"And why would I do that? Has he forgotten, I am to walk the final mile this December, just in time to make the ferry across the River Styx. Oh, how I do hope he doesn't make me miss my boat. Someone is waiting on the other side for me."

"About that, Blackquill. If you accept, your Prosecutor's license will be reinstated until your death. And I have a feeling you may want to accept."

"And just why is that, Skye-dono?"

"It's about the assigned defense attorneys. The chief prosecutor believes that someone who waits for your boat isn't on the other side after all..."

Athena. Athena...

The chief thinks she's been alive all this time?

He clutched the court roster with his trembling left hand, the worn page of Athena's death certificate behind it.

Defense Co-Council - Dr. Athena Cykes, attorney at law

Legal Name of Deceased - Athena Venus Cykes

Summary of Co-Council - Immigrant from the States of the European Union, on work visa while immigration processes.

Manner of Death - Brain death related to traumatic injury; resuscitation failed

Notable Information - Some dead zones in the emotional lobe of her brain. Under observation. Age eighteen.

Age at Death - Eleven

Court Warning: Must always have co-council in case of seizure or stroke at the bench. Brain death advancing near life-regulating lobes. Seizures extremely likely, especially when stressed.

"S-she...-she had a seizure after being removed from your trial..."

Was it her? Could it be her? Aura was there when Athena died, Aura heard her stop breathing as all the light went out in her mind.

Solomon watched as they failed to bring her back.

Yuri got her death certificate from the hospital.

Could it all be wrong? Was his niece still alive? In the European States?

He'd required this meeting as a one condition before accepting his reinstated badge. But what if it wasn't her? What if it was some European doppelganger who had gone through the exact same trauma as his fallen niece, but survived? Someone else who just happened to be named Athena Cykes?

"Protector Blackquill, Doctor Cykes is here now."

He clutched Athena's death certificate to his chest one more time, soaking it in before he learned, in a few mere moments, whether it was true or not.

"Let her in."

"He's ready for you, Doctor Cykes."

"Thank you, Detective. But please, Miss Cykes is just fine. Doctor Cykes was my mother, God rest her soul."

That voice... He looked up at her.

Breath stopped, and he couldn't fight himself for new air.

Hip length hair, a beautiful and familiar orange, pulled back in a sideways ponytail that concealed everything above and behind her left ear. Bright blue, sparkling eyes full of hope...

Widget?! Metis' experimental holographic AI?!

What was Metis' AI doing around her neck?

He heard the air drop from her lungs as she locked eyes with him. Her eyes widened in fear.

That's when he lost control of himself. He lunged forward and took her in his grasp, pulling at the hair concealing where his niece had a scar.

"Protector Blackquill! What are you doing?! Unhand the defense now!" Detective Skye dropped a back of something that seemed to be called 'Snackoos' and whipped out a taser.

He didn't relent. He found exactly what he was looking for, exactly the wound that had been on his niece's head at 10am on October 8th, 2020.

She had Athena's scar.

She smelled like Athena.

She felt like Athena.

She curled up in his arms like Athena.

"U-uncle Simon...?"

She was Athena.

Athena was alive!

"Athena!" He clutched her tighter and tears burned out. He sniffled, then sorted once, then collapsed to the ground with her in his arms and sobbed. It was her, it was her, it's her. "Oh, Thena! Thena, it's you!"

She brushed her hands across his soaked checks, then frowned a little in concern. "Your heart is screaming, Simon. Are you okay?"

Those words broke his last strands of restraint, he squeezed her even closer and covered her forehead and temples in kisses.

"Simon, Simon! Uncle Simon!"

Her cries made him settle a little, and she instantly began wiping herself off with the deepest blush on her face. "Uncle Simon, what's wrong? You're unhinged."

He leaned his head a little closer, stopping once their heads were barely touching. "You've been dead, Thena... I've missed you so much." The tears started again and he handed Athena's death certificate to her.

She nearly toppled backward, and he braced her back just in case. "I'm dead?!"

"They gave this to Aura at 2:40-ish the day I was convicted. I thought you were dead... Aura said you had a hemorrhage on the stand and they couldn't bring you back..."

"Oh, Simon..." She leaned into his chest and held on. He observed just how she had changed. Biceps rippled through her suit, he felt her strength. The yellow bow in her hair was now blue, her moon necklace replaced by her mother's pocket AI. Yet, somehow, she was the same Athena; only stronger.

Skye gulped audibly, "Iiiii'm going to assume you to know each other?"

"This is my beloved niece, my greatest treasure. I called this meeting to make sure it was really her..."

"My uncle, Simon. Everything I have left."

"So the chief was right. She wasn't waiting for you on the other side."

"I don't want you to go. But you don't belong in this prison with me. You belong out in the world, free and happy. I assume your co-council is going to want you back sooner rather than later as well."

"Apollo and the boss could probably use me. I just got to the country, so I should probably make a good first impression."

"I want to hear everything later, but now we have work to do. Our story is not yet done."

She gave a gentle kiss to his forehead, brushing his graying hair back. "Of course... I love you, Uncle Simon."

After she left, he had one smug little goal to achieve. He trekked off to Solitary Cell 13, where a former defense attorney that had once rubbed salt in his wounds waited for the same fate as Simon. "Hey, Gavin. Come and talk like a man, instead of painting your pretty little nails."

"How crass, Blackquill. Have you no manners? I can't believe you and my brother will be working together. But what does your black little heart desire, hmm? Something of me, it seems."

"Just come over here, Gavin."

The drill-haired former lawyer had barely gotten within arm's reach when an objection nearly went up his nose. "Now what is the point of this, Blackquill? Looking to go out with one final bang, assault of a fellow murderer?"

