Ossan's Love Returns episode 4 eng sub
Tumblr media
I'm here again with another subbed episode of my favourite show! There were once again many Japanese references in the episode, so please read the notes before getting confused.
Previous episodes, welcome on board: Episode 1 Episode 2 Episode 3
Episode 4
RAW
subtitle
Do not reupload to any streaming sites.
Notes:
Akito & Haruta: Aki means autumn, haru means spring
Kikunosuke: Kiku means chrysanthemum, the flower of the emperor, so it's a very regal name.
Oniisan: Kiku has a habit of calling everyone oniisan/older brother. It's normal to call strangers oniisan but Kurosawa is a bit past the oniisan age lol.
Soiya, soiya, sore, sore: These are cheers. The scene is a reference to this song from the 80s:
youtube
Zenryaku, michi no ue yori by Issei fuubi sepia
The bachelor is a cameo by Dean Fujioka.
Shougi: Japanese chess
Teppei's pun song: o-shiri, o-shiri, hey Siri, douka o-shirioki kudasai ore wa omae no otousan janai. O-shiri means butt so that's the pun here.
公安 kouan 'public safety': I've translated this to NSB because I needed a short word that people might repeat many times without getting the meaning. In a previous episode Haruta had to google what kouan is. I dont know how security and intelligence services differ across countries so please don't pay too much attention to this particular word, it's not meant to represent the American system (I'm not even American).
Vivant: A popular suspense drama that aired in 2023. Hayashi Kento who plays Maki actually appears in it haha.
Winter Sonata: A Korean drama from 2002 that was immensely popular in Japan and started the Korean wave
Yong-sama: Japanese fans' nickname for Bae Yong-joon who starred in Winter Sonata
老々介護 rouroukaigo: Literally 'old old caregiving'. This means an elderly person caring for another elderly person. It's becoming a social problem in Japan and Takekawa-san is haunted by it at the moment.
Tag list:
@babeluda @twig-tea @nieves-de-sugui @nongnaos @veikonvihannekset @bengiyo @thirstkanaphan @my-rose-tinted-glasses @faillen @ellieellieoxenfree @randifrn @fromisstar @lurkingshan @penguin251159 @i-remember-yyou @remadi @thesedamncannibals @sewichii @littleragondin @thegalwhorants @mirkoscarrot

Vinsmoke kids and "father"
I want to talk about something that I don't know if other people has ever mentioned before. Maybe someone already did, because I'm a newbie to the fandom community.
The Vinsmoke kids call Judge "father" with different levels of honorifics, with the most "warped" of the kids referring to him with the highest respect. It has to be a deliberate choice, and it's... a bit disturbing, I guess.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ichiji, Niji, and Yonji says Chichi-ue 父上. This is a very formal and somewhat old fashioned way to say "father". It's how they talk in old samurai dramas and very lofty. Like, dad is not just "dad" that you hang out and play ball with. Dad also "rules" over you.
Tumblr media
Reiju says Otou-sama お父様. Still very formal and respectful, but doesn't really have the same feeling of high esteem that the above does. Pretty standard for rich people speak in manga and dramas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basically the most pedestrian and familial version, and it's what regular everyday people use (even to this day).
It's just... the clones are all made to be submissive, and the most genetically messed-up of the kids are the ones who refers to Judge with the most respect (even if they act mostly casual/normal in front of him). That can't be coincidence, right?
Edit: Further scrutiny of honorifics used in the series seem to suggest that this might be important in regards to Germa's mysterious past or Judge's ambitions. 上 as honorific was only seen used by Skypieans, Celestial Dragons, and people of Wano.
If this is just Judge trying to aggrandise himself, then it only leads to more questions about just what it is that he's trying to do. And if this was just the traditional manner of speech in Germa (as is, Judge himself had spoken in this manner to his parents before), then something's very strange with their ancestry that needs to be scrutinised.

