It's cliche as hell maybe but gabriel being trans is a fun hc to toss around with that religious guilt of his. overachiever angel who fought his way to the top and earned the respect of the other angels and the tolerance of the council and committing countless atrocities in the process gets severed from his connection to god in the end regardless and has the most self-destructive downward spiral. failure of an angel speedrunning every sin until he kicks the bucket. it's a good thing there's a certain self-indulgent murder toaster to help him with that :)

Is Sturgeon canonically autistic? As a bit of an autistic myself, she has a lot of moments that remind me of my own experiences in that department.

On a similar note, are there other WLB characters you write with a particular mental health/neurodivergent condition in mind?

Yes, I think Sturgeon is autistic! She struggles quite a bit at being social, although I think she can read others fairly well- Outside of Fangtooth and Tansy. She is not very good at expressing herself, and can come off as cold and uncaring, when that is absolutely not the case. She also has struggles with PTSD from what Thresher put her through in her childhood, but she has learned to cope with it in her adulthood and is fairly well adjusted. (All things considering)

Egret has similar social struggles to Sturgeon, and is fidgety / stims by whipping his tail / talking with his paws frequently. He hasn't been in the story much yet, so I will say no more.

Hake I also write as autistic, although he is very extroverted, so his social struggles have not been very visible. He quite loves to make friends, and he gets attached to others very easily. His very into bugs (and the tide) and will talk for hours about either, if you let him. (He is aware he'll ramble though and tries to catch himself)

As for Mental Health, my darling Trout has been struggling with PTSD from her assassination attempts, which can be expected.

Me, almost got a bullseye at summer camps archery class, and caught a trout with little to no experience fishing after my brother died...had I been born in a celt tribe, I'd been likely to hunt deer or fished for my tribe

I’m digitizing the journal from my TRT hike. It’s clippy and cynical so feel free to ignore

Days 4-6

Day 4 Benwood Creek to Gilmore Lake

Had the site to myself, no late night neighbors. Took my time with the morning routine since I get up so early now and Colt won’t be at Echo Lake until 11-ish. I ran into two backpackers I had crossed the day before. We hiked through the surreal Caldor fire burn area. Surreal because you can tell that this trail was built more meandering than it needed to be to afford hikers more time in a formerly beautiful area, but now it’s totally scorched. I crossed highway 50 and started toward Echo Lake. I got ice cream and other goodies at the chalet. Colt met me and brought the goods. My feet felt instant relief. We hiked the first lake together, and caught up. With my feet and heart lighter, I continued up the exceptionally rocky path and eventually hit lake Aloha. Truly a long ass lake! I stopped at the end for a break. I had planned on camping at Susie Lake, but none of the sites looked good. I met two friendly hikers who were experiencing the same dilemma, and we all decided on Gilmore. I forgot what a pain in the ass the approach to Gilmore is. At least now I’m closer to Dick’s pass: my morning challenge. Lots of people and dogs at Gilmore, which I’ve come to prefer. I get so paranoid at night! Today was my first 15 mile day

Day 5 Gilmore Lake to Richardson Lake

Richardson Lake, with a view of Sourdough hill. Dick’s Pass in the morning was shady and enjoyable. The views were amaaazing. I stopped more for picture taking than I did for catching my breath. It’s wild to think that at one point this was the hardest hike of my life, and now it’s just a majestic way to start my day. There were lots of sooty grouse (forest chickens!) on Dick’s pass for me to stare at while I made use of the okay reception. Dick’s lake was a joy to see again, and Fontinellis was just as beautiful as I had imagined. The Velmas area was also pretty (surprisingly wooded) despite me being freaked out about mountain lions. The rest of Desolation tho? Dry and lame except for a few stretches of enchanted forest. The forest seems so unhealthy here. Every other tree is dead or dying, and the forest floor is completely obscured by mossy dead trees and undergrowth. I might have been a little extra cynical because I was running extremely low on water during this dry stretch. The next time a map labels a body of water as “stagnant pond”, I’ll take it to heart and plan accordingly. I made camp at Richardson Lake, and took a dip in the tannic water fully clothed. I came here afraid of the small population of green Mojave rattlesnakes, but it was a giant crawdad that I fell victim to in that lake! Little bastard got me right on the toe. I haven’t seen or heard any of the trouble making motorists this lake is known for either.