"Not in the slightest, scumbag of lawyers. Just a little remark about seven years ago-" Simon shoved the court roster up into Gavin's face; so close the latter did not even need his glasses.

Ghosts of the Past

It was late... or, rather, it was early. It was around 11:55 or so, and Apollo was just trying to get a bit more work done. All was going well, things were calm, for about five minutes.

Apollo hadn’t even given the time much thought. He thought he’d heard the door creak open, but figured it was probably Datz coming in late or some such. Nothing unusual. What was strange was how Apollo felt a hand on his left shoulder.

Now, a hand on his shoulder wasn’t the strange part, but his left side was typically blocked off by a wall, with his bed behind him. Apollo turned to look at the hand, expecting to see Datz’s skin... only to see a skull-like scar on a fair-skinned hand.

Apollo jolted to a stand, a sharp, fearful gasp killing any scream that’d come out. He tried to back away, only to trip against his desk and fall back into the wall.

...

Nothing.

Nothing was there.

No one was there....

Apollo heaved a sigh, thinking he’d probably just imagined it. He should probably just go to bed. He turned back to his desk, ready to just sign off on those last few documents and then go to sleep when, “Justice.”

Apollo whipped around, throwing his chair to get Kristoph back and away from him, but... Apollo could swear he saw him... but he wasn’t there....

...

...Screw this. He needed to go to bed. He obviously needed the sleep....

Apollo turned off the light, placed a paperweight on top of the documents, so that they’d stay orderly over night as he walked across his room to go brush his teeth in the bathroom across the hall.

When he came back, something looked off, so he flicked the light along the wall, and.... a paper weight fell on the floor. He didn’t knock it over, did he? He certainly would have remembered, right? Surely.... Still, he opted to just pick it up and put it back. As he walked back to turn the light back off, he felt someone just inches behind him. It was uncomfortably familiar... but any time he looked over his shoulder, there was no one there.

He turned out the lights and--

“Are you satisfied, Justice?!”

“Yyyeowch!!”

He instantly flicked the lights back on, a burning sensation making itself known against his back. He ran to the bathroom and checked in the mirror, and sure enough, four bleeding scratches trailed down his back, as though he’d been attacked by some feral animal. “D-D-Datz?!” Apollo called, needing someone else’s opinion, because he was absolutely going crazy. It couldn’t be Kristoph-- he was dead. But then why was he getting visions and flashbacks to Vera Misham passing out from Atroquinine- oh fuck Atroquinine!

He needed to clean this out now!!

“Datz!”

He called, pounding on his bedroom door, but.... was he in the shower?! Who the hell takes a shower at midnight?!

AA Fic Rec

I've sunk on AA so bad. I have such a long list. Almost 100 on my bookmarks. Here is my attempt to organize my bookmark list. I know I created a list before But this is better. I'll start of with my general AA WrightWorth List fic recommendation I've bookmarked since I sunk into this rabbit hole. Buckle your seats because this post is going to be reaaaally loooong. I tried to clean it as much as possible. So if you guys are looking for some AA WrightWorth treasure trove, this is it. I'm sure there are some I've read and missed. I will update my list as much as possible. My summary is literally bare to none and just my spoilers and hints what I love about it so mmmuuuch!

Summary: Oh boy. Another monster fic that's just so worth it. Fluffy and ansty and fluffy. A betting game between Klavier and Miles on who can show their? defense attorney how much they appreciate them as a legal partner. Quoting Phoenix in this fic a pissing contest between the two of them. Has some Kpollo but really more of Wrightworth goodiness. Anyone who hasn't t read this is a crime.

It Would Feel So Good To Make You Mine - by hi_its_ellis and lowbatteryhealth

Summary: Love is War but WrightWorth style. Literally flirting contest, knowing all the rules without talking and just driving the entire LA crazy while they both wait for the other to confess. My all time favorite WrightWorth rom com insanity. I don't feel bad at all. It will make you laugh so much.

A Fool for You - by bluemoodblue

Summary: Engaged but at the same time did we get married 4 months before the wedding? And it's not Vegas! This is just so romcom and just so good and sweet. I won't say anymore!

Summary: Miles visits a local theater where he meets a very intriguing actor who seems so much like someone. Really, really good. This is just one of my favorite WrightWorth fics.

Project: Matchmakers - by WingSongHalo

Summary: Literally everyone shipping Wrightworth and a club shipping WrightWorth and trying to get them together. Really adorable. Many cute parts. It has 3 parts found here. You will love the proposal on part 2 and part 3 is cute and lovely due to many reasons.

Summary: AU AA magical universe Miles being a caseworker featuring Phoenix! Phoenix director of orphanage of magical pips. Really good!

Summary: From 7 Year gap through Spirit of Justice. There is so much angst here. Also cue the fluff and drama on AA4. You will love the way the writer handled the mess capcom made. I just love this fic due to some special moments. You will not regret reading this monster fic. Prepare all the tissues!

It's been a 6 months since my last list so here we go again! (I specified Ace Attorney in case I start doing this for other fandoms.) I originally planned to have all the old recs here as well but the list was too long so here's a link to the previous list. But that doesn't matter right now bc they're going to the theatre.

if you leave the light on- 7yg Wrightworth. Nothing can happen until it's over but something Keeps happening. Miles will wait as long as it takes and Trucy decides he's part of the family.

In The Dead Of Night- During the 7yg Edgeworth invites the Wrights to Europe. Trucy has a nightmare and 'Uncle Miles' comforts her.

Phoenix's List- After getting his badge back, Phoenix has some regrets and sets about fixing what he can.

