an explosive repetition

===
The embers of the campfire burn low during the yearly meeting of Emperors. People cheer to the newest of their number; the Codfather had been late, but he’d arrived, panting and covered in leaves and apologizing. They’d talked in quiet tones about things only people who were the emperors of their own nations could discuss, about the year to come, about the power afforded to them, and, while not about politics—the campfire meeting had never truly been for politics—they discussed what to expect from each other on an interpersonal level. Something changes in a person, when the life of a nation is tied to them. That’s what being an emperor means, even if these days only about half of them go by ‘emperor’ and only just about as many inherited their positions; even now, Fwhip remembers the day he was given the leadership title over his sister, and the way the sudden weight of the entire nation settled over his shoulders, and he knew what being an emperor was.
He feels a bit like that now, actually, except also significantly more on fire.
Not literally. He is no longer literally on fire. But, like, it’s sort of hard to forget the feeling of being on fire, even briefly. It lingers under his skin. That hadn’t happened when he’d gone from Fwhip to Count Fwhip. If that had involved being set on fire he probably would have tried harder to refuse at the time instead of being all like ‘oh hey I am no longer the unwanted second son but a vital part of this nation’, because being on fire sucks, and he doesn’t recommend it to anyone.
Pretending he is not on fire also sucks. If it weren’t for the fact he looked across the campfire, saw Jimmy appear, and saw him shaking in a very particular way too, he probably wouldn’t have been able to hide how on-fire he was. He certainly wouldn’t have been able to navigate the conversations that are normally held at a campfire meeting. He’s pretty sure he barely navigated them as it was. He had been too busy giving Jimmy baffled looks at every free moment, trying to figure out why he was technically no longer literally on fire, and freaking out about how these were all the conversations he’d had last year, actually, and he sort of remembered them, and hey maybe he only has to pay half attention anyway because if they’re the same conversations as last year, there won’t be anything important for him to know, because he already knows it, and oh man what had he gotten himself into now, and—
The point is that during their secretive magic meeting and all that, Fwhip had mostly been on fire. Is he thinking straight? He’s not thinking straight.
He waits until basically everyone has left (Pixlriffs hasn’t yet, but the Copper King has a tendency to stick around at these things and Fwhip doesn’t think he’ll get rid of him) before rounding on Jimmy.
“You,” he says.
“Me? What do you mean me? This is your fault!” Jimmy says back.
“If you hadn’t had your stupid idea of making peace or whatever…”
“Oh, well excuse me, but it was your machine that blew up. I’m still on fire!” Jimmy pauses. “Metaphorically! I’m metaphorically on fire!”
“I mean, it’s not a metaphor when it feels a lot like actual fire, that’s not what a metaphor is I think?” Fwhip says.
“Are you sure?” Jimmy asks.
“I mean, I think so?” Fwhip says.
They both pause for a moment to contemplate this. Jimmy shrugs. “That’s not important!” he decides at last. “The point is. You set us on fire! You blew us up! You blew us up so hard we time traveled!”
“And would that have happened if I’d just been using salmon power? No! No, it has to be your stupid cod that did it!” Fwhip says.
“Well I think it was your stupid face!” Jimmy says. Fwhip gasps.
“You take that back,” he says.
“Make me!” Fwhip says.
“Um,” Pixlriffs says, staring wide-eyed at the two of them. “You know, I’m just going to leave now. And leave you to… your time travel? No wonder I’ve had a headache for the past week.”
Fwhip and Jimmy stare at him.
“I’m very good at pretending I don’t know the future, don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone,” Pixlriffs says, and before Fwhip can interrogate him on that, he darts into the woods. It’s a little awkward, with none of the mysterious grace a statement like that should have, and all the gangly arms and legs the Copper King has had for ages. For a man with so much mystery around him, he’s always been a little too silly, a little too awkward, and a little too approachable. Fwhip’s always wondered if it’s a trap. Fwhip wonders if he’s actually going to not tell anyone. Fwhip…
Fwhip turns back to Jimmy and discovers Jimmy staring after the Copper King, a wistful, fond, and exhausted expression on his face. It’s so out of place with the yelling, and the time travel, and with Fwhip’s knowledge that Jimmy’s the pettiest emperor on the entire continent. It makes Fwhip’s stomach hurt.
It’s quiet.
“Sorry,” Jimmy says. “Sorry. I haven’t seen him in a long time. He was never really the same after—I haven’t seen him in a while. I should go have tea with him. There’s a fancy word for that where he’s from but I never remember it. He’s always been nice about that.”
“Oh,” Fwhip says.
“He looks less tired,” Jimmy says.
“Yeah, well you look kind of like shit,” Fwhip says.
Jimmy smiles, low and sad. “Yeah, well, you look even more—more bad. When did you last sleep?”
Fwhip doesn’t answer.
Jimmy shakes his head. “Anyway, enough of that. I’m supposed to be yelling at you about the time travel. Did you really blow us up so badly we went back in time?”
“Do you have a better answer?”
“I mean, I don’t know! I don’t want to be dead! I’m already on fire.”
Fwhip thinks of rumors about the Copper King and omens. He swallows. “Yeah, you know what, I’ll buy it’s time travel. Time travel! Back to the beginning of all of this! Just when things were finally starting to really work out for everyone!”
“Yeah,” Jimmy says. “Just when.”
They both sit down in front of the embers of the fire, almost at the same moment. It’s surprisingly cold now that the fire has mostly died. It shouldn’t be cold at the same time as being on fire, but maybe it’s the absence of any new fire to warm them with. Maybe it’s the fact that he’d been sitting, trying to have a conversation, getting used to the fire. He wouldn’t know. It seems distinctly like the kind of thing that Gem would know, except Gem has only just ascended to officially being Head Wizard, and she hadn’t had a war with a demon yet to really dig into the archives. She might not know. She might not tell him. He understands if she doesn’t. She’d always been the more responsible sibling in most ways that matter, and…
“Fuck,” Fwhip says. “Fuck, I blew us up and we’re back in time.”
“Stop swearing,” Jimmy says. “Besides, it was my fault, wasn’t it? Council told me not to do it and everything. I’m a failure like that.”
“Only one of us has got failure in the name, buddy.”
“Hah. Yeah, true, your parents suck.”
“It’s supposed to be for good luck. Shows what the Grimlands know.”
He shudders. He’s still on fire. He doesn’t know how to stop being on fire. He thinks maybe it’s all in his head, except for the fact Jimmy’s on fire too. It just—it had happened so fast. One moment, he and Jimmy had been shaking hands, and announcing they were burying the hatchet, and unveiling the salmon-cod reactor. It had been a good moment. Sure, there had been no way he and Jimmy would have stopped disagreeing, but they were committing to no more wars. To attempting to talk. To attempting peace. Fwhip hadn’t really wanted to hurt Jimmy for months anyway, and they’d both known it. Too many other things had happened, and even if the salmon and cod had stood between them before, the salmon-cod reactor would prove that with their powers together, they could be something more.
He’d turned to shake Jimmy’s hand one more time, the papers sign.
Then, the world had exploded.
It had hurt. He’s still on fire now, but it doesn’t hurt like that momentary flash of light, the twinned look of horror in Jimmy’s eyes, the realization something had gone horribly wrong, and then the world exploding around him. Someone had screamed; Fwhip still isn’t certain if that had been him. Fwhip had reached, a moment late, for the emergency stop. He’s not sure why, in hindsight. Some ingrained instinct to try to hit that button whenever something went wrong, maybe.
He’d been on fire. The world had been on fire. The earth had shaken. Jimmy had said something.
Then, the world exploded again, proving that instinct to hit the emergency stop a moment too late had been right after all, and Fwhip had woken up just outside of the campfire meeting. He went through it on autopilot.
“So, uh,” Jimmy starts. “We time traveled, huh?”
“We sure did,” agrees Fwhip.
“What do we do now? Because like, if we change stuff, do we vanish and die? I don’t want to vanish and die because I changed the time stream, man,” Jimmy says, wringing his hands nervously. His gills flare in and out on his neck.
“Pixlriffs literally already knows we time traveled.”
“And that was your fault, wasn’t it?”
“Mine? How was it my fault? You were arguing with me!”
“No, you were arguing with me!”
“Well, he’s your friend, so it’s your fault. I barely know the guy in this time.” Fwhip pauses. “I mean, I knew him later, when we were all sort of on the same side. He’s fun! Had some great ideas about how to handle corruption, liked explosions well enough, the whole works. But right now, he’s your friend, not mine.”
Jimmy pauses and frowns. “Oh, right. Hey, wait, that doesn’t make it my fault!”
“I think it does.”
“Look, I don’t know what to do with time travel either. Maybe Pixlriffs won’t say anything? I mean, he’ll tease us about it, but he doesn’t normally say anything about his whole… you know, right? It’s fine. It’s fine!”
“Yeah, maybe. Maybe that won’t change much,” Fwhip concedes.
Finally, the burning is starting to fade as the sun sets. Fwhip realizes he doesn’t know what that means. Maybe, he thinks grimly, he’d been burning because he’d set the Grimlands ablaze, too, but there isn’t enough Grimlands left to burn. Maybe it’s just time, though. Maybe it’s nothing quite so terrible. Besides, it’s good, the not being on fire. Very good, that. He doesn’t want to be on fire. Being on fire is… bad.
Lots of things are bad, actually. Maybe he doesn’t feel like he’s burning because he’s no longer at risk of erasing himself from existence? Or, worse—because he already is being erased from existence.
“Gods, Jimmy, I might actually kill you for this one,” Fwhip says. “I’m at least going to do something you hate.”
“So, good news, you’re supposed to steal my music disc about now,” Jimmy says.
“…really?”
“Did—did you not even remember that’s why this started?” Jimmy asks incredulously.
“I don’t know man, I don’t care about a stupid shitty music disc right now!”
“I can’t believe you. I can’t believe I was making peace with you. I can’t believe I was going to kiss you and everything. The nerve!”
“Listen, I thought it was a religious conflict! The cod and salmon thing! You know, inherent irreconcilable differences and all that!” Fwhip says defensively. He pauses. He goes back. “What was that last bit?”
“What, your nerve?”
“No, the part about—you were going to kiss me?”
Jimmy goes very, very still. “Ignore that,” Jimmy says. “Ignore it. Ignore it! It doesn’t matter right now. Besides, we’re enemies again now, right?”
“Right,” Fwhip says, feeling strangely disappointed. “I mean, I would have kissed you back. Even when we were enemies.”
“…really?” Jimmy says.
“I mean, yeah, I like people who might stab me,” Fwhip says.
“I don’t know how to take that,” Jimmy says.
“Yeah, it’s a problem.”
“I can imagine.”
It’s awkward now. Now that Fwhip isn’t on fire, it’s—it’s awkward between them. Fwhip doesn’t know where he stands. He should probably mock Jimmy about having a crush, but it’s a little late to do that, on account of having admitted to having a crush himself. It feels like the kind of thing they should ignore at the moment, really, given that…
“Anyway, I guess I’m stealing a music disk and maybe your codfather hat?” Fwhip says.
“I’m going to have to act like killing the dragon is a good idea,” Jimmy says, vaguely sick-sounding.
“Relax, it’ll be fun for me to get to yell at you.”
“Sure.”
They stare at each other for a while. The thing is, really, that Fwhip doesn’t want to die.
“I mean, it can’t be that much harder to do the same way a second time, right?” Jimmy says, trying to hype himself up. “I’ve already done it once! It’s like, I already know how to do all of this for sure! Yeah! It can’t—it can’t be that bad. Can I kiss you though? Since you know anyway. It won’t be changing anything, promise, I’ve just—since I was going to do it. To seal the alliance. Our secret alliance. Can we at least have one of those? So when—when it’s all my fault that a demon’s here and all—”
“That really wasn’t your fault,” Fwhip says.
“Please?” Jimmy says.
Fwhip considers it. Fwhip shrugs. “Yeah. Secret alliance, until we get the real one in the end. Secret alliance to preserve the future.”
Jimmy sniffles. “Yeah, that.”
They both awkwardly lean in. Fwhip has never kissed Jimmy before; he’d always imagined it would taste kind of slimy. It doesn’t, although it does taste a little like fish, which makes Fwhip sort of want to laugh hysterically. Instead, he just pulls in deeper. Suddenly, they’re both kissing with the desperation of the two only people in the whole world; they might as well be. They’re the only ones who know. They’re the only ones who are here. They’re the only ones who are about to have to do—to do everything. A second time. Then, they’re kissing with tongue, and Fwhip nearly pushes Jimmy to the ground trying to press his entire body into Jimmy’s. One of them might be crying; it might even be Fwhip. He’s on fire again, he thinks. He’s not sure what to do. It’s all gone. It’s all gone. They’re starting over, hurtling towards a happy ending interrupted by the worst mistake imaginable, teetering on an edge with only each other, and they’d only just learned to stand next to each other without threats like a week ago. Fwhip doesn’t know what to do. Fwhip doesn’t know what to do. So he just keeps going, the two of them practically clawing at each other trying to dig into the skin of someone who at least is trapped with them, and—
Jimmy, suddenly, as though spooked, pushes Fwhip away. They stand there panting for a moment. Fwhip tries to bring his head back down to reality.
“Why do you have gunpowder on your mouth?” Jimmy asks, almost like he’s saying something else.
Fwhip really does get hysterical, then. “Oh, wow, okay, secret alliance. Okay, we’re doing this. Okay. Okay! You taste like fish.”
“I am a fish.”
“Not anymore!” Fwhip says, and he cackles. “You aren’t—you aren’t anymore, remember? You and Lizzie were all—cursed? Anti-cursed? Shit, do you even know you're siblings yet?”
“Oh, seas,” Jimmy says.
“Yeah. Yeah!”
“I don’t—Fwhip, I don’t know if I can do this,” Jimmy says.
“Tough shit,” Fwhip says. “Because I can’t do it either.”
They stand there staring at each other for a while.
“But what happens if we screw it up?” Jimmy asks. “What happens if—even if changing it’s okay, until we blew ourselves up, it was—”
“It was good,” whispers Fwhip. “It was good. We were happy. It was okay. It was good.”
“What happens if we never get that back?”
Neither Fwhip nor Jimmy can answer it. They just keep standing there by the campfire, waiting for an answer that won’t come. Instead, the minutes keep slipping away, and the weight of everything that’s just been undone gets heavier, and heavier, and heavier, until Fwhip would prefer the fire.
“Okay,” Jimmy says. “Okay. I have—I still have a nation to run.”
“Yeah, so do—so do I. Here. A personal—this is a personal number. Only Gem has it. If you call using it—”
“Okay. Yeah. Secret alliance,” agrees Jimmy. “We kissed on it and everything, that makes it unbreakable, I think. I don’t know. I haven’t kissed many people. Does this make us—the only real couple I know is Joel and Lizzie, really, and I’m not sure we should model this off of Joel, as much as I love him.”
“Jimmy, if we make it to the end of this without going insane, I will propose to you, and we’ll have a wedding to make it official. We can upstage Joel and Lizzie and everything. I don’t care what’s actually a good idea,” Fwhip says.
“You wouldn’t,” Jimmy says.
“You’re one to talk,” Fwhip says.
“Thank you,” Jimmy says, and it’s the single most desperate thing Fwhip has ever heard the other emperor say. He never wants to hear it again.
“It’s—we’re in it together, man. I’m not that selfish,” Fwhip says.
Jimmy rubs his eyes. “Good to know we’re both learning that about ourselves.”
“Can we stay here a little longer?” Fwhip says. “Just until the embers run out.”
“Yeah,” Jimmy says.
They do. They sit next to each other. At some point, Fwhip grabs Jimmy’s hand. He stares as the fire burns down. Neither of them say much else. He doesn’t know if that’s for the better or not. Maybe they should talk more. Maybe they should try to work out what they should do, or what a secret alliance even looks like. Maybe they should argue again, because that’s fun, but—
Fwhip doesn’t know. This works, at least.
They can figure it out tomorrow. Yeah. That seems like a decision that won’t have consequences at all.
“Hey, Jimmy—” he says, and then stops. “Never mind.”
“You’re weird,” Jimmy says. “I can’t believe I time traveled with you.”
“Ditto, man.”
They can figure it out tomorrow.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @hiddenxplaces-blog & @the-ravening 😘
How many works do you have on ao3? at the moment? 192
What's your total ao3 word count? 668,102
What fandoms do you write for? currently it's all The Walking Dead all the time but in recent memory we're looking at The Boys (AND The Boys RPF 😅) and MCU (winterbones specifically)
Top five fics by kudos: stoking at the fire for you (The Witcher) sing them songs of me (The Witcher, geraskier) just one more (The Witcher, geraskier) steady, steady (The Witcher, geraskier) unexpected, not unwelcome (TFATWS, winterbaron)
Do you respond to comments? i swear I SWEAR i try 🙃 (i'm so good at catching up and then Febuwhump happens and i fall behind trying to stay on top of the monthly challenge AND THEN by like November i've caught up again) (also i have the TERRIBLE tendency to stop responding once i'm out of a fandom BUT I SWEAR i read them all and sob quietly to myself on days where things are exhausting so please take this as a huge I LOVE YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤️)
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? brb hitting the hurt no comfort tag and figuring out what the 'worst' one was… you know what, it was we'll be a fine line (Top Gun, roosmav) - still one of my fave fics tbh, it covers the time between the first movie and where we pick up with Rooster being PISSED at Mav for pulling his papers
OR hell, if i ever could stomach to edit it, i think elbow deep (The Walking Dead, cegan) would count for this - it's almost finished i swear, just need to walk away from it after every paragraph rn
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? for who? i'd say 'till the end of the line where Bucky finally leaves Steve because they're just incompatible after all that time and trauma
Do you get hate on fics? i've gotten a bit but that's just the nature of writing non-con and/ or hurt no comfort 😅
Do you write smut? do i write anything else is the actual question haha
Craziest crossover: i… i don't crossover unless you count RPF where the actors are playing their characters to bang (i assume this doesn't count but it's as close as i get)
Have you ever had a fic stolen? yep! hilariously it was my Watcher Entertainment RPF stuff
Have you ever had a fic translated? maybe? i'm honestly not sure
Have you ever co-written a fic before? i have! a few times! honourable mentions are hold you by the edges (Watcher, limadej) with @sequencefairy (which i still reread often tbh) and keep on keepin' on (Gotham, harvey/jim) with @ponderosa121 (also a SOLID reread)
All time favorite ship? this is unfair - it absolutely depends on the brainrot at any give time. if you're asking me RIGHT NOW it's cegan, no question but like…. three months ago? who knows
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will? too many to count - there's a few i think about occasionally as like a nice memory of things that could have been but the thing I WISH i would get to finish is my RP with @sparklingbinjuice which i still hope we fall back into sometimes (but both of our attention is elsewhere at the moment)
What are your writing strengths? smut and run-on sentences 😂
What are your writing weaknesses? plot and punctuation (who needs a period when you have ; and -)
Thoughts on dialogue in another language? i used to be like FUCK IT WE SPEAK RUSSIAN but i cringe when i look back on those times (and have flashbacks to writing Japanese into Gundam Wing fic in highschool) which is to say, to each their own but if i can't speak it fluently or have a friend who does who can edit, i try not to include it in my own work
First fandom you wrote in? technically it was a sweet little Luke/OC insert from Star Wars circa, ohhhhh uh, early 90s but the first fandom i fell into a spiral about is going to be Gundam Wing FOR SURE (gimme that 1x5 please and thank you, strawberries are so sweet you know?)
Favorite fic you've written? this is also unfair - it's the unnamed one in my head that i rant to Abby about while i'm drunk at 4am thanks
zero pressure tagging: @sparklingbinjuice @duchessonfire @dcmonblood @unlikelymilliner (miss you ❤️) @sequencefairy

