My headcanon is that this dress was actually his sister Bianka's, and the painting in the background in one panel of the manga is actually her. He looks similar to his older sister, and ties his hair that way because she tied it so. My headcanon is that he and Bianka inherited the Apocalypse family's blonde hair, while their siblings inherited the Schariac family's white hair. This somehow has something to do with Dudu's hair, that went from white to blonde when she took Bianka's name.

I’ve been meaning for a while to make a post on Grelle’s truly glorious multi-layered Japanese puns, starting with “moist and tender moments” since this panel is still in my camera roll. Her original line is “shippori,” which has three possible meanings. One of my favorite unofficial translations of this panel went with “wet and cozy,” which, while certainly evocative, only encompasses two of the three. To add to the moistness, this panel takes place in Bath.
I firmly believe that the amount of time between Grelle’s appearances in the manga correlates to how long it takes Yana to pack that many layers of wordplay into her dialogue (the example from the Campania is just as amazing XD)

Lets talk about this (because my friend told me apparently ppl on twitter are losing their shit about it).
I realize that these requests seem kinda strict. In particular I find the "no anime vs manga comparisons" a little silly, also the "no unofficial translations bc they might not convey the author's intent" is hilarious bc its not like YP's TLs are all that great at conveying the author's intent either lmao.
However.
Ya'll need to understand that this is Harusono-sensei's content that she is choosing to share with us. This is not open-source material for us all to play around with as we like. Harusono-sensei has asked multiple times for people to not edit her content and post it where she can see it and mfs keep ignoring her and doing as they please. I know we live in an era where people feel entitled to use others' works for their own gain, but yall need to remember that there is a real human being who created this work and respecting her wishes is the LEAST we can do to show our gratitude.
And yes, I'm aware that I'm also breaking the rules! I'm not saying everyone has to follow these requests to a T. But for god's sake be judicious about it!!! I started the kghr tl back before we knew it was going to be localized and I'm posting it in a place where Harusono-sensei and associated staff are never going to see it. I'm not selling it either. If you wanna color the manga panels, do so, and then keep them on your hard drive, set them as your lock screen, send them to your friends, post them in discord servers with a no-repost request. You don't have to post them on twitter with the tags. You don't have to post screenshots of the manga on instagram to farm likes. "Don't use my work, edit it slightly, and then post it on the internet for clout" is actually a very reasonable request. Hell, they even announced an offical twitter tag you can use on original fanworks!! They're not saying you can't make any fanworks at all, they literally just do not want you to manipulate the official content.
tl;dr I get that these rules seem strict but if you think about it without being selfish for a minute they're actually pretty reasonable, and if you're going to break them, do so PRIVATELY, NOT to rake in social media clout.

wait, why do you look for leaks? or do you just accidentally stumble upon them sometimes and overthink about the implications?
So “leaks” in manga terms aren’t really the same as like “LEAKS” for the western cartoon peeps. The leaks for MHA come out late tuesday nights and are just about everyone’s first impressions of what happens in the next chapter. Basically you’ll get a synopsis plus some pictures of the manga panels. People like @pikahlua will do some unofficial translations of the panels and that gives English readers the best idea of what is being said until the officials come out on sundays! Reason I make sure I’m there for leaks is because of hype lol. English readers who are invested will be ready on Twitter when they drop and the hard thing is that waiting for the actual chapter to come out loses you the anticipation of waiting with everyone as the chapter slowly gets synopsised over an hour. It’s excruciating and extremely exciting waiting for the next tweet that could mean life or death of your favorite characters. Super fun! The community coming together every Tuesday is so much fun and seeing the unofficial translations afterward can be so interesting. Sometimes the translator is right on with the fans and sometimes they miss some context. So therefore leaks are basically just the chapter released. That’s why I’m nervous 😩

The older among you might recall the days where the only way to read your favourite unpopular manga was to rely on some random fellow on the Internet to provide it through the incomparable medium of "scanlations." That is to say, poorly scanned pages from a physical copy they somehow owned subsequently localized through the power of Grit, Determination and Google Translate. Right about now, your bones should have begun turning to dust. Before you're gone from this world, however, please consider holding on for a while longer as I share my last archived tweets on the subject of Fluffy Boy Literature. As you might have guessed, the covered works belong within the domain of fan-translated scans and, as such, they occupy a very specific, very niche place in that befuddling collective unconscious we all know as The Web. In layman terms, stuff's about the get wacky.

I shall not rag too hard on the obviously unprofessional translation work here - it was done by a fan, after all. The awkward lettering and sentence repetition give it the distinct charm of something decisively made in the early days of "Scanlationns."

Which is a surprisingly good fit to the adorably simple art style that was also drawn by a fan. I do like the sibling dynamic between Klonoa and Huepow, whereas the latter acts as an impatient older brother to the former. Grandpa reprimanding them at the end is the icing on top of this fluff cake.

