Hi, I'm working on a theory for Ramshackle and MC. Have the creators said why Queen of Hearts/Scar/etc. were chosen for the Great Seven? ((Also, why did MC become the prefect of Ramshackle and not the Housewarden?))
Hello hello!! Thank you for this question, it became a rabbit hole!
Yana had this to say about the villains who were used for inspiration (from the game guide):
"The number one reason is that they are all from 'masterpieces with which everyone is familiar'. They are all legendary—you need only say the movie titles and the characters come immediately to mind.
Since they are also legends in their own right, we thought it would be good to choose stories with a long history, and that is how we settled on these seven.
There are many other movies with fascinating villains, so it was a very difficult decision."
-Twst Game Guide (2020)
Tumblr media
She also goes into detail about the different eras during which the movies were set, which may also have influenced which were selected! More here! (Youtube)
But there may be more going on than we have been told 👀 There are theories that "death" is another theme that links the dorms together!
All members of the Great Seven were villains that either died in their movies (Scar, Ursula, Maleficent, Jafar (in the second movie), the Evil Queen), or were never alive in the human sense to begin with (Queen of Hearts, Hades).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Death has never been a subtle theme in Twst, with new students at NRC arriving via coffins.
Kalim observes that, with the ceremonial robes they wear to orientation, "it's like we're attending a funeral."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And there are also the ghosts!
While it seems possible to be born as a ghost (according to Crowley and Eliza), Lilia says that ghosts "linger here due to powerful attachments or personal motives...they aren't visible outside of magically suffused locations like Night Raven College," and that they "linger" by choice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this brings back to the prefect!
In the manga, all three prefects that we have seen thus far have had names connected to the afterlife:
・Heartslabyul Arc, Enma Yuuken (円満 雄剣): Enma's family name is pronounced the same (the kanji is different) as 閻魔 (Enma), the king of hell in Buddhism. From the Kyoto National Museum website: "The King of Buddhist Hell is Enma, who is also the judge of the afterlife."
・Savanaclaw Arc, Hirasaka Yuuka (比良坂 悠河): "Hirasaka" is written and pronounced the same as the hirasaka of Yomotsu-hira Saka, known as "The Entrance to the Underworld" in Shintoism, explained on Shimane Prefecture's official tourism website: "Yomotsu-hira Saka appears as the boundary between the land of the dead and the land of the living."
・Octavinelle Arc, Mito Yuuta (三途 宥太): "Mito" uses the same kanji as 三途川, the "River of Three Crossings," which is "a mythological river the souls of the deceased must cross by one of three crossing points." Credit to blogger Tansho for the discovery that "River Styx" was changed to 三途川 in the Japanese-language dub of the "Hercules" TV show.
So there is definitely a theme of the prefect filling a role between life and death!
While one theory is that the prefect ended up in Twisted Wonderland after they died (in the manga it is insinuated that all three prefects were hit by vehicles directly before waking up at NRC), another theory is that they're not quite dead yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If that is the case then they may be close (Grim wakes them up prematurely, and Crowley says that this is his first time having a student who opened their "gate" (coffin) on their own) and they might just be an astral projection of someone who is between life and death, appearing at the magically suffused location that is NRC.
In other words, a ghost 👀
Tumblr media
The manga is following a theme of naming its characters something involving "Yuu" (which is always the students' nickname for them) and "Yuu" is also commonly adopted as the default-name for the game's prefect.
Another word that involves a "Yuu" sound is 幽霊 (Yuurei), which means: ghost :>
(Hence the name of this blog! It is the very chuunibyou name of a twitter account I made in 2018 to complain about my job. This potential connection to Twst was completely unintentional and makes me laugh.)
Tumblr media
As for why the prefect was named Prefect of Ramshackle dorm instead of Housewarden: I am not sure! But it seems to have something to do with the unique situation that is the prefect's role.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have not technically been assigned to the overseeing of the dorm as a whole, just to Grim, so maybe that is why? :>
And it is particularly interesting as that means that the role of Housewarden of Ramshackle Dorm is still open--maybe to be filled some day...? 👀

Ignihyde is the only dorm that we don't know who is its Vice Dorm Leader is.
I'm checking Ortho but it is impossible because Ortho is not a student technically since he is a robot that is made by Idia (but who knows). And it is listed on his occupation at wiki as none.
Makes me wonder what happened to its Vice Dorm Leader :/ Isnt every dorm supposed to have a Vice Dorm Leader? or it is gonna be part of Ignihyde main story? I dont know.
Overall, can't wait for the Ignihyde Story.

