all the recent talk about not voting has me a bit worried, for lack of a better word.

on one hand, yes so much yes, stop throwing all your time and energy in the insatiable maw of electoral politics, 5/5, no notes.

but on the other hand, where does that time and energy go then? despite lots of talk about mutual aid it doesn't seem to progress much beyond the abstract (at least in the various leftist groups/communities/etc. in my neck of the woods). it's held up as an ideal and great big important thing, but when there's shit that needs doing, it's *crickets*.

maybe it's because so much mutual aid is care work and thus, and i very much disagree with even though i care not for the label, not real activism i guess? like, a while ago a disabled comrade had ran into housing issues because of their illness, so we rustled up some folks to help clean and unfuck their home. which, yet again, were the same (also disabled) people that always show for those things.

coming of four years and counting of pandemic, that's been a consistent pattern. at a time where mutual aid was so needed, such a vacuum left by a state that didn't and/or wanted to do shit, it still fell on the shoulders of disabled people to do all the actual work while the rest just talked about abstract shit. or, to name another thing, diy hrt initiative where it's just a bunch of poor ass trans people scrounging up money to pay for supplies for trans people who have fuck all access, while the rest debates in the abstract about a more better system or whether it's even something they need to concern themselves about.

and like, yes, not pissing away your energy pleading with assholes who don't give a fuck about you is good, but it should only be the start. it sometimes feels like the big plan is: 1) not vote, 2) ???, 3) glorious anarchism/communism/mutual-aidism. i'm not arguing that they need to have it all worked out, but with so much shit that needs doing in the here and now i get a little worried. because that's going to take real work, not talk, and they're not putting in any of it.

I mean, most people won't do (what gets viewed as) "real activism" either. They don't go to protests, smash windows, call jails to check on the status of incarcerated people, cut supply lines, or anything else. And they don't vote either.

We live in a highly individualistic, atomized society filled with people who have been conditioned into an abiding self-interested apathy, and everyone is overworked and broke as shit and juggling a bunch of disabilities while not having any experience with building genuine community and lacking most of the infrastructural and social tools to do so. The number of people who are avowed leftists is vanishingly small, and among them the people who actually walk the talk or have the education and community ties to even be able to is even smaller. Not disagreeing with your read of the situations you're dealing with here, just putting them within the broader context of many very similar problems that I see touch every single aspect of organizing today. even like the most tepid liberal get out the vote kind of organizing is plagued by this, and of course that is by design.

What gives me hope in the present moment is just how many people are completely fucking done with the prevailing system, and how many are refusing to play along with its rules. A lot of the people who aren't voting are not leftists. At least not yet. Just like many of the people who are quiet quitting and half-assing it at work or just vibing on unemployment for as long as they can are not communists. But they do know that the system is bunk and is failing them, and they are refusing to be compliant within it any longer. I believe that a lot of people's better natures do get inspired during a moment of collapse. I also think there is a profound rot at the heart of settler-colonial states that fills them with people who do not recognize themselves as having any responsibility to others. That's all the more reason for such an empire to fall.

I think you're right to worry for the future, though I don't think the reason to be worried is as simple as people not people caring about disabled folks, or any other group. I always wonder who the mythical abled people are who are abnegating their duty in such an understanding of the world. I sure haven't met any of them. I only meet people who are also disabled and don't realize it.

Did my rewatch with a friend, some observations either from me or both of us:

--Gotouge was deep in the "bean" period at this point in the manga, drawing especially Tanjiro's face in lumpy simple shapes on a regular basis. We suspect that in this season so far, Tanjiro's face has spent most of its screen time in silly mode as opposed to normal mode.

--Before we watched, I had her guess what she thought the vibe might be for the ending theme. "I don't know, foreshadowing all their deaths or something?" GIRL, HOW DARE YOU GUESS THAT RIGHT. Also, I'm so glad the full version of "Tokoshie" is already out because it's going to be super difficult but I can't wait to give it a shot at karaoke.

--We chatted afterward about Ufotable's choices. I feel like they've upped their show-offy game in this season (thicker lines, extended scenes, varied BGM and careful sound design, slow and deliberate filler, and lighting, lighting, lighting, lighting!), which might be somewhat to compensate for the slower story pace. It's simply reality that a lot of the hype for KnY has slowed (the Mugen Ressha era levels were unsustainable, of course, that was a phenomenon), and I know many people have gotten tired of it. But frankly, those people are not Ufotable's audience now; we the captives who love spending time with these characters are the target audience, and when things pick up again, those who took a break will come back and binge these seasons. I'm sad to see some hype die away, but I have no worries about the hype train totally dying down.

--And the love and care thrown into this production shows that they have every intention of giving the final arcs the care they'll require <3

--but also AOI!!! I loved the subtle restraint of that filler. It wasn't overdone, and it's so rare to see Tanjiro and Aoi have a moment together, and to see both how Aoi has relaxed in his presence and how she remains formal. That irony and layered way of Tanjiro having no idea how he's helped her, and Aoi talking about herself in wanting to be left alone, but still finding a way to show that she cares about this person Tanjiro is talking about even though she has no idea who it is? Wonderfuuuullllll

--How softly Shinobu speaks to Kanao!!!!! The way Shinobu sits in shadow but Kanao is within reach of the sunlight!!!! (They put Kanao's hair on the same side as usual instead of matching the way the manga did this scene!)

--The glimpse in Tamayo's memories of Yoriichi encountering Muzan, the sound of his earrings tied with the sound of Tanjiro's earrings!!

--The same sort of layering in the ending theme!!

--YUSHIRO SCREAMING DESCENT

--Giyuu's face being cut out of view when he says he's not the Water Pillar

--EVERY BIT OF GIYUU AND TANJIRO INTERACTION, I'm sure Hanae Natsuki had so much fun being thoroughly obnoxious

--EVERY BIT OF GIYUU AND SABITO INTERACTION

--There is no mistaking Murata and I love that

--LITTLE GIYUU'S EEEEEEYYYYYYYYEEEEESSSS

--The height difference between Tanjiro and Giyuu in the Taisho Secrets

--Tanjiro was the one being overbearing and clingy in the episode and now in the Taisho Secrets we've got Giyuu thoroughly in "Kamado Tanjiro is my friend" mode, like "...Come eat more soba with me. Oh. Then. Come eat shake daikon with me. Are you coming? You're coming! Are you done yet? I'm staring at you from the side of the screen. I'm waiting. Come on. Hang out with me."