20 questions for fic writers
Thanks for the tag @mulderscully ❤️
How many works do you have on ao3?
My profile says 56, but considering 32 of those are one-shots that have been gathered in Feels Like Home, I feel like the real answer is 24.
What's your total ao3 word count? 457K - but again, 32 of my works count twice, some of them three times (those that are both in LWTD and FLH), so the actual number is less. Feels Like Home is 223K words though, so more than that 💀
What fandoms do you write for?
Just Lucifer (but I have been toying with the idea of writing something for RWRB, if inspiration should spark at some point)
Top five fics by kudos:
Living with the Devil (isn't always Hell on Earth)
Feels Like Home
Mummy's Workplace: The Guided Tour
Take Me With You
Spouses Without Benefits
Do you respond to comments?
Yes! The nice ones, at least. I don't respond to Chloe or Eve hate 😇
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hmm, I don't know, maybe Going Through Hell? I think it ends on a hopeful note though. I generally end angst on a hopeful note. Or write plain fluff. I do have a drabble in my drafts that is very angsty and does not end with hope though (Sox can confirm that).
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I don't feel like I've written a fic with an ending yet 💀 I mean, there was Living with the Devil but it technically isn't finished because it continues in Feels Like Home. But Feels Like Home will definitely end happily.
Do you get hate on fics?
Not really, no. I felt rather unpopular when I introduced Eve in Feels Like Home though. And people aren't shy of hating on Eve and Chloe as characters, meanwhile Lucifer is always just a "poor baby" or a "silly man." I've had people comment that they like me and Sox' version of Chloe in Feels Like Home more than they like her on the show, which I guess is supposed to be a compliment? But I don't think I want that kind of compliment from people who think Chloe is a bitch on the show tbh...
Do you write smut?
Yes. Very much so.
Craziest crossover:
I've never written a cross-over.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not in this fandom, no. At least not as far as I know.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! I have, actually. Someone translated Rejected at the Pearly Gates to Russian, but I lost the link ☹️
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Hahaha yeah. I have (:
Like 90% of what I've written since I met Sox has been co-written.
All time favorite ship?
Deckerstar, my one and only.
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I've got a Copenhagen AU sketched out that I reeaaallyyy want to write, but I have to finish Feels Like Home before I fully throw myself into that project. Also, I'm not sure many people but me would want to read it lol
What are your writing strengths?
Hmm, I think I'm good at writing dialogue? And understanding the psychology of the characters and their relationships.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Having English as my foreign language 🙃 No, but seriously Not Knowing Words is the most frustrating part of writing for me. And not just not knowing the words, but also not knowing how to string them together.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
Depends on the language. Naturally, I could write as much Danish dialogue in as I'd like, but very, very few would understand it. I could do German too, with a bit of help from a dictionary. And I've watched enough Norwegian and Swedish TV to be able to write dialogue in those as well. I have written Lucifer dirty-talking in French, but I barely wrote any of that myself; a kind soul translated it for me. Generally, I think it's fun to incorporate other languages!
First fandom you wrote in?
Twilight. When I was 10 😅
Favorite fic you've written?
Feels Like Home, my beloved.
tagging @my-crazy-awesome-sox, @superlc529, @moonatoms, @mightbeawriter, @wendeckerstart and anyone else who wants to do it!

