Happy Thursday y’all! Are you ready for story time? 😺 So I’m crossing the Romanian-Hungarian border and there’s quite a bit of a line. I end up behind two motorcyclists & as we’re duck waddling on our bikes to the border, I figured it’s awkward as heck for me to just waddle behind them the whole time & not saying anything. So I waddle a bit faster on my big toes & ask “Do you speak English?” They say yes! 😺 We introduce ourselves, talk about where they’re from, motorcycles, & a bit about myself. I find out they’re brothers! So neat. Then I ask, “Where are you guys going?” And they say they’re going to this motorcycle camping rock festival. Y’all, my eyes got so big 👀 They could see my interest & asked, “Do you want to come?” UHH YES! And that’s how I tagged along with these wonderful humans to a Motorcycle rock festival in Hungary & hung out with their motorcycle club for a weekend. Their crew took me in & looked after me 🥺 Most of them didn’t speak English, but we tried to communicate. I learned about how after WWI, after Hungary was split amongst the surrounding countries, that there are a lot of Hungarians separated & there was a sentiment of being left behind. It was really interesting to hear about this history & one of the rock bands performing was very popular because the message behind a lot of their songs called for a reunification because they were all one people despite the distance and history. What? There are people across the world who don’t speak the same language as me who want it’s own people to unite & not think of humans as “the other”? We’re more similar than we think to those across the world. I could only stay a few days & not the whole weekend with these beautiful humans. As I was leaving, they all turned on their motorcycles & revved their engines extremely loud as a send off to me. I cried. It was really hard to leave them. I read today that Oktoberfest in Germany has been cancelled as a precaution due to what is happening right now in the world. I’m sure there will be a lot of glum faces as a result but of course the precaution is for the good of the people. My sister and I visited back in 2015 after a whirlwind trek through Europe. We concluded our journey with one of the biggest celebrations in the world. Parades, beer halls, German eats, and cultural costumes aplenty and it was certainly an amazing time. FIRST TIME using a tripod for pictures when traveling solo! I used to just look around for something to set my phone against or ask other people to take a picture of me. This method usually resulted in blurry or awkward pictures. So I decided 2022 was going to be the year I said “f*ck it” and not care about being labeled an influencer in the wild (lol). On the first day of my trip, I definitely felt overwhelmed with setting up the tripod, maneuvering the camera, and the pressure to take the picture/video before anyone saw me. I think you can clearly tell from this picture that those feelings started to go away 🤣 Although I still felt a bit uncomfortable, I decided to just keep going and have fun with it!
