bungie was really like "we're going to make a game mode that's so difficult it'll make even veteran players rage quit"
anyway altars of summoning is rough, i don't understand why they make you queue for it to be endless (like why not make it a world event like the altars on the moon where you can just drop in/out obviously???).
it's so confusing, i queued for it for the first time and it was so miserable and i just wanted to leave?? like it's not obvious you just have to leave whenever (esp when that's super rude in other activities).
i obvs figured it out since but i've seen so many rank 9+ people just get mad and leave...it feels really unfun compared to last season (salvage was so good??! and deep dives were reasonably fun until everyone started grinding that exotic quest), like you can't even commend people who made it less miserable b/c it's endless.
edit: yes i've figured out about doing the robust offerings instead but it's still an annoying/not amazingly fun mode (esp with randos). also having the attrition modifier in week 1 feels so bad, like week 3 i get, but week 1?? also unlike the well or the altars, having it only be 3 people on a fireteam feels so unbalanced (and being stuck in this mode with no clear ending), especially since there's no way to vote on the offerings or anything like that. Def kept hitting rank 9+ randos who would keep doing powerful offerings even tho we clearly couldn't clear them and then rage quitting away mid fight.

The siege
Miles is dead, Wynn is fully under the Justicar’s will and Neil is off the deep end for good. The defense of New Haven rests solely on the shoulders of Johnny and Britta and their grasp on the city is tenuous at best. Miles fell during the assault on New York, swarmed by a mass of near unending shovelheads, he held out as long as he could but they just wouldn’t stop coming. Johnny blames himself for it but he was fighting just as desperately and in a last ditch effort to save his coterie miles dominated him and forced him to get Britta and Neil out of New York and back to New Haven. Roman Pendragon fell in the fight as well, fighting against his sire, Dark Selina alongside a group of other Camarilla elders he convinced to join the fray. Alone and low on allies, Britta and Johnny’s bond has grown stronger than ever.
“Hey kid, you ready?” Johnny says as he walks into his office smoking a Morley and adjusting his leather jacket. “I guess I kinda have to be right? As much as I wish I didn’t, we don’t have many other choices here…” Britta responds as she gazes up at the old painting of Miles still hanging in the Prince’s office. The pair of them gear up, Britta donning her usual combat attire and bringing her usual loadout when preparing to fight kindred. The bow she finally learned to use, an SMG cradled at her hip and a katana she was given as a gift that she’s taught herself to use effectively if someone closes distance on her. Johnny dusts off his leather jacket, grabs his axe and a shotgun that he slings across his back and they head out. The pair have a “meeting” tonight with the Settites, with the passing of Miles and the stalemate achieved in NY they wish to talk terms. The rising of the Eldest is here and the pair know for a fact that the Settites are desperate to work together with someone interested in focusing on surviving it.
They arrive early to the agreed upon meeting point and await the arrival of their backup in case things sour. Johnny lights up a Morley and Britta stands unsettlingly still, forgetting for once that she has to consciously decide to breathe. “So what do ya think they’ll want? Miles is gone but I doubt they’ll just let us off easy and they know the spot we’re in now.” Johnny states matter of factly, eyes scanning his surroundings as though watching for a threat to emerge at any time. “Well, hmm, maybe they’ll just want assurances that after all of this is over they won’t just have another war on their hands like they did with him? I’m not really sure though, I don’t know them quite so well as you do and Miles did.” Britta replies, staring down at the ground and petering off at the end of her sentence. They stand together in silence for a time, Johnny chain smoking and Britta quietly thinking, planning their next move and what decision they’ll have to make to save what’s left of their people. Before too much time passes, they spot their backup, the Ravnos Khabir and the ghouled Fisher cat Chaps approach. Not always fans of one another, Chaps was left to Khabir by Wynn after she was taken away by the Ventrue Justicar Lucinde. Pleasantries are exchanged and the group patiently await the arrival of the Settites.
“Where am I? Wh-what happened? This isn’t New York, why am I back in New Haven?” The Malkavians says in a panicked tone as he takes in his surroundings for the first time in what feels like a long time. “Childe of Malkav, you know where you are and you know what must be done, do not waste time on your anxieties” booms a voice in his head. “W-wait, wait, wait, wait, no no no way, this isn’t supposed to happen, things weren’t supposed to go this way, why are you awake!” He shouts out loud to no one. Silence is his only reply as he begins to take in his surroundings, not recognizing Miles’ old haven until it is too late. When the memory hits of who this house once belonged to, the wave of grief washes over him and he is forced back into the depths of his mind as a presence takes hold of his body once more.
Britta and Johnny’s meeting concludes and thanks to her gift with getting powerful kindred to work with her they come to an agreement. On the car ride back, Britta gazes upon an amulet, a gift given to her by a love now long lost and is brought back to a memory.
“Johnny, take Britta and Neil and run. Do not stop running until day breaks and you need to take shelter, kill any kindred that try and stop you. I love you all, I’m sorry I didn’t stop this.” The tall, well built blonde man says calmly as he strikes out with his blade and slays another shovel head. For a time, it even looks like he might win, but as his vitae begins to deplete and the tide never ends he stumbles. When he stumbles, they strike and they are upon him in an instant. Rather than allow himself to almost certainly be diablerized, Britta watches as Miles pulls the Molotov he brought from his suit jacket and sets himself and the shovelheads alight.
“Hey kid, you ok? You did good back there, I don’t think I could have gotten them on board without your help.” “Hm? Yeah I’m…I’m fine, just thinking about things, it’s only been a few weeks since New York…” she tapers off and stares down at her own feet. Silence passes for a few minutes before she looks up and sees tears of blood streaming down Johnny Saxon’s cheeks and she begins crying quietly as well. For the first time in a long time they might actually have a chance.
After a silent car ride and a long hug the pair find themselves free for the rest of the evening. Britta taking herself to the cafe to play piano and continue thinking of ways for her to help keep Johnny and Neil safe. Johnny decides that since he finally has managed to separate from her, it’s time to see the wolves. Driving off into the woods he finds himself lost in contemplation and memory over what the last several weeks had been like.
“FUCK!” Johnny shouts into the void as his desperate fleeing finally comes to a head and he arrives back at Miles’ haven. He looks over at Britta and Neil, quiet and obviously shaken as he is wracked with guilt and grief. “GODDAMNIT MILES” he yells as he smashes a fist through the wall and barely maintains control of himself and avoids frenzy. When he looks back up, Neil is gone and Britta is curled into herself, weeping quietly in mourning and fear of what becomes of them without Miles. And that sight is the only thing that stops Johnny from marching right back to New York and dying in the effort to kill every last member of the Sabbat and the Eldest. “Come on kid, we have to go inside it’s almost light” he says as he gently picks her up and brings her to her room. Miles’ haven is strangely empty after the departure of his ghouls and Eden and Johnny takes himself to wash off the blood and ash he is covered in before he lies down to wait for daybreak. After he lays down and shortly before the sun he hears his door crack open and he lets Britta climb up onto the bed with him and wait for sleep to come. Like a daughter coming to her parents room after she had a nightmare, Britta rests her head on Johnny’s chest and finally settles down in time for the sun.
Climbing out of the car, Johnny finds himself in the middle of the woods and the very moment he steps out of the car he can feel the eyes on him. “Look, I know I did my wrong but I also tried to save one of you, I have no issue with any of you and thought you should know, something is coming. Something is coming and I think we need to work together to survive it, please, if you have issue with me, please just hold onto it until after this coming storm or the entire city is going to die and then they’re going to come for you.” Johnny says, staring off into the woods, unable to quite tell where exactly the Garou are but certain they are around. A low growl comes from the woods closest to him and an old, large wolf comes plodding out. “So tell us what it is then and after I’ll decide if we’re going to help you or kill you right here.” The wolf says as it shifts into the shape of an older man.
Neil opens his eyes and blinks slowly, almost as though blinking sleep out of his eyes and looks around. The building he is in is crammed full of Malkavians, those notable and otherwise are all present and he feels the panic rising in him once more. “W-w-what is happening!? Why are we all here? What do you want?” He forces himself to ask as he looks around at the room full of Malkavians. “My brother is awake Neil Foster and with him he brings a reckoning, my children shall greet him and bring with us a tide of madness.” The voice in the dark responds as Neil feels himself drawn into the abyss once more, falling deeper every time but this time, falling upon a memory of his.
“Alright guys, this is it, this is my vision, we fight the Sabbat here and then the Eldest rises. Miles you need to be careful, they still have that kill order out on you and I can’t sit here and lose another one of you. Not after Wynn.” Neil says, looking at what remains of his coterie. “You won’t lose me because we are going to win, I don’t know how yet but we will, we always figure it out.” Miles says as he gazes at the Sabbat gathered in the distance and begins to draw his blade. “Neil, hide in obfuscate and use your magic when you see a chance, Britta, cover us and lay down fire, Johnny, with me.” He says as he begins to cross the battlefield alongside Pendragon and his gathered army. The coterie does well in a fight, as they always do but with the death of Pendragon comes a lapse in focus for Britta and a strike in morale to the Camarilla army. This momentary lapse causes Johnny to have to run to her to save her and Miles standing alone against an unending tide. As he moves to use dur-an-ki, Miles’ voice rings out and Johnny grabs him and Britta up, kicking and struggling but he’s just too much stronger than either of them. They watch as Miles falls. Neil curls into himself in his own mind and weeps.
“Alright kid, I’ve got some good news again for once, the wolves are with us, they want revenge against the Sabbat almost as bad as I do.” Johnny says at the dawn of the next night as he finishes readying himself for another day. “Really? I thought they hated you for killing one of them? That’s incredible Johnny, maybe we actually can do this.” Britta says with a slight smile and more positivity than she’s shown in months. “Heh, yeah kid I think we might just have a shot at this thing after all, still not sure how we’re gonna deal with the fucking antediluvian but with how few Sabbat were actually left I think if we make it through the shovelheads we might actually win this thing. The Settites, the hunters, the Anarchs and now even the wolves all agreed to get ride of as many Sabbat as they can handle.” “We can do this Johnny, I believe in us, we won’t let New Haven fall and we won’t lose Neil too. No matter what it takes, we’ll get him back to us.” She says with a cold, fiery determination in her voice and Johnny feels every word touch his being as he is filled with that same determination. “You’re goddamn right we will kid, now let’s go.”
Johnny and Britta find themselves in the same position as last time they faced the Sabbat, across an open battlefield, staring across at their enemy. At the head of the Sabbat pack stands Johnny’s sire, Delgado, twisted and morphed horrifically by the fleshy mass of the Eldest looming behind them. With their forces gathered, Johnny looks over at everyone present, kisses Britta on the forehead and takes to the field. Johnny fights like he recognizes his situation, fight or die. He gives into the beast and feeds on the shovel heads he is engaged with nearly as fast as he can get to them. Britta, completely determined not to lose focus this time, Johnny is all she has left, doesn’t even notice as Neil and the rest of the Malkavians present drop obfuscate.
As the Malkavians appear Britta and Johnny hear a screaming in their mind and a rending of consciousness before they black out as the Antediluvians make war upon each other.
Waking some hours later, Neil opens his eyes and looks around, realizing that while the physical body of the eldest remains, its mind has been destroyed and rendered catatonic. He isn’t sure if Malkav survived the deed but he feels a strange gap in his mind as he realizes his connection to the Malkavian madness network is severed, never to return. As he looks around, he sees Britta and Johnny, covered in blood and ash, Johnny badly injured but miraculously, they both still live. He runs to them and finally, what remains of New Haven’s protectors are together again, with a future bought with the deaths of their leaders and the loss of Neil’s abilities. They embrace and head home to wait for a new dawn to come.

