the thing i think about jack drake's homophobia is that i do genuinely think that his love for tim would eventually outweigh it? like. he's never going to not be homophobic or completely comfortable with it (and truthfully, i don't think he's necessarily the type to be virulently homophobic or kick tim out, he's probably more the "i think they should have rights and i'm totally okay with gay marriage but seeing it makes me uncomfortable and while it's okay for other people the fact that it's my son is a little upsetting" type), but tim is still his son and would continue to be his son regardless. like it would probably be complicated and definitely would not be perfect acceptance. jack would say and think a lot of very unkind and bigoted things at first, would probably stick his foot in his mouth (constantly at first, less so as the years go by) and tim would yell at him/they'd get into fights/they'd eventually apologize to each other, and eventually he would learn to keep his mouth shut and accept it for the most part because regardless, tim is still his son. and tim wouldn't be super happy because it's not the best support but he also loves his dad more than he cares about that and would probably eventually make peace with that's just how his dad is and is going to continue to be and they'd settle into the new status quo.
i do think that despite jack's homophobia he would 100% go to bat for his son wrt how the dowds feel about tim dating bernard and would immensely dislike them as a result. "how dare you think my son isn't good enough for your son, your son is downright lucky my son is even giving him the time of day." and all that. he'd probably be very sour with them. and he'd probably end up liking kon more than bernard because, you know. jack likes superheroes. and he never liked those dowds.

I saw your tags on Buck in a coma. Why do you not like it?
it’s not that i don’t like the idea - again, i enjoy some character whump as much as the next person and i think all speculation is fun; the more unhinged, the better -, but i don’t think that’s where the show should take/is realistically taking buck’s storyline.
in this first half of the season, buck has been reverting to self-destroying habits - specifically with the sperm donation, but even more generally with this ‘i have to hop on every single train passing by or i might regret it’ attitude, aka his ‘yes man’ era -. because. where is he in all of this? where is the Agency of evan buckley in creating what he wants, recognizing what he’s already built and, most importantly, leaving open the possibility to just say no? the mere fact that he’s depriving himself of the ‘no’ option in relation to something - anything - leaves him with even less power.
now, since this is a show and everything is thought out AND is a plot device, i see no reason to put buck in a coma aside from showing that people care about him (something we as the audience already know and buck wouldn’t be able to appreciate because in a coma). it could maybe be interpreted as a life-changing moment, realization-inducing even, but that’s not how buck works. after major negative events with buck at their center (the broken leg, the tsunami, the blood clot, the daniel revelation, witnessing the shooting), he tends to cling even more to his autodestructive tendencies. bad things coming his way confirm to him that bad things are what he should expect - what he deserves, even. and not only that, now he’s also saying ‘yes’ to some of them, whenever he should have a choice and doesn’t anymore, and somehow expects a different outcome.
buck needs to work on himself, not to physically recover once. again. he needs to face the consequences of his poor choices, without any setback or delay, so that he can learn that to action corresponds reaction - both positively and negatively - because to need, too, should correspond solution and not just more craving.
this being said, i’ve read and will continue to read coma!buck fics and coma!buck meta. i thoroughly enjoyed most of them even if i didn’t agree with their premises completely - in the case of metas oc, fic can and should do what fic desires -.

So Venus is my favorite planet in the solar system - everything about it is just so weird.
Tumblr media
It has this extraordinarily dense atmosphere that by all accounts shouldn't exist - Venus is close enough to the sun (and therefore hot enough) that the atmosphere should have literally evaporated away, just like Mercury's. We think Earth manages to keep its atmosphere by virtue of our magnetic field, but Venus doesn't even have that going for it. While Venus is probably volcanically active, it definitely doesn't have an internal magnetic dynamo, so whatever form of volcanism it has going on is very different from ours. And, it spins backwards! For some reason!!
But, for as many mysteries as Venus has, the United States really hasn't spent much time investigating it. The Soviet Union, on the other hand, sent no less than 16 probes to Venus between 1961 and 1984 as part of the Venera program - most of them looked like this!
Tumblr media
The Soviet Union had a very different approach to space than the United States. NASA missions are typically extremely risk averse, and the spacecraft we launch are generally very expensive one-offs that have only one chance to succeed or fail.
It's lead to some really amazing science, but to put it into perspective, the Mars Opportunity rover only had to survive on Mars for 90 days for the mission to be declared a complete success. That thing lasted 15 years. I love the Opportunity rover as much as any self-respecting NASA engineer, but how much extra time and money did we spend that we didn't technically "need" to for it to last 60x longer than required?
Anyway, all to say, the Soviet Union took a more incremental approach, where failures were far less devastating. The Venera 9 through 14 probes were designed to land on the surface of Venus, and survive long enough to take a picture with two cameras - not an easy task, but a fairly straightforward goal compared to NASA standards. They had…mixed results.
Venera 9 managed to take a picture with one camera, but the other one's lens cap didn't deploy.
Venera 10 also managed to take a picture with one camera, but again the other lens cap didn't deploy.
Venera 11 took no pictures - neither lens cap deployed this time.
Venera 12 also took no pictures - because again, neither lens cap deployed.
Lotta problems with lens caps.
For Venera 13 and 14, in addition to the cameras they sent a device to sample the Venusian "soil". Upon landing, the arm was supposed to swing down and analyze the surface it touched - it was a simple mechanism that couldn't be re-deployed or adjusted after the first go.
This time, both lens caps FINALLY ejected perfectly, and we were treated to these marvelous, eerie pictures of the Venus landscape:
Tumblr media
However, when the Venera 14 soil sampler arm deployed, instead of sampling the Venus surface, it managed to swing down and land perfectly on….an ejected lens cap.