I don't think you talk about newest content so it's fine to ignore this if you want but, yesterday I saw a theory that said something about the counting for chapters was changed on JP? And it's proof that 7 ended two updates ago, and now the game is going back to 1? Something about Ace's title? eopfkefkefj yeah this is vague I don't really get it but just if you've heard anything.
Hello hello!! Thank you for this question!
This blog typically pretends that main story content not released on EN does not exist because spoilers are the worst :<
I will do my very best to be vague but just to be safe, minor spoilers (vaguely plot related) under the cut!
I have also come across theories that maybe the story is going backwards now!
I think that is where "Book 7 ended two chapters ago" comes from: two chapters ago on JP the content of the Main Story changed from Diasomnia characters to Ignihyde characters!
While technically we are still in Book 7 of the main story, the content seems to be going in reverse order (further proven by the announcement of Rook's new card 👀), and the theory goes that now that we have "finished" with Book 7 (Diasomnia) and will be going to Book 6, Book 5, etc.!
The "counting for chapters was changed" part is maybe about what happened on JP back when Book 7 began:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Originally the different books were not separated into "chapters" on JP!
They were separated into beginnings, middles and ends, which worked okay when books were shorter.
But then in Book 5 and Book 6 we started getting sections called "Middle Part 1," "Ending Part 1," etc., which was confusing, but it meant that we could still more or less tell how far along we were in the story and when we could expect it to end.
With Book 7, everything changed!
Tumblr media
Suddenly we no longer have a "beginning," "middle" and "end"--we have are numbered chapters. The game has broken from its own, linear, "Book 6 -> Book 7 -> Book 8" timeline, and now anything is possible!
And that is not all! We also ran out of dorm uniform cards. Dorm cards were not released until we reached the Book about the dorm in question, and then right after Diasomnia received their dorm cards, they also received Book 7-exclusive cards that seem to be related to the new titles released on both EN and JP:
Tumblr media
Ortho's new title for Book 7 and his Cereberus Gear is, for example, Guardian of the Underworld.
The theory says new cards do not have personal stories behind them because the information that would normally be included in these cards has been woven into the main story (which has also been proven true of both Lilia and Sebek). Another part of the game that Book 7 has changed!
It seems that the new titles will each be associated with their own cards, picked up in backwards-order just like the dorm uniform cards were picked up in forwards-order.
And that brings us to Ace's title:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If this theory is true, Heartslabyul is going to be one of the last, if not the very last dorm that we visit. And Ace's new title has been taken directly from the summon line of his dorm uniform: Trump Card of Hearts 👀
But, like most theories, this one is not air-tight!
If we are truly going backwards to pick up all the new cards, then where are Malleus' "Ruler of the Abyss" and Silver's "Knight of Dreams" cards? Aren't we already in Book 6? And if we're already going into Book 5 with Rook, have we already skipped Idia's card for "King of the Underworld"? Are they skipping overblotters for some reason and saving them for later? (Silver's missing card has an entirely separate theory of its own.)
I do not know! :> But I do very much like the theory that we have technically already completed Book 7 (Book 7) content, maybe even Book 7 (Book 6) content, next will be Book 7 (Book 5) content, etc., as the game progresses! ^^ Exciting!

i remember hearing once that leona can drive a car? truth?
Hello hello! Thank you for this question!
⚠️Spoiler for Tamashina Mina Event⚠️
Yes he can ^^ Leona drives the other students around during the Tamashina Mina event, and his driving is also the subject of his vignette.
The other characters compliment him on his driving skills and he says he enjoys driving alone in general, without needing to have any particular destination.

Context please this is fucking funny
Certainly! Here are the two images, and Yana's original tweet can be found here.
She explains,
"This is a sketch I drew for Hazuki and Kowono when I asked them to have Yuuken hold Grim like a kendo sword. And the rough draft that I drew for how I wanted young Chenya to look as he pulled out a hedgehog. Kowono saved these at the time, so I'm sharing them."