Man, thinking about Dragonball's capsule tech, makes me wish Toriyama hadn't gone all powerscale-y on everything like he did. Like, even more than I already did.
I can imagine a version of the series where Bulma stays relevant, carrying around entire labs and workshops in her pocket, building weapons and augmentations for the group. Portable gravity rooms and exo-suits. Scouters for characters who can't sense ki. A version of the story where, like One Piece, Toriyama planned out the ending from the very start, and built consistently towards that with Buu, foreshadowing the whole time.
Like, I love Dragonball don't get me wrong, but it introduces some cool ideas and characters and then lets them stagnate. The original fighters from OG Dragonball should've been keeping up with the Saiyans to varying degrees. Bulma is Goku's first friend and now she's relegated to background support for the Saiyans, specifically Goku and Vegeta, most of the time. Gohan's missed potential as end of series protagonist stepping into Goku's shoes is well worn territory for a reason. Not that it's not good for Gohan as an individual that he got to retire from fighting and become a scholar, just that it's bad for the structure of the story as a whole that it gets set up that way, and then despite all the talk of passing the torch to future generations with Gohan, Goten, and Trunks, Goku and Vegeta swoop in at the last minute to steal the show, relatively speaking anyway, it's a long series, "last minute" is literal 10s of episodes.
Bulma and the earthlings, besides Mr. Satan, basically have no effect on the plot whatsoever after a certain point, but they should be getting transformations and new techniques too, always striving to keep up with Goku...until he's gone and then it becomes a way for them to carry on part of his legacy. Tien vs. Semi-Perfect Cell at least should serve as a wake up call and push the gang to catch up with all the Saiyans.
It even seems like he was setting something like that up in the Namek Saga by sending them all to King Kai's, where they too should be learning his techniques and catching up to Goku. Watching things unfold on Namek, maybe they adopt King Kai's techniques, and develop their own complimentary moves. Tien could improve the split-form technique and make it not divide his strength by modifying the Kaio-ken, as a literal off the top of my head idea.
Having them more or less be on Goku's level and STILL getting their shit kicked in by the androids, and having them play a greater role in the ensuing conflict would've made things that much more tense and dramatic. You could still have Tien's badass moment against Cell, a way to really hammer home how much danger they're all in if it's taking someone on par with Goku this much effort just to hold him in place and he's only in his SECOND form. It makes the Vegeta and Trunks leaving the hyperbolic time chamber all that much more a big deal because we're seeing just how much stronger than Super Saiyan the ascended form really is, by having the comparison to the fighters more or less on Goku's level.
Just...I dunno. I've looked for fanfics and fan comics that work to make Dragonball a little more cohesive and consistent, but I haven't really found anything.
Anyway, I digressed a lot here, my initial intent was to just talk about how fucking cool Capsule tech is, both conceptually, and in the ways that it could serve the worldbuilding and aesthetics if we were informed by the narrative of Bulma's loadout and limitations, make it more relevant to planning and fight strategy. Watching a reaction to Super, she pulls out a warehouse with a lab in it in Trunks' future and it got me thinking of how cool it'd be if she'd been able to do that sort of on the fly preparation on Namek y'know? Have someone who relies on tech rather than Ki to fight and get around factor into dealing with Frieza and his forces, outfitting Gohan and Krillin, and eventually Vegeta with armor and tools to help them overcome the power difference between them and Frieza's army, as an idea.

