TMNT:HME Redesigns (again)

I probably won't ever be satisfied with the way these guys look, but I redesigned the lads :)

Leonardo is arguably my least favorite design even though I loved it when I first looked at it?? IDK

It's also got bits and pieces of info, I ofc know the most about Leo for obvious reasons :) I changed his mask to look kinda like a ponytail cause he wants to be pretty but in a he/him way :) Also there are some other scars/marks but they'll be explained later. He also has a beauty mark now :)

I'll probably post the sketches where I worked through ideas later? Idk

Donnie:

Donnie took the longest for some time??? the head shape was giving me difficulty :/. Anyway, he's got a couple of little bruises because he falls a lot/bruises easily for a reason that'll be discussed later :) also stole Raph's tooth gap and gave it to him completely on accident lmaooooo

Raph:

Raph got a lot of changes cause I didn't like his design at all, this design is much more appealing to the eye tbh. He also has a lazy eye that he is supposed to be wearing corrective glasses for but he refuses to :/ Idk how accurate the heights are I just kinda eyeballed the lineup and hoped for the best - Leonardo is definitely 5'6" it's more just guessing based off of him.

Mikey:

I really like Mikey's design - it's not too far off of his original because I liked that one too, but this one captures the energy I was looking for. I love his color palette so much, it's v nice.

Also he has a few scars from various accidents - Mikey tends to get hurt in the weirdest most ridicukous ways? Like he was hit by a firework twice - yeah.

Also he wears hand me downs, the only thing that he owns that is new are his gloves, kneepads, footwraps and mask.

So those are the newest designs- hopefully the last ones but I'm already looking at Leo like ' you ae not good enough' (lmao funny I'm funny)

Using clip studio paint to try to calculate the height difference and figure out how tall the future turtles.

Assuming Movie!Leo in the movie is as tall as the height chart (5 feet and 5 inches = 165,1 cm -if not a few inches taller from season 1 to 2/movie-) and with JJ Conway's (who worked on the show) as a basis:

They're posed in perspective. So I measure Movie!Leo's height from heel to head (pinhead, lol) and copy-paste the chart with Future Leo from heel-up.

And with Clip Studio paint to make a very rough estimate:

Future Leo's height should be around 6' 10''.

Size may vary however because they're not always on scale even in the show.

Any tips for someone who wants to start drawing the turtle brothers but is daunted by their anatomy? I've stared at original designs and fanart and it's just too intimidating for me to follow through and attempt 😓

Hey hey! Welp, I guess it depends which versions of the boys you want to draw. Though when it all comes down to it, the best way to go about it, is to break them down into basic shapes. Circles, squares/rectangles, triangles, polygons, cylinders- just basic geometric shapes. Building blocks essentially. Get the basic shape down, then work your way up, adding more and more detail.

I'm sure there's tutorials out there about how to draw the turtles. Though I find the best way to figure that stuff out, is to deconstruct them yourself. Kind of like taking something apart to figure out how it works and then putting it together again. ie: figure out the shape of the shell, from all angles. The shape of legs and arms, how they move, bend, flex. etc

Also: REFERENCES. They are your best friend. Different pics from different angles. Some people make ref sheets, you can try googling them up. But, even better, is when you can find a 3d reference. Especially when it comes to the 2012 boys.

And I got you on that, fam. Sketch fab is an amazing place for 3d refs. And I've found ALL FOUR 2012 boys right here in this collection for reference. Yes, that's all the 2012 boys 3d models. 💖💙🧡💜 They should help anyone who needs refs for these turt boys.

My mom's friend just got a new turtle and I was allowed to hold it and oh it's so tiny squishes it in my hands (I did not squish the turtle in my hands I would never actually do that it is a living being)