--I was gonna say the Taisho Secrets were obvious this time, but my friend (who has read the manga and just watched this episode with me) said, "oh, I didn't know that side was from his sister!" So... alright, good call, then, Ufotable.

--Ok but as Tanjiro is first showering Giyuu with kindness (and indeed, sitting so much in Giyuu's personal space), I was thinking about Giyuu's smile in the Taisho Secrets (shake daikon, yay~), and my friend said, "You know what this is making me think of? That panel at the end of the manga when..." --when he's smiling, I thought-- "...he thinks Tanjiro is dead." NO STOP WHY DID YOU DO THAT ME

--Love that little addition of Tanjiro cheerfully pointing out how quiet it's been, and "no! No demons here!" TANJIRO, YOU SHOULD BE VERY, VERY WORRIED ABOUT WHAT THIS MEANS

--"Now want about Tomioka-san" "What's Kocho doing?" UFOTABLE STOP THE DOOMED GIYUSHINO HURTS

--WHAT A CLIP TO END ON AND PLUNGE US INTO THAT ENDING THEME

Since I put together a rather massive thread about the probable S3 final fuckeries on the dead-parrot site, I figure I'll bring it over here as well :) This is bearing in mind that the show loved using history when it was useful or funny.

Blackbeard's death was in a battle and afterwards, his head was cut off and hung from the bowsprit of the ship, then later as a warning by a harbour. Urban legend said that his headless body swam around the ship, trying to find the head. Stede, meanwhile, was executed by hanging after being captured and tried in Charles Town.

My theory is a giant faking-their-deaths fuckery and this is the collection of extensive foreshadowing in sequential order.

1x01 - He's holding his own head! That's terrifying!

The Swede's flag with a skeleton holding his own head. Given Ed's flair for the dramatic and the urban legend that BB's body swam, headless, around the ship, this feels like a very him thing to do. (also ties in with Blackbeard's flag with just the skeleton in S1)

1x01 - Stede's first fuckery

Stede using mannequins as a diversion so they can escape from the British Navy and the British Navy fall for it. Also, significantly, one of the fake heads falls off.

1x03 - Stede hanged

I facepalmed so hard when I realised that we had already seen Stede get hanged and survive it. Also, the fact that the person who intended to kill him by hanging is the one who dies first? INCHRESTING.

1x04 - "People just see the flag - I don't even have to be on the boat. I'm a ghost"

And he won't be on the boat in the end :D (@wastingyourgum reminded me of this one :D)

1x04 - "He's wearing Blackbeard's clothes. He's on Blackbeard's ship".

Combining this with Stede's fake-heads-to-escape idea, Blackbeard's official 'death' is tied up with a bow :D They just need to find a suitable person to sub in *coughHornigoldcough*

1x06 - "Over here, child!"

HOOBOY this entire episode is basically emphatically pointing at Ed's skill in the art of misdirection. Ed is an expert at fooling people into seeing what he wants them to see. The Master of the Theatre of Fear.

1x06 - The crew fuckery

Stede, the Swede and Black Pete literally holding heads that aren't theirs And once again the allusion to swapping faces/places. "Are those supposed to be the same guy?" "But with very different hairstyles, ja?"

1x06 - "I'm supposed to burn your face off and take your identity"

Stede getting another layer of "how to get away with dying/disappearing" added to his arsenal of knowledge.

1x08 - The Unicorn's head

Oh look. A mythical creature's head is removed by the English, when Ed has been compared to a demon, devil, vampire and kraken. I wonder what that could be foreshadowing 🙃

1x09 - "You've kept the clippings so we can make fake heads and escape"

When in doubt, Stede turns to arts and crafts.

1x10 - "Now that's a fuckery"

Stede has already faked his own death not once, not twice, but three times in ten minutes. Now that's overkill 😂He's done it before, he'll do it again! In Stede's town, wearing Stede's clothes.

2x01 - "He can't possibly look like this"

The S1 propaganda pics are all full/half body, but now, he's reduced down to a head with very snaky looking hair. "He can't possibly look like that" (and this ties into something from 2x04 as well)

In related things, there is one historic piece of art referring to Blackbeard like this, as a disembodied head and I feel like there's a bit of a resemblance going on.

2x02 - "There's some beheadings on here"

Okay, yes, this one is a stretch, but head removal, people. We have more head removal :D

2x03 - "I'm not me, I'm you"

Yes, I know, in the context of the Gravy Basket, but there would be some poetrical vibes if Hornigold's body was the one left in Ed's place so Ed can live a long and happy life. (And yes, fully convinced he was an S3 villain)

2x03 - "I knew they killed him"

Will fully admit I yelped a bit when I saw this scene in higher res than a stream because with the drape of cloth over his head matching the colour of the surroundings, it's gives the illusion of a headless body.

2x04 - "He can't hear you. He's got no head"

Again, the symbolism of the mythical creature without a head. Especially when we see Izzy yelling at it as if its Blackbeard, his own personal figurehead.

2x04 - "Pulls his entire fucking face off. Turns out this one had stolen the face off some Brit and come to my rescue"

Of all the specialist skills for someone in Ed's old crew to have, disguising themselves with someone else's face? :D (That's romance ;))

2x04 - The Head of Medusa

Buttons' transmogrification bowl is under a painting of The head of Medusa (Caravaggio). In the story of Perseus, he used Medusa's severed head to defeat a terrible sea monster (hello, kraken :D) and a King.

And I mentioned earlier Ed's wanted poster had a connection to this episode and look at these images side by side:

“You know the rules” one guard warns, only for Elias to laugh with a huff through his nose. “Oh don't flatter yourself thinking you can stop me. Now open the door”. The guard sneers, hesitating and taking his hand away from the handle to point his finger at him. “Don’t get cocky, this can quickly turn into me tossing you back to the doctor and his associate”.

Elias just sighs. Stupid brutes never know when to shut up. In a blink, Elias just jingles the keys that were previously on the guards belt, one hand uncuffed with a smile, making the man shut his loud mouth. “Don't forget dear guard of mine, I'm a threat for a reason. Now hurry! I only have an hour this time around!”.

The guard freezes, stuttering for a bit before snatching his keys back and unlocking the other cuff. “Smart ass” he grumbles, before shooing Elias into the other room, standing on guard just outside.