TOP 5 ANIME OPS and TOP 5 ANIME EDS EVER
ANOTHER... DIFFICULT...... this one bc i have like. no memories lol
so!! i will list the ones i remember first that i love a lot and/or mean a lot to me
also this got long so it's going under a cut
TOP 5 OPS
1) asterisk - orange range - bleach op 1
youtube
sorry i'm a bleach fuckboi. as if it's my fault. honestly the song is still awesome to me and it was so formative to me that nothing is going to take it down from number one on this list. ever lmao
2) jikai yokoku - tatsuya kitani - sentai daishikkaku op
youtube
OK I KNOW I JUST MET U BUT HIIIIII I LOV U honestly. honestly!! like you get it at this point i have talked about this enough but i am OBSESSED with this op
i love the song! but it isn't just about the song!! the visuals are so so so good and compelling, there are themes! there is a narrative! right in the op!
it's just. i'm. well. you all get it by now. it's phenomenal
3) kaen (fire) - ziyoou-vachi (queen bee) - dororo op 1
youtube
ok ok ok so for most of these i'm trying to link the actual anime op because typically the visuals are very important! but this one i can't resist linking the whole song because it's FIRE (LITERALLY. IT'S THE NAME OF THE SONG)
this was the first dororo op and hoooly shit. beautiful. it was also my first real dive into queen bee as a band, and i've been so into them ever since. every single queen bee anime op and ed deserves to be on this list but i will do my best to limit myself to only one or they would just. they would just be the whole list
also recommended: literally every other queen bee track pls. they're incredible
4) song of the dead - kana-boon - zom100 op
youtube
honorary shoutout to the sarazanmai op which is also by kana-boon! that is the one i considered putting on this list first before i remembered phew. no. alas. i have to give it to another kana-boon op
i just loved this to bits. the energy the motion and the music, all of it! i'm sure there's like some recency bias here but as of right now this definitely makes the cut
5) I AM CHOOSING TWO FOR THIS ONE AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME BECAUSE THEY CAN'T BE SEPARATED
youtube
[please imagine i have inserted both noragami ops here. i had them both in before i realized there's a 10 video per post limit. so. tragically. i had to take one out. but just close your eyes and pretend it's here. also go to youtube and watch it again. it's good for you. it's enrichment. anyway. let's move on]
SELF-EXPLANATORY. THEY'RE BOTH GOOD.
TOP 5 EDS
1) stand by me - the peggies - sarazanmai ed
youtube
so sarazanmai does make it onto the post after all lol
i really like this track! and the mixed... mixed medium? visuals? not sure how to describe it but they're beautiful to me. also it really fucked me up when in that one episode where [redacted] they [redacted] in the ed ads;flkajdklfj
i shan't say more
2) yofukashi no uta - creepy nuts - yofukashi no uta ed
youtube
in all honesty i think i like the yofukashi no uta op (daten also by creepy nuts) a tiny bit more than the ed but i love them both!!
but man i just love how all this happened like. the mangaka was so inspired by this song yofukashi no uta that he named his manga after it and when his manga was made into an anime the song itself became the ed. how perfect is that??
also creepy nuts. love creepy nuts. and actually now that i'm listening to them both again idk if i do like daten more like yofukashi no uta. god they're both so good. i can't choose lmao
3) seikai wa iranai - nanawo akari - sentai daishikkaku ed
youtube
YEAH THAT'S RIGHT THE ED MAKES IT ONTO THE LIST TOO!! IT'S JUST THAT GOOD!!! again yes of course i'm aware there's some recency bias at play here but really. really. it's good
4) antinomy - amazarashi - nier ed
youtube
ue ue ue i love this song. so much. amazarashi does it again. visuals are very good as well of course!! but it's like. definitely the song that takes this for me
5) my nonfiction - furukawa makoto & kohara konomi - kaguya-sama s3 ed (special)
youtube
ok i don't know if this even. technically counts. because it's not the "main" ed of the season, it was only played at the end of one episode but holy shit. holy fucking shit
the first time i heard and saw this it blew my mind and then i heard (if i'm remembering correctly) AND 18-YEAR-OLD ANIMATED THIS? ALL OF THIS?? ALONE???
incredible. i'm speechless. had this on repeat for so long after it first aired it truly deserves to be here

Hashirama doesn't attend meetings as the heir. As such, Tobirama is his substitute. His father says its better this way, as he'll be Hashirama's heir one day. He says he may as well learn how to now.
Tobirama doesn't mind the extra responsibility. In fact, he finds it fun. He gets insight into how the clan is run, and he is able to help it run smoothly.
