A male Bornean green pit viper (Tropidolaemus subannulatus) snuggles on the much larger female. Their colors match the verdant background, a common technique in the wild.

Can you post your top 5 sex dymorphisms in birds? Some are really funny, like I remember there is a bird whose females are dull green but males are German flag hghhfhjn
Well, to me, some of the most striking sexual dimorphism occurs amongst the birds of paradise, family Paradiseaidae, order Passeriformes, of New Guinea...

Magnificent Bird-of-Paradise (Diphyllodes magnificus)

There's also one of my favorite birds...

Painted Bunting (Passerina ciris), female and male, family Cardinalidae, order Passeriformes, LA, USA

I also love the dimorphism of birds where the female is actually more colorful...

I think the coolest bird is Vogelkop unless they made an official name for this bird of paradise. Because this bird is very pretty when trying to dance for a potential mate and the videos are kind of both wild and funny to watch. Now I don't know if the National Geographic or Discovery Channel has covered this bird yet on TV because we don't have cable anymore but I loved watching National Geographic and Discovery Channel growing up.
The show I remember watching in full on one of those channels was "Meerkat Manner" and I think to this day my parents think it's kind of funny that I would get excited to watch that every night around 8 or 9 at night. The same can be said for Bear Grills too because his adventures were fun to watch and sometimes or most of the times were a learning experience in case you were in the wild so I love that.

Animal of the Day!
Northern Pinocchio Frog (Litoria pinocchio)
Tumblr media
Conservation Status-  Data deficient (Data inadequate to determine a threat category)
Habitat- Indonesia
Size (Weight/Length)- 2.5 mm
Diet- Insects
Cool Facts- Despite being discovered in 2008, the northern Pinocchio frog was not scientifically classified until 2019. Being so small and so new to the scientific community, very little is known about these frogs. Their most unique feature is their elongated nose. This nose can inflate, thought to increase the frog’s vocalization during the mating season. They have been seen eating small insects but it is unknown if they eat anything other than insects. The northern Pinocchio frog is believed to be completely arboreal, making studying them an even greater challenge.
Rating- 11/10 (Doesn’t even have to tell a lie for that schnoz.)

Good morning. 🫘☕☕
9 November 2023
Tumblr media
The coffee this morning is smooth, just right.
I thought that we had too many coffee cups taking space in our kitchen cabinets, so I packed some up and took them to our little house in Georgia last year. No worries, my wife bought more. :-)
I don't know what is up with the birds, there haven't been many around lately. I see cardinals before the sun comes up and just before it goes down again. Well, the pigeon battalion showed up this morning, in strength. They flew over just as I stepped out my back door, landed on my roof, then took off again with thirty or so pairs of wings rattling as they dove low to the west and rose again as they turned north.
“I personally find the diversity and beauty of birds to be endlessly stimulating and fascinating.” - Tim Laman, Bird Planet: A Photographic Journey