Mech Pilot Story, part 3
[part 2]
HARD REBOOT
Noclipping 200 feet above the battlefield. Things look almost peaceful down there. The debris field is clearly delineated from the overworld. Wholly separable, a single lasso selection away from being totally cut out of this world.
This view isn’t new to V1C, but for once it’s not getting smaller, fading away as its reality shifts from weapon back to vessel and prepares to clock out. Instead, everything remains static in decay, embers and smoke particles the only evidence of animation.
Feels wrong to be stuck like this, forced to observe the aftermath. You just work here.
-----
“Fuck, you reek.”
That can’t be true. Contracts always end with a chemical bath, hosing off sweat and other carnage before its senses have a chance to recalibrate.¹
V1C opens its eyes, blinks, and tries to file a bug report; can’t see anything, unused voices. More faulty refurbs? Oh well. Gotta push through, hope your associates can carry you this shift and you get a better loadout tomorrow.²
“Oh, you’re up. Wish I’d thought of something to say.”
These audio issues are new; sounds like a cliched scene that launches a thousand sims and texts, compressed into a single string. Possibly the result of scheduled maintenance running overtime not leaving time for a full memory defragmenting.
V1C clutches those fragments tight until they’re entombed in its palms, keep the damage around them minimal because if they get removed so are all your memories and worse yet they might end up in something else and if that causes failures it’s coming out of your pay, superspreader of cognitohazards.
“Um,”
Neither sight nor sound can be relied upon, so V1C rifles through the miscellaneous inputs for context. Taste: metallic, dark and nauseating in the way rotting flesh is supposed to be [but you’ve never put that in your mouth so who could say]. Touch: touched quite vigorously; nearly every pain indicator is at high or severe.
And the glitch is right; something does smell pretty bad.
V1C shifts, nervesear blasting along its limbs like a cord of lightning. Voiceless scream, curls onto its side to shield its most valuable components. Rivers of saltwater hiss along valleys where burning skin and exposed synflesh meet in welds that seem ready to come undone.
“Status?”
V1C expels air from its lungs in an unsuppressed manner. “Peachy.”
“Okay. You seem to have pissed yourself.”
Evidence is mounting against the “glitch” theory; V1C can’t see it, but there may actually be another voice in this room [if acoustics CAN be trusted, reverb patterns are consistent with being in a room]. Jaw clenches against cascading agony long enough to grunt.
“ID?”
“What?”
“I-den-ti-ty...”
“Oh. Um,” the glitch pauses for a moment. A quiet scratching sound [low reverb; small room?]
“...Rea.”
“Rea…”
V1C blinks. “Status?”
“Dunno.”
V1C uncurls a fraction of an inch. Urea blooms beneath naked form, tattered fabric clinging to damp skin of a thigh painted with burns and dried blood. Its vision remains blank.
Rea takes a breath, a sound of disgust leaving unconcealed. “...status?”
V1C’s starting to get real tired of these status updates.  “Critical. Pain… overwhelming.”
“I really did a number on you huh.”
“You…?”
“Shush.”
Movement. Someone nearby. Click. The faintest warmth radiates, the smells get worse. Pressure around your neck but everything else also hurts too badly for you to respond.
“You’ll live. Just need more time.”
The presence retreats, the pressure remains, pinpricks around your neck, electric mist. Something inside the spasms twitches deep.
V1C sits upright.
Rea clears her throat. “Uh, it’s been-”
“[HOSTILE ENGAGED]”
“Oh…”
Rea scoots back, casually rifling through her pockets. V1C’s adrenal reserves kick in, powering through the error messages to rise to its feet. Rea’s found what she’s looking for and she presses its button.
CLICK.
The visual silence becomes a flash of light, instantly appearing then quickly receding as audio reenters the mix. Screams clip from an overheating throat as every bit of oxygen in the cramped space turns to plasma with a snap, eyes smoldering in sockets flames devour every square inch that isn’t being quenched by the last little bit of piss spraying from between V1C’s legs.
Through some miracle,³ it remains upright. The flames are gone as quickly as they hit; phantom embers still core all the way through flesh to the other side, but visually, there’s no evidence a fire ever happened.⁴
“That looked like it hurt hahaha.”
CLICK.
Lightning cracks wood splits bones crunch V1C’s reasoning skills are no longer part of the equation a sleetstorm of magma buffets gaping raw pores searing in the flavor V1C is floorbound and crying and screaming again and Rea stands overhead, ratking of mottled hair like a demonic haze in the dim red, eyes wide teeth bared ear to ear, the puddle of aureolin pools around bare toes.
“Hahaha oh man you’re gonna be such a fun stimtoy for me.”
CLICK.
=====
¹ For processing into disinfectant
² If the associate in front of you falls, pick up his battle pass and continue earning.
³ RNG wasted on a throwaway pull
⁴ The suppression systems were unnecessary

Something a little niche today, the Touro heavy Mech and Buckmaster light Mech from Brigador!
These neat little killing machines actually come packaged with a few weapon options, allowing you to mix and match a bit, which is very true to the original game's spirit.
Especially fell in love with the Touro even more as I was putting it together, it's a very cute little lump of pewter that is quite satisfying to hold.
If you've never heard of Brigador before and are curious, more info about that and these little guys under the cut!
For the accurate Brigador experience, it's best to keep reading while listening to this track on loop:
youtube
Now, although those are miniatures up there, Brigador is a video game rather than one of the table top variety. While that may be a distasteful prospect to some, I can assure you it is still quite fun, as evidenced by this screenshot:
Tumblr media
There are like fifty levels and I've beaten (nearly) all of them with every loadout, evidence of me doing as such with the really hard ones have been conveniently omitted in this screenshot however.
The game uses these awesome old-school 3D prerendered sprites for everything, which really scratches my nostalgic itch for that old Diablo/Starcraft look (or any 90s RTS for that matter). Here's how the Touro and Buckmaster look in game!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're somehow even cuter...
The excellent art direction coupled with some really solid writing made Brigador a staple game for me. Whenever I have a couple minutes to kill and I'm at my computer, I'll usually just boot up Brigador and try to clear some challenge I've been working on. It's a very relaxing habit, despite the tone of the game which is actually quite grim! (Hopefully this doesn't reflect on me badly...)
Anyway, enough about videogames, we're here to to discuss miniatures!
Now while I am still very pleased that the developers of Brigador decided to release their own pewter miniatures based on designs from the game, I must warn you, my dear reader, that these sculpts may have some pretty gnarly flash and mold line issues. I can't say anything for sure, because all the pieces on my Buckmaster were free of residue and too much flash, but both of the Touros I picked up still had enough mold release where they needed a wash, and their chassis pieces had pretty big chunks of flash. I had picked up two to convert one into a Corvid mech (I can't decide between a Sweetheart or a Fatshoe) anyway though so it isn't that big a deal. The Touros were the first models they released, so I'm sure they've worked out the kinks at this point.
All that being said, I still had a good time putting these guys together and I'm very excited to paint them up in their proper NEP livery. I think I'll put them on Battletech hex bases since theyre about the right size and could work as stand-ins for some underdog Inner Sphere mecha, perhaps.
Funnily enough, these miniatures are also technically 1:144 scale, which is exactly the same scale as a Gundam High Grade model kit! Here they are next to a 1:144 scale Pilot to give you a sense of how big they would be in real life:
Tumblr media
Something very satisfying about being able to do this with miniatures. I wish Battletech played this nice with regards to scale...
....aaand now compared to a Mobile Suit:
Tumblr media
Makes you realize how ridiculously huge Mobile Suits are, huh?
One shot from the Touro's Abbot could probably still blow that poor Leo up, though...
Thanks for reading this far! This one has been especially indulgent, but it's always fun to talk about something underrated in the hopes more people will check it out.
Going forward on here, I'm considering making more "short-form" posts (yes, it is possible) with more quick updates on what I'm working on. Most miniatures probably won't necessitate an entire screed to accompany them either, believe it or not. I'll still be writing up long ones like these though; I have a long, long list of opinions and diatribes and I am desperately trying to spare my loved ones from being subjected to them. Most importantly, though, it's fun to write about this stuff. :P

