My state has good news for women for a change!

A Connecticut Democrat successfully changed the wording of new legislation to add the phrase 'expectant mothers', after branding the original suggested language - 'pregnant persons' - an affront to women.

State Rep. Robyn Porter, a Democrat representing New Haven, proposed an amendment to House Bill 5454 to incorporate the term 'expectant mothers' during discussions on a bill regarding state funding on Thursday.

'My children call me mother, ma, mommy. It depends on the day,' Porter said Thursday. 'I don't answer to pregnant person or birthing person. That's not what I answer to.

A huge part of my identity is wrapped around being a mother and a grandmother. So I find it an affront that someone would try to tell me that what they're putting on paper for the purpose of policy covers me when I'm telling you that it doesn't,' she continued.

The bill was originally launched by the Human Services Committee before reaching appropriations to incorporate the phrase 'expectant mothers' to lines five and six.

The original lines of the bill read '… shall create a strategic plan to maximize federal and state resources for mental health services for children six years old and younger, their caregivers and pregnant persons.'

Lawmakers voted 32-16 to adopt the term 'mothers' following a 35-minute debate.

The unexpected decision was achieved through a coalition of Republicans and members of the legislature's black and Puerto Rican Caucus - with all 16 opposing votes coming from Democrats.

Porter stated, 'We want to talk about discrimination? Well, I'm here to tell you that black people in America know that very well.

'This is where I really get frustrated in this building because what we say is dismissed, disregarded, disrespected. … I'm always asked to compromise when I come to the table, and I'm expected to do so.

She added, 'We were mothers first. Yes, times are changing, and I'm fine with that because that's life... But you don't get to grow, and you don't get to talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion and exclude me and the other women like me who identify as mothers. You don't get to do that.'

She said some women 'want to be called mothers. What's wrong with that?'

The primary advocate for the original language of 'pregnant persons' in the bill was Rep. Jillian Gilchrest, a Democrat from West Hartford.

'Pregnant person is actually the inclusive term,' Gilchrest said. 'It is a gender neutral term, and it would encompass expectant mothers, pregnant women.

'As we talk about DEI, this is the direction we are hoping to move in in this state and ideally across the country.

'And so the term pregnant persons is the more inclusive term, and so I would ask my colleagues to oppose the amendment.'

Many legislators representing the state's major urban cities rallied in support of Porter's amendment.

State Rep. Geraldo Reyes, a Democrat from Waterbury and a prominent figure in the black and Puerto Rican Caucus, emphasized the cultural significance of motherhood.

'Culturally, as a Puerto Rican person, there is nothing more sacred than a mother... There is only one mother … Just as I opposed the word Latinx, I oppose the word expecting person,' he said.

Similarly, Rep. Minnie Gonzalez, a Democrat from Hartford backed Porter's amendment and emphasized his support for the LGBT community.

'It's nothing against the LGBT community. It's nothing about them,' he said. 'Nothing against them. We support them … We recognize that they have rights, but where are my rights? I have the right to defend my rights.'

Rep. Anthony Nolan, a New London Democrat was emphasized then importance of the word 'mother' in black communities.

'I'm just astonished by some of the things that are being said,' he said. 'In black culture, who really are ingrained with that word mother, for us to go home and call our mother something other than a mother, we would end up with a slap across the face.

'We're not removing anything. We're just asking to add something that is dear to those that are speaking in regards to it, especially in the black culture.'

Last year, the CDC was slammed for 'appalling' new health guidance in which it replaced the word 'women' with the gender-neutral term 'pregnant people.'

The erasure of the term women can be seen in recommendations for a host of respiratory virus vaccinations for pregnant women.

This includes material promoting shots for Covid, flu and RSV - a common respiratory condition that most affects older adults and young children.

Although usually mild, all three viruses can be deadly in pregnant women.

All gender-specific terms — including 'she,' 'her,' 'women' and 'mother' — were replaced with gender-neutral terms like 'pregnant people' and 'pregnant person.'

