If you're part of the Merlin fandom and also part of The Last Kingdom fandom, I have a question…
You know how there's a running joke about "Sir Leon the Long-suffering" because he's had to witness and manage the utter nonsense going on in Camelot with Uther, and then between Arthur and Merlin? Recently I've been wondering... is Aldhelm not the TLK equivalent?????? (I won't get into all the BS Aldhelm has had to endure, IYKYK)
So, I present to the public… Lord Aldhelm, the Long-Suffering. Long May He Reign.

hiii, do you write for aldhelm? if yes, could you write an aldhelm x reader, where after the fight at bebbanburg she helps him or something like this?
+ · 。~ healing hands
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: Aldhelm x female! reader | genre: fluff | warnings: mention of blood, I think that’s all | wc: 1.3k |
synopsis: you couldn’t help but be nervous around Aldhelm.
request: yes
note: omg I can’t explain how much I love Aldhelm, he’s definitely one of my favs, I really hope you enjoy it! ☺️
Thank you @dailytlk for letting me use the lovely gif!
“You're good at this” Aldhelm mumbled as he watched your hands swiftly and carefully cleaned the cut on his shoulder. You smile and reach into your satchel that was by his side, pulling out another cloth to clean his wound.
“Others like to say i have healing hands” You joke with a bright smile, thinking back on the many times you have healed your friends over the years and the way they would dramatically praise you, laughing when you would get all flustered.
You were walking through a hallway of the reclaimed home of your friend Uhtred, holding onto your satchel filled with your healing supplies when you nearly ran into Uhtred. He didn't say much, just pointed in a direction saying that someone needed your help and to be careful not to slip on the wet floors. And that's what brought you to what you're doing now, helping Aldhelm.
“I've heard some say you're a witch,” Aldhelm says with a small smirk as he looks up at you, trying to focus on anything else besides his aching shoulder. He has heard a few things about you over the past few years but there was never a chance where the two of you have had a conversation until now.
“I’m no witch, I just listened well when my mother taught me how to heal” you say with a small laugh, your eyes focused on his wound. It wasn't the first time you have heard yourself being called a witch, there were many rumors surrounding you and you being a witch. You never paid any attention to them though. At the end of the day, you were healing people, and that's all that matters.
“I’m relieved to be in such good hands” Aldhelm smiles up at you, he finds himself getting lost in your eyes. He found the way your eyebrows were furrowed, and your small pout on your face adorable as you really focused. He’s brought out his thoughts from a stinging pain in his shoulder. Aldhelm winces and flinches away from your touch.
“I’m sorry” you say quickly, feeling guilty that you caused him more pain. You were trying to clean his cut very carefully to not make him feel any more pain, but it seems that you used too much pressure. You give him a sorry smile and go back to cleaning his wound, making sure to be more careful.
“It's alright, it's my fault I got hurt, I should have been more careful…more alert” He muttered as he rolled his eyes and clenched his jaw. You could tell that he was very hard on himself.
“Don't say such things” You frown as you set the bloody cloth on the wood table that was behind you. You grab another cloth to clean your hands, before you reach into your satchel for a bandage. You give him a smile before you start to wrap his shoulder.  “Besides we all get hurt one way or another in war, either physically or emotionally.”
“Did your mother teach you that too?” Aldhelm asks with a faint smile, letting out a heavy breath at the feeling of you wrapping his shoulder.
“Finan taught me that actually.”
“You and Finan are close?” Aldhelm questions, even though he already knew the answer. He has seen the two of you together many times, Aldhelm at first even thought the two of you were together until he found out Finan was already married. Were you married? Aldhelm thought. He hoped you weren't. Would it be too forward if i asked?
“He saved me from some raiders who slaughtered my village…we have been close since.”
“I’m sorry that happened to you” Aldhelm frowns as he looks at you, his sorry genuine. Aldhelm internally cursed at himself, feeling bad that you had to think about that again. Way to ruin it Aldhelm.
“Thank you, Lord Aldhelm,” You whispered as you looked away from his shoulder to his green eyes. You usually hated bringing up your past, seeing the pity and the sorry’s people would give you. But strangely it was different from Aldhelm, he was genuine…and his eyes are beautiful.
“Aldhelm is just fine” He stammered out as the two of you made eye contact. Since when did you make him nervous? He thought with a shy smile.
“Well, Aldhelm, your wounds are not severe, you should heal perfectly fine” you tell him with your own shy smile, looking back to his shoulder that was fully wrapped, the few other cuts he had you had cleaned and put some cream on them earlier.
“And the pain?” He winces again as he starts to put back on his tunic. Oh yeah did you forget to mention that he was shirtless this whole time? Yeah, you were trying your hardest not to look the whole time. You failed a few times, but like come on? How could you not have. He’s very attractive.
“Nothing a big cup of ale won't fix” you tell him with a giggle as you turn your back to him and clean off your hands again, dipping a clean cloth into the small bowl of water before scrubbing at your hands.
“Let me guess, Finan taught you that as well,” Aldhelm laughs as he stands up to put on the rest of his armor. You smile at the mention of your friend and turn to face him. It definitely sounds like something Finan would say, but it wasn't this time. “Actually, my mother did”
“She sounds like quite the woman” Aldhelm smiles warmly, he could tell just by the way you spoke of her, that you cared deeply for her. God, you're really giving me more reasons to like you, Aldhelm thinks, his smile turning into a grin.
“She was” You nodded with a sad smile as you thought back on your mother. Aldhelm notices the sad smile on your face and steps closer to you, and the words are spilling out of his mouth before he realizes “Will you join me?”
“Join you?” You look at him in confusion as you look up at him, your hands halting from putting your things in your satchel. Aldhelm swallows his nerves and gives you a sweet smile “For a big cup of ale…i have a feeling we both could use it.”
“I would love to, we should get to it before Finan and Sihtric drink it all and leave us with none” You agree with a smile, putting the strap of your satchel on your shoulder. Aldhelm was smart, handsome and sweet. It would be ridiculous to say no to such an offer. You were internally freaking out that he had asked you to join him.
“You sound as if you speak from experience” Aldhelm was so relieved that you agreed. He didn't know how you captivated him in the little time the two of you had talked. All he knew is that he wanted to know more about you.
“It's a long story” you laugh quietly as the two of you walk out of the small room you were in and down the hallway that leads to the courtyard where everyone should be, most likely all of them drinking. As you walked you made sure not to step in any puddles and made sure not to slip. How embarrassing it would be if I fell in front of him, you nervously thought. Why was he making me so nervous?
“Well, I would love to hear it” Aldhelm smiles, holding out his arm for you to hold like a true gentleman. He had noticed that you seemed to be nervous walking on the wet floors. You smile thankfully and hold onto his arm…his very muscular arm. You internally shout at yourself for feeling so flustered by just touching his muscular arm.
Aldhelm just made you so nervous…in a good way of course. You just didn’t understand how he could affect you this much when the two of you barely knew each other. I want to know more about him.
“Well then we definitely will need a big cup of ale.”

