My media this week (3-9 Sep 2023)
📚 STUFF I READ 📚
😊 What's Left of Kisses (What's Left of Kisses #1) (Draco_sollicitus) - 86K, shrunkyclunks with Cap!Steve & mild-mannered history teacher Bucky (who's got some past trauma & secrets even he doesn't know about)
😊 It Always Finds A Way (What's Left of Kisses #2) (Draco_sollicitus) - 90K, shrunkyclunks, sequel to above - lots of angst and action and evil government scientists as Bucky tries to adjust to being superpowered (imo doesn't quite stick the landing but still an enjoyable fic)
😊 hic sunt dracones (robotguts) - 45K, steddie, cute af, low angst modern AU where eddie's a professional DM Steve hires for the group of kids he babysits
💖💖 +187K of shorter fic so shout out to these I really loved 💖💖
[podfic] Enfolding (jennisaisquoi (mcmuffins)) - Band Sinister [KJ Charles]: Corvin/Amanda /David, 3K - extremely delightful story, excellently done podfic
Second Nature (MoreThanSlightly (cadignan)) - Ted Lasso: Keeley/Roy/Jamie, 27K - Second Nature 'verse #1 - I am feral over this fic - gender/body swap with lots of gender fuckery and all sorts of goodness. Really felt like the author nailed the character voices. Loved loved loved it!
Three Ways to Saturday (MoreThanSlightly (cadignan)) - Ted Lasso: Keeley/Roy/Jamie, 1K - Second Nature 'verse #2 - outsider (Beard's) POV of the preceding fic - also stellar character voice, fun to see the different POV

The Summer of Heartstopper Music, Vol. 1
I think it's funny (but possibly only noteworthy to my obsessive little brain) that I associate the mixtape from the first season of Heartstopper with summertime. After all, moving through all four seasons is so essential to the structure of the story (Nick & Charlie together in autumn 🍂, in winter ❄️, in spring 🌸, and in summer 🏖️.)
But I first watched the show, fell in love with the comic, and started listening to the soundtrack & show playlist on absolute repeat last May...and then the music stayed with me intensely through summer drives, through inviting friends over to watch the show with me in June and July, through nights cooking with my family in August. So now (especially after tapering off a bit on listening to Heartstopper ROUND THE CLOCK) when a track shuffles on randomly, I'm suddenly singing along in a summer mood.
This is particularly bizarre because I live somewhere currently blanketed with snow and temperatures well below freezing.
P.S. Apologies for northern hemisphere myopia here ;-)

3. What is a film you absolutely despise and why?
oh man. i mean theres the easy pickings of Jesse Eisenberg Tummy Hurts Movie [the hummingbird project] which is so awful i had to fast forward through a lot of it and Will Forte Will Arnett Pregnancy Movie [the brothers solomon] which i think is the worst movie i have ever seen but to be more interesting ill pick this fucking. awful movie nerve [2016] which is something i had to memorise for year 12 media studies . its a 'social media bad' movie for teens where these people and fucking. dave franco i guess get onto this . app where they have to livestream themselves doing increasingly dangerous dares ? that theyre not allowed to like. tell any adults or the authorities about in case it gets shut down i think. as far as i remember . and it is very stupid and bad and awful and i was expected to analyse the themes or whatever of it in an exam. as a contrast to rebel without a cause. awful movie
6. What is your least favorite genre of film?
hmmm. i dont like westerns i think theyre boring nd boring to look at. and i dont really like straight star trek esque sci fi / space movies either. i hate space and deserts. i also dont like most action movies . theyre boring and the action is never cut well so i cant follow it . this is multiple answers. biopics can go to hell too
12. Which movie has your favorite soundtrack?
auuugh i dont remember movie soundtracks very well i dont pay attention to them like i do tv soundtracks. i think they cloned tyrone had a cool soundtrack from what i remember