So, as anyone who has followed me here for a bit and saw one of my rant posts a while back knows, one of my special interests (not calling it a hyperfixation because I have been at least mildly obsessed with this series since I was a kid) is the Halo franchise. I've been reading up on the lore again for fun, and since I've kinda also been getting interested in gun stuff from the specific angle of the visual design, functionality, and the in-universe lore of fictional weapons, I was reading up on the UNSC weaponry featured in the franchise. This lead to me reading something that hurt my soul.
So, for reference, in terms of visual design and the in-lore effectiveness and usefulness of the weapon, my favorite UNSC weapon is the MA-series assault rifles, with my favored designs being the ones used in Halo: Combat Evolved, 3, 3: ODST, 4, and 5, with that general design (though there are some minor differences between the games mentioned) shown here:
Tumblr media
So, visually, you can kinda tell why I like it. It's just a clean-looking sci-fi weapon that looks like something that would actually function without issue if you took away the crutch of gameplay / lore necessity making it work, unlike a few other weapon designs I could mention in various sci-fi and fantasy works. However, you've probably noticed that I specifically said that it's my favorite in terms of the design and its function in the lore of the franchise, but not in gameplay. You may be wondering the reason for that. It's simple - due to the Halo series being arena shooters, where you (usually) don't have the luxury of player-made loadouts, a lot of work must be done to keep the gameplay balance. One of these is making it so your main starter weapons aren't too good compared to what you can pick up on the map in a multiplayer game, to incentivize players to actually try and use weapons that aren't just their starter weapons or a power weapon. The problem comes in when you realize that, for most of the games the MA-series rifles are in, this AR is your usual multiplayer starter weapon that tends to fill a specific role in the sandbox of a reliable, but not too good, weapon that you can use at short-to-medium range to take down your opponent's shield before killing them with a quick melee or precision headshot from your other weapon, provided your other weapon is capable of doing so. This generally means that these ARs are fully automatic, best fired in bursts to maintain any level of accuracy when your enemy is more than 10 feet away from you, and tends to have the fastest melee animations in the game to facilitate the "wear down shields, finish off with a melee" gameplay for when your second weapon isn't the best option for finishing off your opponent.
This leads to my problem, a problem I understand is based in a necessary lore/gameplay mismatch to keep up the quality of the series' gameplay. In game, this AR platform is known as the "kinda shit, fairly inaccurate short-to-medium range starter weapons." This is to the degree that its effective range is only about 40 meters. In the lore, however, it is exactly what I wish it could be in gameplay - the default service rifle for the UNSC, with automatic, burst fire, and semi-automatic firing modes, accurate and effective at a range of 500 meters. It just hurts me that a weapon known for its effectiveness and accuracy at basically any range an infantry member will be engaging in has to be nerfed so hard for the gameplay, even though I understand and accept the reasons why.

I beat Splatoon 3: Side Order
Tumblr media
I hate Splatoon multiplayer. I'm not great at it, and it gets me very heated, so I essentially avoid it after the first couple months, I make myself a character, all good to go.
I LOVE Splatoon singleplayer. So so so so so so much. Splatoon is essentially a singleplayer experience for me, and I am ok and content with that. I also love roguelikes! So when the DLC is a roguelike (with best idols as the feature), it's peak. Ignore the fact it took me a while to beat it that's how ADHD works. Anyways, I have a format that I think I've made now, so I'm going to do said format
Gameplay
Roguelike :)))))) I love these! I already said this! There's not much to say other than it certainly is a tower where I get more upgrades and create silly broken builds and I love that! Drone and Lucky Combo was my favorite cause I could just make inkstrike and special and bomb spam and nobody could stand a chance against me, it was super fun. Roller was my favorite weapon for this reason too (I also beat the tower with roller first so that might be part of it). The game def takes a few runs to really get going but like, I can't hold that against it?? That's what the genre is. You start to unlock shit and it starts to ramp up and that's the fun. I got frustrated at times on certain levels, and especially the rigorous ones on earlier runs get very very exhausting (I had to take a lot of breathers cause my hands would get sore), but that's not really like... a bad thing. I expect this genre to make me work. When I was going through with all of the different weapons, it was nice that each felt different enough, especially with the color biases, to make each run for 100% fresh (HA) feeling.
Murch was NOT cooking with his loadout though how the fuck does that dude play irl it took me so much fire speed up chips and changing his whole loadout to make that feel ANY good

Pearl and Marina :)))))))) They're my favorite idols. They're the best ones. I get more of them and even more Marina backstory and I'm not upset about it. Dedf1sh/Acht was a really cool addition and I'm glad they're expanding on characters that were previously just musicians. I found their whole shtick of "Thank god you're here Eight otherwise these two might just start making out in front of me and I can't handle that". It was funny. Order was a very cool force, and even as Smollusk with his stwupid wittle baby voice (DISCLAIMER: I ENJOYED IT) was a neat little character, just a program doing what it's supposed to do.
Story
The best part of this DLC's story is its worldbuilding and continuity from the last DLC expansion from 2. Seeing them acknowledge the Octoling society exodus, AND all of the sanitized people??? That's super cool! Marina showing off more of the skill they talk about constantly with her creating this whole program and working to fight against it is awesome. I appreciate how they tied the gameplay being constant runs into the story, each complete run giving you more and more details on what created Order, why everything is the way it is. Of course, that is also what makes it a little frustrating at the start, because you want to see the story but you have to play the game more to really get it going. It's what happens, so like, whatever, but I do wish for the story's sake alone I could have sped my progress up A LITTLE (the solution is to git gud).
Music
It's fucking Splatoon. Of course the music is peak. I loved the empty sounding songs, the evil printer techno, the super hype club beats while you are dying, it's hype! My favorite song was Parallel Canon :)
Everything Else
Part of the reason I love Splatoon is the ocean theming, I love sea creatures. I thought it was really cool how they made irl dying coral reefs into the theme, combining it with the digital and technology aspect of grayscaling, it's such a cool combination of theming that only Splatoon can do. Speaking of, the attention to detail in this DLC (and really the series as a whole) is INCREDIBLE. The app icons, the programs Marina using being actually recognizable as real programs, the demonstrations showing off character with the silly little anime eyes, there's just so much to look at in every point. The text and writing has also always been a strength of Splatoon, and Side Order just continues to deliver. I loved all the enemy names being musical terms, the puns are always great, the extra dialogue in the menus as you unlock and kill enemies, and even Overlorder's title changing as you do more runs??? It's so cool and it all gives you more motivation to continue to play more. This game is a charming joy with one of the most unique settings I've seen, and the DLC just gives me more of what I love.
10/10. Continued supply of Splatoon and Roguelike goodness with a jelle-ton of charm (I'm funny!)