note: okay so when I first go this req, I had finished the dialogue in like 2 hours…that never happens for me. And I really struggled writing all the details, the descriptions. So I apologize if they seem as if they lack chemistry. This is definitely not my best work, but I still hope you guys enjoy it!
Please comment and tell me what you think about it, I would love to read all your thoughts!
Comments like and reblogs are very much appreciated!

My Lady
Pairing Aldhelm x Fem!Reader
Summary You discover Aldhelm in your chambers, on the ground and covered in blood
Warnings mention of blood/ injury
A/N yes this is a very much what if you were Aethelflaed and reciprocated his feelings but how could I not, someone needs to love this man (I’ll do it myself if I have to) also it’s not the exact scene because I can’t remember the entire thing so it’s my own twist
The night was coming in quickly and with it a cool breeze. You didn’t mind it much though you knew it was time to retire. The events of the day had been weighing on you and all you desired was to rest. That was not what fate had planned.
The corridors near your chambers were surprisingly empty for a change, though you barely noticed it. What bothered you more was that the door to your room was slightly open. As quietly as you could you approached, half expecting to hear someone rustling around trying to find something.
That wasn’t the case. In fact it was unusually silent.
You crept forward, gently placing a hand on the wood before giving it a push. It moved with little effort but the sight made you sucked in a sharp breath.
“Lord Aldhelm!” You gasped at the sight of him. The lord was sat on your floor, legs splayed out in front of him. He was clutching his stomach where blood was looking out of him, drenching his hand. Aldhelm looked exhausted, sweat covering him almost entirely.
“My lady, forgive me.” He managed, though you knew it was a lot of effort to speak. “I did not know where else to go.”
“I must get someone to help.” Unsure of what to do, you turned to leave. Someone else would be better to help him. Why would he come to you? Aldhelm had always trusted you but you were no healer.
“You cannot!” He shouted but it was soon followed but a grunt of pain. The very noise caused you to stop in your tracks, spinning to look at him once again. He struggled to meet your eye as he spoke again “I would not ask for your help if I did not need it.”
That seemed to settled it. You shut the door behind you, though you knew no one was out there. It was just you and him. You would do whatever you could to help him, to save him.
“Let me see it.” You spoke softly as you crouched down beside him. Aldhelm seemed resistant at first, barely moving as though he was worried for you to see or even get a speck of blood on your dress. But you were careful, peeling back the fabric of his tunic to have a closer look. It was a deep wound but the bleeding was starting to slow. “Come.”
You knew he needed to be moved, neither of you could stay on the cold ground and work on the wound. You managed to help him to his feet and though he was a little unsteady, he soon managed to stagger over to a small seat.
There was a pause and an awkward silence before you wordlessly pulled his tunic over his head. The motion caused him to wince in pain but you were being as gentle as you could. Your eyes wandered over his bare chest, the muscles before resting back on the wound.
It was as though a fire had been lit in you, you busied yourself and got to work quickly, finding cloths and a small bowl of water to clean the wound. Once it was clean you focused on making sure the bleeding had stopped.
“I hope you forgive for me this.” His voice was low but his eyes never left your face. Aldhelm watched as you worked on the wound, he could feel the warmth of your touch seeping into him as if your touch alone was healing him. Perhaps it was.
“There is nothing to forgive, my lord.” You replied, you attention was solely on the wound, the blood. You had barely even registered that he had been watching you so carefully, the way his eyes traced your face as though he was painting it eternally in his mind.
“I dare say you wished to spend your evening differently.” He bit back a moan as you started to wrap the wound. You tried to be gentle, oh heavens you tried to be, yet every time he winced you felt a part of yourself break. You never wanted to see your Aldhelm like this.