His father catches him up late at night, scrolls laid out across his desk. He sets a hand on his head and urges him to bed. "Even Yosan-no-Mikoto* needs his rest."
Tobirama preens at the smile in his voice, and the bubbling amusement in his chakra. He fights off his own grin and obeys.
He likes filling in as heir, right by his father's side.
He does not like being alone.
His father steps out for a moment, just a moment, to see what the head mednin is summoning him for.
The elders lunge at the opportunity, though only their chakra shows it. They all know how vulnerable he is without guidance.
"Is something the matter, Tobirama-sama?," Elder Kyo questions, his eyes relaxed and posture betraying nothing.
Tobirama keeps his eyes down, focused on the scroll in his hands. "Not at all, Kyo-sama."
"You seem rather tense. Have you been training too hard?"
Inhaling slowly through his nose, he prepares himself. "Of course. As the future heir, I must push myself beyond my limits. If I am to serve the clan-"
"We all know you could care less about the clan, Oni," Kyo interrupts, linking his fingers together. "Come now, you can be honest. It's all for him, isn't it?"
Ah. This again. He sighs and shuts his eyes.
"I live to serve the clan, which includes my father-"
"Your wielder, you mean."
"Oh leave him be, Kyo." Elder Sota comes to his rescue, though likely just to spare him the embarrassment rather than out of any respect for him.
"Of course he's going to value Butsuma-sama over the clan, he's his consort on everything but paper."
Tobirama jolts, eyes widening at the statement. He presses his tongue to the back of his teeth, trying to keep his hands still and his mouth shut.
After a beat, the elders chuckle at the 'joke'.
"Perhaps that's why he's so tense today," Elder Takahiko surmises, a wry grin on his face. "Wasn't it the anniversary of something yesterday?"
Tobirama lowers his head slowly, shoulders hunching. The ink on the scroll blurs in his vision, the symbols swimming.
"Aa, of his marriage with That Woman. Knowing him, he probably drank himself half to death and took it out on his poor son," Elder Fuguraka contributes, "The head medic is right outside, perhaps you should ask him for a healing, hm, Tobirama-sama?"
Tobirama's lips part. He forces himself to speak. "N.. No, I'll be.. fine. I'm.."
"What was that, Tobirama-sama? You'll have to speak up. You see, our ears have gone bad in our old age."
Tobirama's face begins to feel hot. He balls his fists in the fabric of his hakama pants. He can feel tears welling up in his eyes.
He bows his head to the table, squeezing his eyes shut. "I-I..! I am well!", he insists, louder. "I-I must t-thank your ven-venerable selves for your concern..!"
"Oh, so polite. What did Butsuma do to ingrain that lesson into your head? You're on your knees so often, thanking everyone around you. Do you do that for your Tou-chan, too?"
Tobirama chokes on his breath, pursing his lips and shaking his head. "Y-You're mistaken, K-Kyo-sama! Chichi-ue is a v-very respectable man, h-he would not stoop to-"
"You don't have to lie. We've all seen you walk in here with bruises beneath your collar. Is he rough with you? Do you like it?"
Tobirama grits his teeth, shame burning through his entire body.
"I-I..!"
"I think we're done here."
Tobirama's head whips up and around to face the door. He can't make out much other than his silhouette, but he can sense who it is.
"B-Butsuma-sama!," Elder Takahiko laughs, "You're back, so soon!"
Tobirama lets out a noise that must sound like a dying kitten.
"Yes.", his father intones lowly, gathering the scrolls on the table and rolling them up. "And I will be taking my leave with my son. We will discuss these.. accusations of yours at a later date. Alone."
"I assure you, it was all in jest," Kyo attempts. "We-"
"I've heard enough. To insult my name behind my back is one thing, but to bring my son into it? I'm disappointed in all of you." His jaw is set and his gaze is firm.
"I leave for one moment to attend to what could have been an urgent matter, and your first reaction is to make my son out to be a whore. I believe we have some boundaries we need to discuss."
His father sets a hand on his shoulder. "Up. We're going home."
Relieved to be out of this situation, he scrambles to his feet, tailing his father's heels.
They walk in silence for a long time.
"Do not let them talk to you that way," his father says quietly after a while.
