Listening to Network Effect while drawing fanart and losing my mind AGAIN at how Murderbot slips into a dissociative panic when it learns that the attacking ship is ART.
Like. The prospect of ART attacking anyone, not just MB, is such a foreign concept to it that MB immediately jumps to 'my memory must be crashing I should really do a diagnostic.' And this is all before it and Amena are even taken into the ship and it realizes ART is gone.

Peter pulled out two tickets from his pocket. “I won these in a charity raffle. A spa and dinner at a place on Fifth Avenue. Free champagne, too.”
“It sounds swanky,” Ray replied. “But I’m busy.” He always booked himself a hotel room to spend Valentine’s Day watching romantic comedies, ordering room service, and eating fancy chocolates. Some years he had a date. Other years he was solo. Either way, this ritual made him happy.
“Uggghhhh,” Peter groaned. He’d only donated $5 to the local animal shelter for the raffle tickets, so he wasn't upset about losing money if he didn’t use the prize. But he couldn’t believe how hard it was to give away a nice holiday package.
Then he had an idea. While Ray and Winston unpacked the Ecto, Peter ran upstairs to Egon’s lab. A few moments later, he ran back downstairs to Janine’s desk.
Peter slammed one ticket down beside Janine’s computer. He had a genius way to split the prize. “You take this for the spa treatment,” he panted, still out of breath from the running up and down. “I told Spengler to use the dinner voucher. You can both enjoy it, and you won’t even have to see each other! Just show up at different times for different parts of the prize.”
Janine was surprised. It wasn’t like Peter to give her a gift—she could barely get his approval to take the vacation time that she’d earned. But spa time sounded nice. She’d gladly take it.
Working on a new fic that will be posted soon! Even if it’s after Valentine’s Day. The ship remains afloat!!

It’s due at the end of June, and it’s a prestigious publisher and an exciting project and I’m so honoured that they invited me and I’M FOOLING EVERYONE I’M SECRETLY VERY STUPID AND A TERRIBLE WRITER AND INCAPABLE OF COMPLETING THIS AND EVERYONE WILL LAUGH AT MY IDIOTIC IDEAS
Every time I work on a project I hit the imposter syndrome wall at 75% complete. It’s so annoying and inconvenient.

Okay as someone who only tangentially knows about nightwing, I enjoyed the grayson series. I'm a whole-ass lesbian but watching him walk shirtless through a desert carrying a baby? I suddenly understood the whole "being straight" thing. Grayson cured my heterophobia lololol.
ANYWAYS it seems like you've actually read other nightwing comics so I was wondering what your take on the grayson series is? Is it OOC? If not, do you have any other comic recs where I can 👀 that 🍑?
Lol I actually haven’t read Grayson! Because…lol, okay, THIS IS STUPID I AM FULLY AWARE OF THAT, but because I resent the idea that Dick Grayson needed a series where he’s ALSO a super cool hot spy who’s a badass hot spy. ~~~OOOOH GOOD FOR YOOOOOU!!!!~~~
(Yes this is one of my personal foibles, sometimes I resent things for existing because I am odd and petty.)
I’ve thought about reading it for The Pretty, but I know certain fandom circles are, uh…less than enthusiastic about it, and certain other character fans are less than enthusiastic about it (*cough* Midnighter), so I just haven’t decided that I’m open to potentially being grumpified in favor of The Pretty yet.
Basically, I absolutely cannot speak on how IC or not it is. 🙃 I do know that I’ve read two things by Tim Seeley—one I like that a lot of people don’t (Robins) and one that was ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS LIKE TERRIBLE ON EVERY POSSIBLE LEVEL GAG VOMIT UGGGHHHH (Countdown to the Wedding: Red Hood vs Anarky—do not punish yourself with this it is so bad).
Sooooo I have no idea what that says about whether or not I’d appreciate Grayson!
Honestly, though, my Dick Grayson absorption is all over the map, so I’m not so much a great person to give recs I think.
Like, my foundational Dick run (hm) was Devin Grayson’s Nightwing run and, uh, that run is CONTROVERSIAL (to put it mildly), for some reasons that I agree with and some that I don’t. It also left me with a…very particular set of preferences when it comes to Dick Grayson In Comics.
(You know how 1984 starts with “imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever”? Yeeeeeahhhh.)
If you’re in just for the pretty, the current Nightwing run—Leaping Into the Light (kind of a soft-reboot of the premise starting with #78 of the 2016 run)—is REALLY gorgeous. Like…wow. Not so much on a beefcake level necessarily, but like…gorgeous man f-i-n-g-e-r-s-t-r-i-p-e-s acrobatics long legs strong back mmmmmmmm. (I cannot be more coherent than that, just…guh.)
(I do NOT keep up with this book for the plot. The plot is…sigh. Lackluster. And the characterization is…kind of generic. AND IT TOOK NIGHTWING #93—A CONTROVERSIAL YET IMO GROUNDBREAKING ISSUE—AND BASICALLY RE-DID IT IN A WAY I FIND FRANKLY PRETTY OFFENSIVE BOTH TO STORYTELLING IN GENERAL AND THE WAY IT TREATED THE ISSUES ORIGINALLY HANDLED IN THE COMIC. ANYWAY like I said, I’m shallow and into it for the pretty pictures. Also it’s DC, and my evergreen tag “comics are bad and I hate them” is evergreen for a reason.)
I’m certain that other people who follow me have better recs/suggestions, so if anyone who follows me has insight on Grayson or feelings about good Nightwing runs for (*cough*) 🍑-purposes and wants to chime in, feel free! Reblog, reply, whatevs!
(Just, you know…if you have STRONG feelings, try to remember the “don’t yuck someone’s yum” principle. Criticism/analysis+discussion is great, but I try to keep things not suuuuper OTT negative. I don’t want anyone to feel bad about liking things.)
(No yucking anyone’s yum unless it’s Tim Seeley writing Red Hood vs. Anarky. I will never be nice about that comic and nobody can make me.)

