I’ve discovered that I like to copy the way that people speak and their mannerisms. Like if I like the way someone does/says something I will adapt the way I do it to be more like that.
I do this with David Tennant a lot and I learned from my sister pointing it out that it is quite obvious. An example is when David Tennant (Crowley) is speaking and he does the low bit where his neck kinda goes in and like yeah; I’ve started to talk like that sometimes. And the speed talking and the way he walks.
The start of this video is what I’m talking about with the voice thing.

there's something ive noticed while reading the epilogues that i find really interesting. im not sure if this makes sense, but each ranger has a distinct voice that goes with their internal monologue. im going with chen and ortega for my examples since theyre just the easiest to notice but
Tumblr media
with chen, his thought process tends to be more clipped. its more curt and to the point, opting more for shorter, simple sentences
Tumblr media
meanwhile ortegas thoughts tend to be very,,,,i forgot the actual phrase im searching for, but long-winded. thoughts will wander and then get pulled back into focus at very random intervals, sometimes the sentences will be short, sometimes long, and there are a lot of run-ons and tangents as the thoughts crop up
it just adds that much more to their character yk? chen's inner monologue feels blunt and succint. there's no point beating around the bush with him. he feels more careful. and yeah, ofc ortegas thoughts go just as fast as their mouth. there's no time to breathe, things go a million miles a minute for them. looking at their thought process, its really easy to understand how they get so antsy so easily. idk its just. super fun to compare them and see how they think affects their character

okay. this fucking picture made me so mad i went on a 15 minute rant to my sister while she was trying to read her book.
so ive been looking at a lot of pictures of posts on pinterest because thats just where i spend most of my time. most of these posts are on the topic of adhd. ive never been properly diagnosed, but reading through these posts has made me feel so welcomed and understood (more than my parents have made me feel, pretending that this is "all just a phase that ill get over soon because pretending to have adhd is just the thing right now") that i realized ON MY OWN that "hey maybe i do have adhd." well.
Tumblr media
i found this post while scrolling through pinterest, and it really sparked my anger.
i have a friend who was diagnosed with add before it was considered an "outdated" term and scrapped because apparently ALL FUCKING FORMS OF NEURODIVERGENCY THAT ARENT AUTISM ARE JUST "ADHD".
i read this post and it was what sparked my anger and my 15 minute rant to my sister. people who get degrees in this stuff, or counselors at schools, never really know what youre going through. all they know is that youre having some problems and they need to be solved.
Tumblr media
which brings me back to this picture. if you look up "is add still a thing" on google, this is the first picture to pop up. and just seeing the visual aids they put with it makes me furious enough to throw something or someone out a fifth story window. the little girl is fucking SMILING while thinking about the most common shit people think us neurodivergent folks think when distracted. first off, no. false. we dont just think of video games and candy. we think of the randomest shit possible, like how long can i sit here without blinking or what kind of funny shit can i draw on this one sheet of paper.
and ALSO.
you cant just categorize adhd as TWO SEPARATE THINGS and call it good. we dont fit under two umbrellas. theres too many of us. we each have our own figurative umbrellas that only we ourselves can fit under, no one else. thats the problem with neurotypicals. they fit the typical stereotype for humans: we try to understand everything by putting it in a box. those lists of "symptoms"? i match every single one. on both sides. so ha. take that SCIENTISTS. what am i? some kind of freak of nature because i dont fit under just ONE of your precious categories?
i also looked up what "inattentive" means and it made me angrier. according to oxford languages, "inattentive" means "not paying attention to something", which doesnt seem too bad, right? it fits some people perfectly with their symptoms, right? but its not the definition that bugs me. its the example sentence thats used. "a particularly dull and inattentive student". basically saying that if you dont pay attention well to something, youre dull and boring.
im sorry, what? sometimes i have trouble paying attention, sure, but you ask any of my friends and they can agree i am NOT boring in any way, shape, or form. non of them would describe me as "dull". inattentive? sure, but not dull. so to call it "inattentive" adhd, instead of just add, is stupid! my friend with ADD (not fucking adhd, stupid scientists) is one of the funniest, most entertaining people ive ever met. shes an incredible artist, super smart, and knows how to make anyone laugh. does that sound dull to you? does she have problems focusing sometimes? yes. does she struggle with doing something sometimes? yes. but dont the rest of us?
my point is, when i see things like this, it pisses me off. like, unless all of the scientists who agreed "add" is an outdated term have it themselves, i refuse to believe its outdated and i will continue to say that my friend has it. she was literally diagnosed by the doctor telling her "you have attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder without the hyperactivity." THATS JUST FUCKING ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER YOU DUMBASS!!!
anyway, i hope im not the only one who feels this way. i just felt it necessary to get this out there. maybe someday, people wont be so dumb and single minded. in my opinion, neurodivergent people are superior in intellect and creativity, but i guess until someone like that takes over the world and dropkicks neurotypicals into the stratosphere, we'll never know.

