I don’t think that reading “See? It’s not so bad… you don’t have to fly.” will never not break me. Tristan who wished to be enough for his brother, wished their life together was enough. “It’s not so bad,” he says to featherless birds, “you don’t have to fly” he tells them because he can’t say it to Sevérin.
He can’t control his brother’s actions, can’t make him stop reaching for the clouds, can’t make him see reason, but he can control the birds. He takes away a part of them, forces them to adapt to a life never meant for them, but it’s okay. They’ll learn life on land isn’t so bad. He strips them of their livelihoods, but makes them a part of the worlds he loves. Is that not love too?

Writing a pre-canon Gilded Wolves fic is fun because I get to play around with the old dynamics of the team, but so sad because I write Tristan’s name and just go :(

Alba Chrétien-Vaguet (Soprano) (Paris 1872 – Pau 1963). She studied piano at the Paris Conservatoire and took privately singing lessons. In 1893 she was engaged by the Grand Opéra in Paris (beginning role: Alice in ''Robert le Diable'' of Meyerbeer). In 1899 she appeared with great success in Aix-les-Bains as Isolde in ''Tristan und Isolde''. In 1894 she performed at the Opera House in Monte Carlo in Verdi's ''Aida''. Since 1896 she was a soloist of the Concerts Lamoureux in Paris. She was married with the tenor Albert Vaguet (1865-1943). When Albert Vaguet had to give up his career after a heavy accident (loss of a leg), she also withdrew from the music life; the couple lived that time in Pau, still gave on the occasion of concerts and been active educationally. In 1955 she still lived in Pau. She died, aged 90, in Nay, near Pau.

a family isn’t always a mom a dad and their kids, sometimes a family is an arson-inclined engineer, a baker whose alter ego is a famous dancer, a florist with a giant pet spider, a hotel owner nicknamed madman, a pretty historian, and a rich pianist

!THE GILDED WOLVES SPOILERS!
So I just finished The Gilded Wolves and my first thought after closing the book wasn’t that Laila now hates Severin. Or even that we no longer have a Tristan. It was, who is going to take care of Goliath? Now that Tristan is gone, are they taking care of his spiders? Because I am going to cry if Severin let them die.
I think this is just my way of coping until I get the next book.