Hi yuurei! Simple question: did Malleus have a special tutor growing up or did Lilia also serve as his tutor? That’s all, thanks!
Hello hello!! Thank you for this question! ^^
I think you are right about both things!
Tumblr media
In his fourth birthday vignette Malleus explains that he had multiple tutors for things like history and manners, but he was so much more powerful than his magic tutors that as a young child he would throw temper tantrums out of frustration and drive them away.
Tumblr media
Malleus also mentions an unnamed "mentor" who would scold him most severely every time he drove off one of those tutors, and it is possible that that mentor was Lilia!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Malleus mentions Lilia cutting his hair, having him memorize a book about survival, singing to him at night and teaching him how to play string instruments, while Lilia himself says that he trained Malleus (in addition to Silver and Sebek), so it seems that multiple people including Lilia have been involved in Malleus' education! :>

Continuing from a previous ask : what are easier / harder / Malleus-level magics? (easier / vague magics listed here, harder magics listed here, "precision magic" here) Part 4/4
Malleus' Magic
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teleportation:
Malleus seems to be capable of at least two different kinds of teleportation, one that appears identical to Lilia's ability to teleport and one that involves green flames. The only time we have seen him use the green flames was when he brought Silver along with him, so it is possible they are a side effect of having a passenger (or they may have just been for dramatic effect. Crowley comments on Malleus' ability to make a bold entrance in a vignette).
There is also the teleportation spell he uses in his vignette to link the Mirror Chamber to Diasomnia, transporting all the housewardens and Crowley against their will.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Returning to "proper" place/shape/form:
Malleus has used this spell three times now, once to return the coliseum back to how it was before Vil's overblot (which he describes as "even more trifling of a task than re-weaving unraveled fabric") and then again to return Vil to his proper age.
Malleus explains that even he cannot turn back time, and the spell involved him sharing magic with Vil. While a seemingly impressive feat, Malleus later says that it required "a paltry amount of magic" from him.
Tumblr media
After the VDC, Ambrose LXIII says that he is "picking up traces of large-scale magic all over the coliseum," but it is never explained if it was Malleus' magic or Vil's overblot (or the combination of both) that he was sensing.
Tumblr media
The third time is during Spectral Soiree, when he returns the "Sparkling Hall" to its true form and we learn that he doesn't even need to have seen what the "true form" of a person or thing is in advance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Weather:
Lilia says that Malleus has been magically controlling the weather since he was a child, breaking boulders with lightning bolts when he threw tantrums.
Malleus threatens Magicam Monsters with lightning when they enrage him, summons thunder at the beginning of Firelit Sky when Jamil is reluctant to allow him to join the group and summons a powerful lightning strike out of rage at Rollo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He also tells a story about nearly freezing the entire castle in which he lived (and all the people in it) as a child, "back when (he'd) finally started walking on two legs."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of this combined with how he unconsciously summons a blizzard in Book 7 seem to hint that his weather-based powers may not be entirely under his own control, but during Halloween he consciously summons lightning to frighten Magicam Monsters away.
Tumblr media
Attacks:
Malleus will occasionally threaten the use of attack-magic, but what it might entail (Lightning? Fire?) is not shown or explained.
Tumblr media
Flight:
Like Lilia, Malleus does not require a broom for flight. He says that he has enough power to fly to anywhere in the world that he wishes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other Malleus magics we have seen and/or heard about are: ・Animating the long display at Ramshackle Dorm during Halloween ・Stopping time on campus (using his own power combined with the school's barrier and ghost-magic) and trapping everyone at the school
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
・Growing enough briar to fill Diasomnia ・Washing clothes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
・Dualcasting wind and fire magic simultaneously ("It doesn't have to be be a tornado!" - Deuce) ・Summoning rare ore ・"Fire-breathing magic" (unclear if this is limited to his dragon form or if he can breathe fire all of the time)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
・Levitating a truck ("I'm pretty sure only Malleus could pull off a feat like that…" - Epel) ・Using fire magic to light all the lanterns in Briar Valley ・Creating a tuxedo look for Lilia

hello! i was thinking about jamil’s family recently and remembered an exchange between him and najma during firelit skies. in EN, she calls him “bro/dude” (can’t really recall which at the moment ;;) and he reacts with “since when do you call me bro/dude!?” I was wondering what this exchange is like in JP? is it possibly an attempt to localize her using casual language with him, or is it a switch from something like “nii-san” to “aniki”? thank you so much in advance!
Hello hello!! Thank you for this question! ^^
Yes yes! This is EN doing its best to adapt to the use of a word that doesn't really exist in English!
Tumblr media
For some quick background: there are several ways to say the word "this" in Japanese, depending on how casually you are speaking.
When you are introducing a person (ex: "This is my brother"), one way you can do so is by using the form of "this" read as kochira (こちら).
In the example above Jade is not introducing anyone, but he is using the polite "this," because he speaks formally all of the time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we have Rollo using similarly polite forms of "that": one for when someone/something is closer to the listener than the speaker (そちら, sochira) and another for when someone is far away from both people in a conversation (あちら, achira).
In this way we know that Idia is closer to Azul than he is to Rollo and that Riddle is far away from all three of them, simply from the form of the "that" that Rollo is using.
And these can be very important distinctions! For example, that time there were translations alleging that Silver was going into the prefect's bedroom, because of confusion about the difference between "this" and "that":
Tumblr media
The "this" that Najma uses when introducing herself as Jamil's sister is not the polite こちら but the casual これ(written in katakana above as コレ), which is very impolite to use with humans!
Tumblr media
You can use it with objects (re: above, Jamil uses the same これ about a lamp that he is holding), but not people. Najma is essentially saying, "I am the little sister of this."
(Here is an English-language article about this on Tofugu!)
Tumblr media
Jamil reacts with something close to, "What's with looking at your older brother and saying "this"!, but as the English language does not have different words to denote different levels of politeness, their interaction had to be rewritten for EN.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That is where Najma saying "dude" came from, which I thought was a cute and effective solution ^^