Perfect- I actually found this on another fic rec list and I can see why it was their favorite. Set towards the end of the trial of Bridge to Turnabout. TW if you have memory issues, it might be a little hard to get through parts bc of all the mindfuckery. I have to be really vague here so as not to spoil it. (Wrightworth)

Apollo and the Artist (1975 - Oil paint, wax crayon, pencil, collage)- Rated M for mentioned sex reasons. Apollo is not an art person. But to Klavier he is art... and also a person. They've known each other for 8 years and it's probably been coming for just as long. It was a long time coming.

darling i'd wait for you (even if you didn't ask me to)- Wrightworth fake date bc Edgeworth needs a plus one to a wedding for some guy, it's not really important. But the cake sucks.

A Knight in a Loud Red Suit- oh my god oh my god oh my god Klavier gets shot and Apollo stabs a guy. And also love confessions at the hospital. They could have me also if they wanted.

Written- Rated E for sex reasons. Edgeworth moonlights as a Steel Samurai fic writer, and due to it being an obvious coping mechanism for his life and feeling Maya finds out... and accidentally sends a fic to Phoenix who... finds out. Half of the smut is Edgeworth's own fanfic, so we get like... fanfic-ception. That doesn't really work with more than one syllable words, huh...

Lover Be Good to Me- Rated M for implied sex reasons. 5+1 klapollo wooing each other.

Love Love Love- Rated M for implied sex reasons. klapollo is messy in a good way and takes wayyyy too long to call themselves boyfriends. Set from middle of aa4 to past aa6.

delicate- Rated M for sex reasons. klapollo is messy in a bad way (long distance is hard) and they break up but it works out, I prommy. If you don't like angst you'll want to skip this one, though.

(i was) enchanted to meet you- klavquill! I love them, I need to read more fics with them. They meet at the Prosecutor gala for the first time and sparks fly. Actually, they were fireworks, but that's not important.

Process of Elimination- Rated M for sex reasons. One day I will read a fic where Blackmadhi is not complicated as hell. Can they ever talk about their feelings? Apparently I like this, though, bc I keep reading and recc'ing them. Um, Nahyuta is looking for a fuck buddy and by 'process of elimination' ends up deciding on Blackquill but whoops! Feelings.

feel your skin- Rated M for one boner. Klavier is infuriating AND wearing lipgloss and Apollo can't take it. Cue making out in the janitor's closet.

moribund- I keep thinking about this one so I need everyone else to read and think about it with me. Pre Gant busting, POV Lana has to help clean up his messes. This a comedy, mostly of errors.

chronophobia- StarrSkye (AngelxLana) Be forewarned, you are going to cry. Lana has done her time and is trying to find a way to reconnect with the most important people from her past.

Crash! Landing- Junithena, fantastic traumatized autistic representation, if I do say so myself as a traumatized autistic person. It is very sweet and Juniper is a real one. I need me one of those.

In Pursuit of Justice- This one is not yet complete, but I preemptively j'adore'd it. It's a klapollo. Sebastian is great. He says Apollo looks like a frog (accurate).

Witcheln Woes- Secret Santa klapollo and they are cute and Clay is alive and it is sooooo fluffy.

Samurai Swear- Maya making besties with Edgeworth! Maya and Phoenix being besties also! Dash of mutual pining wrigthworth.

Missing You/Missing Time- Ok, hear me out, yes, the mystical bullshit tag is accurate, and de-aging is a weird concept, but !!! It actually serves this story very well! It is a fanfic that feels like a fanfic, but sometimes you want that, you know? Not every fanfic needs to feel like Little Women. Established klapollo first I love yous.

Celia Kang

Celia is Raina's best friend. Born in Mt. Komorebi, she always knew something was off about her. It didn't take long for the truth to come out as when she was 8, she had hit someone who was bullying her elementary school crush, which left them on the floor and a broken nose. Her father later revealed to her that she was a werewolf. You'd think something like that would scare her, but no. She was rather excited, though she was sent to Moonwood Mill to live with her uncle while her parents did some damage control. She quickly grew to love the outdoorsy vibe Moonwood Mill offered and when she graduated high school, she moved away from Mt. Komorebi to live in Moonwood Mill. She had been approached by Rory and later by Kristopher and Xander to join their respective packs. Celia preferred the rogue life and humbly refused, though she is a good friend of all three packs now. She met Raina a month after settling into Moonwood mill. Raina was friendlier to her than any other wolves in the town and they quickly became good friends over their love for the outdoors. They would occasionally go on walks along the trail and swim in the Moonwood lake during hot summer days.

Celia loved exploring the tunnels. She found a secret tunnel no one in Moonwood had apparently heard about. A tunnel that lead to a little bus stop.. The very tunnel she had used to get Raina out of Moonwood Mill undetected. If Celia wasn't outdoors, she was home doing some programming and exploring different places on Sim Maps, or working on a motorbike she had received as a 22nd birthday present.

These days, she's been avoiding Xander like the plague and trying to uncover what really happened the night of Aylin's accident.

5 + headcanon au - what if Larry Butz hadn't been forgotten/flanderized by the writers and instead was in all three games in the Original Trilogy (and maybe even beyond?)