There isn't much else to say: it is a short, fifteen pages long doujinshi and it's pure slice-of-life. It is all it wanted and needed to be.

As an addendum: the existence of the Namco x Capcom anthology manga, based off the Japanese-exclusive gaming crossover of the same name, has been made known to me. I've read the only Klonoa centric comic from it and it's just one dumb, obnoxiously protracted joke. I don't care for this.

I have been postponing the inevitable for far too long. This is Shippuu Tengoku Kaze no Klonoa (2002-2003) by Hiroshi Katou as questionably, yet valiantly, scanslated by powerstone05. It is the most "renowned" official literature within the Klonoa community.

This manga is a fast-paced, madcap comedy - emphasis on fast-paced. It moves at a speed of a million kilometers per hour, constantly shooting visual gags at your face on almost every panel without any proper sense of pacing and with flimsily established setups.

The translation does not help but it's clear that this lack of focus and breathing time between jokes is an intrinsic issue. Frankly, I find this brand of "Machine Gun Humour" exhausting to read. I'd much prefer my comedy to be akin to a shotgun: powerful and deliberate.

On the other hand, I enjoy the artwork. Take a look at this delightfully detailed two page spread of pure wanton destruction, capped by Klonoa's comically traumatized features.

Right! This manga is turning into a "Looney Tunes" short and I'm starting to warm up to it. Katou has a clear penchant for slapstick humour. The propeller hat made me chuckle.

I finished reading the whole thing - well, skimming would be the appropriate term. It's a tiresome little deviation that could not quite distract me from its flaws. There isn't anything worth noting as all the over-the-top, frenetically paced gags tends to blend together.

With that, I have successfully covered all the major, currently available comic book media related to Klonoa: a thoroughly mixed bag, overall.

The fan-made web series Dream Crusaders sits atop the proverbial hill even with its troublesome connection to the insipid Sol Noctis storyline. Everything else is various degrees of forgettable or insubstantial.

'Tis an unsurprising result considering how hard to follow the games are - the first two games, that is. Regardless, this was an illuminating experience in its own right from the perspective of how malleable (or not at all) this franchise can be. Thanks for reading.

As a posthumous note, there was a final piece of literature worth mentioning to you, an officially licensed short manga that served as promotional material, introduction and basic tutorial for the 2009's Nintendo Wii remake of the first game, Klonoa: Door to Phantomile. The comic is readily available online if you're curious about it.

Where to Find Doraemon in English
Without a doubt, one of the main reasons that Doraemon is generally unknown in the English-speaking world is that most of the franchise is not widely available in English. However, English versions of some Doraemon media do exist, and in this post I will review how to obtain several of them. The “core components” of the franchise considered here are the original manga (1969–1996), the classic anime series (1979–2005), and the rebooted anime series (2005–present).
A selection of Doraemon manga chapters have been translated into English as a 10-volume series. These volumes were released as educational material to help Japanese speakers learn English, so they also include the original Japanese text printed above the manga panels. All the volumes in the series can be ordered from Japanese Amazon, which does ship internationally, at least to many places.

A second English series of selected manga chapters has been released in a similar format, though this time as six volumes and organized by specific themes. The stories compiled in this series do not overlap with those in the previous one, so both can be read without encountering any duplicate chapters. These volumes can also be ordered from Japanese Amazon.

An even greater range of manga chapters has actually been localized into English... however, these are only available on Kindle in the United States and Canada.

An English dub of the 2005 anime series aired in the USA between 2014–2015, covering 95 individual stories (52 half-hour episodes). It has not been officially released on home media or streaming services, but can be found archived online. From what little I’ve seen, the dubbing itself appears to be reasonably well done, though it should be noted that this dub contains numerous edits meant to "Americanize" the content, so it is quite heavily modified from the Japanese original.

A different English dub of the 2005 series aired in the UK between 2015–2016. It includes some episodes that were not adapted for the American dub (and vice versa). However, it has not been released on home media either and many of the episodes are currently lost, which I find surprising given how recently it was on air. In fact, the complete list of episodes it includes is apparently unconfirmed, though it has been inferred that it most likely consists of the first 26 episodes from the Japanese version. In any case, surviving episodes from this dub have been archived online. I also haven’t watched much of it, but the voices seem fine and it contains far fewer edits to the original material compared to the US dub. As far as official Doraemon English dubs with accessible full episodes go, this one is probably the most faithful to the Japanese version. (It even dubbed the theme song!)

Two movies, Stand by Me Doraemon and Stand by Me Doraemon 2, are currently on at least American and British Netflix with English dubbing (featuring the voice cast from the US English dub) and subtitling available. I’m not the biggest fan of these films (especially the first one) and don’t recommend them as an entry point into the franchise, though plenty of Doraemon fans would probably disagree with me on that point.