When a person belonging to a minority group says or does something bad, you are, of course, free to criticize them. But it still does not give you the right to be a bigot. Noah Schnapp sharing stupid, careless, and uninformed geopolitical opinions deserves to be called out, but it does not mean that you suddenly get to tell him that he should have been gassed by Hitler or killed by anti-Jewish hate groups or terrorists — both things I've read on Twitter and on Tumblr. It does not justify you calling him homophobic or antisemitic slurs.
"But he deserves it!" you argue. First of all, why do you think so? What makes it okay for any person to be given the green signal to get called slurs, or have people advocate for them to get hatecrimed? And more importantly, you are only signaling to your Jewish friends that you are actually capable of antisemitism. Same thing goes with your queer friends, or any friends belonging to a minority group. When you justify one form of bigotry, even to just one person — you justify all forms of bigotry.
So if you find yourself doing any of these, ask yourself why it's so easy to slip into bigoted rhetoric instead of simply focusing your criticism on what a person did/said.

I don't know what to do. What's the end goal of all of this? Am I really just supposed to keep chasing and consuming power wherever I find it? To what end? And will it actually ever be enough?

Water 7 was like specifically engineered to hit on every single sensitive spot Usopp has and honestly he almost under-reacted with how nuts the circumstances were for the moment that he snapped:
1. They just came off a fight where Aokiji knocked them around like it was nothing, where he had this realization:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So he’s going in already feeling super inadequate, more than he usually does (which is a lot already).
2. Relatedly, up to this point fixing the Merry was his job because they didn’t have a shipwright yet. Her being unfixable probably felt, to him, like a personal failing because he was the one in charge of fixing her
3. The Merry was most like another crew member to him because he’s the one who worked on her most, AND he was the only one who saw her klabautermann at this point
4. The big elephant in the room here is that Kaya was the one who gave them Merry. So, you know, he’s attached to her most for this reason too
5. There’s also the fact that this probably hit on the very specific trauma of his mother’s death, because she also got sick enough that everyone deemed her unsavable.
6. On top of all that, it also hit on his trauma regarding his dad and abandonment: he doesn’t want to repeat that and feel like he abandoned a crew member who needed him.
7. Speaking of abandonment, seeing a situation where, in his mind, the crew leaves someone behind who is now deemed useless probably touched on a lot of his own fears about his place on his crew and own perceived usefulness
8. He had also just been brutally beaten twice on the same day and is pretty badly injured, compounding both feelings of usefulness and aligning him with the merry in his mind in terms of physical state.
9. He had also just lost the money they needed to fix the Merry, again compounding the feeling that he was useless AND he was responsible for the Merry not being fixable
10. He woke up to the crew, who had already processed the news, telling him about it AND that a decision had been made, which made him feel like it was a him vs them thing
There’s probably more I think but yes, it is completely unsurprising that he fell apart so spectacularly

the thing is. i don't particularly love the whole steph sends assassins after tim at the end of robin thing. but it is fascinating to me as one of those things that dc's like "okay, this did happen because we need it to have happened (it's pretty important as far as setting up steph and tim to move on to red robin & batgirl, it's extremely important that steph makes a mistake that causes harm so that tim is upset with her & so there's a justifiable reason steph can't be spoiler anymore & to set the stage for their dynamic in the reborn era & because her doing this to tim is also important to maintain tim's self-isolation at the start of red robin because if he had a girlfriend to depend on who he wasn't mad at he wouldn't be quite so self-destructive), but at the same time we desperately need to pretend like it did not happen (because if it did, and steph sent assassins after tim, he's entirely justified in being mad at her & also if she did that dick would probably feel about steph the way he feels about jean-paul valley)"

I hate how so many therians/otherkins of tumblr often say stuff like 'those weird tiktok therians' . It's damaging for the community. Dam it, I'm on tumblr. Just because a therian/otherkin is on tt doesn't instantly mean they're faking, and think that therianthropy/ Otherkinity is just quads and having a connection to an animal. I get that tt is a problem, with quadrobists calling themselves therians, and not even bothering to explain what therianthropy is, if they even know. But it's ridiculous how divided we are. I've even seen this sort of stuff on reddit. I don't like it. Idrk if anyone disagrees, I know my own opinions, and I know that I have a point. I don't care if my opinions unpopular, but it needs to be said.

Listen. Do I understand people who ship Roy/Jamie/Keeley? Sure. The dynamic has potential. The chemistry is there definitely. All three of these people are disaster!bisexuals even as Keeley is the only canonic confirmed queer person between the three.
But…..
I don’t know. I just don’t buy it. I do not buy that Keeley, freshly on her own and determined to dominate in her career is willing or able to be a part of a poly relationship that is going to demand SO MUCH emotional labor.
I love my girl Keeley, she’s an absolutely fantastic character. But, I dunno, is she the most emotionally intelligent of the three? Sure. Is she the most emotionally mature? I don’t know, I think that might go to Jamie in all honesty. Roy is definitely the most stunted of the three.
And Jamie and Roy being equally as clingy and desperate and needy as each other, in ways that complement so beautifully it’s almost perfect, doesn’t leave a lot of space for Keeley to emotionally connect with them.
And she doesn’t seem to want to?
Like, she has the opportunity to get back with either one of them…multiple times! And she doesn’t? She loves them, both of them, but chooses to just be by herself. Chooses what she needs and wants in that moment because I think it’s kind of clear that neither Jamie nor Roy can truly give her that?
I LOVED Roy and Keeley at first, but the pure cruelty of lamenting how clingy he was when he was going through a massive depressive episode broke my heart. (Maybe my own mental health struggles make me extra sensitive to this)
But I just don’t buy that Keeley, free spirit and business woman, wants to settle down with these two, no matter how much she may love them.