This got a little away from me 😅 under the cut:

Phoenix isn’t the only one struggling with Edgeworth’s disappearance/faked death, Larry is too. It’s easy to forget, but Larry was Edgeworth’s best friend too, they cared about each other! Larry would be extra pissed because of the toll it’s taking on Phoenix—when they see Edgeworth again, it’s Larry who takes the first swing, surprising pretty much everyone. It’s one of the few times Larry loses his temper…and Edgeworth is surprisingly contrite because of it (he wasn’t contrite enough in 2-4 for my taste, and tbh I think being yelled at by Larry of all people would shock anyone into being apologetic)

Larry is pretty intuitive when he wants to be. While Phoenix dismisses Ini as airheaded, Larry would realize there’s something else underneath that (he knows what it’s like to be underestimated intellectually…and how someone might use that to hide something). He probably wouldn’t figure it all out, but Phoenix would still remember Larry’s words at a crucial point when he’s putting the pieces together about Ini and Mimi

On that note, I’m also intrigued as to his dynamic with Engarde—by all respects, Engarde’s front is very similar to how AA1 Larry acts. That could make for some very interesting situations when the two are forced to interact. Maybe Larry befriends him and is heartbroken to learn that Engarde was just faking. Maybe he was a Nickel Samurai fan too, extra sting (he and Maya would also bond over that because iirc she was a Nickel Samurai fan too. Idk if Edgeworth was). Maybe Engarde makes some jabs at Larry, and Phoenix furiously defends Larry’s honor, and it doesn’t feel like “oh great, I have to defend Larry again”, but rather, “how dare this guy insult my friend”—because yeah, I think Phoenix and Larry would’ve gotten closer and really bonded by this point. They were already besties, but Larry’s also showing how smart/intuitive he is lately

Larry would be able to help in the search for Maya! Granted, Shelly de Killer could still easily give them the slip, but it’s one more person, and Larry being involved would ease Phoenix’s nerves even more. Larry might be clumsy and awkward, but he cares fiercely about the people he loves, and lately, he’s been showing just how sharp he really is

Larry leaves post-AA2, much like Maya did post-AA1. This is because he got an internship with the mysterious Elise Deauxnim, and he really wants to take it, as much as he also wants to stay and help. Phoenix, Maya, and even Gumshoe and Edgeworth, convince him to go. Now that Edgeworth’s back, Larry feels better about leaving

AA3 would still happen the same, but uh. Without Larry in 3-2 at the KB Security job. Just make a new character for that one. He reappears in 3-5, he’s on the path to becoming an artist. He takes the “apprentice name” of Laurice Deauxnim because it makes him sound smart (Phoenix insists Larry doesn’t need that, but Larry just shrugs. Deep down, though, he’s touched). I think 3-5 would play out…mostly the same? Minus…all of the weird flirting. Seriously, writers, what was up with the weird flirting?? (Speaking of which, he did that in AA1 too. At some point in this rewrite, he’d apologize to Maya for that. But anyway, moving on)

He’d be such an amazing uncle to Trucy! And unlike Maya and Edgeworth, he lives pretty steadily in Japanifornia, so he drops by often. Trucy calls him “Uncle Larry” and he dotes on her (in between trying to convince Phoenix to get his badge back, which is a losing conversation, but Larry has to try. Seeing Phoenix like this is killing him—what happened to his overly hopeful best friend who now won’t even take Maya and Edgeworth’s calls?)

He and Kristoph can’t stand each other. Larry doesn’t trust him, and Kristoph doesn’t like him (Larry doesn’t like him either, but he especially doesn’t trust him). Kristoph reminds him of an old girlfriend—patronizing, rude, more interested in correcting his manners and appearing kind than actually being so

He grates on Apollo at first, when they meet, but he’s also the most forthcoming, which Apollo appreciates. He tells Apollo everything he can—Phoenix swore Larry to secrecy about his plan, and Larry relays that apologetically to Apollo with a wince. He doesn’t like all this secrecy, especially doesn’t like how Phoenix is treating Apollo so dismissively, but…hey, Larry’s loyal before anything else, and Phoenix is still his best friend

He might like Klavier, the showmanship performer type seems up his alley. Plus, they’re both artists, just different kinds. Much like with Ini, Larry would recognize that Klavier’s hiding some very deep vulnerability in there…and he’d feel for the kid when his best friend, Daryan, is found guilty of smuggling and of coercing a boy to go along with his plan. Pairing that with Klavier’s brother being Kristoph (who has, at this point, been arrested for Zak’s murder)…yeah Larry’s pretty sure the kid’s nearing his breaking point

He’s not super clear on the tech know-how of the MASON system, but hey, anything to put Kristoph away for good—that fake ace was a lucky bluff, but there’s always a chance of it being overturned. Phoenix being crafty is kinda unsettling to Larry…but with Kristoph arrested, the effect on Phoenix is clear—he’s committed to retaking the bar, he smiles more, he’s more hopeful

Larry…doesn’t want to think about what Phoenix’s improved mental state means about how Kristoph was affecting Phoenix, but he has his theories (listen, he’s been in his fair share of relationships, okay? Skipping ahead to SOJ: he’d play co-counsel for Apollo with Trucy’s case, and he’s kinda pissed at the other guy for throwing veiled insults at his niece. Who does this foreign peacock think he is exactly? Larry’s got half a mind to give him a piece of his mind, but Apollo just gives him that exhausted “please, Larry, don’t cause a scene” look that Phoenix always got, and…yeah, okay. Maybe when Trucy’s free (Nahyuta receives a surprisingly detailed portrait of himself with devil horns speaking the words “I hate children and I’m no fun”, which he never finds out the meaning of)

pearl and maya come down to see phoenix early into the 7yg. and what do you know, kristoph is there too. phoenix introduces them as pearl studies this new man. she's come to terms w the fact that phoenix and maya arent together, but when she sees how kristoph's hand is placed on phoenix's arm something clicks. "oh! mr kris is mr nick's 'special someone'!"

phoenix goes to correct her but kristoph shushes him, "let her have a little fantasy, it's easier than correcting her anyway."