A doctors' organization said the CDC was 'cowering to political forces' at the expense of sound medical advice at the time.

Hey guys? Oklahoma wants to call animal control on kids who engage with furry culture

House Bill 3084, sponsored by Oklahoma Representative Justin Humphrey [R], would prohibit students who are furries from attending school or participating in curriculum and school events. stating that parents or guardians would be required to pickup their children from school else the school will be required to Call Animal Control

If you're a furry you don't get to go to school (not that Oklahoma gives you much of an education anyway) but we can't ignore that this is likely another attempt to compress lgbtq+ students and people with otherwise nonstandard hobbies into conformity. Knowing that the online furry community is heavily saturated with nonbinary and queer individuals.

The added benefit of these community programs, which get funded by the local government most of the time, is if there are more people using them then they can get more money to help more people.

The poor man never recovered and when one of his colleagues was badly burned in a workplace accident, something clicked. But it is the death of his mother that will truly set the fire : freed from parental oppression, the poor man will finally be able to free everything his hatred and resentment towards women, the only representative of whom he knew was his mother. The first victim will be a pretty florist, then a broken down motorist. What surprises at first is the ease with which he manages to convince and bring the young girls home : The florist is an obvious example because without any physical or verbal violence, the killer manages to attract him. The boutique where she works at home, great art ! This sequence lasts several minutes, which allows the viewer to sympathize with the poor women's who will suffer the ultimate punishment in a particularly spectacular and unbearable sequence... The result is so extreme for the viewer that the other executions will be filmed off camera. And we will have to wait until the finale to find such frenzy again.

The American Civil Liberties Union in Indiana has filed a lawsuit against the state’s Department of Corrections after a trans-identified male inmate convicted of murdering his infant stepdaughter was denied “gender affirming” surgeries.

The suit, which was filed on August 28, challenges a recently-adopted policy stipulating that the Indiana Department of Corrections (IDOC) cannot provide transgender surgeries to inmates. House Bill 1569, which took effect July 1, bans the spending of state or federal dollars on sexual reassignment surgery for inmates.

According to the complaint, the ACLU is accusing the state of “deliberate indifference to a serious medical need,” arguing that “gender affirming surgeries” are a “medical necessity” for some inmates. The ACLU also states that the policy “discriminates … in violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”

The ACLU brought the case against the state on behalf of a transgender inmate currently serving a 55-year sentence for the horrific murder of his stepdaughter

Autumn Cordellioné, also known as Jonathan C. Richardson, was arrested in 2001 after his 11-month-old stepdaughter died in his care while her mother was at work.

According to court records seen by Reduxx, Richardson was visited by friends that night who observed he was “acting strangely” and refused to invite them in the house as he normally would.

Despite claiming the little girl was sleeping, Richardson had loud music playing in the home, and his guests noted that he appeared to have a fresh, bleeding tattoo of the child’s name carved into his arm

Later that night, after his friends left, Richardson went to his neighbor and asked him to call 911, claiming the child was unresponsive. When emergency personnel arrived, they were briefly able to resuscitate the girl, but she died shortly after being rushed to the hospital.

Richardson was interviewed by police, who noted he was “calm and unemotional” during questioning, and his story about what happened to the baby changed dramatically over the course of the two interviews conducted.

At first, Richardson claimed he found the baby unresponsive after doing some household chores. But in the next interview, Richardson said the child was being “fussier than usual” and he attempted to throw her up in the air repeatedly in an effort to calm her down. He said her “head bopped forward and back up in a rough type of a manner,” and that the child continued to cry so he proceeded to shake her aggressively in an effort to calm her down.

During a failed appeals hearing, detectives from the case recounted how Richardson “physically showed” how he had manhandled the girl, getting up out of his chair and demonstrating the action in a rough manner.

An autopsy subsequently found that the baby had died of asphyxiation by manual strangulation.

Richardson was booked awaiting a court hearing, and would later tell a prison official “all I know is I killed the little fucking bitch.”

Richardson was found guilty and sentenced to 55 years in prison for the horrific crime.