I’m really not sure if I’ll try to push for Tahoe City tomorrow or not. It would be 22 miles... in any case I’m looking forward to the Barker Pass toilets. My brain is so desperate for stimuli that sometimes the only entertainment it can muster is hurting my own feelings. I should really get a psych eval. The vocal stimming shit I get up to on the trail is also buckwild. I’m just so fucking bored on the monotonous stretches

Day 6 Richardson to Ward Creek

The walk to Barker Pass was more depressingly unhealthy forest, but it slowly got better. After a trip to the pit toilet there were seas of mule ears and very nice vistas. The final push up to Granite Chief Wilderness had some crazy switchbacks, but it was doable. I met a nice pair and their husky at the top. I got a lil dehydrated and made a rash camp choice. It seemed established but now I realize it’s very close to the creek and trail. I washed up in the creek with an audience of trout, but it’s hard for me to enjoy myself when I have to worry about my gear and animals as a solo hiker. The water I scooped for my ramen dinner had visible tiny creepy crawlies in it, but I just boiled that shit. Full of worry that’s keeping me from enjoying the present, but excited for tomorrow.

I like how androgenous my appearance is. It gives me more control over how I look in general, especially when I'm in a more feminine mood.

I like the little gap between my front teeth. I can whistle through it in the same tune as a hot kettle going off, and it's a fun sound.

I like that my toes have enough articulation and dexterity that I can grab small things with my feet.

I like the beauty spot on the left side of my face, just over my cheek.

I like how loose the skin of my hands is. One of my stims is pulling on it and sometimes twisting it in a spiral.

As someone who is ND themself and who has friends with “bad” ND disorders, I’m gonna ask neurotypical people to do a few things.

STOP DEMONIZING NEURODIVERGENT DISORDERS LIKE DID, BPD, BD, PSYCHOSIS, ASPD, ETC.

These people are NOT monsters, they are NOT your experiments to test on, they are NOT your hobby. They are living breathing people trying to live the best they can in a neurotypical focused world.

What bothers me the most is that these people are struggling, and then they don’t feel like they can reach out for help because the minute they do, they get demonized for it.

Another thing neurotypical people need to stop doing,

STOP INFANTILIZING PEOPLE WITH ADHD AND AUTISM. We are NOT infants. We are NOT incapable. We are NOT your “soft little baby.” Or some other bullshit.

We too, are people, we are also struggling, but treating us as if we’re incapable of doing anything when we very well could be is beyond insulting.

Neurodivergent people are just that, PEOPLE. Stop treating us otherwise. We just want respect.

Seriously.

Going with my first of two Inquisitors:

➥ Ashkaari Adaar

➳ BAG

He quite dislikes the feel of having any kind of bag dangling while he moves, so he stuffs everything in his pockets or beneath his armor instead. This odd habit left the entire inner circle puzzled during his first days with the Inquisition.

➳ WEAPONS

Purity’s Light: while it appears as a normal Circle staff, rumour has it a Spirit of Valor gave it to Warden Alim, who will be later known as the Hero of Ferelden, on the eve of the Attack at Nightfall. The exact circumstances under which the legendary staff was gifted to the Inquisitor are still a mystery, for it happened during a secret meeting between the two of which not a detail has yet been spoken.

➳ APPAREL

Ashkaari’s wardrobe used to be filled with just one single Antaam-saar from his Tal-Vashoth days. Attempts to persuade him into buying some other clothes or wear one of the Inquisition standard issue light armours proved to be even more difficult than bringing the golden halla back to the Dalish: walking in those ultra-covering things was as uncomfortably hot as Andraste’s pyre, according to him. Long story short, a truce was made between him, Josephine, Leliana, Vivienne and Dorian and a fine armour in the style of Qunari Shokra-taar was commissioned to the most skilled smiths working with the Inquisition, along with a freshly tailored formal attire just in time for the Winter Palace.

➳ HEALTH + MAGIC

Just the minimum wage.

➳ STEALTH

He just leaves it to Sera. She either picks a lock or bash through with plenty of arrows.

➳ TOOLS

What will a mage do without his staff nor any mana left? Utility knife! Multi-purpose tools are multi-purpose, after all. Perfect for self defense and cleaning trouts after a nice fishing session.

➳ PERSONAL

While the purposeses of these items are in fact quite obvious, one of them might not seem as well: hair ties. Ashkaari’s hair reaches his shoulders and he ties it up every morning. Tagging: myself, so I can do the meme all over again with Mihren Lavellan (ok, just kidding, I’m not sure who to tag so anyone who’s reading this and feels like doing it)
