Couldn’t figure out what to draw as this winter weather has me kinda drained, so I ran this warm up thru some Snapseed filters. It brought out some nice tones. {this is a long one...} Due to the feature that reminds us of old posts, I was reminded of one of the first #traindoodlez I had done after getting my iPad in 2017, a piece featuring model @instagwen_ in a photo by @mikecollettaimages from 2016. It’s a striking image with a chemistry of lighting, texture, composition, and model that really speaks to me. Granted, that it wasn’t a complete effort as I was just getting used to the feel of the iPad glass and Procreate as a tool, but I wanted to give it another try now that I’ve had two years to get more acquainted. I personally like my older piece as I went to a style and direction I wasn’t entirely comfortable with (but I’ve grown to really enjoy), but in the spirit of #inktober I wanted to show how fond I’ve become for the inking brushes in the program. [I don’t save my presets and because each piece I do requires different line strokes, I find I reset whatever custom settings I adjust from piece to piece. So I use the standard basics.] I like how the new piece turned out, but it’s also very clean and I went way too technical in the execution. (Which is really difficult on a train. Thank God for the undo button) If anything, this exercise shows me that I should loosen up a bit more and have more fun with expression rather than trying to mimic what’s already been captured.