According to the ACLU’s legal complaint, Richardson began identifying as transgender in 2020 and had been receiving testosterone suppressants and feminizing hormones. But the medications have not reportedly relieved fully Richardson’s “debilitating symptoms of gender dysphoria.”

Using “she/her” pronouns to refer to Richardson, the ACLU’s filing reads: “Accordingly, at this point gender-affirming surgery is necessary so that her physical identity can be aligned with her gender identity.”

Despite only having begun to identify as transgender in 2020, the ACLU claims that Richardson has “identified as a female” since he was 6 years old.

In addition to hormones, Richardson has been receiving ample accommodations from the IDOC, including being given bras, makeup, panties, and “form-fitting clothing.”

Richardson is currently incarcerated at a men’s facility.

This is not the first time the ACLU has attempted to intervene to protect the gender identity of a violent transgender inmate.

In June, the ACLU came under fire after condemning the state of Florida for not providing “gender-affirming care” to a convicted rapist and murderer prior to his execution.

Duane Owen, who was executed on July 15, had been handed a death sentence after brutally murdering a 38-year-old mother and a 14-year-old girl in 1984. During court proceedings, Owen claimed that he sexually assaulted women as part of a ritual to harvest their hormones, and that he was a transsexual who carried out the sexual violence to “turn himself into a female.”

On June 16, the ACLU, through their official X (formerly Twitter) account, lambasted the state of Florida for refusing to provide “medically necessary gender-affirming care” to Owen. Using feminine pronouns to refer to Owen, the ACLU claimed the state had caused Owen “enormous suffering” and had violated “her right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment for the more than 30 years she was in state custody.”

Earlier this year, Reduxx exclusively revealed that the ACLU in New Jersey had represented a transgender diaper fetishist in a case that would ultimately result in male inmates being transferred to the state’s women’s prison.

In August of 2019, the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey (ACLU-NJ) filed a lawsuit against the state Department of Corrections on behalf of Danielle Demers but protected his identity. The suit argued that a “woman” named “Sonia Doe” had been “imprisoned for the past seventeen months in men’s prisons,” a situation that was said to constitute “cruel and unusual punishment.”

In June of 2021, the state of New Jersey reached a settlement with the ACLU-NJ and agreed to adopt major reforms to prison policies which would allow housing according to a self-declared and subjective ‘gender identity’ rather than on biological sex. The policy has since resulted in multiple extremely violent male offenders being transferred to the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for women.

According to testimonies provided to Reduxx from women incarcerated at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women (EMCF), among the first men to be transferred to the prison after Demers and the ACLU-NJ were victorious in their lawsuit was a convicted killer who had beaten a prostituted woman to death and drank her blood.

Other violent male inmates currently incarcerated at the facility thanks to the ACLU’s efforts include Marina Volz, who sexually tormented his own 7-year-old daughter to make “transgender porn,” and Dejshontaye Goddeszholliwould, who stabbed his aunt to death.

I found an extremely dope disability survival guide for those who are homebound, bedbound, in need of disability accommodations, or would otherwise like resources for how to manage your life as a disabled person. (Link is safe)

It has some great articles and resources and while written by people with ME/CFS, it keeps all disabilities in mind. A lot of it is specific to the USA but even if you're from somewhere else, there are many guides that can still help you. Some really good ones are:

How to live a great disabled life- A guide full of resources to make your life easier and probably the best place to start (including links to some of the below resources). Everything from applying for good quality affordable housing to getting free transportation, affordable medication, how to get enough food stamps, how to get a free phone that doesn't suck, how to find housemates and caregivers, how to be homebound, support groups and Facebook pages (including for specific illnesses), how to help with social change from home, and so many more.

Turning a "no" into a "yes"- A guide on what to say when denied for disability aid/accommodations of many types, particularly over the phone. "Never take no for an answer over the phone. If you have not been turned down in writing, you have not been turned down. Period."