"yeah, but she'll expect us to act all couple-y in front of her." phoenix warns

kristoph raises an eyebrow, "is that all? half of my office already thinks we're an item, i dont think we'll find it difficult." it's mostly the truth, most of his office have deduced that theyre sleeping together and a few of them call phoenix "mr gavin's boyfriend" when they think he can't hear them.

and that makes phoenix pause. kristoph isn't wrong. everyone seems to think there's something going on: staff at the borscht bowl, kris's coworkers, and now pearls... fuck it, whats the harm in indulging her a little? "yeah, kristoph is my special someone" and he's gotta admit, pearls's delighted squeal makes the lie worth it.

throughout the day it's surprisingly easy to fake it, especially since maya and trucy pick up fast and play along. phoenix is thankful that theyre so smart and put up with his bullshit. even so, every time kristoph laughs at phoenix's jokes or leans into his arms he can feel trucy's gaze boring holes into his back. he doesnt know what she's looking for, but it's a relief when they put her and pearl to bed for a sleepover.

in trucy's room pearl sighs dreamily "wow, mr kris and mr nick are really, truly in love!" she's kicking her feet.

trucy hums a doubtful little "mhm..." and pearl looks worried.

"oh no, you dont sound so sure"

trucy's eyebrows are pinched together like shes thinking very very hard, "i know uncle kris likes daddy a whole lot, i KNOW he does..." she trails off.

"... but?" pearl prompts.

"i don't know! grown-ups are weird" she mumbles, frustrated. daddy and uncle kris aren't actually dating, she knows that. but they didnt seem to not like being a couple today. maybe that means they like each other? but that doesnt feel right either.

pearls pulls trucy out of her thoughts, "hey, if mr nick and mr kris are boyfriend-boyfriend does that mean you have two dads?"

trucy blinks. "uncle kris isnt like daddy," she smiles, "but if he was i think that means i have three!"

meanwhile kristoph, phoenix, and maya are in the living room. maya thanks them for saving her from a million questions about nick on the way back, and tells kristoph it was nice to meet him, it's good for nick to have a "friend" who lives near him for once. she means it.

the moment kristoph leaves maya turns to phoenix, "he's a weird guy."

phoenix smiles "he's not so bad once you get used to him. besides, he's good to trucy and i, and i appreciate that." he doesn't know why kristoph has been so kind to them, but he's in no place to question someone's generosity.

theres a pause as maya thinks, "hell, edgeworth was weird too and you were right about him. i'll trust your judgment this time, gavin seems to make you happy" a smile creeps onto her face, "so dont take 3 years to confess to this one," and she laughs as phoenix sputters and blushes.

Lullay, Space Princess (A Man Named Terran #1) - Chapter Three - Mama Aura

"Simon, I know you didn't kill her! Why do you keep living this lie!"

"I should ask of you, dear sister, why do you still come for me? I took the one you cared for most and sent her flying across the River Styx. Should you not be focusing your energy on celebrating my death sentence?"

"You are my nerdy little brother! You like katanas, calling people by Japanese titles and those stupid animes you'd always watch in the middle of the night with no headphones! You didn't kill her, I know that! Why do you keep claiming you did? Work with me and I can give you your true verdict! We can stop GYAXA's death count from climbing any higher!"

"This is my true verdict, Aura. Calm yourself."

"If that's true, then how did you dissolve from my kind, goofy brother who was the gentlest man alive to a death row inmate?!"

"As Metis was your greatest treasure, Athena is mine."

Athena is mine... Athena is mine... Athena is mine.

That's when it hit her. Simon was innocent as she always knew.

But he was taking the fall for someone else. Someone who had taken truth with them to the other side.

Metis' little princess.

The Cykes family had been gone for just over a year when Aura finally pieced it together.

Athena did it. She murdered her mother.

The princess had taken her mother's unwavering love and repaid it with murder.

Her own death was payback.

Simon confessed before Athena died.

He wasn't at the hospital the last few days of her life. He would have known Athena was going to die if he had.

That psychologist mind was the one thing Aura lacked that the rest of her family had. Simon would have heard Athena's brain shutting down if he'd been there before his trial.

A trial cannot be held if the defendant is dead. He would not have confessed if he heard the signs Athena's days were turning to hours, then minutes.

Everything would have been better. Not good, Metis was still gone.

But she'd still have Simon.

A year ago, she would say that it would be better even though Metis and Athena were gone.

But the little princess took her mother's life. She in no way deserved to be missed.

Aura had been in denial a long time, until the evidence against Athena began to pile up.

All the child remembered on her last day was that she was covered in blood, there was her mother's katana through her mother's chest and Simon had entered some time after her.

Aura knew the child was in pain for some time while she and Metis worked to create a device that would at least subside her agony.

Perhaps she just couldn't take one more day of it.

The pain was getting worse, she remembered Simon mentioning in August 2020. The launch was getting closer as well, so there wasn't much time to work on helping Thena. Resources were not easily spared as well. Athena's headaches weren't a government-funded space project, and had to wait.

That was the conclusion Aura reached. Athena killed her mother because the board of directors had all resources devoted to the space launch, leaving none for further robotic development or Athena's condition.

How cruel the world was, that pain could drive an innocent little girl that had never even seen mild violence to murder someone who never had a say.

Weapons were no longer allowed in the center, even for decorative reasons.

A decorative sword had been the murder weapon two years ago.

Aura was allowed a ray gun for emergency charging of robots or emergency shut-off of machinery. The gun was to be holstered at all times unless there was cause for alarm.