20 questions for fic writers
tagged by @silurisanguine so let's see...
1) How many works do you have on AO3
65 (across multiple accounts)
2) What's your total AO3 word count?
819,102 (across multiple accounts) (also some of those are collab fics so I can't take full credit)
3) What fandoms do you write for?
Lately not much, but previously - in reverse chronological order; Arcane, Oxenfree, Dead By Daylight, We Know the Devil, Assassin's Creed (Syndicate), Dishonored, Life With Derek, HP
4) Top five fics by kudos?
A Helping Hand, Scandal, Denial, Brute, Night Blooming Flowers
5) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
In the past I'd say "i reply to every comment" but that's somewhat dependent on my mental state and there's a bunch I haven't replied to lately, but I do try to (eventually) reply to every single comment. I love comments more than anything tbh, which is probably why my top stats tend to be comments, cause i LOVE LOVE LOVE having conversations with readers and getting to fangirl with them ahaha
6) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I mean I don't have that many finished multichap fics. If we're talking pre-ao3 I had a super duper angsty hp fic i wrote in like elementary or middle school lmao
7) What’s the fic you write with the happiest ending?
Again, I don't have that many finished multichap fics, and most of my fics have a happy or bittersweet ending. Maybe So It Goes?
8) Do you get hate on fics?
I'll be honest, I feel like I probably have but I do not remember it. I mean, I know I get blocked by people who hate some of my ships (jonalex, emsider, reader ships etc), but if I've ever received hate (which I am like 90% sure I have) I do not remember what it was for. Seriously, hate just goes in one ear out the other I do not recall what it was for because I literally do not care enough to remember lol
9) Do you write smut?
For sure.
10) Do you write crossovers?
Not really? Not lately at least, though I've done some aus inspired by other works.
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of, but I don't really check anywhere
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
Someone asked me if they could translate something and said go for it, but I don't know where that is.
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Several. I do a lot of rp fics.
14) What’s your all-time favourite ship?
I cannot choose. Lots of ships with my OCs, but i guess for canon-only, maybe jonalex? But i'm indecisive, I don't want to pick one lmao
15) What’s the WIP you hope to finish but doubt you ever will?
Oof. Too many. I'm so bad at finishing things. Unwilling Survivor and Holy Spirits and A Helping Hand are all big projects that I want to finish but I have no idea how that will happen.
16) What are your writing strengths?
I'm so bad at analyzing my own writings tbh. Maybe visceral emotion? Not sure, but I do love yearning and anxiety and metaphor.
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
Oh, finishing things. 100%.
18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I prefer to write around using a translator ('they said in [x language]' or 'it sounded something along the lines of [meaning of translated words] but their [language] wasn't great' etc) so I don't have to worry about sounding garbled, or I ask for help
19) First fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter in 3rd grade lmao
20) Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
I cannot possibly choose. I love anything with Sam in it (so all of the au stuff I've done with her, as well as Unwilling Survivor), I love my jonalex stuff (including Lucky in Love, which I think is such a niche au of an au that I tagged it as original fiction as well lmao), and of course A Helping Hand has to be in there, and might as well include the fae au for emsider and the xreader for acs, and any jonalex i wrote with hammie, and and and-- basically everything lmao, I can't pick favorites.
tagging: @h4mm132l1c3 @artabria @reddgiant @cognacandlilac @artemis-crimson and anyone else that wants to do it, I feel like a lot of people have done it already and i tried to pick people from a variety of fandoms

oooh for the fic ask game: 11, 16, 27, 65? :3
tysm for the ask !!! ^_^ good luck with the numbers i gave you !
11. Link your three favorite fics right now
i may be biased towards this because it was a gift fic from one of my favourite authors + mutuals ^_^ but... Beheld Through the Lens of Love by Nail_gun is literally the only offputting ryomina fic i would ever need if i had to pick one ... trans ryomina is always a win ! --- my second pick is 100% Edge Detection by AcceleratedStall, which horrifically only has around 50 hits !!! everyone stop reading this post and go read that right now !!!!!!!!! THE fuuka fic of the season tbh .. go read their other p3 fics while you're at it too! their jin & minato fic Down In This Hole is totally the runner-up here i love it so much ! --- finally ... last but definitely not least ... a glittering house of cards by dirtbagtrashcat . any fic that delves into ryoji's state of mind during november and december has instantly captured my heart, and i am waiting with baited breath for the third chapter !! get up to date with this now and join my eternal suffering waiting ! ^_^
16. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them?
i haven't had much time to write recently .. not even for mochizuki monday T_T !!! so my list of wips and ideas is vast and currently abandoned .. [imagine a tumbleweed here ..] but i'm currently swaddling both a christmasy post-seal ryomina fic and a ken & ryoji brotherly (like in p3:twm ^_^) fic close to me .. maybe they'll come out one of these days !!! i hope .. >_<
27. What is your most and least favorite part of writing?
hmm .. i love writing little interactions .. little twitches of movement between dialogue ! even if the dialogue itself isn't the best .. it's important to me that the reader knows, say, the character twists his hands in his lap; his eyesight unfocuses; or how his fingers scrabble against the table - the kind of motions you don't usually think about ! but i always have so much trouble coming back to a fic to write more of it ... everything has to be done in 1-2 sessions or there's a 90% chance it'll never get posted >_< it's why i only post, like, 1500 word oneshots :P
65. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project
i know i'm the persona 3 poster and persona 3 writer and persona 3 fan .. but i'm so excited for persona 3 reload to come out and supplement us with so many more scenes to build upon and twist into whatever we like ^_^ !! especially the new male mini-links ! shinjiro's gonna take minato out for a meal .. i'll make sure of it !!!! at least in my fic if not in the game @_@ ...
if you made it this far - thanx for reading <3 !!!

IT IS I, 🧊ANON, SCREAMING IN MY PILLOW
JUST READ THE 5 + 1 FIC AFTER RECOVERING FROM A COLD AND I AM GIGGLING LIKE A DUMBASS I LOVE IT SO MUCH
Tbh I would be the EXACT SAME as reader because I cannot for the life of me pick up on social cues ESPECIALLY with someone as hot as Kalpas😭
AND IM NGL, BRIAN AND EMILE CAUGHT ME SO OFF GUARD LMAO But hey be who you areee (he is 100% gay I don't make the rules)
KALPAS COUNTING ON HIS FINGERS IS SO RELATABLE, WE LOVE DUMB FIERY MAN <3
When he grabbed reader by the shoulder I kept thinking of those dramatic kdramas with the glowy effect and the scene repeating 47 times YKWIM?
This fic will live in my mind rent free for the next 3 weeks thank you for the food and ty werewolf kalpas anon for requesting this masterpiece of an idea!!
(WHAT THE HELLL KIND OF BULLSHI- EXCINTMINT MY ASS BOY)
HIIIIII 🧊ANON!!! WELCOME BACK! I HOPE YOU'RE FEELING BETTER!! 🧡🧡
I'm exactly the same, kalpas could flat out tell me he's in love and I would just overanalyze it and stand there squinting for a solid minute before going "neat! ANYWAY-"
BRIAN AND EMILE WERE AN ACCIDENT I just felt bad for being mean to Brian and Emile deserved a bf for putting up with Kalpas lol Emile is at the very least bi, you cannot convince me this man isn't going 👀👀 to half the guys on base at all times I both make the rules and enforce them, gay Emile is my son now I'm kidding kind of
KALPAS COUNTING ON HIS FINGERS IS LIKE ONE OF THE TOP 10 ER LOUNGE DIALOGUES and I constantly think about it and it's a problem lol also Kalpas grabbing reader's shoulder but they do that thing in 90s anime where they just show the same frame for actually a full minute with no sound or anything before suddenly moving????
I'm so glad you liked it!!! also hopefully I'll have new pieces up by the end of the week so you wont have to go so long!!
speaking of which, this is already way too long but I wanted to say that the next two requests are literally "soft kalpas" and "put us in the fucking angst zone" so I've been trying to get both done so they balance out, but it's obviously taken me a hot minute. I go back to school tomorrow, though classes don't start for another few days so I'm hoping to have both up by then! if I don't have the angst done, the soft kalpas is done (kind of, you'll see) and I'll put that up by Friday regardless of how far along the angst is!!