How to be poor in America- A very expansive and helpful guide including things from a directory to find your nearest food bank to resources for getting free home modifications, how to get cheap or free eye and dental care, extremely cheap internet, and financial assistance with vet bills

How to be homebound- This is pretty helpful even if you're not homebound. It includes guides on how to save spoons, getting free and low cost transportation, disability resources in your area, home meals, how to have fun/keep busy while in bed, and a severe bedbound activity master list which includes a link to an audio version of the list on Soundcloud

Master List of Disability Accommodation Letters For Housing- Guides on how to request accommodations and housing as well as your rights, laws, and prewritten sample letters to help you get whatever you need. Includes information on how to request additional bedrooms, stop evictions, request meetings via phone, mail, and email if you can't in person, what you can do if a request is denied, and many other helpful guides

Special Laws to Help Domestic Violence Survivors (Vouchers & Low Income Housing)- Protections, laws, and housing rights for survivors of DV (any gender), and how to get support and protection under the VAWA laws to help you and/or loved ones receive housing and assistance

Dealing With Debt & Disability- Information to assist with debt including student loans, medical debt, how to deal with debt collectors as well as an article with a step by step guide that helped the author cut her overwhelming medical bills by 80%!

There are so many more articles, guides, and tools here that have helped a lot of people. And there are a lot of rights, resources, and protections that people don't know they have and guides that can help you manage your life as a disabled person regardless of income, energy levels, and other factors.

World Book Night

Get lost in an adventure, a romance, a mystery…whatever you like. Gather a group, volunteer at an event, or just take some time to enjoy a book on World Book Night.

Most everyone agrees that reading is vital for a child’s growth! But with all the challenges and difficulties of adulthood, many people in the prime of their lives hardly have any spare time to read. The factors present in why people don’t read can range from a lack of time to poverty to mental health concerns.

But reading is definitely important to read because of how much relief it provides from the difficulty and stress of the everyday world. Reading inspires people and educates people about the world around them, and can also function as an escape that relieves stress.

However, not everyone can see the benefits that reading can provide.

World Book Night aims to change the way adults view reading by encouraging them to take the time to read during the night–and to give away free books!

History of World Book Night

World Book Day has been around for some time now, offering extra opportunities and encouragement for children to read more books. However, because World Book Day existed for children, some people were motivated to put World Book Night together as a time for adults to read more books.

World Book Night began back in 2011 in the United Kingdom and Ireland, when Jamie Byng, MD of Canongate, conceived of the idea. It came to be after he had discussed it the previous year with various people who were present at the Book Industry Conference. The idea created another way for adults to take time out to read more and the day became a rousing success in its first decade.

In 2012, the day moved from March (which is still associated with children’s World Book Day) to April to coincide with UNESCO’s International Day of the Book. Then, in 2012 and 2013, the holiday grew and began to be celebrated in the United States. Over 50,000 people gave books to others on this day!

In late 2013, World Book Night benefited by becoming part of the Reading Agency, which is an organization focused on helping and encouraging others to read more books. Each year, books are given to people in hospitals, prisons, libraries, colleges, homeless shelters, and their communities through the Reading Agency and World Book Night.

The giveaway for these books has helped bookstores sell more books and continue their businesses. Volunteers go around their local communities and give away books, encouraging others to read and grow in their knowledge of the world.

All together, World Book Night is responsible for a whole host of people giving and getting books–and hopefully reading them as well!

How to Celebrate World Book Night

Celebrating World Book Night can be a fun and adventurous activity. Whether alone or joined together with a band of avid readers (or wannabe readers!), enjoy World Book NIght in these creative ways:

Volunteer and Participate in a World Book Night Event

Volunteer at a local reading library or bookstore to see about celebrating World Book Night and help give away some free books. Check in to see if the local community is hosting any events related to World Book Night. If there aren’t any, don’t be afraid to start one.

The World Book Night website offers access to resources for those who want to host their own book night events, including social media resources, print logos and guidelines.