"..Hai, Chichi-ue," he agrees easily, his mind swimming with their words.
He nearly runs straight into his back with how quickly his father stops. He turns to face him.
A hand grasps his chin.
"You don't seem to understand. Do not let them talk to you that way," he growls, his chakra swimming with anger.
Tobirama's breath catches in his throat and he focuses his vision on his chin, tense.
"You are my second son, the next heir. You are a higher ranking as you are now than they will ever be. They must fear you. You are mine, and they cannot speak to you in such a derogatory manner."
He tries not to let out any sort of pathetic noise, but with his father's chakra so close to him radiating so intensely, he can hardly focus. He catches that he is his father's, and not much else. He clings to that knowledge.
After he does not respond for too long, his father softens. His hand moves from his chin to his cheek. His chakra retracts.
"You're too overwhelmed to hear me much right now. I'll tell you again later. Let's go home."
Tobirama nods quickly, trying not to lean into his touch. He tells himself he doesn't miss his chakra spreading out so harshly, and that he didn't enjoy how intense it felt.
He follows his father home, and when he's dismissed, collapses onto his bed.
Every time the memories of what the elders said resurface, he pushes them down by smothering them with the lingering sensation of his father's chakra.
Chestnuts and persimmons.
Is he rough with you?
Do you like it?

Zjedzone: szklanka domowego wina z przyprawą do grzańca
Spalone aktywnie: 432
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Łącznie zajęło mi to 1:21 minut samej jazdy.
Tumblr media
No to co?

Was Nobunaga actually already the “shogun” without having the “Sei’i Taishougun” title?
This was a theory that I found while trying to study the bureaucratic protocols and norms of the Sengoku. It suggested that Nobunaga’s reign did too have the approval from the imperial court, and he didn’t need to take over the “Sei’i Taishougun” title from shogun Yoshiaki.
After ousting Yoshiaki, Nobunaga was awarded the titles Dainagon (Major counselor) and Ukonoe no Daishou (General of the Right, also sometimes shortened as simply “Udaishou”). These are titles that the shogun traditionally also held, as the “Sei’i Taishougun” title is something of a unique title that is separate from the imperial hierarchy. Upon these appointment, Nobunaga was allowed to be addressed by the honourific address that usually only the shogun has: ue-sama.
Some people thought that this means the imperial court has acknowledged that Yoshiaki’s authority is over, and Nobunaga is in charge now, even though he does not have the “Sei’i Taishogun” position at this point.
The logic for that theory was that in that time period, the Udaishou was the highest imperial office that someone of the samurai class could have, hence the tradition of having the shogun also hold that post. The higher ranking Sakonoe no Daishou/Sadaishou post, the General of the Left, was traditionally held by the noble houses.
Shogun Yoshiaki and his brother Yoshiteru before him did not have Dainagon and Udaishou titles, and the last Ashikaga shogun to also have the aforementioned titles was their father Yoshiharu. Yoshiaki and Yoshiteru’s official court title was only up to the Sakonoe no Chuujou (Lieutenant-General of the Left), one rank under the Taishou.
Because in the imperial hierarchy Nobunaga’s Udaishou post outranks Yoshiaki’s Sakonoe no Chuujou, the theory posits that he is already acknowledged by the imperial court as the new ruler replacing Yoshiaki. That is, he is the “new shogun” (i.e the samurai ruler of the land), even though he does not actually have the literal “shogun” title.
What will change if this theory turns out to be true?
For one, it further confirms the idea that Nobunaga is not as wildly "out there” as most people thought he was. He still operated within the standard norms of the time period and adhered to the established traditions, and didn’t just smash his way through the court and government without regard to the customs.
Also, if this theory is true, it would debunk all the Honnouji conspiracies that involve any variation of “the imperial court feared Nobunaga’s power/ambition”. If Nobunaga ruled with the approval of the imperial court, then all that backstage plotting makes no sense.
And the last thing is that this theory being true would also further lend credibility to the other theory saying that Nobunaga wished to return the power to the emperor and do away with the concept of a “shogunate rule”. After all, the specialty-designation “shogun” title was the very proof of the samurai rule breaking away from and undermining the imperial court. Nobunaga choosing to not take the shogun post, and instead adhering to the “standard” imperial court ranks, was thought to be proof that he’s returning to the old imperial rule rather than following  the path of the “samurai/shogunate rule”.