yesss hello ~
89. sarcastic narrators: entertaining or overdone?
VERY entertaining unless it absolutely isn't. i always feel like saying "i like it when it's done well" is a cop out because i like most things that are done well but this is really really one of those things. for me there has to be at least some degree of actual light-heartedness to the sarcasm, and tbh a fair amount of sincerity of any tone behind it for it to be tolerable, but if has those things and it seems like the writer knows how to use the sarcasm artfully, then i'm all in. some of my favorite narration voices of all time have been sarcastic shits. that said though it can also put me off of something entirely so yknow it's delicate imo lol
90. do you notice your own voice in your writing style?
oh yes. yeah i have an underlying style that to me feels pretty distinctive. it varies by narrator, since i like to switch my style up to fit the pov character, but like...i'm aware mostly of how i sound by default. sometime someone will point out something that i didn't realize was part of my style, but i think typically i would know what to look for if i had to pick my writing style out of a line up.
(unless this question means "do you write how you talk?" in which case...kind of? i think my writing style is how i talk but more polished, with more fancy little stuff and antiquated constructions thrown in and less slang)
94. do you prefer dialogue or description?
description. i don't like writing dialogue :p i can only write dialogue in the shower because i have to be in a context with no distractions where i can "hear" it and i have to out loud say the things the characters are saying in order to feel like i have a solid handle on it — which is super inconvenient because i can't take my laptop into the shower with me and i usually forget most of it by the time i'm in front of the keyboard. there are select few character dyads whose dialogue i can actually write "live," but i can't include anything but the dialogue while i'm doing it, even for them. i don't always write dialogue in a way i'm confident of as a result because it's too obnoxious doing it the "good" way much of the time. i love description though! so fun. i get to descriptive sections and go "oh thank god i can Indulge and Luxuriate for a while" lol

Hey I loved your fic 🥺 Do you have any writing advice for how you wrote Arthur? I just love your style in general too. I want to improve but I feel like no one likes my work.
Aww hey there anon! Thank you for your kind words. First of all, I want to emphasize that you shouldn't beat yourself up about not being a popular writer. I myself struggle with it, as I never get big numbers on my fics (believe it or not, my fics tend to stay in the 10-50 kudos range and under 2000 hits). Yet you admire my writing... hmm it's almost as if there's no correlation between technique and popularity lol! jkjkjk but for real, there really isn't. So don't beat yourself up. Write for yourself. Write something you love. That's the first step, because if you're doing it just for clout, then the "fan" part of fanfiction loses all meaning.
As for how I wrote Arthur, that's very flattering of you to say, but tbh I think emulating a character's voice comes with constant exposure to the character. I spent over 200 hours on RDR2 (I know some of you have spent WAY more than that). Really listening to the structure of his sentences goes a long way. Pay attention to the contractions of his slang, or the contexts for when he shows off his witticism. For example, I noticed he's often sarcastic with religious figures (sister calderon and the turtle cult people), so I likewise tried to extend that to Arthur by having him say something irreverent about the pastor in my fic. Basically, if you can identify when and how he says something, you're 90% of the way there.
Now, relatedly, I do think the best way you can improve your writing is to challenge yourself into reading difficult books. That is the best way to learn to write, and consciously soaking up the technique of the giants on whose shoulders you are standing on will do wonders not only for the flow of your diction but the way you can play with vocabulary (because imo, playing with words and forming cinematic images are something I LOVE to do, and my inspos often do that in their prose).
My biggest inspiration is Edith Wharton. Her work captures environmental tableaus well, and the wit of her characters inform how I think of dialogue. Character dialogue is as much about what they don't say as what they do actually say (i.e. do they hide something but say it via body language or gestures?).
That said, try not to overwhelm yourself. Find an author you love, learn from their example, pick apart the language of their work (for syntax, metaphors, etc.). Familiarize yourself with the more technical aspects of writing, in the same way fanartists emphasize learning your "fundamentals." Writing imo is an underappreciated skill, and reading with an eye for analysis likewise takes greater skill. It takes time. Do what you love. Learn from those you love. Everything will fall into place.

what’s your fave work from each of your moots? ;))
Tumblr media
oh, i wanted this ask but also now i am afraid because i have...so much to think about :')) and i have not read nearly as much as i would like to (from moots and non-moots alike) :'))
jackie | @97-liners and @/naptaemed
i gotta do one from each blog
just us and the moon
lonely hearts column
jackie is the queen of rom com, tbh lol the humour is always so natural and so on point. i love everything i have read from her so it's a hard call, but i think these are genuinely two of the best fics i have read ever
zosia | @jungwooisms
listen, i know i talk about it all the time and she probably wishes i would read something else instead of harping on about it but it's hwarang :'))
its just so beautifully detailed and well fleshed out and it pulls you into a super immersive world. you get invested in the storyline and the people and never want it to end
fei | @doiefy
at dawn
:)))
like i really only have one possible choice despite the fact that everything she writes is just overall so, so well written. i am a slut for crime thrillers. and vampires. and crime thrillers. and vampires. and i am in it. and did i mention that its a very well laid out crime thriller?
nik | @lunena
breathe easier
i havent given this a proper review yet (a tragedy and a crime) but its so lovely. so beautiful. so amazing. she writes just beautiful like...soft, romantic spaces. idk how to describe it but its just the overall atmosphere is just..oof. god words are not my friend tonight khfdk
bronwyn | @d-nghy-ck
pearlescent
smut is not my genre, just by and large and you will see that again in the next rec but this is just so beautiful and impactful. the writing flows so well, and the imagery is so strong. hard not to love.
lily | @husbandhoshi
new moot and just in general a new blog/writer that i started follow maybe a week or so ago??? but !
sick day nsfw
i don't read a lot of smut in general, i especially read even less pwp. but this is immaculate. i am very very tired of the same old constant hard dom tropes and the same formula for a smut fic over and over. this is not that. it's soft. it's an established relationship. it's funny and sweet and romantic and ofc soonyoung is so well characterised ah :')) i am in love
javi | @itsapapisongo
be seeing you
okay, so it hasn't been continued yet, but i was so in love with where the story was going and javi always writes such strong, strong characters. so much snark and this gritty sort of attitude and i live for it. it suited the concept and the collab theme so well, too. dialogue always on point, as well
sab | @sichengtual
90's Love
man, everything sab writes is just so beautiful, and so masterfully written, it was really hard to choose but this one just sits in my mind so often. it's so short, and so singular, but just the perfect swell of emotions ah :')) i just love it
manx | @kabira
she doesn't really write anymore, on here at least that i know of but i started reading her stuff forever ago and its so good-
by hook or by cross (nsfw, but the smut is just at the end)
read this before i even really got into seventeen, but i loved it so much. its just overall so well written and i really appreciate the setting and the dynamics between the characters
i need to go on a reading binge now and catch up with everyone / everyone else jkhfdjsahf

Pretending to hate each other au Alex/Willie
Ngl, I had the hardest time figuring out why they would ever have to pretend to hate each other and this is as close as I got them to it. Hope you like it, darling!
*
Willie loved getting hugged by his boyfriend but when Alex practically flung himself into his arms, clinging so tightly to him that breathing would become an issue soon, and started mumbling “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry” into his hair, he knew something was up.
It took a long moment for him to persuade Alex to let go and tell him what had happened and when he saw the anxiety in his face, he had to force himself not to crush Alex back against him and hold him in his arms until all his worries faded away, breathing be damned.
Alex’s fingers fiddled with the frayed hem of his jeans jacket, plucking at threads while he flicked his hair out of his face and started talking, eyes never quite meeting Willie’s.
“Luke was going on about "Reckless” again. Apparently he had heard some girls at school talking about how pretty you guys are and he was all in a huff and said some means things about Bobby and the rest of your band and Reggie jumped onto the bandwagon, too, declaring that Luke is way prettier than all of you, and then they looked at me, all expectantly, and I panicked and ... and ... I said your hair is stupid!”
Willie burst out into giggles.

Since @jenleigh1 asked about it, I thought I could post some pictures of the physical copy of my Metal Gear Solid story Dear Dave.
It's a post MGS4 fic of Hal dealing with his grief over losing Snake by writing to him. First emails, then letters in a journal. Because of picture limits and spoilers, I'm gonna post the rest of the pics in the reblog.
Behind the Scenes info under the cut if you're interested why this fic exists.