hi ! do we know whats considered easy / hard magic ? as in like what is considered beginner level magic and what is considered malleus draconia level magic
Hello hello, thank you so much for this question!
I went through the game and collected all examples of non-unique, non-artifact, non-flight-magic that I could find, and there was a lot! So much that this answer is going to be separated into four parts m(_ _)m Apologies for any inconvenience!
First are the magics that seem to be easier than others: Color-Change Magic, Fireworks, Flames, Ice, Levitation, Basic Construction, Cooking
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Color-Change Magic:
Sebek describes color-change magic as being extremely basic, saying that is is one of the first things that human mages learn upon entering school.
Floyd calls it a "baby magic," and Vil tells Jade a story about using it to change the color of his and his father's clothing to avoid paparazzi shortly after he enrolled at NRC and before he was able to do more complex spells.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cater asks Ace, Deuce and Grim to use color-change magic on their first day of school before they have attended a single class, apparently assuming that they would already know how to do it, but Deuce and Grim both struggle (as does Ace in a vignette).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fireworks:
Grim is capable of creating an impressive fireworks display, as are Deuce and Ruggie, and none of the three are known for being particularly adept students or mages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Flames:
Jamil talks about using fire magic when he was still "a literal child," and both Grim and Epel also use fire magic in the game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ice:
Deuce seems capable of using ice magic, despite still being a first-year student.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Levitation:
Deuce also seems fairly adept at levitation, and Kalim says that getting a parrot feather to float was the first magic he ever did.
Levitation might have been an early form of magic for Epel as well: he says that he was moving crates of apples with magic prior to enrolling at NRC.
Grim struggles with levitating chairs in a vignette, but this seems to be less of an issue with the magic itself and more a problem with precision (more on this later 👀).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crowley recommends that the students eject Magicam Monsters via levitation during Halloween, so he may expect that they are all capable of using it.
Tumblr media
Simple Construction:
Ace creates a surfboard with ease during the Stitch event, so simple construction projects may not be too high level.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cooking:
Not known for being one of the more talented students at the school, Kalim still seems to be able to cook with magic.
Uncertain: Summoning, Wind and Attacks
Tumblr media
Summoning:
Deuce has been summoning cauldrons since before enrolling at NRC. Ace attempts to mimic him in Book 3 but says, "summoning magic ain't my strongest suit," so it is possible that this is just a particular strength of Deuce's rather than an overall easier magic (or maybe a particular weakness for Ace?).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wind:
Ace has been using wind magic since the prologue, but it is a little unclear if it is a simpler magic for beginners overall or if Ace just happens to be particularly adept at it. It is possible that Jamil is the only other person we have seen use wind magic.
Tumblr media
Attacks:
Even the magic-school-dropout in Book 5 is capable of using magic for attacks, so basic "attack magic" seems to be a fairly simple ability.
But the attacks we see in the game tend to be vague! Are the characters using things like wind, water and fire and it just isn't being specified? Or is there something else going on?

