feels like so much of 2023 for taylor was unlearning central themes in the lakes. answering “take me to the lakes where all the poets (!) went to die” with “actually I can feel myself dying and it’s not worth it and I don’t want or need to retreat to my place of death yet”. answering “I don’t belong and my beloved neither do you” with “no, I do belong and I want to exist in the world!” and on & on & on. I don’t want to bath in insurmountable grief anymore, or find perfect places to cry, or let what should be over stay burrowed under my skin!!!

one of the reasons i think we have the bolter on TTPD is because she hates matty for being the who ran away. she’s always been the bolter, but he turned it around and didn’t give her the chance to do that because he left her before she even realized the fucked up game he was playing with her.

“Talked me under the table” still has an aura of bullshit, but there’s like a plausible deniability there that the person doing the talking believes their own story. They may be painting a picture bigger than either of them which is why she’s so enraptured by it and falls for it.
“Shit-talked me under the table” is deliberately scathing. The person doing the talking knows they’re spouting bullshit lies and she falls for it hook, line and sinker. They’re putting her on for sport. (It could also be, like, trash talking, but I don’t think it’s quite that given the next line.)
Happy Friday have we talked about “you talked me under the table” as in she was drunk on his promises while he remained unaffected, like when you say that someone is drinking you under the table as in they hold their liquor so seemingly well that you can’t keep up with them you’re so inebriated while they seem completely unaffected????