Fic Writer Review
Ok, I could’ve sworn I was tagged by @aleksandrachaev but now the notification has disappeared? Idk what the hellsite is up to by making me think I have notifications, but I’m going to do this anyway 😂 😂 . I haven’t looked too closely at my stats and everything in a while, so this will be fun!
1. how many works do you have on AO3?
77. But please don’t ask about the number of WIPs I have  😅
2. what’s your total AO3 word count?
208,442. Huh. I thought it would be more? Oh well!
3. how many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Three. One random one shot for each ER and T100. The rest are all AoS!
Actually, wait. Since Kat says (and I agree whole heartedly!) that Black Widow is it’s own fandom, then make that 4! I wrote a one shot of an alternate end credit scene for that movie!
4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos? (I’m not including the ones I have cowritten)
Everything’s Changing 372 Kudos-  Talk about a wild idea I had watching a movie from the 90s. Anywayyyy. Philinda and Philindaisy moments. Lots of fluff. (which if you know me, you know I do more angst these days.  😂)
We’ve Come a Long Way from Where We Began 265 kudos - Aww! The first thing I ever wrote! Lots of May and Daisy moments and they work t reunite their team. (But also I now refuse to read this because I can see how much my writing has improved since then, and now I get mad at previous me 😂)
A Bad *Axe* Birthday 177 Kudos- May gives Daisy an axe for her birthday, and teaches her to throw it. Because to quote Rosa Diaz from B99 “What kind of woman doesn’t have an axe?”
I Took You for Granted 150 Kudos- TBH, I’m surprised this one was this high? It’s not one of the better things I’ve written tbh. But it’s May and Daisy, in season 7, and God knows they needed more scenes together, so maybe that’s why this one is on the list.
What Did We Do To Deserve This 137 Kudos- Oooooooh. *sigh* Early season 5 Philinda feels for when I still had hope for my OTP.
5. do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Ummmm YES! You kind person took the time to leave me a comment! I will let you know my appreciation for that! No comment is too big or too small! You can literally comment a <3 and I will respond because you made my day! That said, I usually respond like once a month to all the comments that have been building up in my inbox
6. what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
*cackles* Ummmm. I have several, but I think the angstiest would be The Unimaginable. Poor May just lost everyone in this fic.
OR! the pieces of my heart are missing you because I just kill all of my favorites.
OR! the moon and the stars are nothing without you because Philindaaaa feeeeels
I’m Lost Without Her  and Stay Alive, That Would Be Enough are runners up!
7. do you write crossovers? if so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
Nope. Not creative enough for that  😂 😂
8. have you ever received hate on a fic?
I don’t think so? Only hate for making people feel too many feels  😂 😂 😂
But to the person who once commented “Bestie I hate to break it to you but this ^ is not therapy” on one of my angst fics, please know that even though I don’t know who you are, I love you and think about this comment everyday.
9. do you write smut? if so what kind?
Yes, but not lately. And it usually has feelings involved. No plots usually, but feelings yes.
10. have you ever had a fic stolen?
I doubt I am even known enough for someone to bother  😂
11. have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but that would be awesome!
12. have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yeah! Lean On Me with @shadowcass! Set during season 7 of AoS- Instead of MaYo going to Afterlife, it’s May & Daisy!
13. what’s your all time favorite ship?
Philindaaaaaaa. I have way too many feels about those two.
14. what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Anything that’s in my old laptop. I got a new computer about 6 months ago, and any of my WIPs that somehow didn’t transfer over will probably never be finished. 😔
15. what are your writing strengths?
Angst! Also fluff (if I’m in the right mood). Sometimes humor! (again, depends on the mood.)
16. what are your writing weaknesses?
Feels I think? Sometimes I just write and then I go back to read it later and the dialogue in the feels particularly cringey. Also, I have a habit of using my southern slang in random places if I’m writing while tired, so I try to double check that.  😂
17. what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Personally, I’ve only done it a couple of times, and for very short sentences or phrases because I don’t want to accidentally say something wrong and make a mess of things! I sadly only speak English with a few words of Spanish and Italian thrown in for funsies. Still waiting on a fic where I can randomly throw in a word or two in Italian.
18. what was the first fandom you wrote for?
Agents of Shield I believe! Unless you count the poorly written story I practically copied from an episode of Desperate Housewives that I was probably way too young to be watching. I wrote with gel pen on some loose leaf paper and then put into a pronged folder. I was maybe... 12? Mayyyyybe 13?
19. what’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
It’s like choosing my favorite child! (Not that I have children, but I do have 4 pets and I can easily tell you who my favorite pet is. 😂)
Hands down, I think my favorite has to be It’s Only a Matter of Time. I wrote a spec fic before the AoS finale where the team splits up across time, and I sobbed so hard while writing it!
Also I really really like The Unimaginable listed above with the angsty ending!
I’m tagging @tessathetesla @samanthaswishes @herosofmarvelanddc @brutashaphilindaandsylkieohmy if you guys want to do this!

20 Fic Writer Questions
Thanks @theboyfrommakapu for the tag!
Note: This is not going to include works from my deleted AO3 account cuz they will be on Wattpad and Fanfiction. There might be mentions of my Wattpad and Fanfiction accounts though.
1) How many works do you have on AO3?
At the moment? 67
2) What’s your total AO3 word count?
2,15,524 words. This is honestly a surprise cuz I thought I wrote much less than that cuz most of what I've written are OS that's less than 2.5k... I dread to imagine what it would be if I were to include my Wattpad and Fanfiction fics also.
3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
I am doing an overall from all 3 sites for this one:
Harry Potter, Avengers, Sherlock (BBC), Percy Jackson, Kane Chronicles, Mahabharata, Bollywood (cuz I have quite a bit of fics written for those movies and I don't want to list them out individually), Avatar The Last Airbender, Legend of Korra.
4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1. Anniver- Wait What? - Kudos: 90
2. Cuddles Please? - Kudos: 58
3. Letters - Kudos: 41
4. Dates - Kudos: 32
5. It is a tie between The Hair is on Fire!!! and Demons - Kudos: 31
5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Yes. Every single one cuz I consider them to be precious.
6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Well... I can't really say I have a fic with an angsty ending cuz most of my angst are aimed to be angst with a happy ending... but the top might be Luka Chuppi, We Part... Only to Meet Again, 2 songfics I am writing or the secret fic I am writing for someone. Maybe I'm Tired too.
7) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
That's a tough one... though if I were to say the top something, it's between Love is blind (from Rang De Basanti Drabbles), and Photographs (It's on Wattpad which I've yet to crosspost) and Through The Years: Mother's Day.
8) Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?
Yes, I do write crossovers but most of them are on Fanfiction/Wattpad. As for the craziest ones... There's Characters Meet, The Ultimate Paagalkhana and There is More Than What Meets The Eye.
9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?
There was this one fic I took down after people assumed I was being transphobic because the story apparently came across like that, which wasn't my intention. Apart from that one instance, maybe those people who hate my fic cuz "Good Gabe? Not possible at all!"
10) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I did attempt one though I don't know if I will post it. Other than that the only time I did write smut (which I won't post) was for reference sake for Eye Opener
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Hopefully, not. But I did have my fic taken down, twice, because, apparently, I was plagiarizing it. It was a reading PJO fic -_-
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope.
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes. Blood Doesn't Complete This Family (though my co author walked off due to personal reasons), Eye Opener, Demons, ADHD and a few other fics I have planned with @busy-bii (AO3 - sour_rose61)
14) What’s your all-time favorite ship?
I am a multishipper and my favourites keep changing constantly. At the moment tho, Huan/Mako, Makroh, Johnlock might be the top.
15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Well... There Is More Than What Meets The Eye, Can We Ever Be Together?, Greek? Egyptian? Maybe Both? and Let's Figure Out The Hero's Past. It's not like I don't want to write them but more like my idea of where I want them to go keeps changing constantly that... I don't want to go back and rewrite the previous chapters, again and again, every time something changes. I've rewritten them all at least once at this point before taking them down and putting them on hold.
16) What are your writing strengths?
Probably writing songfics and imagination. Maybe covering what I want to write some way or the other. Writing H/C and angst is my fav.
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
Almost everything possible. Imagery and description are the worst for me. Maybe character development and having a steady plot (aka finishing a multichapter fic for once). I have been trying to improve but there is a long way to go.
18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
If it is necessary for the plot/story, I am completely comfortable with it as long as I know the language. Most of my Bollywood fics do have Hindi dialogues and KKAKK has some Tamil dialogues in it so... yeah.
19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter. Even though I hadn't read the book at that point. Teachers and their unreasonable demands... tbh I wasn't even interested in writing at that point and she's like "There's this short story thing and I want you to participate and submit the story tomorrow" and refused to budge even after I said I haven't read the series.
20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Unfair :( I have too many to count and they are all my babies and I love them all. But since it is specified, top are the Closure series, Bumi's Strays series, Kirti Kriti Aur Kartik Ki, and most of my one shots.