Give Away Books for Free

Give books to those in a hospital, a care center, a homeless shelter, or a child daycare center. Check with a local bookstore to see if they’ll help arrange to give away some books to a good cause. To make it more affordable, books can be ordered in bulk online, purchased at a used bookstore, or even collected from thrift stores or garage sales. Reading used books is a great way to enjoy the written word and contribute to helping protect the planet.

Sit Down and READ

Of course, the entire sentiment of the day will be lost if people are only involved in World Book Day activities but don’t ever actually take the time to sit down and read a book! So be sure to also take the time to read a book late into the night and relax.

Technically, the ‘reading hour’ on World Book Night is considered to be from 7-8pm. The great thing about this is that, if people all over the world are reading during this time in their own time zones, then the ‘reading hour’ will last for a very long time as it moves around the planet!

For those who aren’t sure what to read, World Book Night offers a reading list each year that can help make recommendations or give ideas for what to read next.

Share Reading with Family and Friends

Reading doesn’t have to be a lonely activity! Try out these ideas for sharing this day with friends and family:

Recommend a favorite book to others and share the love of reading with everyone.

Ask friends, family or coworkers what their favorite books are and then discuss them.

Start a personal library of favorite collections of books and share those books with others to encourage more reading.

Join in on a book club or reading group–or start one if there isn’t one that already exists.

Host a quiz night with friends that centers around a literary theme.

What progress at home has biden enacted? What policies of his show that he is making progress that prove he is actually different than trump?

I like to pretend I have faith in humanity, so I'll answer as if you're asking this in good faith.

Biden's DEA has lifted restrictions on telehealth prescriptions to make appointments and assistance more accessible.

He put a funding package into place to help unhoused people get access to mental and physical healthcare, as well as short-term and long-term housing.

He has attempted and is still attempting to get student debt relief through - this was blocked by Republican judges appointed by Trump, but he's still working on it.

Infrastructure repair - his administration has budgeted funds to actually fix some severely-damaged and frequently-traveled bridges.

Trying to expand access to healthcare to include undocumented immigrants who came to the USA as children (Dreamers) under the Affordable Care Act. Support for Navigator programs and outreach has also been increased.

He has vetoed Republican-led bills that were attempting to overturn environmental protections - one that would have forbidden investment fund managers to consider climate change in their portfolios (I have two degrees in accounting and this is actually huge), and another that would have overturned restrictions on agricultural runoff into our waterways.

He and his administration worked for ages to get rail workers paid sick days.

This is just some of what he's been doing. Meanwhile, Trump and other Republicans want to criminalize the lives of LGBT people like you and me. They want to eliminate no-fault divorce and force births that will kill parents or devastate them financially. They have stated flat out that they want to install a military dictatorship in the USA. They attempted to put that in motion on January 6th, 2021. They failed once. They will do better next time.

One party wants to house the homeless and expand social safety nets, while the other one wants to criminalize homelessness. One of them wants a future in which I might be able to vote to change how much of a war machine my country is, while the other one wants to eliminate my ability to vote entirely. Those are not the same. Those literally are opposites.

At the end of the day, all you and I can do is choose to do the least amount of harm possible. You and I cannot choose to do no harm. This is the USA, we sell war, you and I cannot choose to do no harm. I wish we could, my god do I wish we could, but that is not an option. So we grieve for the harm we couldn't eliminate and work to minimize the harm that is done. Despite all the crap they support, Democrats are the minimum amount of harm right now. Acting like they aren't is exactly what brought us to an election where our options are a future where we are either wading in blood or drowning in it.

Not voting for Biden will not help Palestine. Not voting for Biden will guarantee a Republican president who will make the situation in Palestine WORSE. AND it'll hurt a lot of other places as well, both at home and abroad, because Republicans are about business and the USA is in the business of war! And I would very much like that to change someday! I would very much like to someday be able to choose to do no harm! And I know what I have to do to try for that future, so what are YOU going to do? There is no standing off to the side in this. If you aren't helping pull, you're the dead weight we're pulling. Are you going to dig your feet into the mud and blood and drown us there? Or are you going to get the fuck off your ass, grit your teeth, and help us pull free?