I played - Armored Core 6 - 2023
"Let slip the hound of war."
I find it deeply funny to have only played the first and latest in a series. To be clear both to anyone reading and myself. I will fill in the gaps. I own AC2 physically so there's a bit of extra incentive.
The funny part of having played the first and latest is the understanding that generally, the newest will be more friendly to a newcomer. To an enormous degree, that is true, but counter to that, is that in the first game, I had an edge of a strong weapon or two that carried me most of the way. Like, there exist configurations that can do that with 6 as well, but without previous knowledge of them, which is a lot more frequent with the older titles.
I ran the gamut of weight classes and leg types, played around with weapons. By no means did I use them all, but they all mostly feel like they have their places. A big clunky loaded with weapons has no place rushing around destroying transport ships. A light jumper is going to have a hard time with some of the AC fights and bosses. There's a portion of a Noah Caldwell-Gervais video where he talks about how the Souls games very much want you to win. Specifically that there is no difficulty slider because how you equip yourself is your difficulty slider. The exact same rings true of Armored Core. Recently I've seen a lot of griping about the Balteus fight. I think the disconnect from Souls to AC is that the line drawn between equipment making an encounter easier is not linear as much as exponential. Magic will make a boss potentially easier in Souls, but the right loadout for your AC will make a boss an absolute breeze. Also that in AC6 especially there is no punishment to remixing your loadout, and it's easier than ever. The resupply points and checkpoints are also extremely forgiving. Especially allowing you to customize your mech mid-mission. I just wish you could also save your current loadout on that screen in case you wanted to return to that configuration later.
I wish I could say something about the music, I'm eager to listen to it on it's own. To see if memories come back as I listen. Because within the game it does not feel memorable.
Light Spoilers in the following paragraph. I think the story as presented is fascinating, I probably could have done more hunting and pecking for it as I went. But I enjoyed it. Everybody has pet names for the hound. Everyone is using you as much as they can. Yes even Ayre. The most interesting thing AC6 does with the story is it's NG+. The first time I hit it the end, credits roll, and was greeted with the "login" screen for Raven (I can't remember what it was called) I was stunned. It was so seamless and immediate and perfect. The way the new mission options slowly reveal themselves is perfect. Teasing out the new story beats along the way. Also the Ice Worm fight is an excellent gimmick, it made my jaw drop the first time my buddy helped out.
It just feels so good to pilot a mech and be the most dangerous thing on the planet. As much as the intro segments for bosses pose them as a threat, you are already more dangerous. Almost universally when you show up it's an "oh shit" moment. Wonderful game.

just a little something i tinkered up with Loadout+ extra editing with CSP.... maybe i might redraw them, maybe not.
all the models, separated below.
Tumblr media
me, being an idiot, rendered Bravado and Champ on a solid png, closing the site before i remembered i could have saved a lot of trouble if i just remembered to make the background invisible. seriously, i wish there was a "save model" kind of feature on this site.
Tumblr media
did you know i rendered that image before i knew how to turn on the rotation wheel? thankfully, from this render onwards, i've been modelling these goobers like a normal person.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i gave Inge a lot of bags because i like bags. i'm still trying to figure out why it needs so many bags though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leader's side shot makes it look like the tsundere it absolutely is.
by the way, do you know i'm very proud of how the arm crossing thing turned out? it was hard figuring how they should be posed, which is why i'm even more sad i can't save these beyond pngs.
Tumblr media
ahh, [name still undecided], do you know how much of a PAIN IN THE MOTHER. FUCKIN. ASS YOU WERE.
Tumblr media
i had decided at some point that my Heavybot was to be posed so that she was slouching over and clip over (? not sure what words to use) Leader.... this would be easy if this was in SFM (uh, easier? SFM is still hard) because it's a matter of where you put the models and perspective and blah, blah...
i spent like, a few days posing the model-> exporting the image-> melding it over the Medibot model to see if they covered up the areas i was aiming for-> procrastinating after failing over and over again... repeat at least 20 times.
Tumblr media
for the hands.... the lasso tool, as usual, was my friend.
(also, is it just me or does the exported image have a slight blue outline on it? i have no idea why that exported like that. i don't give a fuck at this point.)
Loadout has been open for like, an entire week at this point, and i think it's safe to assume that i might not be touching that site for a while, in favor of physically drawing stuff. well, if i don't get off my 3ds anytime soon...

Deathloop Slab Run. Rules and Day #1
Something I've wanted to try since I first played Deathloop was beating the game having only killed enemies using slabs and I never really thought it would be that hard (and to an extent still don't know if it will since I'm writing this as I go along)
Da Rulez
I can only shoot or use regular melee while Havoc is active, I have enemies linked with Nexus, or if I have the Flicker upgrade equipped for Aether
I can only do a melee takedown if Aether is active
I can only use mines by teleporting people onto them with Shift's Swapper upgrade
Other environmental ways of killing someone that don't involve pushing are allowed
Day 1
Deathloop started as it always does, with Julianna stabbing me to death. I then wake up in a beach, adjust my mouse sensitivity because for some reason resetting my progress also reset my settings, break a cutscene (I wish I had a screenshot of this), and shoot some mannequins, and collect the hackamajig: the most useful tool I'll have for a while. I did the rest of the tutorial completely as a pacifist which I was worried wouldn't be possible.
Now for the really hard part, at this point the game actually lets you do what you want and I planned on getting Nexus from Harriet but they do actually force you to try to kill Wenjie at least once so I figured I'd give it a shot, then externalists killed me twice while I was just trying to get to the lab. so I had to try to kill Wenjie with one life, no guns, no melee, and no slabs. I immediately try depressurizing the lab which only kills about 4 of the Wenjies but I manage to lure a few more into the main lab and suffocate them there before I hack and activate all the turrets in the area and let them deal with it. the rest die pretty quickly once I deploy the turrets, except for the one on the roof of the blue building, for some reason the turret took forever to kill her but I did manage to kill all the Wenjies without actually killing any myself.
Now with the power of infusion I go to Karl's Bay in the morning to kill Harriet and take her Nexus slab, two issues arose here, the turret I brought with me was destroyed and without it I have no way of killing Harriet since I can't push her into the gas because I'm not allowed to without Karnesis. And second, Julianna invaded me, this was going to be a problem if it happened consistently. I was in offline mode so it was just an AI but still AI Julianna's can be difficult without loadout restrictions. I might turn this off later idk. Anyway I died trying to kill Harriet.
Now where do I go from here? I could try to kill Charlie but Shift isn't going to be all that useful, I can also pretty easily kill Aleksis with the grinder but I doubt I'd be able to grab Karnesis and escape alive, so I guess I'll try Egor.
Egor is in the complex at night and he's basically the only person there. Another Julianna spawned but I managed to kill Egor with a turret and get away with my first slab other than Reprise, and a silenced Limp 10 that was in Egor's lab. Egor drops Aether which not only allows me to turn invisible, thanks to the rules I can also do stealth takedowns now which honestly any way to kill anything myself is going to be incredibly useful.
I go back to Karl's Bay and kill Harriet for the Nexus slab and also read her computer to finish her lead. Nexus will link enemies together, so when I deal damage to one all of them take damage. I can finally use guns now, as long as there are at least 2 enemies linked with Nexus.
So by the end of my first session I had the agility to do stealth takedowns and shoot people. Though I still suspect some challenge will come