2020 overview: writing edition
Tagged by the loveliest and kindest of friends, @momentofmemory.
I’m not tagging anyone because I’ve not been around and am sure most have done this by now, but if you’re reading this and you’ve not been tagged and would like to participate please say I tagged you! <3
1. List of works published this year
The Kid Really is Smitten (Peter & Happy, Peter/MJ. 233) Nightmares and New Beginnings (May & Peter. 733)  Normal Teenager Stuff (May & Peter. 5+1, 1.8k)  Breaking a Promise (May & Peter, May & Tony. 3.3k) Carry Me (Morgan & Happy. 1.2k)
Fictober 2020 Series  * Works around 1k+ include:  Somebody to Talk To (May & Karen. 1.8k) Fireproof (Happy & Peter. 904) Flight Conversation (MJ & Peter. 967) Incalculable Worth (Ben & Peter. 2.8k) Regrets (May & Peter. 1.2k) A Nice Peaceful Afternoon (Mr. Harrington and the AcaDec kids. 3k)
Knowing (Peter/MJ, May & MJ. 2.5k)  Forever Ours (May & Peter, May/Ben. 3.8k)  2. Work you are most proud of (and why)
I think it would have to be Incalculable Worth from my Fictober series. I’m forever disappointed in the Ben Parker erasure of the MCU and had been wanting to give him the respect he deserves. Most of this fic came to me much more quickly than my typical writing inspo (that Fictober deadline magic!), and even though I still have things I might change about the final product, I’ve never been so pleased with a fic’s result and reception. Several lovely people stumbled across this fic on Ao3 and left kind comments about how moved they were, which makes me think that I did what I set out to do!
3. Work you are least proud of (and why)
This would be Nightmares and New Beginnings. I just think it’s weird. I was so new to fic when I wrote it and was feeling experimental one night. I normally write quite slowly and edit a lot, but the idea for this one came to me after midnight and I published the fic before 2am. I hated it when I woke up and nearly deleted it. Two months later, as I was beginning to post Fictober on Ao3, I almost deleted it once again. The words of one extremely kind commenter saved it from destruction, however, so it’s still there!
4. A favorite excerpt of your writing
This is going to be hard for me because I don’t actually enjoy my writing for its composition! I like the concepts and character interactions a lot but I’m not terribly proud of my actual writing ability yet. 😬
My favorite thing I’ve written lately is the ending to Forever Ours, my new fic about May and Ben adopting Peter, but I don’t want to put it here because it might be a very minor spoiler.
So here’s a little section of Trust, my last Fictober ficlet. I liked it because May’s inner turmoil over Peter’s Spider-Man life is one of my absolute favorite things to write about.
What troubles her most is this: whatever is out there, whoever he’s fighting—they won’t know he is fifteen. That he’s a child. That he loves Legos, and Star Wars, and science puns, and Mathletes. But what can she say?
He’s not asking for permission. He’ll do this no matter what she says, and they both know it.
He is asking for her blessing.
5. Share or describe a favourite review you received
This review meant so much to me! This lovely commenter read multiple May and Ben Parker fics and it was so nice to find that I’m not the only one who wants more of the Parker family than what we get in the MCU. It made me feel like my niche writing wasn’t of interest to me and me alone after all. :)
Tumblr media
6. A time when writing was really, really hard
Halfway through Fictober, I lost one of the most important people in my life. It was devastating. Writing was nice about 90% of the time, and actually a nice distraction that helped me take a break from the grief. But sometimes it wasn’t, sometimes it felt impossible, and that was when I’d just skip writing or posting and wait until it would serve me again. (So I finished Fictober a little later than I wanted to, but I have 0 regrets about that.)
7. A scene of characters you wrote that surprised you
I only wrote one thing that wasn’t an MCU Spidey fic, and that was Carry Me with Morgan and Happy. I wasn’t expecting to write it at all, and it’s not one of my favorite finished fics, but I really enjoyed the process.
8. How did you grow as a writer this year
I grew by writing fic for the first time! My job for the majority of this year involved a lot of nonfiction copywriting, so I’m an experienced writer, but I had no idea what writing would be like outside my “professional life.” I’m glad I tried it!
9. How do you hope to grow next year
I’m hoping to finish and publish a longer (for me) fic! I’m currently working on Penance, a fic about MCU Spidey’s origins and Uncle Ben’s influence. It should be at least 6-7k by the time I’m finished. I know that is actually short, but I haven’t even cracked 4k yet 😂 Longer fics stress me out because I don’t feel confident enough in my ability to tie together so many words, and I also can’t come up with plots to save my life. So this will be a stretch for me and I am looking forward to it!
10. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta of cheerleader or muse etc. etc.)
This is, without question, @momentofmemory. For so many reasons. (Sorry in advance for how rambly this will get, my friend.)
Mem’s writing (particularly this May fic that is perfection and no I will never stop rec’ing it til the day I die thank you) is to blame/thank for getting me into fic in the first place. I’d been here in the Spidey fandom on Tumblr but I didn’t trust fanfic because I’d seen my most beloved characters shoved to the side/killed off in too many stories. I began 2020 hating all fanfic tbh. But then I read Mem’s captivating masterpieces (like this, the greatest one-shot!) and opened my heart to fic that celebrates the worlds I love!
Mem is the kindest human ever. She read ALL of my Fictober works and left the kindest comments that made my heart soar. Knowing that my favorite author had taken the time to read all of that motivated me to write more than anything else has this year!
Sometimes, when I was trying to write fic but felt burned out or uninspired, I’d go and read Mem’s writing. Her prose is divine, her dialogue is realistic, her characters and their relationships are so well thought-out--her work inspires me! I’d read it and feel excited by the ways that we can use our words to create beautiful things, and though I’m not anywhere near her level, I do think that reading her work has made me a better writer.
Bonus positive influence: @i-lovethatforme! Jess, thank you for being the world’s best cheerleader, for being endlessly kind and supportive, and for being my first ever beta in November. I go back and read your wonderful comments whenever I’m doubting myself. You’re an absolute gem and ilysm ❤
11. Anything from real life show up in your writing this year?
Yep. Regrets is about grief, and I was grieving pretty heavily when I wrote it. Peter’s regrets didn’t necessarily mirror mine, but writing it was still a cathartic experience.
12. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers
Write what you want to write! Since I don’t do IronDad or smut, I wasn’t sure if anyone in the MCU Spidey fandom would be interested in my work. I thought briefly about trying to write based on what I thought people would read, but I decided against it. I enjoy writing platonic friendships and family fic more than anything else, so that’s what I publish most. I write what I want to write, and it’s made me so happy!
13. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year?
I have a few things I’m excited about! I’ve got some Spideychelle ficlets that might be a series. They’ll focus on Peter and MJ after coming back from The Blip, featuring MJ trying to ignore her crush and Peter developing a crush. The other is Penance, the MCU Spidey origins/Ben Parker story.
14. If you could recommend only one work from yourself published this year
I think I’d say Knowing, my fic about Peter/MJ that’s more about MJ & May bonding. I just love these two women with all my heart, and I’m proud of the way this one turned out because I think it honors both of them pretty solidly.
15. End of Year word count
36,625 words! It’s not a lot in comparison to other writers but it’s a huge accomplishment for me!