Elias was elated to see you, rushing to wrap you in his arms with such a speed the guard didn’t have time to react. “My love! Oh my love my love my love! I can’t believe you’re finally here! Oh I missed you so so much!” he practically squeals, his fingers clutching your hair as he inhales right in the crook of your neck and shoulder. “I’ve missed this scent. Missed you. They treat me so so badly here! They-”

You gently push him away, not really believing that he was “oh so abused” in this place. By the looks of it, he gives everyone sleep paralysis just for the thrill of it. But that strange doctor who contacted you promised this place would at least help Elias, so maybe they can calm down those tendencies. They asked how you met and why he’s so obsessed, and honestly you only really know him because you helped him out from time to time when leaving work or seeing him being picked on.

Once you said you’d be there for him no matter what, things took a turn. You blinked and every bully who had previously been in front of you two, leaving the fight, was stabbed. Not even mortally, Elias just stabbed them to make them feel pain. He wanted to leave his mark.

“Elias…I-I’m happy you’re eager to see me, but you might need to take a seat and obey the rules. They might not let us hang out anymore” you pacify, helping the man sit down. Elias just shoots the guard a glare, but decides to obey for now. These people have helped him see that if he can gain their trust, work a bit with them, he can have you all to himself. He’ll have his own sector in this place, and eventually, to keep him calm and sated and work for them, you’ll be in that sector with him, nice and tied up and taken care of.

Oh to have you all splayed out and ready for him. His fingers could map every inch of your skin, play with your hair, kiss your neck…maybe your shoulder…oh down your chest- No. no he needed to stop those thoughts. He can't exactly go back and take care of himself if he gets too excited, though he’d love to bend you over and make a show for the guard. The only thing stopping him is the hate he has for anyone seeing you naked at all.

The guard taps his watch, and you nod, scooting closer to the table provided in the room. “So, tell me what's happening Elias. I miss our little daily walks” you say with a smile. Elias sighs happily, laying his head in his hand as he stares at your beautiful eyes. “Ah, in time. Tell me all about your day”. He stared at you like a lover would, which set you off a bit, but you decided this place might help him see that soon, so you let it slide.

The time is ticking by, Elias needs a break from everything, whats the harm in letting him relax and have some fun with a friend for a bit?

SUNNY UPDATE DESIGN BECAUSE @pactw HAD A WONDERFUL IDEA

I don’t know too much about “low class” inner city fashion- having grown up in the middle class suburbs but the idea of corner store tiara and chunky, bedazzled everything reminds me soooo much of like- early 2000s kids fashion- specifically JUSTICE.

Like if you were a girlie growing up in 2000-2010s, you wanted Justice.

Having watched more of Sunny- idk I totally see her in that sort of vibe? Like the girl who wants EVERYTHING on her to show she’s a princess, but like, through a very childish lens (obviously)

So she’d have a SHIT ton of necklaces and especially bracelets on- think of those kids who wore like 100 Loom and SILLY BAND (!!!) bracelets or even how people’s arms looked during the Eras Tour except some of hers would be tacky silvery plastic and obnoxiously rhinestoned pink.

She’ll still keep the dress/poofy undershirt combo but I’d like to think it’s a simple sundress that she tied a scarf she liked and thought looked fancy around the waist.

And their shoes are just their favorite rain boots cause idk- I think they’d be like that. (Ok lore wise- I guess there a safer option to wear around the factory then any fancy shoes- but still. The rain shoes fit the vibe)

I also feel like since they wear so many bracelets- making friendships bracelets would be their ThingTM (Do y’all fellow 2000 kids remember how popular making bracelets were??? That and duck tape wallets…) so they would go around making bracelets for everyone. (And Tubbo would sob for hours after getting his)

Overall, I see how much more of a little gremlin kid she is. She’s smol and she’s opinionated and she’s not afraid to hand you money if she thinks you’re too poor to be around her and I love her. Just reminds me of the concept of my childhood- if that even makes sense.

Shameless Shouta Scarf Smut Saturday

One month. The representative of the HPSC was on TV explaining that it had been one month since the vigilante Eraserhead had devastated the nation and attempted to undermine the harmony of society by abducting you, [Name], the popular and promising hope of the people and probable future No. 1 Hero.

"Hmmm," said Shouta, who was reclining on the couch behind you, hair tied up, wearing only some sweatpants slung rather low on his hips. "How wicked of me to do such a thing."

You giggled.

In reality, he had saved your life from a bunch of rather low-level villains who should have been easy work for the Hero Commission's new poster child.

But, as he had taken great pains to point out to you back then, it wasn't easy work for you because you didn't know what you were doing. In response, you had hurled at him all the nasty words the HPSC had taught you--bitter man, mediocrity, couldn't even keep a position teaching little kids, reduced to cheap vigilante work.

That had been when he made you the offer. "Show me you have the skills to escape from a 'bitter, mediocre vigilante' like me," he had said, "and I'll let you go and tell all your little friends in the press just how silly you made me look."

It turned out the only mediocre hero in his little hideaway was you. And boy, did Shouta love reminding you of it every single time he bound or tripped you with that goddamned scarf of his:

"Shouldn't you be able to escape, since you're the Future No. 1 Hero, sweetie?"

"Oh angel, what would all your fans say if they saw this?"

At first, you hated the derisive pet names and you hated how he would pick you up, pressing the scratchy fibers of the binding cloth into you, as though you were little more than a bundle to bring back into the house. And you could tell that he hated your lack of awareness and was exasperated at how you just expected everything to work out somehow.

But, slowly, things had started to change. You had become addicted to the white-hot lust that was triggered every single time those binding cloths wrapped around you, bringing you to the ground so that Shouta could loom over you, letting you take in his toned body before hoisting you over his shoulder and taking you back to your "captivity."

As for him, it was little things--your conversations now being punctuated with lots of shared dry humor, him suddenly developing a penchant for regular shirtlessness and wearing his hair the way you liked, the fact that he bough you small gifts and new clothes (skimpy to boot), his gestures like taking the time to make you nice tea--that spoke loudly indeed.

That's why your "escape" attempts had become increasingly laughable and now amounted to little more than "chase me, Shouta, and bind me and throw me over your shoulder and 'accidentally' touch me wherever you want while sternly lecturing me," and why his once derisive pet names of angel and sweetheart were now delivered in such a way that made your thighs slick and your brain fogged.