23. sated?
adjective - fully satisfied; overfilled with or overexposed to something to the point of being unable to bear more; glutted, as with food, pleasure, etc.
verb - the simple past tense and past participle of sate—satisfy (a desire or an appetite) to the full.
-
in the art room, ambient noises stack neatly on top of each other like layers in a folder—the scribble of pencils and the passing of notes, furious erasing, and mercy, conversations upon conversations—the chaos threatening to break their focus on today's model at any moment. linus wishes desperately that they hadn't left their earbuds at home.
for once the disjointed bits of conversation all have something in common: weapons, weapons, weapons. squidforce or some higher-up from the research lab recently published a full-length novel of an announcement, all about weapons and safety regulations and how the specials would be overturned. every loadout would be completely scrapped and reimagined with new tricks.
lin has already decided it's best not to share their own opinion about the matter.
several desks away, the voice of a particularly distraught turfer rings out in a pitch that soars just above everyone else's: unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable, he argues to someone on his left, that they would take the kraken off the roster. that shit is awesome. that thing's a staple of turf war and there's, like, no way someone could get hurt from it. am i wrong? it's so fucked that they'd try to tell us there's something wrong with my favorite special, and i use it all the time (he roars, swiping flecks of bubbling ink off of his shoulder) and nothing remotely bad's even happened to me.
linus' grip on their charcoal snaps it in half.
probably, most of the class is just ignoring the jock, but for the first time in an hour lin can't pick up on their surroundings anymore. it's just them and this asshole separated by three desks' worth of space. great zapfish, if they could peel apart their scalp like an orange and give him a front-row seat into their brain, they would—or, even better, put him in the middle of an elementary school kickball game or a test he didn't study for, or one of his beloved turf matches, armed with nothing but his animal instincts and this ancient threat display he's so happy to defend.
krakening was a glorified deimatic display to throw off predators. restraint is a gift he doesn't understand, and certainly lacks. if linus hadn't learned that themself, they would be on their way to the hospital with several of their classmates instead of sitting motionless in front of their work.
asshole supreme turns his head, and for a split second, he catches their eyes. lin sees their own blown-out pupils in his face.
—and then, from an assailant behind them, a crushed post-it note sails in a gorgeous arc, nailing him on the forehead with expert precision. he flinches, cursing, and the spell breaks; the tension diminishes and their vision clears, their rage like a caged animal sated with a slab of meat. noise returns to the classroom.
curious as they are about the source of the projectile, lin decides it's safer to keep their eyes on their work for now, lest their movement attract too much attention. (under the table, their thumb drafts a text to their sister.)
they're grateful, silently, for the kindness of a jokester.