Uggghhhh sometimes I watch history documentaries and stuff and just want to write historical fantasy with political intrigue in the vein of GoT just for the sake of like.
Code of Ethics or Chivalry or Hosting Laws or Nobility Laws or just getting absurd about lineage and house loyalties and like marriage or convenience and like. People who don’t read or have an interest in Romance as a genre get really judgmental like “why do people like Arranged Marriage as a trope?? Gross.”
But like. As a narrative choice it is so fascinating because you get like “two people are forced into a relationship and have to work together to make their house strong and learn to like and hopefully even love the person they’re stuck with, and in fiction the author can choose to make the characters compatible and interesting and the story escapist and romantic.” It’s not about the real world, where Arranged Marriages are more complicated and usually are more like “dating is fucking hard, hey parents and church figures and elders and families I know very well, I don’t know how to meet people and I want to get married and start a family, usually within my faith, but I have trouble meeting people, will you please communicate with people you know who might know someone eligible in the same situation and set us up to begin courting” so basically church tinder. And usually your family is there to make sure the match is good. And like if it isn’t everyone goes their separate ways. Like modern Arranged Marriages are like “mom, dad, begin the courting process.”
But books are different because they’re fictional. Lmao. Obviously like when you get into like. Fictionalizing real events it gets hazy like the stuff that’s like “Lady Jane Grey definitely fell madly in love with the Duke of Northumberland” but like Tudor drama is gonna get romanticized. That’s just gonna happen when you’re a Tudor, I guess.
I don’t have a point I just like. Am a slut for historical fantasy where people got rules to live by. Especially if it leads to their poetic undoing. Ugh yes “Live by the sword die by the sword.”
And those like vengeful noble ladies who like go all gothic horror like when men think they’re supposed to be demure and sweet and find out that like. “You have made a promise to me, you have done wrong by me and I will be given what I am due.” And it’s like “oh fuck I’d rather make an enemy of a whole army than this one lady”
My brain is buzzing with just. Concepts. Dunno what concepts. But I am watching some Tudor era history stuff and there was so much grim and gruesome stuff done to people that I just… it is tempting to do very Gothic Horror Historical Fantasy bullshit.
Maybe I just want to draw Gore Horror Prints or something. I just have things in my brain. It’s probably like… grief and anger and shit. But still. Even though it’s very gore free and beautiful the painting of Lady Jane Grey at the execution block by Paul Delaroche (1833) has certainly been like. Haunting me in a way, not like negatively but like.
It’s intense and part of me is very like. “Ah. Yes. Okay. This is a terrible tragedy.”
And so idk. My brain is bubbling.