She suspected it only spent a max of three hours a day on her hip. She used it on Clonco multiple times every day. The hunk of junk was always needing something.

"Mama Aura!" Clonco wheeled happily into the lab, spinning around and waving a letter in his hands.

Aura let the ray gun loose.

Electricity shot from the robot's joints before his head spun around and he cowered. "Ah, Miss Aura sorry, sorry!"

"What is it, hunk of junk? I'm quite busy!"

"Your petition for Simon's trial has returned!"

It was snatched from his metal claw and torn open. Every time she found anything that could prove what she already knew, she submitted a retrial petition. They had been rejected for two years straight: the first year because there wasn't conclusive proof that Simon lied in his confession, the second year because her new suspect was already deceased. This time, she'd tried a new tactic. She knew how that intolerable, fox-slippery court system was. The likelihood they'd host a retrial only for the overturn of a previous verdict was next to nothing. But she was desperate. Her brother was a dying man. If they wouldn't rehost a trial only because the real killer was dead, then she'd have to stop playing by their rules.

Miss Aura Blackquill,

We have reviewed your case for the retrial of Homicide Incident UR-1.

However, we find your case lacking in enough evidence to suggest an overrule of the current verdict. While some evidence may suggest an accomplice to the current convict, the case cannot be retried on the suspicion of their guilt due to the suspect's being deceased. If evidence were to point to the deceased suspect's guilt as acting without the aid of the current convict, the case could be considered. Otherwise, the case is considered closed without further argument.

The Japanifornia Prosecution Office hereby rejects your case for the retrial of UR-1.

Condolences,

Miles Edgeworth, Chief Prosecution Officer

Condemn them! They admit facts of the case have changed, but still refuse a retrial? Prosecutors and their desire only for a guilty verdict! If he were still around, he could help her present the evidence in a way that would force the case to reopen.

But he's been banned from the courtroom for three years now. Seemingly gone off grid as well. A quick search through the court library states he appeared in Family Court just a few months after his conviction, but that is the last record anywhere.

She tried the next best attorney. Gavin wouldn't even meet.

No other attorney had the win record near these two men, especially when it came to difficult cases. She was left as her own advocate.

Simon's connections to the Prosecution Office didn't help. The prosecutors were afraid for their jobs, and wouldn't answer if they heard her on the line. The attorneys didn't want another prosecutor added back to the office roster. Legal experts and journalists wouldn't touch either of the Dark Law cases. Judges started yelling and, well, judging. The only individual within the legal realm who had even sat through a lunch with her was no longer practicing law, but performing in Europe.

A few knocks were heard on her door. "Miss Aura? May I come in."

"Come in, Terran."

A young man with a newly-printed staff badge, a GYAXA visor and a mop of shiny, black hair stepped in carefully with a stack of papers; technical jargon and documentation all over them. "The techs are requesting some stabilizers for the engine, special coolant tanks and an entirely new AI system for the rocket launch in 2027. You know, anti-HAT-1 gear. They need to know whether the Spaceship Engineer Committee needs to reconvene."

"Of course. Put them on the little black shelf by the Ponco Series Interface. The big computer with the three screens." Waving dismissively in the general direction of the interface, she did not look away from the rejected petition and her brows furrowed deeper.

"Another rejected petition, Miss Aura? You seem out of it."

"Yes, Terran. They acknowledge that there is evidence proving someone else was involved in the murder, but refuse to retry."

Terran waited until the reams were settled before responding. "Can you put a name on the new suspect?"

"Yes." She hissed a little on the 's'.

Clay figured she didn't want to talk about it. The person she believed destroyed the lives of everyone in her family wasn't going to stand in court any time soon. "I'll leave you to your robots then. I'll see you soon, Clonco. Tell Ponco I said I."

He was halfway out the door before she looked up. "Terran, wait. How much do you know about what happened?"

"I know Doctor Cykes and her daughter died, stabbing and a hemorrhage respectively, and Mister Simon was convicted of it. Apparently now I also know there was another person involved."

"Let me tell you. You are on staff now, you deserve to know of Cosmos Space Center's darkest secret."

"You believe that it was Doctor Cykes' daughter who committed the crime?"

"Like I said, Athena was in terrible pain the last few months of her life. Inhuman suffering often brings out the worst in even the gentlest of souls."

"Wouldn't Doctor Cykes have done something to soothe her daughter?"

"She could not. Supplies were completely restricted until the launch of HAT-1. She tried to get painkillers for her daughter, but doctors of medicine wouldn't understand how Athena was hurting and wouldn't give a prescription. Pediatric over-the-counters weren't strong enough to even dull the edge. What the child probably needed was morphine, but without a prescription she couldn't have it."

"Morphine?! She wasn't just in pain, she was in agony!"

"That's why she never left the fourth floor the last few months of her life. It was a good day if she left her room. Robotics lab, psyche lab, her family's apartment there on the floor; they were the only places she went." Aura snorted a sigh. "Just before the supplies were restricted, Metis got me to develop a pair of radio headphones that would interfere with signals coming into Athena's ears. Her pain worsened severely around the time I finished, and she refused to wear them, which progressed whatever was wrong severely. She died, as you know, on October 13th from brain hemorrhaging, just about three months later."

"But her death wasn't caused by whatever was hurting her, it was the skull puncture wound she got on the 7th, correct?"

"That's what her paperwork says. But it's also likely that whatever was wrong before was killing her and the wound finished off any chance she had at fighting. If that's so, she held on for a long time. I believe she was overcome with pain, and with the belief that the headphones Metis ordered were the cause, killed her mother. She may have even known she was dying. Maybe she wanted to take Metis with her because she was scared of death. I don't know, Athena is dead. All I know is Athena killed her, not Simon."