(This was originally an ask received through Twitter)
"Hello! Can you please elaborate on the time loop theory in book 2 that you mentioned in the tweet where you talked about your favourite theories?"
I am wary about discussing this theory as there are many others who have put much more thought into it than I have, but I can certainly try with what I was able to find :>
(The information in this thread was combined from here, here, here, and here)
The basic theory is that everything we know is repeating in a loop in an attempt to either stop something from happening or to make something happen.
Tumblr media
The game’s tagline of “I will show you a true happy ending” (EN: “Let us show you the real happily-ever-after”) could be insinuating that there have already been less than happy endings, and we may have already seen one: while some theorize that the events of the prologue are showing us what is going to happen in the future, others say that it is both that and something that has already happened.
Tumblr media
The theory goes that the battle with the chimera (who may or may not be an overblotted Grim) was lost and everyone (or just the prefect) is sent back to try again, thus the opening lines of the game narrated in Crowley’s voice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Note: I would have translated this as “I—they—you—only have a little time left. Whatever you do, don’t let go”, but the situation is so vague that anything is possible.)
(Here is a short comic insinuating that this time loop is Crowley’s unique magic (warning: blood, death, a Yuu design))
This theory seems to be largely inspired by Mickey’s comment that he has seen the same dream three times but he also says “your voice gets clearer and clearer every time.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since Mickey also shows up in Books 2 and 3 but we were not able to speak with him, it is possible that this is not actually hinting at two earlier loops, just earlier events within the same timeline. This does not dismiss the time loop theory and might mean that this is Mickey’s first time interacting with the loop, but there have been far more than just two or three timelines.
(This account pretends that Book 7 does not exist yet, so that is about as specific as I can get.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The theory gets kind of wild with references to STYX’s simulation system, supposed inconsistencies with Ace and Epel, Crowley’s potential connection to STYX, etc, but one thing that everyone seems to agree on is: Leona knows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leona is extremely powerful and extremely private.
He has had a number of contracts with Azul who is also a powerful mage, and according to Idia he seems like “the kind of guy who always knows he’s dreaming.”
Yana has confirmed that Idia has a part in Book 7 and, with both him and Leona halfway out of their coffins in promotional art, people are wondering if Leona will be stepping up as well.
We know that Riddle’s current personality is a 180 degree change from original plans and that this change was made pretty far into development, after everything had already been approved.
There are also rumors that Leona’s Book 2 was the original Book 6, looking at older promotional information (Book 2 was originally listed between Ignihyde and Diasomnia on the official website).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is possible that—much like Riddle’s situation—Yana came up with a better idea than what had originally been decided, and it required shoehorning Leona’s drama into an earlier Book in order to make it work.
This would mean that Book 7 used to have significant space for Leona (there is a pattern of the previous Overblotter having a role in the next Book).
That space may have been rewritten for Idia, but it is also possible that Idia’s role was added separately and a role for Leona remains to some extent, which is why they went out of their way to say that Leona knows when he is in a dream.
Theories vary from “Leona is 100% aware of what is going on, broke free from the loop and he is the only one getting older as he tries to save the world” to “Leona knows something isn’t right but not exactly what.”
The proof that people usually point to is his comment where he is unsurprised by Grim “always” eating black stones (which he shouldn’t know anything about), but the phrasing is so vague that he could just be making the connection between the stones and a potential blot-risk.
Another scene that is often referenced in the “Leona knows” conversation is an interaction with Jamil where he accurately predicts Jamil’s attack on Kalim despite how rarely they interact before Book 6.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are also the three white chess pieces on the chessboard in Leona’s bedroom that seem to correspond to the only three characters in the game with light cosmic magic: a white rook for Rook, a white knight for Silver and a white pawn for Kalim, whom Leona literally refers to as a pawn piece in chess during Tamashima-Mina (these three chess pieces are also displayed prominently in Leona's first Birthday groovy).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leona also seems suspicious of Crowley, suspects what really happened in Book 5 and is able to literally sniff out magic, which we have seen no other character capable of doing.
Leona is very perceptive in general: he is suspicious of Lilia in Spectral Soiree, calls him an old man when no other character outside of Diasomnia knows his true age, is the first to figure out that Malleus is pretending to be possessed and is able to tell when someone becomes injured and is trying to hide it in both Book 6 and an event.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is not proof that Leona knows what is happening, but it may be an argument for why it is likely that he knows more than he is willing to let on.
Some versions of the time loop theory say that the same prefect is being sent back over and over again to try and save everyone (which ties into the game’s opening), while other versions say that this is the prefect’s first time being summoned into a loop that has been going on for a long time without them, in an effort by someone (Crowley?) to change the ending of the story.
While not technically part of the game, the Twst novelization supports the first pattern while the manga series supports the second, with new prefects showing up after the previous prefect presumably fails.
Knowing Yana it is possible that the game is actually a third, entirely different pattern with the novel and manga exploring alternatives that were considered for the game but not used.