Of course this is just a theory, and it only spawns more theories and what-ifs. I still find this worthwhile to consider because I’m realising that I don’t actually know what the rules and norms of the government of that time period is like. Even though in practice the daimyou and other local rulers largely disregard the central government (the shogun and the emperor both), I do see proof that the various rites and protocols still has to be performed. It means that the bureaucracy still matters to some degree, and learning about how this whole system works is something that is necessary to properly understand the Sengoku environment.

the use of honorific and titles are important in japanese language, especially in ivalice where there’s many sorts of alliances and nobles. higher ranking, lower ranking, or even equals. in here i have compiled what the upper-ranking archadians call each other.
Tumblr media
in here we can see the judge magisters refer to vayne as 殿 / dono, meaning “lord vayne”.
with the exception of judge ghis, who refers to vayne as his name directly without honorifics. this is considered rude, considering the context of ghis’ dialogue, yes this is very ambitious of him.
judge bergan is also an exception, he starts with “lord vayne / vayne-dono”. when gramis is assassinated he calls vayne 阁下 which is “his excellency vayne / vayne-kakka”. he is the only judge magister to say so. this is considered high respect, and in context of the scene, bergan readily accepts vayne as the new emperor.
NOTE: that  阁下 / kakka is not a japanese kanji. that is chinese hanzi. meaning “your mightiness” “one that is directly under the line of succession”, like ... next in line to rule. however this translates to jp as “your excellency” only. but now we know the connotation.
Tumblr media
judge drace refers to larsa as 様 / sama. in english this means the same as “lord larsa”, but sama implies closeness and yet respect. this makes sense considering drace is larsa’s mentor and guardian. they are very close, yet she still respects him as a lord. this is different from doctor cid and vayne as seen in here;
Tumblr media
doctor cid calls vayne あんた / anta. and vayne’s name directly. no titles, full casual. this is not considered rude because as written in ultimania, they are comrades/friends who see each other as equals, not higher or lower despite one of them being much older. (okay, maybe a little ‘you, young man’ in context of anta).
and next we have house solidor. phew, they are...quite something.
Tumblr media
gramis refers to his sons by name. he is the dad.
larsa calls his father  父上 / chichi-ue (lord father). high level of respect and acknowledges gramis as his father, larsa calls his brother 兄上 / ani-ue (lord brother). larsa is very familial unlike vayne,
vayne calls his father  陛下 / heika / gramis heika (your excellency. and in rabanastre, lord gramis). japanese imperial style, the most formal style of nobility in japan. which can be considered odd, he is speaking to his own father in context, why such formality? even larsa calls gramis “father”ーーーthis is because vayne dislikes gramis, he refers to him in a distant, cold way. not familial at all. he never called him a father.
vayne calls larsa by name. familiarity.
and last we have the senate;
Tumblr media
the senate refers to vayne and larsa as  殿/ dono (lord vayne, lord larsa). the same honorific as what the judgimagi call their masters. i think this is the common honorific for vayne and larsa, common archadians would refer to them with this 殿 / dono, too.

Wybory i kontakty z rodzicami.
16.10.2023
Do filmów, do radia, do podcastów - NIE WIEM JAK TO ROBIĆ, próbowałam, uczyłam się sama z sieci metodą prób i błędów próbując nagrywać, a tu proszę: będę miała kogo zapytać, gdzie próbować, prosić o wskazówki, uwagi, poprawki, krytykę konstruktywną.
Będzie trzeba to ogarnąć jakoś, jakoś odrobić...
A!
Mówiąc o przyjacielu przypomniało mi się! Rozmawiałam wczoraj min. z przyszłą panną młodą. Oczywiście o wyborach :P i kolejkach przed naszymi komisjami wyborczymi.
I kurcze... Tyle. A tu nagle mama nagle z ciepłem w głosie i wzruszeniem "jestem dumna"? I tle. xD
A my wróciliśmy do pieska, picia herbatki i układania FANTASTYCZNYCH puzzli (obecnie słuchamy do puzzli Chyłki Mroza, nie porywa...).
Banał i głupota. Warte do poczucia wdzięczności.