Although you clearly wanted to fuck one another to oblivion, the only accurate thing the HPSC had told you about Eraserhead was that he was desperate to be Not Like Other Heroes. Thus, there was a part of him that was angry with himself for falling under the spell of the shatteringly beautiful favorite of the loathsome Commission, just like so many other fools, and so, unfortunately for you both, he was fighting himself.

Fortunately, you knew how to read people and give them what they wanted without them even realizing what you were doing. It was the silver lining of your dysfunctional youth, what had allowed you to bewitch the HPSC and the public, and would soon--very soon if you had your way--allow you to complete the bewitchment of Shouta Aizawa himself.

You hadn't realized that this was the one-month anniversary of your disappearance--that was a lucky stroke. It would surely make him think about how awful you had been back then, which would only heighten how sweet you had become for him now. You had even chose to wear his most salacious gift to date, a deep purple tank and boy-short set. He hadn't been able to take his eyes off you, and the way he fondled the binding cloth he kept next to him signaled that he was very ready to chase you.

Since you were, after all, about giving people what they wanted, when his phone surprised you both by ringing, you bolted. You had already decided to put in a bit more effort this time, to really make him work for it and get his blood up. You weren't entirely hopeless--Shouta himself had said all you needed was actual proper teaching--and you did last a good ten minutes longer than usual before one of his deceptions worked and you felt the capture weapon encircle you from the ankles up.

You loved it. It was such a high when the binding cloth wrapped around you, gently squeezing your body, the pinch of the fibers stoking your desire. You made a good show of struggling, especially when Shouta finally walked up to where you lay and stood over your body, straddling you as you writhed.

He shook his head and tutted. "Captured again, angel. What a shame." He plucked you off the ground as though you were weightless, and put you over his shoulder.

You squirmed more than usual, trying to kick up, which had the unintended-but-not-really effect of pressing your breasts into his back. You wanted to claw down the expanse of his back so badly; you had vowed to yourself that this would be one of the first things you did once he finally, finally fucked you. With every kick and wriggle, you also tried to grind yourself into his shoulder. Shouta was no fool and knew what you were doing; he was responding to your wantonness with the occasional spank of your ass and stern commands to stop being so ridiculous.

You knew your scheme had been successful when, instead of taking you inside, he slid you off his shoulder and practically threw you against the exterior wall of the house. "You need to be taken care of," he growled low in your ear. You gently bucked your hips toward him as much as your bindings allowed and whimpered. As he responded with a firm and powerful thrust that made you cry out a little, and not just because you could feel him hardening, he continued. "Those people took advantage of you, threw you out there without any real training, and almost got you killed."

He took his hands off of you, balled them up into fists, and pressed them into the wall above your head. His breathing was heavy and his eyes were as desperate as you had ever seen them. He was so close to giving himself over to what he--and you--truly wanted, but something, whether stubbornness, shame, or some jumble of the two, was still stopping him. You could take it no longer; it was time to give him a little push.

You looked up at him, batted your pretty eyes, and then looked down like a good, shy girl would. "I know, Shouta," you said in your softest, sweetest voice. "I need someone to take care of me." You paused, darted your eyes up and down quickly, and hoped you were as blushing and docile as his heart's deepest desire. "I...I need you to take care of me, please."

His breath hitched. You were almost there. So close you could nearly taste him. "I will be so good for you, Shouta. Just for you, your own good girl, who is so grateful to you for protecting her."

It was at this moment that you both became aware that, because of the way your clothes had gotten caught up in the capture weapon, one of your shoulder straps was slipping. You tried to shimmy your shoulder a little bit. You didn't know if it helped, or if the universe and gravity were just on your side, but it tumbled off, leaving what you knew was a bare, soft, inviting expanse all for him.

That broke the dam. Shouta closed around you so tightly that, even if you hadn't been restrained, it would have been impossible to move. Little sparks moved through your body as first his hair and then his lips brushed against your bare shoulder.

"You're mine now," he said in a hot, clipped whisper between pressing kisses on your shoulder and neck. You couldn't stop your entire body from shuddering in pleasure at having won, and your head fell heavy into his shoulder. You pulled at the binding cloth and whined, hoping that he would release your arms and let you embrace him.

"Not yet," he whispered into your ear. "I still want to play. Don't you want to play...kitten?"

This time, instead of just shuddering from pleasure, you convulsed, and your legs gave way. Shouta scooped you up bridal-style, and your limp body melded into his own. He gently moved the hair away from your eyes as he looked at you in triumph and murmured, "Good girl" into your forehead as he placed a gentle kiss.

You gave him your softest smile as you nestled into the muscles of his chest, more than content to let him think he was the one who won today.

Since you’re one of the most prolific content creators for Lucemond, and you always answer your asks so eloquently, I was wondering if you could share some insight. When Aemond and Lucerys were first introduced and people latched onto them as a ship, it was easy to see why this pair seemed fated. Mirror images, Shakespearean tragedy vibes, second son syndrome, etc. it’s always been easy to see in both canon universe and the fandom why Aemond is so tied to Luke. He’s obsessed with him for obvious reasons (eye!) and jealous of Luke’s status so it’s easy for fans to make the jump from hatred to obsession to lust to love (be it toxic or wholesome in their headcanons). But the more I think on it, what do you think would draw Luke to feel the same in any regard to Aemond? Aemond is both pretty pathetic in the book and in the show. Authors and artists have their own takes on the two falling for each other mutually because the nature of fanfic and headcanons allow for it. But lowkey I can’t really see Lucerys actually becoming interested in Aemond while vice versa it’s SO easy to see Aemond falling for Luke. Could you give your own insight on why you think either show Luke or book Luke would become interested in Aemond in any sexual/romantic capacity? Asking as someone who is trying to find the logic in this pairing because they trying to take a stab at writing for them. It’s so easy for me to conceptualize reasons why Aemond is obsessed/in love with Luke, but I’m struggling with canon reasons why Luke would be interested in Aemond. Luke has everything Aemond does not making him a giant fixture in Aemond’s desire for glory—while on the other hand Aemond is just some dude who Luke stole as eye from and then never talked to for a decade (at best he’s a rival?). I know this is also difficult to answer because the characterization of book Luke and show luke are so different so seeing the necessary requirements of him falling for Aemond are vastly different too. Thoughts? Basically me asking you to explain to me how/why Lucemond works so well despite my own difficulty in seeing Luke’s interest in Aemond. Thank you!