Bonus Question Answers! (anime heat 3)
I asked a silly question! You gave me incredible answers. SO VERY MANY INCREDIBLE ANSWERS. If yours is listed below, you’ve earned an entry in a random draw to win a GIFTENING liveblog OF YOUR CHOICE
SURPRISE EVERYONE WHO ANSWERED THIS ONE GETS AN ENTRY (with extra entry if you pulled a specific line). This has been such a struggle for me for the past ... you know, million years or something, and each of you made me feel so good, thank you. ♥
Q: This is reaching back into the memory a bit, I know, but what's your favourite of my fanfic? (BONUS BONUS ENTRY if you pull a specific line!)
*  i cannot remember a specific line off the top of my head but i remember the post-S series dealing with usagi's trauma from pharaoh 90 (sound of silence?) was a gut punch and a half --  anewconstellation
~~
* "Blue shirt. Pearl buttons." I think this was the first time I read you writing the Outers, particularly Neptune and Uranus, and, uh, holy shit. Absolutely note-perfect dialogue and dynamic, particularly for that period of Sailor Moon S when Michiru and Haruka used intimacy of speech and gesture as an instrument of distancing and obfuscation (of their goals to the Inners, of their hearts to themselves and to each other, of the heli-pad to the staff at Mugen Academy, etc). It was so clear, and so clearly *them* that I could actually hear the intonations of their respective seiyuu. And then to deploy such spot-on character elements in combination with the stakes and the maturity the anime never reached for, my WORD, are you trying to kill me??? The pacing, the restraint! What an absolute gift. You're a wonder. (also your drabbles are fuckin peerless, and the BTL concept is such a clever series framework)  -- @rasiqra-revulva
~~
*  This was so hard to pick from, but I finally settled on "Cause and Affect" - it's such a heartbreaking story, but the juxtaposition between the clinical lines of information from the computer to the memories Ami is dealing with to the horror of the visuals around her... it's so bright and sharp and PRESENT.  It keeps me in the story, that mix of tones and feelings.  And the final line?  Perfection.  "Number of regrets: none"  What an amazing take on Ami and how she processes information and how she deals with the situation she is in.  I still get chills up my back when I read the story.  -- @amberlilly
~~
*  I love your Between the Lines series, it's how I found your Tumblr and liveblogs back in the day -- @amboato
~~
*  Author Alert.  “So never, ever, going to live this down.” -- @crunchbuttsteak
~~
*  "Of her word" quote "But for all that, it remained sand. Rei erased it with one swipe."  -- Dei
~~
*  Between The Lines. Adding further character/emotional depth to canon is YES PLZ. I really liked the whole idea of Usagi having trauma post-Pharaoh 90 and all the chapters that hit on that. On a less serious note Chibs' circus-related PTSD and freaking out when Hotaru wants to go to the circus kills me every time. ("But your precious dreams Hotaru-chan!")  -- forgottenfae
~~
*  This is probably the obvious choice, but "The Sounds of The Silence" has haunted me in all the best ways since I first read it. The way you write Rei, Usagi, and Rei and Usagi hits me right in the heart every time. This particular fic, with Usagi so traumatized, and Rei being as soft and gentle as Usagi needs, will always stick with me. I pulled up the fic to try and narrow down a single line, and ultimately there's no real debate. "She would never stop trying to do more, but for now, she simply did this." That line is, at its core, the essence of Rei Hino. And it is perfection.  -- gatorsandglitter
~~
*  I don't expect this to win at all, just sharing,, but I just super fondly remembered the goggles and all the amazing content, meta, and fic those inspired, both from you and others  -- @goosebytrade
~~
*  "You Win or You Die"  my favorite line is "She and Rei WOULD have The Moment, they WOULD get their thousand years of bliss, and they WOULD be making out after all this was over. Like, SO HARD."  -- @i-needa-nap-please
~~
*  I'm always really bad at answering questions like this because my mind has pretty much become a goldfish in my old age and I have a hard time remembering specific fics; it all sort of starts to jumble up in my brain and things get lost. But I have always loved reading your writing, it's what got me onto this godforsaken website in the first place -- it was just before Crystal dropped, and we were all foolishly full of hope and excitement, and you were going through the Moon Pride video and waxing poetic about the FRIENDSHIPS and I was like, "YES! Finally! Someone who understands why I love this stupid kids' show!" I think I sent you an ask saying this before, (but who knows if you ever got it, Tumblrs being what they are - indifferent) but I tried reading fanfic and even published novels based on properties, like the Buffy novels and Star Trek and Star Wars novels, for a long time, and mostly found it frustrating and annoying and just... wrong. It always had this awkwardness and clunkiness to it that didn't do anything for me and just constantly screamed "THIS IS A FANFIC IT IS NOT REAL WRITING" at me. Didn't like it. But, I liked yours. Yours didn't feel awkward or clunky. You have never written any sentences like, "Rei watched the blonde stand up" where "the blonde" is Minako, and I don't know why fanfic writers think that calling characters "the blonde" or "the redhead" or whatever is sexy or cute but it ain't (sorry, pet peeve tangent). So, when you were writing stuff more, I would read it like it was going out of style, and you led me to Doc's writing, which had the same natural, "this is real writing" quality, and I loved hers, too. Anyway, my favorites of yours have always been the Between the Lines stuff. I just love the "hidden" moments that we didn't get to see. The Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead bits of Sailor Moon (speaking of fanfic that actually works) that bring so much depth to characters we know and love already or to characters we see only briefly. Also, the Shadow Senshi, because FUCK. Just... Kill Me. In any event, I know that writing has been difficult for you of late, and I know how that feels, so I hope that people who are actually able to answer this question have given you some places to go and draw strength from so that it can become part of your life again. TBH, I've been using the bonus questions on your Giftening surveys and Doc's 8 Days surveys as an excuse to try doing some small bits of quick, no pressure, nobody's gonna see it unless you or Doc actually LIKE it, don't think about it writing, and it has been helpful. I hope you can find something that gives you the same opportunity. Now that I've written you a novel that doesn't even answer the question you asked (goldfish, remember? *sigh*), have a gorgeous Tuesday!  -- @incorrecttact
~~
*  The one with Pluto and Queen Serenity, where Serenity is selfish in a very Usagi way, but her arrogance combined with that selfishness makes it a fatal flaw? I liked that one a lot. -- Jules
~~
*  the bit you wrote to 'fill in' a gap for why during r did mamoru act like a distant jerk. My favourite parts were Rei coming to see the same dream, and despite being the one to have the biggest reason to believe in these kinds of prophetic visions, Rei still doesn't believe fate is set in stone. -- just... a fan. a well-baked one
~~
*  Make It To New Year's -- @kaleidodreams
~~
*  ahhh, where is a link to all of your fanfic? It's the series you started after S, with Rei comforting Usagi, because like you I was let down by the fact that they never followed up on what Usagi saw, or even how she dealt, with the end of S. runner up: the one where Usagi is about to give birth because everything you write with Rei and Usagi is amazing. -- kari
~~
*  There was a drabble/draft/something that you used one of my prompts for, and I prompted you with Usagi and Rei, but you did it from Luna's perspective and THAT WAS SO UNEXPECTED and it turned out SO GOOD cause like!!!!!! You made Sailor Moon both someone Luna cares for, because still the legacy of the moon, and someone utterly discouraging for her because *this should not be*, and wow what a way to make it both about Usagi herself and about her powers.  -- katrani
~~
*  I love the btl fics, they fill in the missing gaps, add depth to the story, and sometimes smooth over things (SuperS) when canon is just...blah. One line I really liked was: “I was listening, at first, but then I started thinking about how hungry I was, and how a pork bun would be really good right now, and then I wondered what makes a thing a bun, and like, if you put ANYTHING in a bun, does it become a Thing-Bun, so could you make a bun out of another bun and would it be a Bun Bun, and wouldn’t that be the greatest thing to– Rei?” It's a great run-on, stream of thought sentence that just really catches Usagi's voice, is hilarious, and such a natural progression. -- @kumeko
~~
*  “HUG,” Usagi demanded again, because dammit, she’d been promised a hug and SOMEONE was going to deliver. (The one where Michiru has the hiccups. Because it's fun HaruMichi stuff, because it weaponises Usagi in a useful way, because it manages to (gently) make fun of both perfect!Michiru and saint!Usagi without being mean to either character, and also because I get hiccups a lot and I haaaaate them.) -- nerdy-flutterings
~~
*  I can't remember a specific fic, but I LOVE your Shadow Senshi headcanons and they're the main reason I started writing my own Shadow Senshi stories. -- @notesfromtheidiotbox
~~
*  The Figuarts saga is the Sailor Moon fic I never knew I needed -- Raye
~~
*  Special Delivery is a delight. So much Rei Certainty (that ends up being misplaced). So much Usagi being The Most Usagi About Pregnancy. So much Comedic Hijinks, because why the hell WOULDN’T ‘the Senshi get blindsided when Usagi goes into labor’ end up going full screwball? There’s a lot of great lines there (Rei’s theory about Chibs taking control of the Gate of Time and manipulating things is fantastic, as is the ending,) but my favorite is definitely “Rei Hino if I give birth to my daughter on the side of the road I swear I will go back in time and tear all the pages out of your favorite coloring book! [...] I’ll break the crayons too, Rei-chan!” Delightfully specific and childish, especially since Usagi sticks with it, and that particular brand of comic specificity is definitely a highlight of yours. -- Regalli
~~
*  Fire on Mountain!!! When I got to “Her voice was deeper than most expected when facing the certainty of her. It was rough, sandpaper running over cherry. She’d been a singer, once. Nobody would have believed her.” I was like oh. OH! -- Sasha
~~
*  My favorite of your fanfic, one one of the first I read is 'Hard to Break'. And my absolute favorite line is Usagi's panic when Minako tries to smoke: "Minako who was almost certainly dying, the cigarette had spread its evil and killed her instantly oh god."  -- @shavedjudomonkey
~~
*  Tonight Ami would grieve, and wish she understood why.'  This Between the Lines about Ami getting her mini computer both haunts me and brings tears to my eyes.  -- @shonasof
~~
*  I can't remember the title, but it's the one where Minako realizes that Rei's been writing Sailor V fanfic under the name Red Bow -- Somariel
~~
*  You would think Mako-chan's Happy Ending, but nope, this one goes to Hard to Break (although I had to look up the exact name.) This thing is filled with such great lines. How am I supposed to pick out one? "[Watch out, boys,]" Minako said in smooth and entirely unnecessary English. "[Lady Super Cool is on the prowl.]" -- Ultrace
~~
*  I forget the title, but it's the 'last senshi standing' fic where Ami is reflecting on the battle that took the others from her. Detatched and cold as she analyzes Rei Minako and Mako and finally Usagi's death with a medical efficiency, going through her Visors readout and then reflecting that the clinical words were nothing compared to what she'd actually seen. following up the method of death of the senshi with a statistic in relation to her friendship with the girl. Number of milkshakes shared, number of conversations lasting well into the night, number of hugs, number of smiles that brightened the darkest of moods. Describing how Rei's heart was pulped in a monster's grip, Minako's once beautiful face smashed against the rocks, Mako's lightning that outlived its mistress as she and Usagi ran off, and then finally that one last attempt to protect Usagi failing as 'Cervical Fracture' flashes on her visor. And From there she just... accepts death. sitting beside where Usagi had fallen and waiting for the end. it's dark af but it's the first one that always comes to mind when i think about ur fics :>  -- Vega
~~
*  I am extremely predictable here with two of my choices, as you know that I am obsessed with Fire on the Mountain and Blue Shirt, two things you wrote when you "definitely couldn't write" (Sidenote: My new year's resolution is to be harder on your about writing) We all know why I love blue shirt, it's basically an underhand pitch to the face for me, but Fire on the Mountain has a quality of regret and longing that I really connected with, something that really struck me in a way that was powerful. It's different from a lot of your inners work, and I think about Mina posing as Rei, in her disguise magic in the woods, and all the reasons why, fairly often. Something that MAY come as a surprise to you, is I really wish we got more ofyour overwatch stuff, and maybe I'll just keep asking for this for my birthday for the rest of our natural lives, but I think of like, the one you wrote on 7/14/20, with Pharah longing to have a man to shoot in the face because that would be easier than the emotions around whatever's going on with her, and I'm utterly tantalized. And I loved that hurt/comfort you wrote for me, where Pharah had this single minded drive to find out what had happened to Angela, and Tracer's trying to, well, comfort her, on some level, and the way you described Pharah's "animal cry" was FANTASTIC, and as always I am deeply jealous of your Tracer voice and IF YOU WOULD WRITE IT MORE IT WOULD HELP ME. -- WRITE, BITCH.
~~
*  The one were Hotaru confronted Michiru and Haruka about how they had tried to kill her in order to stop the Silence. Such a good little moment =w= -- zorrito
~~
AND THEN THESE WERE UNSIGNED SAD FACE
*  Chosen. I like your Overwatch stuff but Chosen was a goddamn masterpiece.
*  Operation: Heart Angels. Senshi going after Mamoru for his bullshit was something I didn't know I needed.
*  The entirety of Beggars Would Ride, including every single line of Anya's dialogue.
I’ll be drawing for the bonus liveblog around the start of THE GIFTENING 2020 (currently looking to be Monday, 11 January 2021). Each bonus question is another chance to earn an entry! I CAN ABSOLUTELY AND SHAMELESSLY BE BOUGHT.