Clay's body ran colder and colder as it processed a little girl, driven mad by chronic head pain, stabbing her mother to death. It disgusted him to the core, but he retained his stomach for the time being. It almost disturbed him more that Aura discussed it so casually. This was matricide! Caused partially by some degree of medical malpractice! "D-Does anyone else know your theory of events?"

"All of the higher staff. Everyone who knew Metis well when she died. Yuri, Solomon, the technicians. You are the last one."

"Your brother doesn't know? It could save him!"

"Simon won't hear of it!" She tilted her head away as if he had suddenly turned into fermenting roadkill right in front of him. "Athena is his angel, he won't hear of any bad words about Athena. He believes Athena's head problems and Metis' death were separate. The only events he believes are related are the deaths of the two. He won't even let me breathe a sound of the possibility that Athena killed Metis because of a misunderstanding of her chronic head condition. He just pounds the Detention Center window and snarls 'Athena is gone. Don't you dare deface her name. She didn't take her mother's life, but had hers taken as well.' If he knew I was sharing what the evidence was suggesting he probably would be guilty of a murder, mine!"

'I never knew your brother and little Athena were so close."

"She may have called me Mama Aura, why I don't know when she loved my nerdy brother so much more, but Simon was the only person she ever wanted to be around aside from her mother. If she wasn't obeying the staff, all it took was a word from Simon and she'd be rolling over for him." She leaned closer to Clay. "Now I've heard your little friend with the horns... he's studying law?"

"Planning to. Apollo wants to be a defense attorney, but he hasn't started yet. He has to be eighteen since he's orphaned. Why?"

"No attorney will take this case from me because the obvious suspect is dead, even though Simon is very alive. But if you could convince your friend... this system of ours can't be trusted, but we need someone on the inside to take it down."

"I don't know if Apollo would accept. He didn't know Athena, he just came to her funeral to comfort me. There's also a chance he won't get his badge in time, and even then he'll just be a rookie lawyer. Definitely not someone like Wright or Gavin."

"Believe me, Wright was my preferred choice. But he's disbarred, so not much he can do. Gavin refused instantly."

"I don't think Apollo would want to discuss a real case until he's actually in college and has a chance at getting his badge. But I'd be willing to help you with your side."

"Oh, I'd love that Terran! You and me working together to expose the truth behind the princess' last days. Together we'll take down the sun and moon of the legal world, as Metis would have described."

After Clay bid his true farewell and returned to wherever he came from, Aura returned to the interface and picked up her photo of Metis, tracing the lines gently. "I'm sorry it all went so wrong, Metis... but the princess can't hold her grasp from the other side for much longer. The honor of GYAXA will be restored, Simon will be set free. I and the robots, along with Mr. Terran will fight for the truth of your final days; by whatever means necessary. The time is soon, Metis, I must be ready, for my brother, and for you."

She turned to both her robots: Clonco, who had heard the whole story, and Ponco, who he had transferred all the data to over the interface; smirking finally with a victory she'd been fighting for since October 7th, 2020. "You both know?"

Yes, Miss Aura! Our data sharing server is without fail! Ponco clapped her robotic pincers together. For Mommy Metis!

"Good. We will prove without a doubt that, not only is Simon innocent beyond a doubt, but that Metis' princess was the one who spilled her blood. This, is what Mama has decreed."

I've had two different ideas about the Gavin brothers' backstory, and it might even be possible to combine them.

First idea: The Gavin family are a mob/mafia type of family in Europe, specifically Austria. Kristoph got himself and Klavier out of that situation when Klavier was young, so he wouldn't get caught up in the turf wars. He pulled strings to move to Germany, where they both lived together for some time before Klavier grew up and got a legal education of his own. Kristoph learned his shady ways from the crime family's go-to lawyer, and never quite broke those bad habits of forgery, blackmail and bribery. Klavier never found out about his brother's dark side until Turnabout Succession.

Second idea: Klavier and Kristoph's parents were killed in a hit and run car accident, leaving them in the care of their uncle, Klaus, who is their only surviving next of kin. Klaus is a prosecutor. He is strict, but fair and he does the best he can to balance his work and the raising of his late sister's children. Klavier goes through a phase of teenage rebellion that causes a rift between him and his uncle. In the meantime, Kristoph sees something on one of his early cases that he keeps bottled up. Something that shows him the darker side of humanity. The brothers move out of their uncle’s house, Klavier feeling like he has something to prove, and Kristoph with a secret he feel he cannot tell anyone.

If combined, perhaps Klaus Gavin is estranged from the Family and had to leave his home country to start a new life. Moving in with him is part of Kristoph’s plan to keep Klavier safe. Rather than dying in a car wreck, maybe the brothers’ birth parents either perish in another turf war, or they’re still sitting in life imprisonment after their home got raided by the Austrian authorities.

Klavier was shielded from a lot of the darkness in his family in this version of events. And maybe he feels regret he could not do the same for his brother.

30 Ace Attorney Headcanons Once Again!

Last one had like 3 headcanons about the gavins, let's give Bobby Fulbright some closure, shall we?

1. Franziska deeply respects Phoenix but doesn't like to show it in case she comes off as weak.

2. Bobby Fulbright was killed by the phantom

3. Bobby Fulbright intended to present evidence that proves Simon Blackquill's innocence and proves who the phantom is, which is why the phantom killed him.