So how many people do we know the circumstances of how they got their unique magic now? Like Riddle apparently studied really hard and got it, Idia was born with it, and Deuce and Epel's were both shown in game.
Hello hello!! Thank you for this question!
Tumblr media
As you say we have confirmed Riddle's unique magic manifested when he was 10 through sheer effort (at his mother's behest), which was also confirmed in the novel.
"‘Does that mean that you cannot discover your unique magic without studying?,’ Yuuya asks. With a contemplative look, Riddle responds, 'That is not always the case, but it was for me.'"
"Riddle learned ‘Off With Your Head’ when he was only ten years old. According to Trey, it was the result of Riddle’s devotion to his studies and his mother’s strict supervision."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Riddle is particularly interesting because it is insinuated during Book 6 both by Idia and Riddle himself that he was maybe never meant to have the power that he does, but his mother decided she was going to birth a powerful magic-user and brute forced it into happening, artificially enlarging his magic pool to ensure he'd "be an exceptional mage, starting from when (he) was in the womb."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deuce is our first time seeing a unique magic manifest on screen in an interesting example of how it can happen without the user even realizing it before, during, or after the process.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like Deuce, Epel's magic also manifests from his efforts to protect others from harm, but it was a slightly less confusing experience as Epel had Rook on hand for advice (and Rook seems very comfortable with the role of "unique magic manifestation coach." Was this possibly not his first time being present for the initial appearance of someone's unique magic?)
Tumblr media
In both the (original) game and the novel, it is mentioned that Leona was born with his unique magic:
"Unique magic that is inherited at birth has nothing to do with the person’s will, but humans wrapped up in their own superstitions are ignorant to common sense. Or maybe they think this is a power that I desired, and fought to obtain."
The situation is a little vague but I don't think this means that he was turning people and things into sand as an infant, but rather King's Roar just manifested naturally around the time he came into his magic, instead of being something he studied for, fought for, or even wanted in the first place (in contrast to other mages).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We technically see the process of Azul crafting his unique magic through sheer effort via a flashback: unlike Riddle, who worked for his UM to please his mother, Azul seems to have been motivated by a desire for revenge.
He says that he spent years "studying everything (he) could get (his) hands on," but while Azul seems to have designed the spell himself, it's possible that he didn't know he was creating what would be come his own unique magic at the time. He might just have wanted a spell--any spell--to take talent from others, and it becoming his unique magic was possibly an unintentional bonus.
(Which really makes me wonder what it was that Riddle was doing when his UM manifested at 10 years old. Was it born from a conscious or subconscious urge to stop someone from using magic, like Azul, or did it adapt to the situation he was in at the time, like Epel and Deuce?)
Tumblr media
As you say, adding to the list of ways that Idia and Leona are curiously similar, Idia was also born with his unique magic.
He seems to have inherited it directly from his father, who inherited it from Idia's grandmother, Aidne, former head of the Shroud family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This poses several questions, such as whether or not human-Ortho had also been born with this magic but died before it had been able to manifest, what will happen to the Island of Woe if it is ever left without a blood-relative heir, do cousins count, etc.
I don't think there has been too much information yet about how/when Idia's magic manifested, but it may be a similar situation to Leona, much like how Azul's situation seems similar to Riddle's.
And I think that may be everyone we have heard of thus far! Trey, Cater, Ruggie, Jack, Jade, Floyd, Kalim, Jamil, Rook, Vil and the others have all been fairly quiet about how their unique magics first appeared.
(I am dying to discuss the various magics of Book 7, but this blog pretends that nothing from the main story exists until it is released on EN. Hope to revisit this topic again as EN progresses through the ongoing story! Exciting!)

I don't know if you answered this yet but does Idia's hair burn?
Hello hello! Thank you for this question! :>