hello hello hello, i come bearing headcanons for my dearest octoagents <3 the old mens™
angst cw for some of em, woops- (mentions/descriptions of anxiety, and implied trauma)
Natquik:
the Antarctica Incident had a much greater toll on him than he realizes. he's just ✨ Fine™ ✨ y'know? nbd <3 (he's not fine somebody please hug him-)
has a Thing about things breaking/not working. it causes him to immediately panic and have a million thoughts rush through his head about how he'll survive the weather, how much food he has, etc., even if it's something small.
he also doesn't like being alone for too long. you'd think he'd be "used to it", but nope.
but on the bright side: contrary to popular belief, he wasn't completely alone while trapped. he befriended a lot of penguins. mostly against his will, but still.
1000000000% views Barnacles as his son but he'll never admit it.
so gosh darn fluffy. basically canon but yeah. aside from the adorableness it's kinda a burden because he'd probably overheat really fast if he left his station.
fluent in Russian, and used to have a habit of muttering Impolite Words™ under his breath—until reuniting with a grown-up Barnacles who picked up some Russian in his worldly travels. now he only does it in private.
he watched the great penguin race. he saw and/or heard Barnacles there, but wasn't sure if it was him. they left before he worked up the courage had a chance to talk to them.
Calico Jack:
mmmmmmmmmm. undiagnosed autistic. masks really well but only among other pirates, who have completely different social rules and whatnot. he's struggling now because he doesn't know how to mask anymore. he doesn't need to, because literally all the Octonauts are neurodivergent, but pshh
he's going through a redemption arc in his head. no one else knows about it because everyone likes him already and thinks he's great, but he can't see that.
his leg will start to hurt really bad if he runs on it too much—he tries to avoid it if he can, but sometimes he's stubborn, or just forgets (until it's too late).
three words: phantom limb syndrome.
has anxiety and gets nightmares. he's good at hiding it, but sometimes a really bad one will bother him for a day or two.

wrote hundreds of letters to Kwazii when he was in the Amazon, but never sent them. he still wants to give them to him one day.
his eyepatch used to be covering the opposite eye—that's why Kwazii's is on that side, and why his statue (slime eels) and mini carving (pirate parrotfish) both have it on the wrong way. he switched it over when he left to hide live in the Amazon.
Marsh:
genuinely forgets that he's green sometimes. someone will comment on it and he'll be like "????? oh right–"
sings; he used to make up road trip songs with Tweak when she was little. he still knows them all by heart.
slightly hard of hearing (for rabbit standards). hi @timegays. you did this to me /pos
Him 🤝 Barnacles: separation anxiety and a secret fear of storms. i will not elaborate further <3
highkey a dad to 90% of the Everglades creatures. every single one of them is like family to him.
he grew up side-by-side with a lot of the older swamp critters (Belle The Turtle, & maybe Flo The Flamingo), he considers them like his siblings.
his first name is literally "Ranger": he had it legally changed, so that he and Tweak (who decided to go by "Tweak" when she got into engineering) could both be named after their interests.
unintentionally inspired Tweak's engineering special interest. that motorboat he has in The Alligator-Shark? it used to break down constantly, until he taught her how to fix it. she fixed it ONCE and it never broke down again. it gave her such a rush of euphoria that she went around fixing everything, and eventually building new things. and she just,, never stopped.

understimulation tips!
understimulation is a feeling experienced by many neurodivergent people, and is the opposite of overstimulation. in my personal experience, it is a numb feeling, and often my senses feel like they aren't working enough. it makes me crave sensory experience, otherwise i feel hollow.
okay now onto some tips for coping >:]
it doesn't last forever. i know this is kind of basic, but it does go away after a while. please remember that it wont be like this for long.
try and do things that would usually make you overstimulated. it's kind of fun to play multiple songs at once, or touch things with unpleasant textures, or eat loads of weird tastes with lots of layers, or go and find a really big group of people or just scream into a wall. whatever makes you feel better :] side note: today it got so bad that at one point i dipped my kitkat in my soup just to have the textures and tastes blend into ANYTHING, so please don't worry if you think what you're doing is wrong.
i sometimes put really hot or really cold water on my hands. it kind of shocks me and i like the feeling of the senses coming back. be careful though, try not to burn yourself. it's easy to accidentally hurt yourself when you feel like this. that's okay, it takes time to feel better. i couldn't stop myself from clawing out some of my hair today. it wasn't a big amount of hair, but i still feel like i should have avoided it. it's okay, these things take time :}
listen to really really loud music. i like listening to songs with lots of layers of sound, to make me feel like there's something deeper than what i can hear. today i hid in the school bathrooms for a long time and listened to my 'understimulation' playlist, which i've never actually showed to anyone, but i'll add a link at the end of this post.
i also sometimes eat really spicy food, which can make my eyes water if i add enough to the food. i make really weird things spicy, like tea or salad. if the reason why you do it is making your eyes water, i get it. i poke myself in the eyes a lot when im alone, because honestly, i enjoy crying. it makes me feel like my feelings are more valid. whatever floats your boat ,my guy :}
i have some sensory issues related to sound and touch kind of merging in my head*, so i listen to songs with obnoxious textures. i know a few people with things like this and it helps if you're understimulated to use your other sensory issues (if you have any) to your advantage.
remember that your senses might not be feeling it, but you aren't emotionless. you can get through this, people love you, and it won't last forever. i love you <3 stay safe bitches.
*i think it's a form of synaesthesia, but i'm not sure.

Ted Lasso hcs bc I have so many....
Ted is autistic. There are zero allistic explanations for anything he does.
He also has ADHD
He's bi (I mean obviously) and he's known for a while. He just says he's straight bc he thinks it's easier to say that than to explain bisexuality to straight people who just don't get it.
Trent had no idea he was bi and is shocked to find out Ted has dated men.
Has body image issues (I love making fictional characters have all my problems)
Gets diagnosed with autism later in life. Everything starts to make a lot more sense to him after his diagnosis.
He snores in his sleep and is a blanket hog. The snoring doesn't bother Trent bc he also snores.
Kinda canon but he hates being angry. Like if he is angry at someone he feels like the worst person alive.
Also somewhat canon but he's an alcoholic. He starts working on it in therapy.
Legally adopts Trent's daughter. Ted loves her so much it kind of scares him at first.
THIS!!!! i remember i talked about ted being autistic with a friend before and how he went undiagnosed for soo long because people just thought it was some sort of quirk of his like his jokes that only a white middle aged man from kansas gets