Despite the relative obscurity of Doraemon in most of the Anglosphere, there is actually a long and complex history of Doraemon English media beyond what I’ve described above. If you’re interested in learning more, here is a detailed video series on that subject!
As for unofficial translations, all I’ll say is that fanmade English subtitles of variable quality exist for the remaining Doraemon movies (excepting this year’s movie that, as of the time of writing, was just released in Japanese theaters) and some episodes of both the 1979 and 2005 series. There are even fanmade English dubs of a few episodes out there. However, numerous episodes (especially from the 1979 series) remain unavailable in English in any capacity. Maybe one day...

Jin tells everyone the base was the home of a former demon clan many years ago which explains the vast amount of space inside, but I can’t imagine them using human tools and instruments so I assume those were brought in by the supporters.

To this day I still prefer how unofficial scans had Hayato ask for the leader instead of Emma specifically. Makes this interaction between her and Oliver a bit more meaningful as if he’s confirming that she is indeed the leader of the group over someone like himself and still respecting her as such.

With how impressive the manga conveys how spacious and grand paradise is, I can only imagine how spectacular it could’ve been in the anime.. but of course we only got one panel during that stupid ending slideshow and it was just of the paradise kid’s being excited of Norman returning.

Rising back from the dead to review Udon’s English release of the P4A manga, because I love P4A, I love the P4A manga, and I hate this book.
I’ve been a big fan of Persona 4 Arena for a while now, so I was really excited when Udon announced an official English release of its manga adaptation. I’d read the unofficial translation a couple of times, and I felt that it adapted the story well, especially given the unusual way that P4A presents its story. The first volume was originally going to be released in February of this year, but was delayed until May for no specified reason. I was finally able to get my hands on it today, and oh boy does it suck. Oh FUCKING boy it does it suck.
In this post, I will be talking about why that is, not just to vent, but also to warn anyone who might be thinking of buying this. I’ve even included pictures. Please enjoy (because I’m not).
Let’s jump right in.
The dialogue is so unnaturally wordy that makes regular conversation very awkward, and ruins the comedic timing of almost every joke.
For example, compare this scene with the one from the unofficial translation. First, the unofficial:

Words words words. You don’t need that many words.
And it’s not just with that panel; you’d be hard-pressed to find a single text bubble that doesn’t use at least three more words than it needs to. For example:

How hard is it to just say “Sounds fun.”??
Then, we have an issue that you may have already noticed from the examples above. Scenes that were taken directly from the game are completely re-translated, and are often nothing like what they’re supposed to be. The Midnight Channel cutscene is a glaring example of this. (I can’t post the whole scene because of the picture limit, but these are the highlights. If I had to read “eat my powerful dragon kick”, then you do too.)

Given that they play this cutscene in almost every story episode, I think I remember what it’s supposed to sound like, and it’s not this.
There’s other little things too, like calling Naoto “she” in a scene where she is most definitely meant to be referred to as “he”.

All of this would be bad enough, but it’s nothing compared to the book’s biggest sin.
So, if you’re aware of P4A, then you’ll probably be aware of a character named Labrys. If you’re aware of the English version of P4A, then you probably already know that it makes the interesting decision of localising her Kansai accent as a Brooklyn accent. The reason why this is an interesting decision is because, typically, Kansai accents are converted to Southern US accents for English dubbing, so the use of a Brooklyn accent is quite notable. One possible reason for this is because Persona 4 is already set in rural farming town, and her accent is (one of the things that are) meant to make her seem out of place, so using a Brooklyn accent is far more effective than using a Southern US accent (which would commonly be associated with rural farming towns).
Whatever the reason was, however, doesn’t change the fact that her accent is supposed to be unlike anything around it, otherwise the other characters making particular note of it wouldn’t make sense. And yet…

Oh Lordy Lou indeed, Labrys. Oh Lordy Lou indeed.
I was so excited for these books. I had even considered buying the Japanese release before the English version was announced. The art is nice, the little fragments of each story episode were chosen and interweaved well, it has Labrys in it, it was accurate… what more could you want from a video game adaption?
I’m not sure I’ve ever been more insulted by a book in my life. I want to burn it. Genuinely. I have no idea what to do with this thing. I kept trying to get through it despite all its issues, but it just kept getting worse. My god, if I had just stopped reading halfway through, I could have spared my eyes (and sanity) from Yee-Haw Labrys. Why did I not?!?!
Do not make the same mistake I did. Please. You don’t deserve this.
TL;DR: This book saved me £25.98 during the cost-of-living crisis by being absolutely unbearable to read. I’m so glad I didn’t preorder the other two volumes before I read this one. Go read the unofficial translation on a manga piracy site if you want to read this manga. Or, just play P4A. Just don’t buy this book.