Idia says that his hair is not usually hot, even offering to let the prefect touch it to test for themselves!
He says, "it can get that way when I'm mad," though, so maybe when his hair turns to normal fire-color, that is when it is hot to the touch?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(He also says that his neck is cold when his hair is pulled back, but that also happens with normal, non-flame hair, so that might not be relevant.)
And the difference between the blue-flames of Twst and the fire-color flames of Twst seems to be important!
Tumblr media
In Idia's case the blue flames are said to be the manifestation of his family curse, and Ortho seems to suspect that the same might be true for Grim, who has similar blue flames and is under the effects on a mysterious spell.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though Ortho says that his blue hair is also made of fire just like his brother's, he also says that it's just artificially generated, is not the manifestation of a curse like Idia's, and he can change the color at will (which we see in action during Fairy Gala IF).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the more interesting implementations of the blue flames in the game might have been a mistake: in the original release of Malleus' labwear vignette on JP, when Deuce asks Malleus to summon wind or fire to help dry out something, Malleus initially summoned blue flames.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This posed a few questions:
・Does Malleus have access to whatever curse-capable magic it is that torments Idia and has been cast on Grim?
・Aren't Malleus' signature flames supposed to be green? How many different flames can he summon, and what is the difference between them?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But it seems that Malleus summoning blue flames was an error of some kind: they have since been updated to normal flame-color on JP (and they have been flame-color on EN from the start).
Blue is the color of the flames that Grim summons, and it's possible that he's supposed to be the only one capable of doing so, thus the correction to Malleus' labwear.
This makes it seem like the blue, heat-less flames of the Twst-universe are unique: they're not the flames summoned for normal flame magic (normal flame color) and they're not Malleus' signature flames (the green flames that can be seen around the school pose a lot of questions of their own but that is theory territory).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The blue flames may be a thus-far unconfirmed third thing, possibly marking a powerful curse and/or blessing that has yet to be explained.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The rules of Grim's flames seem a little bit vague: he refers to it as "fire magic" and no one corrects him, despite the color, and it seems capable of burning when he wants it to despite never changing to normal-flame-color like Idia's do. It makes one wonder what color flames Idia summons when performing fire magic!
Grim also retains the blue flames in his ears after losing the ability to summon blue fire as an attack in Book 3, so it is possible that the rules of his ear-flames are similar to those of Idia's hair-flames, while the blue fire he can actually control has rules of its own?
(If Grim's and Idia's respective blue flames are indeed the same, as Ortho suspects, the game might have indirectly answered the question "what happens to Idia's hair when he showers" in Book 3: Grim goes underwater and cannot use his fire magic, but his ear-flames remain.)

hi there!! idk if you've answered this before, but did the 5 student overblots happen over the span of 5 months ? one happening each month ? idk if im misremembering but I was sure that in book 6 that was mentioned, yet I can't find the chapter it's in. im assuming since the twst school year starts in september, riddle was the first, with vil being the last OB before book 6 sometime in january, but im not 100% sure
Hello hello! Thank you for this question!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am not sure if we can pinpoint that overblots have been happening at a pace of exactly once a month, but as you say in Book 6 we learn from Idia that there have been five overblots "in less than six months," which he says on the same day as he overblots himself!
Tumblr media
The Main Story will occasionally drop hints about the timeline: we know that the start of the school year is in September, and Cater mentions mentoring new students in Book 1 (in reference to the prefect, Grim, Ace and Deuce), so it does seem like Book 1 takes place in September!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also know that the Interdorm Spelldrive Tournament of Book 2 is in October and Book 3 begins with the final exams of the year (typically held at the end of November in real life, but not actually specified in game).
Book 4 begins on the last day of the fall semester and ends with Ace and Deuce wishing the prefect Happy New year, as they are reuniting for the first time post-winter vacation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The VDC is held in mid-February, and the students are kidnapped by Charon "a few days later!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An exact, official timeline may not have yet been released anywhere (that I have been able to find), but based on these clues we might be able to guess the following:
September: Riddle Overblot
October: Leona Overblot
November: Azul Overblot
December: Jamil Overblot
February: Vil and Idia Overblot
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Malleus is a little more vague! There is a comment from Lilia about the transition into spring at the beginning of Book 7 and we know that the Interscholastic Spelldrive Tournament is in May!
If the tournament has not yet happened, the timing of Malleus' overblot is presumably sometime between February and May. If it is also still pre-spring-break, perhaps it was sometime in March? But this is all conjecture! :>