Thoughts on the final Given chapter
I got my copy of Cheri+ so these are just some thoughts after using my basic Japanese and piecing together the panels with Keru's wonderful twitter translation.
Tumblr media
-- SPOILERS AHEAD --
I was hoping for a cover illustration of Mafuyu AND Ue together but I'm okay with solo Mafuyu too. This was ultimately the story of his grief, discovery, and growth, so to see him smiling at the end of it all is so beautiful. He's surrounded by cherry blossoms, which symbolize change and a new season, and is set against the ocean, which holds special meaning in both of his relationships. I cry.
The fold out poster (pictured above) is so cool!! I really want to cut it out of the magazine and display it somewhere but I'm afraid I'll mess it up...
Given debuted, rejoice!
It's really nice that Kasai wasn't just cast aside as "that jealous girl" competing with Mafuyu for Ue (although she never stood a chance lol) and grew to become kind of a confidant and supporter for him. They may not fully understand each other, but they share a mutual respect and provide little bits of unexpected encouragement for each other and it's so wholesome.
Hiiragi being a menace but also sparkly, usual stuff. It's so funny because Hiiragi and Ue don't get along on the surface (two ore-sama types am I right), but they totally jive as artists, which is why Ue will continue playing support - and "ONLY SUPPORT" says a very bitter Mafuyu - for SYH.
I'm surprised at how little Haruki and Akihiko showed up in the chapter, but we did get crumbs that Haruki is apartment hunting~ They are so stable, just get married already.
When Keru initially tweeted that a significant portion of the chapter covers something she was hoping would happen but wasn't sure if it would, my mind immediately went to the gutter and assumed it was RitsuMafu sex lolol. It wasn't just me, right???
Anyways, they went to the BEACH. Mafuyu has gone to the beach with Yuki, but they went during the biting cold of winter and weren't "officially dating" so they didn't really do date-y stuff. His experience with Ue was totally different. There's several pages of them just eating and having fun, and they look like they can't get enough of each other.
Ugetsu calling Mafuyu out of the blue to thank him for the CD was really sweet. When I initially watched and read the series up to the end of the AkiHaru arc, I wasn't too big on Ugetsu and I actually thought that he was romantically interested in Mafuyu and would stir things up or cause trouble. Clearly I was wrong, and I'm glad. Their friendship is so valuable for both of them as two musical geniuses who are a bit socially awkward, and they've taken turns being there for the other when they needed a push, whether it was to say goodbye to an unhealthy relationship or to take a step towards love and music.
Ugetsu's wish to Mafuyu back when Yoru ga Akeru was in the works - about hoping that despite everything that's happened between him and Akihiko, if at least the music could remain - ends up being the driving point of this chapter and the end of the series. Mafuyu tells Ugetsu that he believes that Ugetsu remains in music, and so does Yuki, even if he can never see him again. When Ue comes back and kisses Mafuyu before offering him a drink, Mafuyu muses that someday, he'll probably forget this moment too, and that's why he wants to keep making music. It ties back to his last time at the beach with Yuki, because Yuki insisted that Mafuyu would eventually forget that day, but now with Fuyu no Hanashi and Umi e, these moments are able to live on.
The kiss had me squealing! It's nothing big or grand, but Ue is kneeling and he looks up at Mafuyu for a moment before going in for the kiss. This is such huge growth for Ue~ Their first kiss was a result of his overwhelming emotions after the live, and he didn't even remember it later! When they shared the classroom kiss after their fight, Ue wanted to take initiative but got shy and so it was ultimately Mafuyu who made the move. Now Ue has kissed Mafuyu on his own, in public!!! and with full intent and absolute love and affection. When he pulls away, the look in his eyes is like Mafuyu is the most amazing being in the world and he can't believe he's his. Ughhhhhh.
There is a full blank page of just text that says, "If only everything could stay like this forever." This is what Mafuyu is thinking as they ride the train back from the beach. I found it a weird thought to highlight because obviously, things WILL and SHOULD change.
As they get up to leave the train, Mafuyu (blushing slightly) calls out to Ue and says, "When we get back, should we do it?" to which Ue responds with "EHHHHHHHH?!" A little unexpected as the final panel of the final chapter but it's a nice callback to when Yuki asked Mafuyu the same question. MAH BOY UE IS FINALLY GRADUATING! I knew Mafuyu was going to have to take the lead, hehe.