4. Bobby Fulbright was like an older brother or an uncle figure to Clay Terran and Apollo Justice.

5. Trucy and Apollo are half-siblings. Nahyuta and Rayfa are siblings. Apollo and Nahyuta are foster/adoptive siblings. And because of the history of Apollo and Nahyuta, Rayfa and Trucy are spiritually connected, STRONGLY connected. That explains why their sprites are really similar.

6. Nahyuta can channel spirits and perform Divination Sèances, but he hides his ability from Rayfa so she doesn't feel weak.

7. Simon isn't allowed to visit the phantom in prison, and Nahyuta isn't allowed to visit Ga'ran in prison because the guards KNOW that Simon will beat the living fuck out of the phantom, and Nahyuta will beat the absolute shit out of Ga'ran, so they are not allowed to visit them.

8. Simon, Klavier and Nahyuta have became a trio of destruction in the prosecutors' building.

9. Kristoph's breakdown is what happens when black psyche locks are broken with force, and not carefully.

10. When Aura went to prison, the prosecutors' building and The WAA all worked on reducing her sentence to the minimum. Nahyuta heard about it, so he came from Khura'in to help his mentor, Miles Edgeworth. So Simon and Nahyuta met right on that case. [I headcanon that Miles is Nahyuta's mentor.]

11. The WAA take on other cases but we only see the interesting ones that they won. So the prosecutors do win a lot of cases but we don't see them because we are rooting for the defense attorneys, not the prosecutors. So we only see the interesting cases that The WAA won.

12. Simon was feared in prison because 1-) he was a death row inmate and 2-) he beat up a total of 9 inmates in one fight. All alone.

13. Apollo introduced Clay to Klavier and they became good friends REALLY quickly. So when the news came that Clay had died, both Apollo and Klavier were shattered.

14. Simon knew both Clay and Apollo since they always visited the Cosmos Space Center and he used to live their with Aura. So Clay was friends with everyone, but Apollo didn't visit the Space Center for one month and that month was the month of Metis Cykes's death. Clay decided not to tell him.

15. When Apollo was young, he used to watch the Gramarye's magic shows on TV, and he felt some sort of weird connection to Thalassa Gramarye, he felt as if she was familiar, she was someone who he knew, he felt way more comfortable when she was on TV.

16. Apollo has no idea when his real birthday is. Which is why he counts it on the day when he was left at the orphanage.

17. Miles didn't get to go to his father's funeral.

18. Dahlia and Iris Hawthorne's mother killed Mia and Maya Fey's father, Pearl Fey's father, and killed her own husband [Dahlia and Iris's father]. And then she taught her Dahlia about how to use poison, Dahlia learned meanwhile Iris used to hang out with Mia and Maya. And Iris then snitched on her mother, which caused her mother to be executed and then Dahlia abandoned Iris.

19. The prosecutors' building has yet to figure out that Simon and Nahyuta are dating. Nobody knows, whenever someone catches them talking sweetly to each other or hugging each other, they have a few excuses ready because Nahyuta predicted when the others will catch them. Miles knows they are dating, but can't do anything to prove it and Sebastian blindly follows Miles.

20. Maya, Pearl, Trucy, Athena, Apollo, Clay, Simon, Nahyuta and Klavier all watched Steven Universe and/or Adventure Time as kids. Mia, Aura and Kristoph didn't know what the hype was but they liked seeing their little siblings talking about it. And Rayfa watched that Lady Kee'ra show as a kid, so Nahyuta and Apollo are now letting her watch Steven Universe and Adventure Time so she can understand what they are talking about.

21. All the prosecutors' building are like family. No prosecutors or detectives hate each other COMPLETELY, it's always either dating, best friends, friends or frenemies.

22. Gumshoe got transferred to a different city in Japan where his salary is actually better. And every Halloween and Christmas/New Years, he'd visit the prosecutors' building he used to work at and he'd visit the WAA. Every year new prosecutors rise.

23. When Aura went to prison and then about 2 hours later the phantom was sent to prison, she *just wanted to talk to him* . We know how that ended.

24. Trucy came out as pansexual in her school, then the teacher called Phoenix, her adoptive father and then the teacher asked to talk to Trucy's mother. Phoenix said that she doesn't have a mother. And as he was talking to the teacher, Miles's voice was heard on the phone saying "Hey... Darling... Who is this?" the teacher asked who that was and Phoenix said "That's my husband! A.K.A., Trucy's other father!" the teacher then just let Trucy go.

25. Kristoph genuinely cares for Klavier but is just strict and has his own weird and slightly cold way of showing it.

26. Trucy and Clay were HUGE Mother Mother fans. when Apollo started getting into Mother Mother, they were his guide.

27. Apollo wanted to become a defense attorney just like Dhurke, and his even bigger motive was to challenge Nahyuta in court because Nahyuta wanted to become a prosecutor.

28. When Apollo and Clay were 13-14 and Simon was 18-19, they used to sit down at the Space Center and watch anime on TV. Then, urgent news came on TV one day and the news were about Phoenix Wright solving the DL-6 incident and Apollo suddenly remembered his dream of becoming a defense attorney so he can challenge with Nahyuta in court. So then he kinda became Simon's law student, he only taught Apollo major law that every defense attorney, judge and prosecutor should know.

29. The judge was very sad upon hearing the disbarment of Phoenix Wright.

30. In the final Ace Attorney Turnabout, the judge will be the client, and the trial will be the longest trial ever and it will be a total of 15 ace attorney days. The judge wishes to see all defense attorneys and prosecutors that are available, everyone faces their rivals [Phoenix vs. Franziska, Phoenix vs. Miles, etc.] and the final piece of evidence will be the attorney's badge. Who's gonna be the judge for this trial? Juniper Woods.
