A Monster Called Home

There’s a kid somewhere who feels too big for their skin. Their bones are huge, stretching through muscle and poking from the seams of velvet flesh. Too soft to be touched but touched all the same.

The kid has bruises that show and some that don’t. The cataclysmic patchwork of veins that become visible in the right shade of lighting.

“I’m pretty sure I can’t feel things.”

It doesn’t make sense and the words have no real meaning. It’s just something to say, something to whisper in the middle of the night when no one else is around.

A night light could flicker but it might as well go out.

“I’m pretty sure I’m broken.”

It’s the age old story of shattered glass on pavement and years of bad luck. The kid could pick the glass up and risk cutting their fingers, ripping open skin and spreading their blood around like wildfire.

They could. But what would be the point?

If you’re blood feels unworthy of spilling at all, what do you do?

“What if I never get better?”

It’s another whisper, sitting atop covers that the kid has yet to remove. Get in bed and go to sleep and wake up in the middle of the night and go back to sleep and wake up again and repeat until the radio drones on.

“What if no one ever says anything?”

The shadow beneath the kids bed has a yearning of its own. The deep need to be seen, to be heard. To live out of the darkness, sink it’s way into the light. But it can’t, can it? Just like unworthy blood, the monster doesn’t belong. Not on pavement or bedsheets or beneath velvet skin with bones too big.

“I think I’m a monster,” The kids says to an empty room, full of a yearning to go. To stretch beyond walls made of brick and sinew. “I think it’s me.”

And far trapped beneath beds and doorframes and lies and fingers skimmed with blood from the tiniest mistakes, lies the stretching bones of a monster called home.

i think that it’s really really good, actually, that we as a collective still lose our fucking minds over mcr even though they are not in their 20s anymore and don’t look it either. it really proves wrong all those people who say fans of bands and artists who have a Style to them only like them for their looks. it also shows how much this band fuckin Means to us all, because yes we call gerard our gf and joke around like that but they’re (the band) also like. much older than most of us. and we love them like they are our best friends. we love them like there isn’t a 15+ year age gap between us. they’re old enough to be some of the younger fan’s dads, and we are still loving them like they aren’t aging. maybe we love them while they age too, as their bright eyes grow a little paler, their skin forms wrinkles, their hair gets grayer. we love them because they love us, and they love us when we have all grown. we grew up together. we grew up together.