hmmm i’m trying the best way to articulate this cuz you ask a good question and i wanna give an answer that isn’t just “targaryens horny for each other”

i don’t think luke would be attracted/want aemond for anything he could “give him”. like you said, aemond doesn’t have much to offer beyond his literal self. i think lucemond works specifically because of their unique dynamic which cannot be applied to their other ships. luke, as a person/character, is mostly characterized by his innocent bravery, vulnerability, and insecurity — which aemond is directly linked to a lot of those feelings in luke. personally, lucemond (in writings) only works when there is proper build up to it (so no real insta-love).

to me, luke’s attraction to aemond is an evolution of his fear and dislike of him. given luke’s upbringing and the relationships he’s had as an example, i envision him as being weirdly receptive to,,, non-traditional courtship and behavior. i don’t think he’d go out of his way to initially seek aemond out (i’m a proponent of aemond is down bad to an atrocious degree, as evidenced by his canon obsessive tendencies) but when it’s initiated, he kinda likes it. luke is much more emotionally driven. i don’t think his attraction to aemond would be for rational or even reasons that can be entirely understood and i think that’s the beauty of the ship.

but again it comes down to how you write to that point! this is just a bit of my own thought process when it comes to writing luke. my tldr is that i think luke’s interest in aemond would stem as a response to a mixture of familiarity, fear/caution, as well as thrill. (there’s also the fact that i think luke has “i can fix him” energy. not necessarily optimistic but something that stems from a feeling of never being good enough and needing to prove he can be)

Welp that’s it. That was a good ass episode that we as a fandom should talk about more! It’s season 1’s version of leader time to me. In fact it’s part of my top ten favorite episodes of the series (I really need to make a list) I don’t say it that much but Sugino as a character brings me so much serotonin so watching this episode was a joy for me! Combined with the fact that I love baseball this episode was an absolute delight.

I keep forgetting how bad I feel for Shindy boy here. Like, he was just slightly cocky and he ended up getting manipulated left and right. Seriously, I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up having nightmares about the 3-E students sniping him in his sleep or something.

Demetri/Chubby!Reader (Cat from Victorious personality type Reader)

🐿🍬Reader met Tory at one of the most weirdest places ever, a candy shop. The place was brand new with a “grand opening” which brought a good discount on everything inside. Tory's little brother begged her to take him and she couldn't say no at that point. The place wasn't exactly huge but when she turned her back for one minute her brother was gone. She looked around for what seemed like forever until she finds him in the back of the store. Talking to a girl around her age.

“Hehe watch this-” the girls says as she hits the side of a older candy machine before rapidly turning the knob. Suddenly I rush of fresh hard candy falls out of the opening and her brother grinned as he caught it. She couldn't help but smile just a little as she watched her brother smile and the girl giggle.

After that they official introduced one another. Her brother from that day on loved the girl.

🐿🍬Its not long after that Tory essentially becomes Reader’s protector when they are hanging out with each other. She doesn't count the girl is some what smart but she's so scattered brained and nice that she over looks everything. It's a constant that the girl is to nice for her own good and she is constantly wondering about doing weird things. Luckily the girl is cute enough and tends to get out of bad situations, without even realizing she was in them in the first place. She literally has Tory sweating sometimes because of the things that she ends up getting herself into.

🐿🍬 Everyone is really surprised when they find out their friends. Reader is extremely gullible some times and a lot of people think that Tory is taking advantage of the poor girls friendship. But it’s definitely not the case when they see the way Reeder basically pulls her around everywhere. Tory complains about it, but it goes on deaf ears as Reader is usually in her own little world half of the time. Her complaining doesn’t last long as she ends up enjoying spending time with the girl.

🐿️🍬Tory is in shock when Hawk ends up spilling the tea. She finds out from the mowhawk boy that Demetri out of all people is the one who has a crush on the girl. Hawk is just as surprised, Reader is nothing like any of the girls Demetri has showed interest in before. He usually goes after mean girls, or just girls he can’t pull at all. Reader is sweet and bubbly. She’s the exact opposite of what he seems to be into. Hawk even has the nerve ti say he can’t believe Demetri isn’t complaining about her optimism like he does with everyone else.

🐿️🍬After finding this out Tory is on full alert. It’s not that she hates Demetri or anything but she’s not a huge fan of him. The guy is a downer in every way possible and his sarcasm is horrible. There is no way she’s going to let that type of guy go near Reader. He might literally suck the joy right out of her. He probably feeds off good vibes which poor Reader gives off constantly.

🐿️🍬Too bad for Tory because Reader is very much her own person. She does everything she wants and more. She can’t be under Tory’s watch all the time she there are always gaps when she goes without a watchful eye on her. One of those times is when she goes to the arcade by herself. The girl loves playing the arcade games just so she can get the tickets and get the cutest, funny and tiny prizes from the prize booth. She spends hours just walking around the place. Watching all the bright lights of the big and small arcade games.

🐿️🍬Insert Demetri spending his free time playing games at the arcade as well. It’s one of his favorite things to do with his free time besides school work, comics, and doing karate. He loves playing the classic games that are offered at the arcade. The prizes mean nothing to him, he hoards the tickets and hardly ever uses them. Only pulling them out when a decent prize is put out at the prize counter. He spends hours on his favorite games, blasting through them within minutes. He’s so focused that he hardly notices the chubby little on looker behind him. It takes her basically shoving herself under his arm for him to take notice of her. His face goes bright red and he instantly loses the game he was playing. Reader pouts at this.

🐿️🍬It turns out that Reader loves watching him play. It’s one of the only things that seems to keep her attention. Watching him get so focused on a game just seems to capture her full attention. She’s in complete awe while watching him go through multiple levels of different games like it’s so easy. She doesn’t even know how embarrassed it makes him when she goes on and on about how good he is. The way he plays the different arcade games is just amazing in her eyes.

🐿️🍬They spend the next few hours playing more games together. Demetri shows her his favorite games along with some of the biggest ticket ones. He’s taken aback when she pulls him around the room to different two player games. The whole time she just giggled and went on and on about what games they should play together. She wants to play all the two player games in the arcade. Hoping that he could teach her some tricks on how to win them, but also keep his company. Reader doesn’t even realize she’s basically keeping the boy hostage. Demetri feels like he’s been tricked into some kind of date.

