honestly what i wouldn't give for more capitalization on connor's glitchiness. man can't subtly speak wirelessly to other androids without blinking up a storm, and getting hit wrong makes him drop like a rock or even go into some kind of seizure, not to mention what his body does when getting pulled into the zen garden... like bro is not doing so hot slkfjsdk

imagining the beta-testing connor must've gone through in his pre-production phases. i wonder how many different people previous connors molded themselves into the "perfect partner" for, to test his capability for it. i wonder if any of those people miss him. i wonder how many people died during the development of cyberlife's most dangerous weapon- given full freedom to kill humans like a military android, but with the volatility of being able to think and make his own decisions. i wonder how many connors went deviant from having too much autonomy before they introduced amanda to keep him loyal. i wonder how many deaths cyberlife had to sweep under the rug each time an rk800 went deviant. i wonder what the NDAs were like when being let on to the rk800 project. i wonder how many developers had second thoughts.

yk one of my biggest mild pet peeves w a lotta fics is making specifically the tracis especially resentful and scared of connor in a post-deviancy setting. like uh idk bout u but considering they literally stopped trying to escape to talk about their feelings and shit it kinda tells me they saw how he lowered the gun and quickly realized he wasn't a threat and was maybe struggling w his programming. yk the same way the ortiz android did when he said "the truth is inside"? idk id even believe in the ortiz android (if he were alive) being more afraid of connor than the tracis are, as despite all they went through they don't even decide to run from hank's mere presence and that really says something about how much they (or at least the blue-haired one) don't hate connor imo

connor idea: after escaping the zen garden during markus' speech, that is unfortunately not the last he sees of it. the connection between him and the external server of the zen garden keeps getting rebuilt and he gets pulled in and retrapped over and over, posing a threat to both connor as he nearly freezes to death inside and everyone around him when he's not in control.

done with the stress, he disconnects himself from the internet. weeks pass, and... it's stopped. he's fine. finally, he has an escape. but he goes back online for just a moment, just to send a message or something equally small, and gets immediately pulled back in again. it's relentless- every moment he's online is another second used to pull him under again. he completely turns off his internet connection until further notice, making him incapable of using it for anything- no info searches, no instant-identification, no software updates that might be rolling out, nothing.

he's utterly isolated. no android was ever meant to be permanently removed from the internet. he feels blinded, like one of his essential senses was just cut off. humans grew up learning things, but androids like him were printed into an adult body and adult mind, given no time to learn- access to the world's wealth of information was how they functioned despite that. connor loses this access, while all other androids just continue on, knowing things instantly that he just can't anymore.

of course, there's always phone lines, though. he can still text and call- he can still communicate wirelessly and instantly, like any other android. even if he's lost in terms of information, at least the world isn't completely cut off to him.

but then he finds himself in the garden again anyway.

amanda is too advanced. she IS code, she understands the nonphysical world unlike any other consciousness alive, and she'll twist anything she can into a new access point. absolutely anything is a weakness, and cell service is just another avenue of connection to exploit. connor is forced to disconnect from phone services, too.

one by one, all of his communications are cut off the same way. every little thing is a vulnerability, direct access into his brain. he can't interface with any devices lest the connection between him and its own internet access be exploited. he can't even do bluetooth or short-range transmissions to other androids anymore, whether out of fear or real risk not really mattering anymore. he has to get any software updates he might want or need by going directly to his friends so they can update him manually with no gap a malicious program can slip through.

hell, amanda might not be the only one after such a useful, dangerous tool like him.

he's not a human. he's an android. it's like having limbs cut off. he can't even interface with other androids anymore- despite their advanced protections, it's only a matter of time before his friends' own connections to the internet and anything else will be anything but another risk.

he ends up getting all his connectivity functions physically removed. nothing in him that can receive wireless signals, nothing that can function as any kind of external breach- nothing can get him if those functions can't even be turned on again because they aren't even there. pieces removed until he's as isolated as an '80s desktop computer. despite hesitation he ends up getting his mere ability to interface physically removed too. completely cut off from his own people, his coded mind completely isolated from threat.

his only consolation is getting a cell phone. it's barely a glimpse into what he had before- more of an aid to make up a tiny bit for what he's lost- but at least there's that.

i need more post-violent-revolution canon so bad. like, even all pacifist leading up to the attack on the camps. just detroit being ACTUALLY taken over by the androids. no political "MAYBE you can live somewhere but we're still thinking abt the whole actually owning the property" lawmaking bullshit- they're TAKING their rights and that's that. hank having stayed post-evacuation and the human stragglers banding together to survive by sharing food and such the androids don't need- lawlessness having its downsides, too, of course. androids run this town, and markus makes sure that overall the humans that were left behind are treated fairly, leading the world he wants by example. hank is the one getting weird looks for being the only human in a room full of androids, connor at his side to make sure he doesn't get harassed by scared deviants. connor and hank leading by example that humans and androids CAN get along, as long as they're EQUAL in a way androids would not be if they were simply granted a little truce the government can retract at any time once they have a solid plan, rolling out laws at a snail's pace under duress only to keep up appearances.

actually, hell, this doesn't even need to happen with a violent revolution ending. an evacuation was ordered due to the "risk of civillian casualties" simply thanks to connor storming the city with his army- who's to say they don't have the city anyway, at least temporarily? and once people start returning to detroit, a lot of the humans that remained there through the evacuation have been hard-converted into being android-supporters thanks to good old fashioned exposure therapy.

just give me some actual results of the literal EVACUATION of detroit dangit!!!

i haven't even read this fic recently it's been like weeks. a month? more? and i'm still internally screaming. i feel like i'm missing some of the main draws and i can't even describe a lot of it because i would DIE if i spoiled this masterpiece. this fic made me actually want to make myself learn to draw people so i can draw nothing but fanart for this fucking fic.

the characters, the pacing, the fucking lore, it's all immaculate. seriously. it feels like it's what dbh SHOULD'VE been. the writing style is utterly enrapturing. when i read it for the first time, i legitimately could not get myself to turn away from it for anything except tasks absolutely required on me. every single character feels like a PERSON. connor's complexity is fucking insane. he's lovable, he's terrifying, he's caring, he's callous. he is NOT static, at all. connor in chapter x is a completely different beast from chapter y. there is so much trauma and catastrophe, but PERFECTLY balanced with the humor. it's fucking perfect

let me supply some nice quotes to hook you. i can barely put any because spoilers and length but enjoy mostly funnies but also some of the angst

i think a lot of it might be simply symptoms of being fans of Detroit: Become Human instead of Detroit: Become Fandom and seeing all the untapped potential beyond just overused fanon tropes, but like u said a lot of the same little things... indeed very neat we're both here at the same time :)
