Sonic Frontiers wins Excellence Award at the Japan Game Awards 2023
Sonic Frontiers has been awarded an Excellence Award in the 2023 Japan Game Awards, the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association announced early Thursday.
Director Morio Kishimoto accepted the award on behalf of SEGA during a live ceremony, and shared a few words to Sonic fans and the audience.
We just finished the development of the third update for Sonic Frontiers this morning. Thank you for voting for Sonic Frontiers and choosing us to win this honorable award.
With this award and future awards, we will continue to listen to the voices of our players to keep evolving the third generation of Sonic.
The ceremony, hosted at this year's Tokyo Game Show, awards several high quality games from a variety of genres released in the past year.
Previously, Frontiers won in the Japan Games Awards’ "Future Division" in 2022, which awards non-released or anticipated works.

took a nap and had a dream that they were showing nwos gameplay footage at the tokyo game show and it was like GTA-style gameplay with luke driving layton around in the frog mech. except luke kept steering the frog mech into sidewalks PACKED with steam bison npcs and like completely plowing them over complete with blood and screaming but their screams were being drowned out by layton having a single voice clip of “GOOD HEAVENS MY BOY”
and then akihiro hino was like “sorry we only have this one voice clip for now” so GOOD HEAVENS MY BOY kept repeating and overlapping on itself while luke just kept tearing thru pedestrians sending them flying and making the gameplay footage lag

There's also going to be a physical release of the GG story digest comics (Japanese text version) available at Tokyo Game Show along with a special sticker given to those that play the new Under Night In Birth game at the ASW booth. I'm pretty sure both of them will be very limited releases exclusive to this event, but I'm including the Japanese announcement text anyway. This information is from the Japanese-only ASW fanclub email mailing list.

With the Tokyo Game Show underway, Japanese publications are starting to share new details about the upcoming Sonic Superstars. Here's a look at the Battle mode feature.
Mech parts
Instead of playing as the main Sonic characters in these battles, you'll be able to construct your own Metal Fighter.
Here's a closer look at the Metal Knuckles mech parts, and what looks to be Metal Amy.
This is the mech part selection menu, featuring the Bear Robo-Head. Besides different head shapes, you can choose the part's colour too.
As you progress through the story, more items will be available in the Parts Shop.
Additionally, the medals collected in stages can be used to buy parts for your Metal Fighter.
Modes of play
The battle mode features 4 separate modes of play. These modes are chosen randomly.
Star Collect: Get the most stars to win.
Survival: Survive to the end of the match as cannonballs fall from the sky. The floor will collapse as the match goes on.
Fighting: Attack your opponents with electric attacks. Power them up with items around the stage. Whoever gets the most hits wins.
Race: The first person to reach the goal wins.
Those screenshots give us a closer look at the game's Green Hill and Lagoon City battle stages.
Meanwhile, SEGA of Japan previewed the Sky Temple Battle Stage. It featured Metal Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy.