THE POSITIVE & NEGATIVE; Mun & Muse - Meme.
fill out & repost ♥ This meme definitely favors canons more, but I hope OC’s still can make it somehow work with their own lore, and lil’ fandom of friends & mutuals. Multi-Muses pick the muse you are the most invested in atm. tagged by: stolen from @dansiere tagging: @ghiassan, @deathsreflection, @altuspavus, @windrunnerrs (velanna), @hopewrought, @willbeshot, @seahaloed (iron bull), @asterfed (noctis), @ anyone who wants to steal it! also multis feel free to choose a different character
Tumblr media
My muse is:   canon / oc / au / canon-divergent / fandomless / complicated (i’m open to roleplaying with non-dragon age characters, and have AUs for other fandoms)
Is your character popular in the fandom? YES / NO. solas is both wildly popular and wildly hated. he’s been more consistently popular than the controversial women in the series, like sera or vivienne, who have only recently begun to get to the point where their tags are less vitriolic (although i’m sure it’s still out there), but there’s still a sizable hatedom that can’t have his name breathed in their vicinity w/o them talking abt how much they hate him. even if you’re currently cosplaying him!
Is your character considered hot™ in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK. again, you have ppl who are super into him and ppl who think he’s ugly. my personal opinion is that i think he’s weirdly pretty, and wish ppl would commit more to his unconventional features rather than try to chisel him into sb more traditionally attractive and that ppl who don’t find him attractive would maybe chill w/ calling him ugly. find him unattractive by all means, but lets embrace the fact that inquisition let their love interests have skin flaws etc and accept that some won’t be our cups of tea.
Is your character considered strong in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK. its hard to deny at this point tbh.
Are they underrated?  YES / NO / IDK. frustrating as the hate in the tags he has enough fans that i couldnt say he’s underrated w/ a straight face.
Were they relevant for the main story?  YES / NO. he’s the reason the game starts with a bang and not the inevitable dissolution of the conclave b/c the sides are disparate.
Were they relevant for the main character? YES / NO / THEY’RE THE PROTAG. regardless of solas’ relationship with the inquisitor, there are parallels and contrasts in their stories and he also is the reason they survive inquisition.
Are they widely known in their world? YES / NO. fen’harel is well-known and revered, if feared, among the dalish, yet at the same time he’s not remembered for a lot besides locking the gods away-- and the context of that decision has also been lost. as solas he’s relatively unknown until inquisition and especially trespasser.
How’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL. again, polarising!! he has loyal agents and people are willing to speak well of him despite everything, including his enemies sometimes (depending mostly on the inquisitor).
How strictly do you follow canon?  — generally i try to have a canon basis for my interpretation, even if i interpret the text differently than the author.
SELL YOUR MUSE! Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals.  —  solas is an immortal who is simultaneously jaded and very much invested in the small moments of life. far from being weary of the day-to-day lives of ordinary people, it is systems and orders he is most tired of. he walks an interesting line that feels far less misanthropic than other immortal characters i’ve experienced, yet still he’s quite cynical. as a character who has fought against religious based tyranny before, but in a completely different era, he is in a unique position where what he sees around him is both horrifyingly familiar and yet completely new. it allows an exploration of the wrongs of thedas’ society from an outsider’s perspective. his motivations are complex and multifaceted, often condemnable and yet also understandable. his character arc in inquisition (if befriended, or regardless in the case of my solas) takes him from a dispassionate, disconnected antagonist to someone deeply invested in the people of thedas, deeply conflicted and actively hoping he will be proven wrong again. i think his story is a testament to human (or elven, or dwarven, or-) connection and how even when we resist we can’t resist creating bonds with the people in our lives. i personally see this bond going beyond the inquisitor hence why i play low-approval solas as conflicted as high-approval, if not when it comes to the inquisitor.
Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).  —  solas is selfish and motivated solely by revenge, he’s clinging to a past that clearly no longer exists, if you ignore all the people from it who are still alive. he’s totally unaware of all his flaws and never owns up to any mistakes ever. no, i haven’t listened to a single word solas has said in my life why do you ask. he’s also critical of my faves which means he’s #cancelled, there is clearly no validity to what he’s saying. ksjdf no but in all seriousness i think a lot of reasons ppl don’t find solas interesting are just... weird readings of his character that sometimes have no basis in the text of inquisition, but also there are plenty of perfectly valid reasons to not find him interesting. usually those ppl don’t like... talk abt how much they don’t find him interesting constantly tho. they just chill and aren’t invested in this particular villain. for one thing i think the game missed out on opportunities for exploring how someone who may not have even had a body at the beginning of his existence would feel about gender and sexuality, so making him presumably straight and cis was a boring choice. i also think that the dragon age games being very protagonist-centric hurts solas’ character, there’s no real reason why the inquisitor is the only one who can throw his plans into question but making the player the center of the universe means he’s not allowed to change due to the effects of other companions or NPCs. thank god this is rp and i do what i want.
What inspired you to rp your muse?  —  i have a history degree so when the inquisition companions were being teased, solas describing bias in primary sources from the memories he’s seen got me interested in him. but my first playthrough i didn’t actually take him with me all too often, i think my main party was dorian-blackwall-varric. i liked him, and i think he or dorian were my first friends in skyhold, but my initial interest was in other characters. between his dialogue that appealed to the historian in me tho and how his spirit opinions sort of turned everything i’d felt about spirits in the last two games on its head, i started vibing with him more the farther i went in. like merrill set me up for the “spirits are people” thing and solas hit it out of the park. then temple of mythal happened, and i did bring solas with me there. i found his dialogue fascinating and also suspicious, i’d just finished masked empire like the day before da:i came out so i definitely thought solas was an ancient elf in the same vein as felassan. it was after temple of mythal that i actually decided to make his blog, although like as one idk linchpin to cement my status as solas trash... i was hit BAD by the banter bug on my first playthrough, probably got like a dozen banters total. but then at some point late in the game i took solas to the forbidden oasis and he wouldn’t stop talking to people, and i really loved his banter with the rest of my party at the time.
What keeps your inspiration going?  —  replaying inquisition, new DA content when the bioware gods deign to grant us a lifeline, but the biggest thing is my rp partners. i wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the people i write with, new and old. my activity of late hasn’t been the best, work and the summer heat has really been sapping me of energy, and does even during years when we aren’t going through a pandemic. but it’s the thought of my rp partners and love of solas that keeps me coming back.
Some more personal questions for the mun.
Give your mutuals some insight about the way you are in some matters, which could lead them to get more comfortable with you or perhaps not.
Do you think you give your character justice?  YES / NO / I SINCERELY HOPE I DO? i have my doubts sometimes, but i think i do ok.
Do you frequently write headcanons?  YES / NO / SORT OF? there is no headcanon too small for me.
Do you sometimes write drabbles?  YES / NO. but not lately * gestures to the low activity * i’ve been in this cycle where i get anxious abt late replies, so prioritise them, then burn myself out and can’t write the fics i want. i’ve had two i’ve been DYING to write tho i just... need to find the space in my brain to let myself.
Do you think a lot about your Muse during the day? YES / NO. i mean it depends on the day. if i work closing shifts at my store it gets very quiet and boring around 8:30 so i spent the next 90 minutes thinking about character stuff.
Are you confident in your portrayal?  YES / NO / SORT OF?
Are you confident in your writing?  YES / NO / SOMETIMES.
Are you a sensitive person?  YES / NO / SORTA.
Do you accept criticism well about your portrayal?  —  i’m going to say ‘no’ because like, i don’t ask for criticism. this is a hobby based on my interpretation of a character, if you think i write solas too soft then you’re welcome to think that, but i’m happy with the balance i’ve struck with his internal versus external behaviour and how he changes based upon who he’s speaking to. if you think i’m erasing straight people by making solas pan then ksjdfs. ok.
Do you like questions, which help you explore your character?  —  yes!!! even if they retread ground already trodden, a) my interpretation may have adjusted since the last time i played or b) a reminder is nice. if it’s new stuff then it’s fun to think about.
If someone disagrees to a headcanon of yours, do you want to know why?  —  it’d depend on why they disagree. if they just disagree on a subjective opinion about what i took from a certain line, then they’re welcome to their opinion but i don’t necessarily care to hear it. if it is unintentionally hurtful then i would like to know. although rather than a comment i’d rather a non-anonymous message.
If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?  —  same as the above.
If someone really hates your character, how do you take it?  —  if they’re vocal about it i typically just unfollow / softblock if i was following in the first place. people can feel how they want about solas, but i’ve found over the years that if people really hate solas ooc it can often bleed into their ic interactions. it’s really weird seeing your character being brought up repeatedly in threads with others specifically to dunk on, for no reason other than i guess solas is living rent free in their heads, so at least we have that in common. but anyway unfollowing is just the best choice to avoid getting kinda pressed if i’m having a bad day.
Are you okay with people pointing out your grammatical errors?  —  roleplay is the wild west of writing, so i think it’d depend on what the error was. coming at me like “you shouldn’t start a sentence with a preposition” would get a laugh, but i don’t edit my replies much if at all and mistakes will 100% happen. pointing out typos is chill so long as you do it politely.
Do you think you are easy going as a mun?   —  it depends! i’ve learned that being too easy going actually just means i’m subjecting myself to negative emotions to please people. so i’ve gotten less easy going as the years go by. how does one define “easy going” anyway? does asking that question mean i am objectively not easy going? the longer this thought goes on the more the answer seems to be “probably not,” but i like to think it could be a lot worse.

From the writers' ask please: 1 , 3, 5 and 9 😊🌺
1. Tell us about your current project(s)  –   what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?
I’m just finishing up the last chapters of my Titanic AU. The last quarter of the story has been all about the sinking of the ship, which I find harder to write because there are lots and lots of action sequences with nary a break. But I like how it all turned out. What I love most about it is that gives me an opportunity to indulge in my “lovers/friends saving each other without regard for their own safety”-kink :D There’s been a lot of that. I’m also looking forward to the last two chapters, which are going to deal with the aftermath - challenging, but a nice change of pace and perspective.
I have also started on a smaller (probably around 4 or 5 chapters) Froger “friends to lovers” story set in the early 70s. I’m mainly brainstorming and drafting scenes right now, which is a lot of fun. There’s going to be lots of mishaps and humour in it, hopefully, which I’m really looking forward too. And it’s shaping up to be all Freddie POV, which is something I haven’t done yet outside of one-shots.
Aaaaaand I’m also playing around with ideas for a shortish sequel to For The Day I Take Your Hand, set in the 2010s. There’s something I want to write, but I haven’t quite got enough of an idea for how to pull the story off... but I’ll just keep in stewing in the back of my mind for now.
3. What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)
Hmm... None comes to mind, really. I enjoy setting up the context, the ‘getting them there’. If anything, I’m more held back to attempt certain things because I think I can’t pull-off the climactic scene itself, or that I couldn’t do the story justice.
Mostly though, it’s just a problem of priorities. I always have way more stories idea floating around my brain than I can ever realistically write. And I’d rather leave 90% of my ideas remain fantasy than half-arse something.
5. What character that you’re writing do you most identify with?
Depends a bit on the story... Honestly, it’s probably going to be a character who is not a protagonist, but someone looking at them from the outside, shaking their head in disappointment at their shenanigans. Like John in FtD xD
I don’t really identify much with either Roger or Freddie, tbh. There are a couple of traits I might share with either of them and like every writer, I draw from my own experiences to imagine what it would be like to be in a certain scene and how they might react. But I usually have them act very differently from how I would. I think. I’m usually writing with a bit of distance even to my POV characters.
9. Are you more of a drabble or a longfic kind of writer? Pantser or plotter? Do you wish you were the other?
Looooooooong! I’m not sure if I’m naturally talented for that kind of fic (given that I attempted and failed to write that sort of thing for ten years), but it’s the kind of fic I really want to write (and read)! I’ve only ever written one-shots for challenges and tbh I don’t get the same kind of satisfaction from them.
I’m more of a plotter, I guess. But I always get pieces of dialogue or descriptions or scene ideas stuck in my head very early on, and I always write them down as soon as possible (and then see how I can integrate them into the overall plot.) As I wrote in response to another ask, I tend to go back and forth between writing and researching/planning. So, it’s probably something in between. But I’ve never done the proper pantser thing and just sat down to write a first chapter, post it, and then see where the second chapter takes me.  I’m sort of doing that with the slavery collab (which is written as a Round Robin) and while it’s an interesting challenge, I’m also finding it a bit stressful and frustrating.
Do I ever wish I were a pantser (or a proper plotter)? Hm, no, not really. I’ve found my process, I think. I wish I could write faster, and better and be more versatile, sure. Pound out 2000 words of finely-crafted prose every day. But I’d rather focus on the fact that I’ve found a way to write stories I’m satisfied with at all. That took a lot of trial and error.
Thanks so much for the asks! <3