🐿️🍬He won’t admit it out loud but he finds it kinda fun to hang out with the sweet air headed girl. He only ever use to go to the arcade with Eli and that was a long time ago, months maybe even a year or so now. Reader never seemed to get tired of the games, begging to go back and play the same one over and over again. She was stuck to him like glue, pulling him by the elbow. The whole time his face is flushed a bright pink as she leads him around. He actually finds it fun being able to play games with her. She’s a good sport too and doesn’t whine or cry when he wins, and he doesn’t complain when she does.

🐿️🍬For the first time that night at the arcade Demetri forks over his stack of tickets. He sees the girl eyeing a big stuffed plush on one of the racks over the prize counter. He knows she doesn’t have enough for it. Her eyes are all big and round as she looks up at it. With little thought he dumps all his tickets on the counter and redeems them all. He picks the plush and once he grabs it, he watches the huge smile that brims on the girls face. He softly shoved it into her arms. She squeals and almost jumps for joy as she hugs it tight to her chest. Two seconds later she is pulling the boy by his shirt and giving him a big fat kiss to the cheek. She laughs before rushing off into the night. Only leaving behind a very flustered Demetri who is stuck with a fat sticky pink lipgloss-covered cheek.

The way I see it, each life series is related to a season.

Third Life- Fall

Last Life- Winter

Double Life- Spring

Limited Life- Summer

Secret Life- Fall

Real Life- Winter?

Last Life is winter. I haven't actually seen Last Life in a while so this might not be a great analysis but bear with me. Everyone sort of went into this season with an almost sense of scramble and knowing what was to come. The winter set in quick and they all made their groups hastily in an attempt for shelter (which ended up causing unstable alliances). The boogyman caused distrust as players just tried to survive and keep themselves safe. Everything feels inevitable and every player is aware of what's at the end. I have strong feelings about this one, but if anyone else who is more familiar with Last Life wants to add on, please please do.

Third Life is fall. Now, you might say, "but, Frog, what about Red Winter?" to which I point out that Red Winter was coming, but it never fully came. The Red King and Dogwarts fell before it could ever officially be winter. Third Life is also fall because of the slow decent into death of everything as well as scarcity of resources as winter approaches. It's not winter yet, but it lurks on the horizon and as things get colder, so do the players and their relationships with each other.

Double Life is spring. Third time around, everybody is sort of starting to get used to the game and how it goes. They know what'll happen, but their attitudes are lighter. The ranchers ranch, new fresh partnerships are made, and everyone is sort of out and about. New elements are introduced such as, goat horns, allays, frogs, powdered snow, and the warden (rip Rancher's Revenge). The whole energy feels kind of excited and fresh in a way. Like just coming out of hibernation.

Limited Life is summer. I feel like I don't need to explain this one too much. The amount of water and ocean themes we get tie into the warm weather aspect. Everyone is social with each other (even if that's because of murder). I've seen this season compared to little kids playing pretend on the playground which sort of ties in with the fun and lighthearted energy. And yet the ticking timer reminds them that nothing, not even summer, can last forever (play 2000's teen summer movie trailer music here)

Secret Life is fall and it's the start of the season cycle again. Lizzie's pumpkin vibes help this theory. This season also had a sense of division to it with the secret tasks forcing people to go off on their own most of the time. In sort of a call back to Third Life, this season could be seen as a omen of what's to come in the winter, and I think that with, as the biggest thing, the Canary Curse getting broken can show that these people have changed and that they are prepared for the winter ahead and that things are going to be different.

And then I guess Real Life would be winter. I haven't quite figured out where this fits into my season theory, but I feel like it could show how this winter is different than the ones that came before. I admit, this season was too short to get a great vibe, so depending on the next season it might get cut to Fall 2.0 (cause I definitely think it's been accepted as canon and I don't want to just remove it)

Anyways those are my thoughts. I'd love to hear what anybody else thinks. I definitely could have said more about some of these but I don't want to ramble too much. I also feel like this could kind of tie into some funky things with the winners too, but I'll save that for another time.

Some reminders for whenever you're in a predominantly queer hobby space:

There is no universal queer experience that is not also a universal HUMAN experience. No, not even that one. Not that one either.

Being gay and homophobic isn't a jokey laughable meme because it's impossible; it's a jokey laughable meme because it's as tragic as it is assholey

Just because a stereotype is affirming to YOU doesn't mean you get to throw it at other people

Top and bottom are sexual preferences, not personality types, which ties to -

Reinventing and especially holding others to stereotypes from ancient Greece doesn't become the height of progress just because you turn it around and say "and that's okay and fun to be uwu"

The line between celebrating queer genderfuckery and doing those last 3 things is easier to miss than you think it is when you're crossing it

Either all words can be degendered or none of them can (and in practice it tends to be a quantum superposition such that they all can but also can't); don't try to use surface-level feminism to make it "okay" to misgender someone in one direction but not another, and DO respect people's boundaries about gendered terms, yes this means WITHOUT accusing people of sexism and toxic masculinity for being uncomfortable being called "princess"

People do not owe you any details about their queerness, they don't even owe you being out at all, and trying to pry because you feel entitled to a disprivilege checklist to contrast against your own is not only a dick move but also highly suspect

Bullying someone for being a flavor of queer that you can argue is theoretically more privileged than you is still bullying a marginalized person for the same reason they're marginalized from mainstream society and you're still an asshole

"Gatekeeping is bad 99% of the time" means the 1% exception is for assholes who enter a space actively showing disdain for the people already in it, refusing to learn the rules and culture, and demanding it be changed to their specifications, NOT "cringey" obscure identity groups, no not even if you can stereotype the whole group as said assholes

Someone talking about their own oppression experience and how it ties into the hobby space is not denying the existence of yours

If you publicly use queer terms as insults, even lightheartedly, you are indistinguishable from a garden-variety 4chan troll

If you use slurs as insults against other queer people, you are not "reclaiming" them

If you are in a predominantly queer space and you're convinced that you're just SURROUNDED by an unprecedented concentration of pedophiles and other sexual predators, congratulations, you've internalized some VIOLENT queerphobia, now go unpack that instead of making it everyone else's problem!