MHA on Twitter - Part 1 (Manga & Spin-Offs)
Other than endless shipping wars and discourse, Twitter is also a genuinely great source of information on My Hero Academia - because a lot of the Japanese creators involved are active there.  As several people have asked me for the sources I use for my posts, I figured someone may find it useful if I summarize them here. 
Manga
The starting point is of course Horikoshi’s official Twitter account.  He uses it basically only to post his Twitter sketches and retweet (very selectively) some promotion. As far as I know, this is Horikoshi’s only social media presence and he doesn’t make media appearances. @makeste​ made a compilation of different Horikoshi interviews.

@myheroacademia is the official Twitter of the manga, though they are terrible at putting out info, like volume cover art first. But still, it is a useful resource. They retweet the BNHA-info from  @jump_henshubu (which is the official account of Weekly Shonen Jump)
#ヒロアカ is the main hashtag of all things MHA. 
@shonenjump  is the account for the official EN publication by VIZ.  
Shonen Jump News - Unofficial  is a fan account with tons of information about upcoming content, author comments, sales data, etc. 
The EN translator, Caleb Cook has a Twitter account where he used to post his chapter trivia, but stopped it due to fandom drama. The account is now inactive. 
Spin-Offs
Another account worth following is Akiyama Yoco’s (creator of Team-Up Mission, and longtime assistant of Horikoshi). Team-Up Mission is published monthly in Saikyo Jump (Twt:  @SAIKYO_JUMP) and Akiyama has been lately drawing also a lot of the promotional art. In her Twitter, she does lovely promo sketches, both for TUM and for the main Manga.

The recently finished Vigilante spin-off creators  Hideyuki Furuhashi and  Betten Court  (@bet10co10) also both have Twitter account. Though now with the series ending, they will probably moving onto new projects. 
BNHA Smash!  was created also an ex-assistant of Horikoshi, Hirofumi Neda  (@dorori_k) who is also very active on Twitter, though is not involved with BNHA anymore. 
Another ex-assistant is Noguchi (@nstime23) who is now working on his own manga, but still actively posts BNHA sketches (mostly Mirko and Decchan drawings).
I’ll add for the sake of completeness that the writer of School Briefs is Anri Yoshi, but I don’t believe he has a Twitter presence.

Swampcon was an interesting experience. I went on Saturday afternoon with my friend, and we stayed there a couple of hours. When we got there, I was extremely surprised by how many were there. This was my first time attending a convention, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. There were a lot of people in really detailed and accurate cosplay of various characters. My favorite one was easily anyone cosplaying as the angel devil from Chainsaw Man (easily best character sorry). Also really loved all of the kurapika cosplayers. There were so many people cosplaying there that I almost felt out of place with my tshirt and shorts. As we talked about during our discussion of Genshiken: they take fiction that it our there and transform it into fiction that is theirs alone. Through this medium of fan culture, people were brought together to share their interests in various types of media.
I wasn’t able to go to the panels that I really wanted to go to since I woke up late. However, I was able to go to “How to get a rizztraining order” and it was something !!! First off, I really enjoyed this panel and how hilarious it was, but it really showcased how many creeps are out there. This panel showed different instances of men leaving gross and inappropriate comments on cosplayer’s pages and messages. Unfortunately, this side of the fandom is the one that gets the most attention from those outsides of this fandom. I know before getting into anime, I was (unfortunately) someone who was predisposed against it just because of weirdos like them, who end up tainting society’s perception of fandom.
This was sadly the only panel I was able to attend, but I still had an amazing time at the vendor corner. I’ll be honest and say I am the craziest shopaholic. I am always buying the most random and unnecessary things online or at target, so I knew it was going to be hard to resist buying stuff at Swampcon. Thankfully, I was there with my friend, and he was my voice of reason, so I ended up only spending $15 on a Cinnamoroll headband and got gifted Kirby earrings :D I loved seeing all of the different prints, charms, stickers, and figures that were on display. TBH I almost caved and bought a $250 Mikasa figurine because she solos. Seeing so many different types of products really made me realize how big consumer culture is. Fandom is an example of unofficial culture capital. We all buy these little fun or cute objects that don’t really translate into any economic benefits. We buy them because they make us happy and we can show these items to others that also enjoy them. These little (but very expensive) items bring us so much joy because it materializes fictional characters that we all enjoy and love. I like to think that I have some self control when it comes to fandom consumer culture, but then again I do have a full drawer full of anime shirts and a whole shelf with manga and small anime figures. :/
Overall, Swampcon was a really interesting and enjoyable event! It was really cool being in a safe and comfortable environment filled with zero judgment. It’s crazy how people come from all over the state, and even from other states to be able to attend this convention. I was able to meet others who share the same interests for even the most obscure and random animes that I have watched. I would love to attend next year and see what new things it will have to offer.
