Day 6 of learning to draw people. Here is the 6th and last wife of Henry VIII, Catherine Parr. Catherine's mother, Maude Green was one of the ladies in waiting to Henry's 1st wife, Catherine of Aragon, and was named after the Spanish Queen, who was her godmother. Catherine was a unique woman for her time. She was an author, twice published, and also twice widowed when she married Henry, but she had her heart set on another man, but she couldn't exactly say no to the King, but they did have a good relationship with Henry, even though they did have one hiccup with the topic of religion, because she was a staunch Protestant, but she talked her way out of being arrested, insisting that she wanted to hear Henry's opinion on the matter. She serves as a nurse companion for the aging King, and shortly before he died, she talked him into reconciliation with his daughters, Mary and Elizabeth and restored them to the succession, after being deemed illegitimate, and was especially close to the Princess Elizabeth. Shortly after Henry's death, she finally married the man she originally loved, Thomas Seymour, the late Queen Jane Seymour's brother, but he broke her heart when he tried to seduce Princess Elizabeth, who was 14 at the time. I feel for Catherine because she had 3 previous marriages, but the one that she genuinely loved, ended up not being true to her. So far, the first week into the New Year, I decided on the 6 wives of the infamous King Henry VIII, to kick off learning how to draw people. These were only a few drafts, as I honestly feel like they look better that way, I will at some point turn them into paintings. After this, whenever I have another sketch ready, I will share it on here and save it to my portfolio. Thank you guys for the feedback, I appreciate it! #catherineparr #tudordynasty #henryviii #drawing https://www.instagram.com/p/CnFqMyAu2mZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

October 6th 1536, death by strangulation while being tied to a stake, of English scholar, and Protestant reformer William Tyndale. Executed for heresy, despite the intercession of Thomas Cromwell, chief minister to Henry VIII; Tyndale ten years previously had published, utilizing the new technology of the printing press, the first English Bible of the Reformation. The translation was both a challenge to the Catholic church, and to English law. It is with hypocritical irony therefore, that Tyndale’s translation was to serve only four years later, as the basis of Henry’s official Great Bible, with the final break with Rome, and the foundation of the Church of England. Tyndale’s final words "at the stake with a fervent zeal, and a loud voice", were said to have been "Lord! Open the King of England's eyes." On the same day in 1542, English poet and ambassador Thomas Wyatt also died, six years after his arrest and imprisonment in the Tower of London, accused of committing adultery with Anne Boleyn. During his imprisonment in the Tower in 1536, it is speculated that he witnessed the execution of Anne Boleyn, from his cell window as well as the execution of George Boleyn, Anne’s brother accused of incest and Henry Norris, Sir Francis Weston, Mark Smeaton, and William Brereton, all accused of adultry. Wyatt was saved from execution by his friendship with his patron Thomas Cromwell, whose intercession this time was successful. It is speculated however that the downfall of Anne Boleyn was actually engineered by Cromwell. Wyatt’s son also named Thomas was executed by Mary I, also known as ‘Bloody Mary’, on the 11th April 1554, for the rebellion named after him, which attempted to depose Mary in favour of her half sister Elizabeth, daughter of Anne Boleyn. The British World: The Stuarts 1603-1714. “How I came here, I know not—there’s no law for it, to make your King your prisoner.” (Charles I at his trial, 1649). Civil War and the Rule of Kings. Thomas Seymour with Rebecca Larson
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This interview was so much fun! Rebecca Larson, the host of the Tudors Dynasty Podcast, was a fount of information concerning Thomas Seymour. She has researched him extensively for her book, so her answers were full of fantastic details. If you wished to know who this person was in the Tudor times, and subsequently how he was involved in the unfolding events during (and after) King Henry VIII's reign... here is Rebecca! It is always great to interview a fellow Podcaster, as they seem to understand the blundering questions that can be mangled as you form your thoughts. Added to this issue is my French brain, and things are often very interesting for the guests! Thank you so much to this great history Podcaster, she made the process seamless!

Day 5 of drawing people. Here is the 5th wife of Henry VIII, Catherine Howard. She was only around 16-17 when Henry picked out Catherine as his 5th queen while serving as a lady in waiting to Anne of Cleves. Less than a month after Henry divorced Anne, she and Henry married. For about 2 years, Henry spoiled Catherine with clothes and jewelry, as any teenage girl, this was the dream. Unfortunately Catherine didn't remain true to Henry, as she was seeing one of his courtiers behind his back. I'm not going to defend Catherine, but she found someone better fitted for her, and she didn't exactly ask to be the Queen, she was essentially used as a bargain tool for her relatives to gain power. And even though she was unfaithful, the way she went out was very sad. And worse still, she was s.xually ab.sed when she was younger, and she also had a previous lover as well, and word got to Henry's advisors that she had previous experience with men, which devastated him. Catherine was only around 19 when she met the same fate as Henry's 2nd wife, Anne Boleyn. #catherinehoward #tudordynasty #henryviii #drawing https://www.instagram.com/p/CnDkOqaOYs3/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

On this day in history, 22 August 1485 the Battle of Bosworth Field was fought. It end the three decades of strife in England that was known as the Wars of the Roses and marked the ascendency of the Tudor dynasty to the English throne with Henry VII’s victory and the death of Richard III. I’ve always loved the house of Tudor and it’s rich history. As a descendant of the house of Lancaster through Edmund, Duke of Lancaster, brother of Edward I and the Wingfields that served the Tudor court it’s also a connection to my roots by blood. My ancestor, Sit Anthony Wingfield, served on Henry VIII’s privy council as Sheriff of Suffolk and was one of the executors of his will. @raynakingstonauthor and I have been trapped in tv shows and movies of this period of history from the Wars of the Roses through the end of the Tudor era. We’ve both become completely entranced by it. But I promise we do have news to come soon on our writing, especially for The Passion of the Dragon Saga’s third installment, Souls Ignited. Stay tuned! #history #historyfacts #thisdayinhistory #tudor #thetudors #tudorrose #tudorengland #lovehistory #warsoftheroses #tudordynasty #tudorera #medieval #historygeek #historynerd #historybuff #historygram #historylovers #writersofinstagram #writersofig #writerslife #writerscommunity #writersnetwork #writers #writersonig #writersociety https://www.instagram.com/p/B1eXiymgHnm/?igshid=o9oex0rasgfu

A faceless portrait of a woman who changed a country, and perhaps a world, and yet not much people know the story, for she was overshined by a man. "The faceless paint of Anne Boleyn" is a watercolor painting I did last night. Perhaps I'll start a series of faceless drawings of women who did great things an remain in forgetting. #anneboleyn #greensleeves #henryviii #tudordynasty #thetudors #feminism #queen #England #history #watercolor #painting https://www.instagram.com/p/BoogmajHQh1/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1c8x26hw3sbht