The "vibes" you're "picking up" are probably just old stereotypes you internalized, especially if you're new here

You cannot make sex-negativity queer-positive; most queer people fuck, many queer people have WEIRD sex sometimes, and sometimes in creative hobbies we will even express it THROUGH that hobby; you're free to be grossed out by any detail but other consenting adults' sex lives do not have to be appealing or even palatable to you, learn how to say YKINMKATO and filter shit instead of making it everyone else's problem

Finding you personally annoying is not inherently queerphobic

Not being down with the specific approach you take to queering the hobby is not inherently queerphobic

Liking the same thing does not make people inherently compatible as friends and being queer doesn't change that; the block button, on the other hand, will ALWAYS be your friend

Just because someone doesn't talk about queer issues outside of how they relate to the hobby space doesn't mean they're "faking," "playing the queer card", or reducing their own issues to petty hobby drama; it's far more likely that it means they're using the hobby space to get AWAY from that shit but unfortunately can't do so entirely because too many people forget a lot of shit on this list

Disappointment and frustration

Hellop. Never done something like this before, but here we go. This is going to be basically a large splurge of disappointment and frustration on one, particular person, Vivienne Medrano.

So to start this off, I've known about, and have been a fan, of Viv for a long while, ever since the Hazbin Polit. I've followed her work, been inspired by it, and found great fun with the characters and world.

Without Viv, I would not be a furry (debatable if this is good or bad), I would not have found characters I've found comfort in (Jackson Wells, Zoophobia), or other creators in the indie community. However, for a while now I've been seeing how Viv and her works have greatly fallen from there highs, and how Viv has, really dropped the ball in being professional.

Her tweets and general attitude have given off all the wrong vibes, and show a person who could care less about being professional. From the whole "Cain, I am your bitch" situation, how she handles ANY form of criticism that is even slightly negative, the way she tweets and responds to others etc. It all just compounds on her image, basically holding up a mirror.

Her show (or shows, Hazbis quality is to be debated when it releases), started out, in my opinion, rough yet charming, clearly having passion behind it and a fun time to watch, has degraded to a point of being a bland, misguided and unplanned mess where the main character now feels like a side character to another character who's derailed the premise and show as a whole. Don't get me started on the inconsistent animation quality, cause holy shit.

There is also the leaked, behind the scenes, screenshots stuff that, yes should be looked at skeptically, is slowly, and in some cases basically confirmed, to be true. Largely owing to her on twitter and some behind the scenes stuff that should make you do a double take. I.e. Treatment of female characters, the constant hiring of new employees, etc.

This also ties into how the Fandom treats these characters and situations, and is where a lot of my frustrations come into play. To explain, the Fandom surrounding Viv and her works is one of the most apparent toxic fandoms I have ever seen, all it takes for them to turn on you is a couple of tweets or posts about something you disagree with or being slightly critical of Viv, and they turn on you. The amount of harassment and death threats flung around is concerning to a high degree and Viv, doesn't do anything about it, not even an ask to stop, largely because she encourages it. Sure, it's not a tweet saying to attack someone, but all the likes she gives to her fans on any post talking about what someone said or done that didn't align with the greater fandom opinion, it encourages them because they see it, they see that the person they look up to has liked what they said and so they keep doing it, so they get more likes form her. It's, sad to see really. The Fandom treats these characters above people really, holding them up and parading them around like they can do no wrong, and the same is for Viv.

There's more I could say, but many have already said it before and will continue to say it until, Viv basically fades away, because the way Viv handles herself, the Fandom that surrounds her and much more, wont survive the fact that when Hazbin drops, and is reviewed, and those critical comments and reviews come about it that are even slightly negative, the Fandoms going to get bloodthirsty and destroy any good will left or they would've had with the general public.

I am going off the rails with this one so bear with me LOOOL

So I think Eternity would seek Infernal Sin out 👀 she seems like she moves around more than he does with the vibe that he just chills in his lava and has people brought to him, but that would change when Eternity has a proposition for him heh (cause I think he would happily 'work for her' but is really just taken off his leash to enact Eternity's justice. and when doing so takes on his full feathered dragon-phoenix form thing)

Needing a fourth member looks like heh

(also why is Joseph everywhere lol take a nap old man -wheeze-) I also like how she seems lorge here with her shadow

So I think that would be the reason for their meeting, her seeking him out about her proposition to join her (even though he is infernal SIN, she can trust him deal out her punishments/cleansing, and in return he isn't in the line of fire or rather 'destruction of sin' lol)

I think he would be fascinated to receive a visit from her. Before, he likely knew of her and was keeping tabs just in case she became an issue and turn him into a target that needs to be eradicated. So, to see her in the same place as him, and it isn't because she is trying to destroy him, would be interesting lol. He also notes how cold and calculating she comes off as. It won't be until later in their cooperation that he will see what she is like behind the looking glass and the toll all of this is having on her.

random sidestep:

Infernal Sin gives me Eris vibes from Sinbad

the way he toys with mortals and just waits ((but that might just be because he seems kind of tied down to his realm and has to send mortals out in his place, soooo if a certain someone unleashes him and he is able to go wherever he wants to divvy out that justice, (in his full form) that he is assigned to do now, weeeeellll LOL))

So I think this proposition would be everything he wants lol Freedom and the ability to openly cause chaos and destruction. The only limitation is that it would all be limited to those Eternity has targeted. Which I don't think he would mind much anyway lol just full "you point, I go~"

He might have been prepared to toy with Eternity at the mention of a deal to get the most out of this, only for Eternity to just immediately lay out the golden plater, So he just melts and says, yes this is perfect I am yours LOL

Now some random situations lol:

~Eternity: "take off your mask" Infernal Sin: "and why would I do that?" Eternity: "let me see who I am working with..." -Infernal Sin, finding this interesting, decides to oblige and removes his mask- -Eternity using a moment to take in his features, then clears throat- "yes this union will work nicely" Infernal: "?????"

~Eternity seated alone while surrounded by fire and chaos all around her, until Infernal arrives in his full form, stepping into the calm and quiet that Eternity keeps around her. He curls up around her and rests his head near her and she pets the bridge of his snout. an unfortunate job well done

~Then Nightmare calling Infernal "the guard dog". So Infernal being like 'sure why not' and try to bite him LOL

~Eternity finding Infernal to be warm and comfy, especially when in his phoenix-dragon form and them nice feathers lol

~Infernal showing up to Eternity's lair and just "sheesh, this place is dusty, dreary, and falling apart" Nightmare: "you live in the literal depths of a volcano" Infernal: "where it is bright and warm and put together nice, so what's your excuse??"