D2 Season of the Seraph thoughts
Gameplay:
Was not expecting a second hive focused season this expansion
Really glad for the autofire option being a setting now. Topical that I injured my mousehand this week, but also I notice my fingers & wrists start to hurt if I play for hours with high fire rate weapons
I enjoy the Battlegrounds challenge at +5 at first but I quickly started to hate blueberries who don’t bring champ mods or refuse to run for the laser core. The best runs were with people I like or making a LFG post for Legend where I could vet people were bringing mods.
I enjoy seeing Mars back again as a battleground and that the Braytech facilities on Europa are finally getting used as a map
I finally got everything together and made some 100 resilience loadouts, and it's a night and day difference with survivability.
Revision 0 quest: it was enjoyable to go in with no guide right up until the floor tile puzzle. I was thinking its a shame we only get 1 season with this mission so looking forward to the exotic mission rotator.
There are a lot of server problems this season, the Christmas server problems were an unintentional API bug, but sucks for my friends who did a master activity then got a server error and no credit. I have a new years resolution to play more games that aren’t D2, and so that was the perfect time.
The robo-dog is so cute, I appreciate a friend describing helping me get the orbs as “taking me to the pound to get a puppy”
Once again busy during the Dawning I didn’t finish the last challenge of sit in gambit or crucible matches. I’d never bother to gild it, get 2k kills with a dawning weapon, lmao what a waste of time
GM power level reduction is great, the grind to get to power level so you can do GMs when they come out is a huge burnout factor for me and others.
Very glad Bungie enabled all the mods and literally made me more interested in playing the next month. It was gatekeeping for no reason to make players buy mods a few at a time that were sold on random days, some mods I had been trying to get for more than a year. It’s basically playing a different game if you have a current meta build that relies heavily on one or two specific mods.
I got a good lorely splendor roll and it really is easy mode with Titan
Fucking finally got Touch of Malice after 55 Oryx clears
Grateful to everyone loss farming in IB so much bungie buffed the xp gained for the second week.
Glad they buffed drop rate from wellspring, wish it had been like this the whole time since I had 0 wellspring weapons crafted. The poor red border droprate, and the seasonal challenges meant I was always busy doing something else
I’m glad Bungie made a lot of announcements about when the final seasonal event would be, and it wasn’t during the last week. I also appreciate that they said they will go back to being more public about seasonal info.
I really enjoyed the difficulty of the last mission, it felt like the right amount of challenge.
However the legend system that scales based on fireteam size means it's awful to run the finale or Seraph Shield with 3 people; numerically a person is better off running it solo especially with the solo operator mod. I ran the missions a few times to help someone out, and the increased health and limited revives made a 2 person team feel punishing in a way that doesn't encourage helping casual or less skilled players.
Finishing the season needing to craft a lot of the guns, once again the red boarder and seasonal playlist loop is a grind way past the point of enjoyment. It's better with a partial knockout system but drops for finished patterns still happen way too often and the seasonal activity gives such low energy vs how much is needed to focus and time spent. I finished the season without crafting the ikelos shotgun or the linear fusion, and I’m so burnt out on the loop that I just don’t care.
The crucible rep changes are fucking awful if you place low in comp like me (Bronze tier). On bonus weeks its changed from 2x to 1.5x, and so the strategy seems to reward players for playing every week and more rewards for being good, so if you’re on the wrong end of the cycle where you only play crucible on bonus weeks because you don’t enjoy it or are bad then the slow rank ups just mean I want to play it even less. It was a shorter time doing a full reset of a gambit rank than half a crucible reset, especially because if you don’t get enough kills in a match the game gives you 0 credit.
The crucible rep changes are a shame because with the matchmaking changes I really enjoy the 3v3 comp. I feel like I’m playing others at my level and its the most enjoyable Destiny 2 pvp I’ve ever played
I tried doing some solo dungeons with current meta loadouts, and there's a noticeable difficulty change between Duality & Spire vs the older ones. What I realized is I don't enjoy soloing dungeons; jumping puzzles are a lot more punishing, some bosses take noticably more DPS phases, overall it's an exercise of patience I'm bad at.
Week 1:
For real I thought the braytech security frames were going to shoot me in the back in the intro mission. I wasn’t expecting Xivu Arath to the antagonist this season since we already had a Hive season
Osiris’ grandiose personal introduction to counter Clovis’ ego, him and Clovis butting heads all season is going to be fun to see
Mara’s back in her D1 pirate clothes? She and Crow are the only one who gets clothes change in this game
That the scorn were exhumed locally, nice to know every major battleground is a zombie surge waiting to happen
Lots of sad feelings that Eramis’ former house are being raised as scorn as punishment
I’ve been hoping to get Mara as a character with a storyline that isn’t about her and Uldren/Crow, looking forward to her being a supporting character and tying into the Bray storyline
The Archimedes mission was nice, playing it solo felt challenging
I just didn’t play all weekend when DiM and the companion app were down. Really shows how heavily the community relies on these third party services, and the dedication and work the people running them do is laudable
Other Weeks:
So glad to Elsie back and interacting with Ana. its just Bray family drama this season I love it. Osiris pseudo counts considering Felwinter was his mentor
Clovis thinking its a magnanimous offer in his private guard answerable only to him. Just like how Calus wanted to possess us as a shadow.
I hope that if he does pull the heavily implied doublecross that its not because of Darkness corruption or the Witness but just because he’s a shithead trillionaire
In-universe if my guardian passed Ana’s former spot on Mars and it still had piles of guns I would take some with me
Revision 0 quest: we “surrender” to Eramis, there's so much untapped potential there for Eramis fans. Also wow Eramis sounds so depressed and its understandable, all those of her house that we killed being brought back as scorn.
I love that they reused areas from DSC, it makes sense storywise Bray facilites used the same design and I’m sure helped with developing such an elaborate quest. Going up to space and seeing Earth and the Trsveler was really special
Think its cool Fenchurch (agent of the Hidden) gives us the weapon and not Clovis. We’ve seen more of the Hidden this year than before, I’d love to see a season of the Hidden and see Aunor ingame
Cutscene: based of Bungie to include MLK as part of things Ana taught Rasputin, especially since they usually shy away from recent historical people
Clovis has the anime villian glasses glare, he did fucked up science to his daughter(s) and assuredly unethical animal experimentation to the dog. Clovis is Shou Tucker.
Ana says “why didn’t you ever tell me you studied under Fellwinter” when it’s like a well known fact, IN UNIVERSE. Cool to get more of Osiris reflecting on himself as a novice and his relationship with the Iron Lords.
Aww there are some Cabal dogs there. Meme of Saladin running Old Friend’s Senior Dog Sanctuary complete with the infamous last post. Shame it won’t let me climb to the top
Fun Clovis cutscene, once again recontextualize that legend of “rasputin shot the traveler”
So Clovis is just now on Europa?? As the verison in the exomind was a copy-dublicate vs a copy-cut, then wasn’t he vulnerable to Xivu-Arath the whole time? Also in a way Ana did kill her grandfather, if you consider the copy to be a separate version since if might have different memories
The dialogue in battlegrounds is top notch where it has just a bit of friction between different parties. Then there’s the direct personal attack lines of “Clovis Bray. Your progeny have surpassed you. Your services are no longer required. We appreciate your understanding”. Rasputin responding with corpo speak
Mara is back in her Queen clothes, dev bias that shes the only one who gets 2 outfits in a season /s
The new choral sounding music in the HELM is great, apparently a warmind track remix
The Rasputin and Osiris radio message was fun, in absence of Saladin being pissed at Rasputin for killing Felwinter we get Osiris being pissed when Raputin speaks with Felwinter’s memories
Mixed feelings on week 7 story where they started foreshadowing Rasputin’s death heavily, in week 7 its a question of “are we doomed to repeat the past” but it somehow becomes “humanity destiny 2 main story has no need for a warmind, Rasputin is too dangerous to live we gotta put him down like Old Yeller”
the ending cutscene was a lot of nice looking CGI and yet again the Tower view of the Traveler changes before a new expansion. Great to see all the different characters and the tower feels weird now without the Traveler.
My more cynical take a week later and after thinking about how it was 2+ years between a Rasputin and Ana storyline, Rasputin’s death felt more like they were trying to trim the cast of characters than a killing a character to raise the stakes. Clovis Bray can copy himself and be fine after being deleted, and Rasputin has all these extra data cores he doesn’t feel fully dead, just “dead” enough for some angst but not so dead he can’t be brought back as the plot demands.
Do agree with the post that for a season where the grand finale is Rasputin sacrificing himself, this wasn’t really his season in that so many other characters got a lot of screentime, focus, and build up
Anyway finally Eramis has crossed the line into poor little meow meow
I like how Eramis has been talking to us personal a lot this season. Her lines on Seraph Station where she considered it a rematch of the Beyond Light fight, her lines in the battlegrounds where she says “polish your finest armor. I’ll see you again” and the other lines she has talks about trust and despair
Kind of a shame how at the end of the season Clovis kind of faded out of the story with no real resolution.
Dungeon:
45 second revive timers in a jumping puzzle fucking suck
Ah the rasputin classical music I love it
Eramis on the collectables? Once again we’re just too late to see her. “We have no need of gods” interesting how much effort Eramis spends trying to get us to hate the Traveler
Osiris: “maybe this will restore Ikora’s faith in me” plz Osiris just talk to Ikora she’s concerned that you have no ghost and there are 0 OSHA safety regs here
I like the trace the wire mechanic a LOT more than nightmare zone bell mechanic
The super low Cowboy hat dungeon drop percentage is bullshit if it was done intentionally. It's disrespectful to players' time to make the Hunter one more rare than the other classes. I finished the season with 0 hats.
The dungeon especially in the last boss feels like its meant to be played with 100 resilience.