MINOR GRIPES AND FINAL THOUGHTS
I've had two months to deal with the series ending and I had already tempered my expectations knowing the ending was going to be rushed, so honestly as long as Kizu-sensei didn't like, spontaneously kill off a character or break up a couple, I was pretty okay with anything the chapter was going to give us. I do still have some some gripes and things I just wish had been explored more.
My biggest complaint is in regards to the treatment of Ue as an individual and his relationship with Mafuyu. If we recall, Given actually starts off from Ue's point of view. He had been in a musical slump until Mafuyu came along and rocked his world. He had to come to terms with his unfamiliar feelings, and then he also had to deal with the fact that he knows almost nothing about the boy he likes. Even after they started dating, Mafuyu really didn't share anything about Yuki with him, so whatever he knew was very vague and second-hand knowledge. THEN in addition to that, he's tasked with finishing the demo of a piece that Yuki had obviously intended as a love song for Mafuyu. And ironically, he works on this song at the expense of his relationship with Mafuyu. He had brief moments of vulnerability, once when Aki called him out for his feelings toward Mafuyu (this is one of my favorite scenes in the anime), and again when Mafuyu rejected his invitation to SYH's debut concert. But then we never really see him working through these complicated feelings. My boy's been through so much and he is strong, but I wanted to see more growth and development from him. After all, he's just a teenage boy who fell in love for the first time and is trying to balance that with music, school, a part-time job, etc.
As for Ue and Mafuyu as a couple, they are my endgame, my OTP, so while I enjoy the arcs that focus on AkiHaru and ShizuRagi, I was never as invested in them. I was okay reading 20+ chapters of them because I always assumed that the series would circle back around to have a final arc focused on Ue and Mafuyu. I also found the resolution to their problems in the hiiragi_mix arc to be very rushed. They had MAJOR communication issues, which is completely understandable for two young guys. Ue was trying so hard to finish the song as a gift for Mafuyu, but Mafuyu pulled away because he saw a repeat of what happened with Yuki coming again and got scared. The root of the issue is that they've never talked about Mafuyu's relationship with Yuki and Yuki's death.
At SYH's debut live, Mafuyu hears Umi e, instantly recognizes that the song came from Yuki, and then is so moved and inspired that he basically proposes to Ue that he wants to make music with him for the rest of his life. And then the final chapter just cuts forward after this declaration to Given debuting. This resolution is too fast and unrealistic. I would have preferred at LEAST one whole long chapter dedicated to Ue and Mafuyu after the live debriefing and talking. In an even more ideal world, they would have also done it after the talking. I never expected anything explicit but I would have at least liked to see the lead up, because it would have been the truest form of intimacy they could share, and Ue coming to terms with his sexuality and what exactly he wanted to "do to Mafuyu" was such a big part of the series early on.
Regardless, Kizu-sensei wrapped everything up nicely, brought back every character for at least a cameo, and ended things on a happy, meaningful note. I've seen that many people are unsatisfied with it but I mean, I watched Game of Thrones, so I know a bad ending and this was just fine. Although I didn't get everything on my Given wish list, I am glad that I got to see the end. I prefer that over it getting cancelled at some point for whatever reason and being left unfinished. And we still have more to look forward to! I'll be hoping for some extra manga content with the volume 9 release and waiting to hear Umi e in the anime.
Just like Mafuyu says, Given and the music will remain with us. It touched my heart and will always have a special place there. Thank you for everything, Given!

Hello! I'm not sure if anyone answered this question before but here goes: Why is everyone in the Given crew being called by their first name except Ritsuka? Is this something he's not comfortable with?
Hello~ Nothing of the sort has been mentioned anywhere in the manga I can only assume Haruki and Akihiko stick to it partly because they like calling him "Ue-sama" (My lord) My best guess is that the three of them (Mafuyu included) have been calling him by his surname for so long it's probably really awkward for them to switch to his first name.