~Infernal and Nightmare keeping their distance from Joseph cause that is one strangely young looking old man right there. Nightmare: "trade seats with me" Infernal: "no way, continue to suffer" -looks at the other person beside him- "........who is this by the way...." Nightmare: "why should I answer when you won't trade seats.." Infernal: "......." -jumps Nightmare- -the usual fighting resumes loool-

~when no one is looking, Infernal and Eternity are alone and finally able to show themselves with no walls or masks or anything and it usually ends up with Infernal comforting Eternity.

marinette is FAR from being a “normal girl, with a normal life” (general criticism, and analysis of the location concept art)

pardon any mistakes, this is a rant post lmaoo

first and foremost, she is the daughter of paris’s most popular bakery. everyone knows it. and it's not loved the same way a long time neighbourhood bakery is loved. sleek high class interior design, like i bet a simple croissant costs 4 euros or smth.

now how about the earlier bakery design?

cluttered, lots of bread stacked everywhere, but it coneys well their love for baking. wonder why those "run down eating places" are always the one that have the greatest tasting food? it's because their heart is in cooking the meal. tbh, reminds me of the bakery in kikis delivery service actually. and why does these two bakeries feel so much nicer despite being so simple looking? because you can feel the hardwork (oh and the brown is a true vibe). full offence but the neatness of the current bakery feels like its a corporate business.

two, while she goes to a public school, it’s like the kids of all the most rich and famous citizens of paris are gathered there. adrien, model and son of renowned fashion designer. chloe, daughter of the mayor. juleka, daughter of famous rock star, alix, daughter of historian at louvre. mylene, daughter of a leading mine performer that had his posters plastered everywhere. that’s like just some of i remember. definitely not normal. unfortunately no concept art of the school. but knowing that the PV did reference marinette's bedroom, im going to assume the school design existed as a brief sketch.

this seems like a classy, rich college, same like the current one. but the design is better, imo, looks more school-ish. and third, it’s so clear that marinette is super rich. like man what the hell that room is thrice the size of mine. yet it lacks so much personality. what does this tell us about her? she likes pink. i seriously cannot find anything here that stands out to me.

this is why i much prefer the concept art locations. at least they look sort of middle class. it also gives marinette a “cozy” vibe, and someone who makes the best out of a given situation.

marinette is given the attic room. lots of beams, not very well furnished. yet she takes advantage of a seemingly bad room by using the beams to place boxes and toys. she also uses cloth to decorate the place, showing her appreciation of cloth design. it’s small, but has character, compared to marinette’s pink spacious room that’s a mess to look at.

furthermore the rooftop clearly isn’t meant to be used like that. but she adds little features to it, such as a simplistic bird house, wood planks to allow an even surface to place stuff/ sit, and a tent tied down by random pink strings and ribbons. it shows how she’s adaptable, creative and caring (bird house). plus it alludes to a sense of defiance and her “wanting to take a break”.

on the other hand, the current (it’s not even called a rooftop it’s called a balcony) is in big open space, smack right in front of the eifel tower, nicely floored with a proper fence and proper table for teapot. nothing here is "make shift" like the previous design. even if marinette did spend time making this place nice, how can we tell? there's nothing that hints to us that she worked on it. it doesn’t convey anything about marinette to us anymore, other than: “oh holy shit she's pretty rich”.

even this even earlier design is simple, but still says more about marinette than the current balcony. she carried her teapot all the way up there even though it's insanely difficult to. this tells us she's willing to put extra effort into things.

you could say im looking too deep into things. but i really am not. people fail to understand that even art, animation and film, every little detail, no matter how small, is important and should tell us the personality of the character.

with all the choices made in the series, how could you convince anyone that marinette is supposed to be normal? the whole concept of marinette and ladybug is that she looks average on the surface, but is capable of being a superhero due to all these favourable character traits of hers that tend to be overlooked. marinette dupain cheng? writers can't even make her look average for gods sake. from her appearance (stereotypically good-looking instead of charmingly cute, there's a difference), and her life in general (blessed with all the chances in the world that basically spoon feeds her her dream).

its exactly like those famous hollywood stars saying how much they suffered before they could succeed. except they were rich from the start with famous parents.

Is kicking and screaming about how "there’s literally no argument that can win when popular blog says you’re wrong," a cute way of saying, "I've realized how many people disagree with me, and I have learnt new information that makes me nervous about insisting that AO3 is *checks notes* run by cops, but backing down humiliates me so I'm going to pretend I'm losing this argument because I'm a victim being bullied by a BNF"?

Oh, it could be a million different things.

But it for sure is pretending that somebody with a few thousand tumblr followers is categorically different from somebody with... a few hundred? A few dozen? It's not like one can tell on Tumblr! Nobody would even know how many followers I have if I didn't say now and then, and I've had people whining about my supposed popularity way back to when I had few followers but had a rash of asks in a row. ("Waaah, people interact with you, so you're more popular than meee!!" Jesus.)

This idea that ~BNFs~ are soooo different goes back decades, and it's poison.

And I don't even mean that you're making some rando's life suck by treating them like some fake internet micro-celebrity (though most people branded "BNF" do have a worse fandom experience after they get popular). I mean that it's bad for oneself to perceive categorically different Celebrities or Authorities in people who are actually peers.

You're not lesser than those other people just because you don't have a hit fanfic. You're not even necessarily less popular.

Yeah, sometimes, if you shit on so-and-so's objectively awful fanfic, their legions of annoying fans will show up to yell at you, and that's annoying. Fandom and tumblr fame are still on a long sliding scale. This isn't BNFs vs. Regular Joes: It's a bunch of people with constantly fluctuating social ties interacting in a thousand directions with a thousand power dynamics every moment.

"I'm less popular so no one will listen to me" is a cop out people use when they aren't confident in their own arguments.

I've been tumblr popular for, what, two years? Three years? I was just as willing to argue with people about things I believed in before that. It's only the number of reblogs agreeing with me that has changed.

If you make a good point and you argue it well, some of the bystanders will agree with you.

If you make transparently idiotic points, many of them will not.

This is what it means to be in an intellectual society that values discussion.

And if you don't like coming to the salon to argue with the other nerds intellectuals... then why on earth are you interacting with the kinds of posts I make?

It's particularly true for my own posts because I read my entire activity list and notice commentary, including tag commentary, but I'd have this assumption for any post that gave off Metafilter/Reddit/LJ's Metafandom type vibes. Come to the discussion place, signal that you're open to discussion, expect discussion to ensue.
