So last time I mentioned I would be reading Temptation on the Warfront by alizarincrims0n (AO3). I'm on chapter 17! However, I quickly realized, I've read it before. It must have been two years ago, I think. Definitely worth a second read. Draco joins the trio on the Horcrux hunt. It's always fun for me when an author is talented enough to manipulate canon with inserts of another character into the scenes and it works! Alizarincrims0n certainly has that talent!
I also read the posting for today's @drarrydisabilityfest, Like Father, Like Son (5.6K) by @ladderofyears. Summary: During Scorpius's autism diagnosis, Harry begins to understand that he might be autistic too.
My thoughts:
I'm always amazed when so much can be packed into a short fic. I adored this slice of life story with Harry and Draco sitting in Madam Rosemary's office with Scorpius off playing in the corner, while getting told his diagnosis. Little bells start going off as the Healer speaks. Draco is lovely as the parent who dives into all research available, which is mainly Muggle. And his reflection back on his family is a Wow! Harry is sitting there in denial because Scorpius is perfect...which he is. @ladderofyears presents the diagnosis and how it was made with examples so beautifully. Never preachy. And last thing I'll say is I just loved the name of Scorpius' preschool: Green Toadstool Nursery. Definitely a Rec!

So during the AO3 DDOS problem, @lee-bella posted Non AO3 HP Masterlists. Wow! what a treasure load. The fests were hosted on Dreamwidth and/or LiveJournal. What attracted my attention immediately was down at the end were two older Masterlist directories on Livejournal. What was exciting for me was that these were the original postings with comments on these fics. So many have been re-posted on AO3 at a later time, but the originals capture the excitement of the fests. If you dig around, you'll notice that commenting while usually very high, can also contain concrit. I have my share of burns on there. *ouch*. What you can also find is some fics from deleted authors that still exist in the fest community postings. Here's the links. And thank you @lee-bella for this post!!! HP Masterlist from 2002-2017. And my fav! Guns&Handcuffs Drarry Fests and Challenges 2004-2015. Wasn't surprised at all to see @vaysh11 was responsible for this. Dig deep into the fests but also note the other links on the Home Page and the text before the masterlists, which gives other fascinating links.
Other TidBits:
I made an ask on a Discord Server for what the ship name was for Harry/Daphne. I was so uninspired when Haphne came back as the answer. I was hoping for something like DaphPot or HarDaph. GreenPot would have been good but there's Astoria, too. Hmm PotDGreen!!! *snicker*
Oh, Rom is sad, sad, sad. After posting on here last time that I'm in desperate need of a beta for my long arse WIP, I then asked on the two big Discord servers for H/D and for HP Writers. No response. Zero. nadda. Just so you know, I'll continue writing this fic and start begging more. Most of those Scorching comments I mentioned that I received way back then was for lack of a good betaing. I have scars...deep scars. Anyone use Grammarly? it has a 30 day limit for 150K.