Uenoyama too probably won't know how to react should he ever be called Ritsuka. 😄

Yes, indeed-
Akatsuki's worked hard all of this time, trying to keep high spirits for her Sister and doing her best to help around the base. So what if she was "a bit too fat" these days, enough that sometimes she couldn't even think straight with how full and lethargic she was? It was nothing to chide her about.
Rather, was it not the ideal state for a Shipgirl living under Nozomi's care? In that sense, she was the right girl foe the job~
Squeezing Akatsuki hard yet tenderly, Nozomi nuzzled against her, kissing her chubby lil' face repeatedly-
"Yes, my dear daughter~ You're now a Lady of thr Ishikawa, so you must work harder to make Ue-sama proud alright? That's why..."
She trailed off, reaching for a nearby burger to offer to her lovely child's lips-
"You should eat to your heart's content~"
Akatsuki gave in quickly once she agreed. Her mind quick to take the ideas and suggestions of Nozomi.
Akatsuki Ishikawa~ She could not wait to tell Ika!
Her mind even started to think about how she could live in pampered bliss now. She already hardly worked, she could... she could just be a symbol for the girls on the base, for the base even! She was Nozomi's little lady now! Momma wouldn't want for her to overthink or overwork herself anymore!
Husky little giggles escaped her from each kiss, each other pushing back any reservations or doubts. She whined playfully.
"M-mommaahhh~ Heh... uuff.. gguuraaappp.... hehe~"
And once the burger was held to her lips? She devoured it with eager gusto. She'll make Momma proud!

Related to my past post about how the Vinsmoke kids say "father" differently.
Sora says "your father" with otou-sama お父様, the same way that Reiju says it. We know that Reiju and Sanji has both visited Sora, so presumably Reiju and Sanji learned the word from Sora? Sanji's "otou-san" could just have started as him failing to say "otou-sama" properly, and then was never corrected.
Then, either this means that the other 3 boys never visited Sora even once (and the childhood photos shown in the anime might have been incorrectly made), or they did visit Sora but somehow whatever she said doesn't stick and they persist on using chichi-ue 父上.
(TL;DR, even when used casually by the speaker in manga, anime, or dramas, 父上 is still a comparatively more regal form of "father" than otou-sama)
Also, I'm starting to be curious if maybe this was just cultural difference rather than something shady about the children's "programming". There were things in the story that made me wonder if the Vinsmokes had ancestors from Wano lately, and if that was true then 父上 might just be a customary term from the Vinsmoke side and Sora says お父様 because of her original culture, wherever it was that she originally came from.
Momo also used 父上 with Oden, for example, but this is just standard terminology for samurai in fiction, so this is not a big deal. With the Vinsmokes it sent me to wild conspiracies because that seems unusual for the kids to refer to the father in different terms.
If it's just a "culture thing", then only question that remains now is whether the 3 other boys ever talked with Sora or not.

Can you remember side characters from tv shows? You know how some characters are forgettable? Which would you say are forgettable from tmnt, any tmnt show?
I just realized I got this question HAHA sorry for the late late reply...
Well, if we're gonna talk about the TV shows, I think the 80's animated show takes the prize at having the largest number of forgettable characters. Maybe because a good amount of the fandom didn't have the chance to grow up with that version, or maybe because the show itself was honestly kinda silly and goofy so most characters didn't get a decent continuity and were just there for a very specific reason and then bye (because apparently that was a thing that retro animated TV shows loved to do...) Like, do you legit remember who Zach was? Geez, even Timothy got more love from the fans... The Polarisoids?? Ok. That old ass alter ego of Franklin the turtle that nobody cares about nowadays. Even the Neutrinos are also pretty forgettable in my opinion. Now there are some characters that I would love to see again, like Lotus Blossom, a Kunoichi who had a thing for Leonardo. I wouldn't mind seeing a modern take on her. There's also Mira from 2012 Mutant Apocalypse; I mean, people in general forgot about those three last episodes and collectively agreed to pretend they never happened HAHAJSHA killjoys. Ue-Sama is another one that I haven't seen in any recent media, then we can talk about Dr. Chaplin, Cody Jones and his girl Starlee... and I'm surprised I even forgot about Chikara, so much that when I saw her again I thought she was an over the top OC. 🧍
I guess that's all I can say at the moment, not sure if someone else around here remembers another forgettable character. Thanks for the ask!