“Nothing is better than spending time with those you care for.” Still you did not look at him, your eyes trained on the wound in front of you. “I would rather see you well more than anything.”
“Thank you.” It was sincere and breathy and it sent a flutter through your stomach. He swallowed hard finally looking at the wound. You had wrapped it well and it was looking far better but still the worry danced one his eyes. “I fear for the worst, I have lost too much blood.”
“A gut wound is treatable, even after blood loss.” You spoke sharply as you finished your work. The wound still looked angry but much better than it had, the bleeding had slowed considerably and he was fairing much better. You stood, towering over him, a hand gently placed on his shoulder. That’s when you finally met his eyes. “Do not loose hope.”
“With you here, I could never.” His own hand found yours. His skin was clammy though you did not mind. The touch alone warmed you. “My lady, if I am to pass from this.”
“My lord, don’t.” You interrupted him not wanting to hear it. Seeing him on your floors covered in his own blood was painful enough without the thought of losing him entirely.
“Please.” He begged, his eyes searching yours. He forced himself to stand, barely caring for the wound that ailed him. Your hand stayed in his, he even gave it a little squeeze before he said anymore. “You have my heart.” His voice was steady and certain and his eyes didn’t betray him. He meant it.
“Aldhelm.” You whisper half taken back by the confession.
“I know that I might not have yours and I shall carry that to my grave but I could not die without telling you.” Before you could deny him the words were rolling off his tongue as if he’d expected you to reject him now or even later. But you could not.
Aldhelm was not the man many thought him to be. He was kind and gentle and he had always had your heart. There were many occasions when you thought perhaps he had not cared for you, yet here he was confessing everything.
Your free hand trailed up to his has jaw, cupping his face so gently you worried you would break him with too much pressure.
“Then you shall live knowing you have mine in return.” Your voice was like a song to his ears, uttering the words he had longed to hear. He watched your parted lips as if waiting for permission.
“May I?” He asked, cocking his head slightly.
“You may.” You whispered. Aldhelm was gentle as he pressed his lips against yours but soon it became desperate, like he needed you as much as the air he breathed. You needed him just as much. You sunk into him completely, kissing him back with hunger as his hands held your waist in place.
You were his lady, now and forever.

Aldhelm's Brooch
Handmade by me, from Super Sculpey polymer clay, and painted with acrylic paints to resemble antique bronze. It measures 3 inches (10cm) in diameter. I sculpted onto a watchglass so I could get a curvature. The watchglass was removed after baking. It took me approximately 25 hours from start to finish.

A lot of fans talk about wanting a replica of Uhtred's sword. However, I wanted something more personal and meaningful to me. I had been planning to make this brooch for over a year now, and finally had the time and motivation to do so.
Progress photos and reference screenshots below the Keep Reading.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Progress photos. I rolled out the clay and molded it onto a watchglass. Then I printed out my sketch and used a pin to pinpoint the locations of the main features (the little spheres). Afterwards, it was just a lot of fiddly sculpting work to create the details. This was 100% done by hand; I did not use any molds or pre-created forms for this.

Painted version in indoor lighting.

Screencaps of the brooch. And you can see what I had to work with here, lol. Weird fact: his brooch changed color over the seasons! It was shiny gold colored in season 3, silver in season 4, and antique bronze in season 5. Don't know why it changed so much. Aldhelm's brooch is very unique and particular to him. He had a standard large bronze Mercian boar brooch in season 2, just like Aethelred, but for some reason that was changed to this one in season 3. It seemed to coincide with the change in his apparent personality, so I wonder if it was intentional or not?