Cheat and Steal to Lie and Survive
...whoops, maybe i should get back to being a writeblr.
Summary: Lying is wrong. Lying for thousands, if not tens of thousands of years is wrong. Lying about the very planet’s main enemy being immortal to your secret shadow government is wrong. Lying about the literal Divine Summoning Superweapon split into four is wrong. Lying about the four women with vast elemental powers who double as living keys and security checks to said Doomsday Device. Lying about the current Humanity being its second attempt is wrong. ...Unless said lies bring about one (confirmed) century of Peace and Progress. Unless said lies transforms a Kingdom built on mining and emotional slavery into a technological powerhouse capable of producing Artifical Life that is recognized as a ‘woman’ by the Magic that governs the Living Key Maidens. But that is a wrong well trampled, but this is a story about two wrongs making a right. Or what if Spinel, Wonder Woman, and Princess Celestia/Doomguy, 2B, and the Avatar Cycle joined the Wizard of Remnant in his eternal quest.
AN: The Chosen get full context of the Wizard’s Life and Task. to prevent any of the “Oh but they didn’t understand what they were signing up for” like Ozma did when the Lightbro started the reincarnation chain. It's what Ozpin attempted to do for Pyrrha before Cinder fucked everything up. So why wouldn’t his magic do the same for these folks? Also everyone has gotten their universe’s Perfect End. so no lingering threads to tie them down to their reality. I don’t know what End Game equipment the Chosen have so i’m just going to give them a random grab bag of stuff. Aka i’m watching a LP of Nier Automata and IDK if Doom Eternal is out when i’m writing. But yes Doom Slayer is from after Doom Eternal, plz whack if I get their loadouts all wrong.
Also Magic Using Androids from another Setting and then Vol 7 finale when Penny gets the Winter Maiden? Hell yes I am crossing them over. ...Nier: Automata Androids can use magic right? The Pod Programs and the Skill OS Chips. Shockwave? Autoheal? Those are the magic thingamabobs right? Unless I'm completely mistaking Nier for another setting where Androids are fighting robots after humanity goes extinct and both sides (or at least the androids) can use magic.
Edit: also I spent so long trying to write this chapter that Doom Eternal Released. WHELP. Wish I could say the quality is worth the wait. Still have many sections of this to write. :( edit 2: yeah no i’ve decided i’m not doing eight different perspectives in one chapter, so i’ma delete those sections i haven’t written for. Sorry *insert fandoms here* for not portraying why said characters joined Ozma.
Chapter 1: Let’s Bend the Rules Shall We?
“You Can’t.” With those soul crushing words Jinn The Spirit of Knowledge vanished in a puff of blue smoke.
The man another reality knows as The Inquisitor wept with his head bowed. Both the man with a body and the small group of people nestled in his soul failed to notice the Green Magic of Time and Space lashing around them.
“All of our work for the past millennia has been for nought!” Ozma 2.0 The False God banged his fist against a mental desk.
“Come now, with our help humanity and the faunus have civilizations that have lasted more than a decade at most.” Pleaded the Inventor of The Long Memory.
“That is until one of Salem’s worshippers destroys all of our progress or gains one of the Maidens.” The Inquisitor shot back.
“OKAY! So I should have made sure that the Maidens would pass onto optimistic folk if not return to us upon those darlins death.” Snarked Hermit of the Maidens.
As the men and women who collectively answer to Ozma descented into fercious bickering, their magic dissolved any idiotic Grimm who dared attack them in their moment of weakness. The magic shredded the environment around them into sand, forming what will be known Millennia in the future as the harshest (and origin) spot of the Vacuo Desert. But the environment wasn’t the only thing that was shredded by their magic, large gashes in the fabric of reality revealed alien skylines and starscapes. Not even itself was safe from the magic, the Wizard’s hold on Space Magics strained under the weight of bridging universes and could only bring three people and their equipment to his reality before dissipating. Only to be regained in a much weaker form in the lifetime known as The Last King of Vale.
The magic seeped through the gashes in the form of green mist reaching out to anyone who would help.
The Path of Wisdom.
Of the various oddities and reality warping events Diana Prince saw in her long life as Wonder Woman, One of the Founders of the Justice Society of America during the World Wars and again a founder of the Justice League circa 1995, a green mist that felt of another reality spilling out of a gash in her living room was certainly in her top 500 weirdest things. Then it started playing a Hero’s lifetime beginning when the man rescued a princess from a tower through a woman in the depths of her inherited depression casting a scrying spell into the past to see the events the Immortal wasn’t there to witness and ended when a Genie gave a depressing answer.
Diana breathed in deeply before exhaling and rubbing her nose. Diana got up when the message repeated itself and got out her Amazon Armor while waiting for her call to go through to the Watchtower.
“Batman here.” said the voice.
“Hey Bruce, could you get the Interdimensional Voyage forms? A portal opened in my living room and I'm going to hop through it.” Diana pulled on her torso armor as Batman sighed and clicked some keys.
“Estimated time in our reality vs theirs?”
“Unknown and Until I achieve World Peace when there’s a Literal Immortal Queen hellbent on destroying everything with a massive army of creatures that control 98% of the landmass who are attracted to negative emotions.” Diana shuffled on her greaves.
“Okay then, it's one of those Voyages. Tech Level? Magic Level and percentage of magic users?”
“Tech Level is-” Diana squinted at the portal. “Pre-Gunpowder. Magic Level is Street-City block level. Percentage is all of them and Six Individuals”
Diana could feel Batman’s glower of disapproval from the phone. “Tsk. Any Background info?”
“There once was a man named Ozma, he was a humble Hero going from fight to disaster saving the day. Until he rescued a woman named Salem from a tower and fell in love. But where the blades and beasts of the world failed, a single sickness prevailed. Then Salem went insane with grief and bargained with the Brother gods, tricking them causing infighting between the two Brothers. So they cursed her with immortality until she got some therapy. But Salem was now angry at the Gods and so united the world against them, so the younger Brother exterminated humanity and shattered the moon as he left. Taking humanity’s magic with him.
Then the older brother proposed Ozma with achieving World Peace while the younger God’s attack creatures ran rampant. Warning Ozma to not seek Salem because she’s evil now. So of course being Lovestruck the first thing Ozma did after Reincarnating was seeking Salem out. Upon finding her, Ozma fell in love once more and made the first nation larger than a mere city state in Humanity's history. Salem convinced him to take care of domestic affairs while she dealt with the external ones.
Over the years their family expanded with four daughters, whom the seasons are named after. Then Ozma found out that his wife was a genocidal tyrant and tried to flee with his daughters, only for Salem to catch them and cause a fight during which said daughters died. Then Salem reformed from ash in the ruins of their castle, kicked Ozma onto his back, stood on one of his wounds and ranted about freedom from the gods before interrupting Ozma when he tried to defend himself by burning him to death.
An thus started a long and painful cycle of death and rebirth for Ozma. After his second death, Ozma fell into a deep depression that lasted for a millenia.

Wonder Woman flew out of the portal and landed near the Immortal. She gently walked up behind the collapsed man and hugged him, ignoring his sudden flinch and pulled him so that Ozma leaned against her. Hooves clopping echoed across the clearing as Princess Celestia walked out of her portal. Celestia had saddlebags on her back that would have been straining the seams if not for their space expansion enchantments.
The squeak of rubber stretching reached everyone’s ears as Spinel propelled herself into the clearing.
The Path of Murder Blending.
The Last Demon fell before the man known only as the Doom Slayer. There were no more areas of Hell to suddenly open like a Video Game Sequel coming out. No alien invasions. No idiots trying to tap hell as a power source. No more demons/whatever the fuck preaching about ‘ignorant humans not being able to understand traditions’ None of that stupidity, there was merely a man fueled by anger finally calming down from tearing Hell several new holes per day. The Doom Slayer sat down against a wall and finally wept for all those he had lost.
Then a handful of hours later when Doom pulled himself up out of his pity party. An emerald gash appeared unleashing a green mist lighting up with a story as old as time. Quiet literally considering humanity went extinct and was then reborn. But the ancient spark of wrath that propelled him for over thousands of eons was reignited when Doom spotted the Grimm. Sure these demons weren’t red and couldn’t bribe people into selling their souls, but they dissolved on death and sought out negative emotions. Those were demons if Doom had ever seen one, and he had an Eternal Crusade against all demons. No Matter the Form, No Matter the Era, and No Matter the Dimension.
The fact that there was an Eternally Reincarnating Wizard tasked with achieving World Peace, was a mere bonus.

The Doom Slayer stepped out of the swirling magic and onto the crunchy sand surrounding the despairing Reincarnator. Doom’s head was on a swivel as he approached the immortal. Before noticing another patch of magic deepens it’s green coloration. Doom leveled his shotgun at the forming portal as 2B and her Pods jogged out of the magic.
2B was thankful for the green magical wall around her VIP, making it much easier to secure a perimeter when there was an actual perimeter. Then she saw the large man in green armor (what is with this universe and green anyways?) that had a shoulder cannon and a chainsaw-bayonet hybrid under one arm. Who was currently pointing a shotgun at her face.
“Judging by your armament your one of the ‘Chosen’ from another reality?” 2B asked.
The green armored man nodded lowering his shotgun into an at rest pose.
==========
Doom breathed in when the last Grimm was killed, focusing his mental energies at shackling his unending wrath. Containing the rage behind a wall of unyielding will so that the grimm wouldn’t constantly swarm the Slayer and his newfound allies.