How do you think Idia got his unique magic? Does it say if he was born with it or something, or was it inevitable he would get that specific unique magic? Is it possible to be born with a unique magic in the first place?
Hello hello! Thank you for this question!
Tumblr media
Idia says that people born into the Shroud family all have the same unique magic!
A part of Idia's issues is how so much of his life has been decided on his behalf and there is nothing he can do to change his fate no matter what he does, so I think you are right and it was inevitable that one day "Gate to Underworld" would manifest! (Does this mean that every member of the Shroud family is guaranteed to be a mage? Interesting~)
I like your phrasing very much! Does "this unique magic was inevitable" equate to being born with a unique magic?
From what we have seen in the game and the second novel: I think so!
Tumblr media
Both game-Leona and novel-Leona comment on how he was born with a unique magic that he never actually wanted.
Novel-Leona goes into more detail with the scorn he received back home due to the misconception that you have to desire and work towards a specific form of unique magic if it is to manifest, which isn't true at all:
"Unique magic that is inherited at birth has nothing to do with the person’s will, but humans wrapped up in their own superstitions are ignorant to common sense. Or maybe they think this is a power that I desired, and fought to obtain." - Leona in Twst the Second Novel
To answer the questions: Idia's unique magic passes down through the Shroud bloodline, so I believe it is safe to say that he was born with Gate to Underworld!
And it does seem possible to be born with a unique magic, as Leona explains, directly. (It is intersting that both characters also have parallel family issues: both of them born into elite families and trapped in roles they want to move beyond, but can't. In addition to their other various similarities)
But this might not mean that baby-Idia was opening and closing the door to the underworld while baby-Leona was turning people to sand!
It is possible that their respective unique magics manifested at whatever age they were when their magic itself made itself known.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for what age that might have been: I think it has yet to be confirmed how old mages generally are when their magic starts to appear!
Riddle says that he was receiving special training in magic from the age of three, but Riddle is a special case and probably not a good frame of reference for what is "normal" in this universe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deuce mentions using magic in middle school, but in Azul's flashback we learn that he was experimenting with magic and spells from an even younger age: while removed from EN, the passage of time between Azul studying spells and sigils and getting control of "It's a Deal" are denoted via the labels "Child Azul" and "Middle School Azul."
The age at which your magic appears might just vary by person! If earlier manifestation = stronger magic, it might actually be possible that Idia and Leona were using magic as children. But one thing seems consistent: whether Riddle or Deuce, it seems that there are generally several years in between a mage coming into their magic and their unique magic manifesting. (But does this also apply to mages who are born with their unique magics, or do they have theirs from the start? Uncertain!)
What might be still vague is how this applies to faeries!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Malleus says that he lives and breathes magic, but according to Lilia Sebek's magic manifested late, with even Silver becoming capable of using magic before Sebek could.
This might mean that faeries, too, have a period of their lives before they become capable of using magic, but it also might just be an effect of Sebek being half human--I am not sure it has been confirmed as of this post!
Tumblr media
Lilia mentions Malleus emitting puffs of flame as a baby, but this may be less a "magical infant" situation and more a "that is a dragon" situation.
Malleus himself explains that he once froze nearly the entire castle in which he lived, "back when (he'd) finally started walking on two legs," so it seems that he was wielding magic from very early on!

Does novel Leona treat Yuuya differently compared to the game. I mean, cause in the game I'm pretty sure we are the background character despite being MC. As we just stand at sideline while other characters talk.
Hello hello! Thank you for this question!
The most significant difference between Leona and the prefect in the game and Leona and Yuuya in the novels is Leona's introduction: in the game Leona threatens them, but in the novel he rescues them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The entire scene of the prefect stepping on Leona's tail and Leona becoming violent was removed from the novel!
Leona's introduction was moved to the scene where Deuce and the prefect are being harassed by bullies from Heartslabyul.
Tumblr media
Leona saves Yuuya, Deuce and Grim from the bullies, who were rewritten to be from Savanaclaw, with Ruggie revealing that he'd called Leona over to do exactly that. (Leona observing that Yuuya does not smell of magic was retained.)
Leona's introduction scene has been translated in full, here!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leona and the prefect only exchange two lines in Book 2 of the game, with the first being where Leona recalls the prefect stepping on his tail and the prefect apologizing for it.
Leona and the prefect interact in the same scene in the novel, though there is no mention of tails since the botanical garden scene never happened. Instead it is Yuuya pointing out that Savanaclaw may be disqualified if the teachers hear about them fighting and Leona responds they will not be fighting at all, but merely playing a game of Spelldrive.
Tumblr media
Later in the novel Yuuya and Leona exchange two lines again, with Yuuya declaring that he will be going for help and Leona encouraging him to do so.
(Translated here!)
The second time Leona and the prefect interact directly in the game is at the end of Book 2 when the prefect points out that Leona doesn't sound particularly remorseful.
Tumblr media
Yuuya does not go so far to accuse Leona of anything in the novel's infirmary scene but Leona does acknowledge him once, growling at him after Yuuya begins to smile in relief that Leona is not as lost as he'd feared (translated below!).
With the removal of the botanical gardens scene I think we might be able to say that Leona is less harsh towards the prefect in the novel than he is in the game (from what we have seen in the first two books), having been rewritten to protect them rather than threaten them.
They still have only exchanged two or three lines in the novel as of this post, but looking forward to the third novelization! :> A third novel has not yet been announced, but maybe one day!
