New bass project, 2024

Managed to find another History KBJ short-scale bass from a Japanese seller. Snagged it for under $200 (but the shipping cost was about the same price).

This time around I'm kitting it out as a BEAD-tuned fretted bass.

Upgrades will be:

Hipshot KickAss bridge in black (their version of the Leo Quan Badass II)

Hipshot Ultralite tuners, black

Set of short-scale BEAD strings with a .130 low B from Pitbull Strings

Swapping the stock pickups and electronics for an EMG MJ set - this is their set for upgrading Mexican Jazz Basses which often had same-length neck and bridge pickups, which is the case here. Also includes EMG vol/vol/tone controls and output jack.

This is a great shirt for lounging and also as a base layer for cool/cold weather exercise. It's very affordable and very cute. It definitely runs slim-- I got it in the larger of my two normal sizes and I like having it not be snug.

I have this color and a dark greyish-bluish and I will probably get more! I love old navy workout clothes very very much, and I am like a hard exerciser and work out a ton and they are comfy and hold up really well. bye bye!

The blonde girl takes a breath in, waiting for the subway to arrive.

This isn't the first time she has spent waiting on public transportation, and it certainly won't be the last.

Waiting. ...Waiting. ....Waiting.

The minutes seem to be getting longer and longer. Maybe it would have been better just to walk to work...

For a moment, she scrolls through her phone, mindlessly, looking for any way to distract herself while waiting.

Every minute or so, she looks up from her phone for the subway, to see if it has arrived or not.

However, she... she thinks she sees something different. Someone, different. Someone that brings a smile to her lips.

"Honor among thieves." Whoever came up with that phrase must have been on some good kush. If there was honor among thieves, Sergio wouldn't have had to take the subway across Manhattan just to get his car back.

Ultralite Towing was notorious for towing cars the moment a parking meter expired. They were also the ones people called for quick towing without any questions asked, for a small fee, of course. Sergio left his hatchback parked somewhere five minutes too long, and by the time he came out of the mall, the tow truck was already peeling off with his ride.

He caught a glimpse of the label on the tow truck and knew he needed to act fast. He didn't have any of his parkour equipment with him; it was all in his car. So, he had to take public transportation in order to get to the junkyard the fastest.

Sergio was dressed in his same purple hoodie and black jeans with grey basketball shoes, his ears pinned to his head as he approached the loading area for the subway. He didn't notice anyone familiar in his peripherals just yet.

New fretless bass plans...

So I had a fretless that was long scale, and I didn't get on with it as well as I liked, so I'm doing a short-scale.

I managed to nab this 2002 History KBJ short-scale J bass in candy apple red via Buyee, the site for shopping Japanese auction sites, for a very modest sum.

I'm swapping out all the stock hardware and electronics, and I'll have my local luthier convert the neck to fretless, and give the fretboard edges a rolled feel at the same time.

The pickups are both neck width; I'm replacing them with Delano JC4/HE-M2 dual coil humbuckers.

The stock bridge is being swapped for a Kahler 2440, which lets me get tighter string spacing than standard.

Tuners are being replaced with Hipshot Ultralites plus a new three-string Hipshot string retainer.

Pots are going to be a blend / vol / tone setup, with a CTS 250k blend pot with center detent, and Jim Dunlop 250k Super Pots for volume and tone. Not sure what tone capacitor value I will use, but I might go for something higher rated than usual.

I'm swapping the stock chrome dome knobs for three Sadowsky-style black aluminum knobs with white line indicators.

Restringing it with GHS Balanced Nickels Short Scale - many people at TalkBass recommended these.

I also picked up this really nice Aguilar Octamizer octave pedal, which I can't wait to try out with it.
