A bit premature for #TeleTuesday, but I just couldn't wait another whole day to show you guys this one. Thanks to my friend @stevemaricguitars it's my first NEW VINTAGE GUITAR DAY in about 5 years!!!

I have always wanted a late 60s Thinline (I even went so far as to buy a Custom Shop Reissue back in 2020) and I even remember looking at (and photographing!) this actual guitar when it was for sale at @capsulemusic back in ~2018, just before Steve bought it, and thinking "man, it's nice...but I just can't afford it"!
Fast forward 5 years and I still never thought I'd be able to afford a real one (I mean if you have you seen the asking prices on these lately, they are roughly double what I paid for my Custom Shop Reissue...which was NOT cheap itself!), but Steve gave me one hell of a deal, and made it super easy for me to acquire, and one more dream guitar of mine has been added to the collection. Thanks again Steve!
Of course now I have to sell something from my collection to help pay for it! 😂 Hmm, maybe that Custom Shop Reissue Thinline... 🤔

Updates to Thom's Teles
Left: a rare photo of Thom playing a cream Fender Telecaster Standard at a gig in December 1992 — presumably a touring backup for his black Tele Standard (Q #179). Right: Thom holding his Fenix-brand Tele Thinline copy during a gig in early-1995 (Rock&Folk).
This week, we updated Thom's page with more info on his Pablo Honey and The Bends era Telecasters. There's now better documentation of the mods done to his original black Tele Standard, his black Tele Thinline, and his Fenix Thinline copy. There's also info on Thom borrowing three different Teles from Jonny — see if you can guess which ones.
None of these guitars were used after touring for The Bends finished, either because of disinterest or because they were stolen. The theft of the latter two in October 1995 caused Thom to buy some vintage 70s Telecasters. He used those vintage instruments heavily from OK Computer through Hail To The Thief. Like the past two, his new "no1" Telecaster was also black, but this time it was a Deluxe with Wide Range humbuckers.
It was already mentioned on Thom's page, but I'd like to highlight a blog post from Deviation Street Magazine. They shared some awesome photos from Radiohead's gig at The Joiners Arms on February 18, 1993 — four days before the release of Pablo Honey! The writing offers a nice step back in time to an era when Radiohead was basically unknown.
And as on Jonny's page, we've started adding links to the table of contents to ease navigation.

Hi, I’m looking for a fic where Louis is a psychology student trying to write a paper when his wifi cuts out. He ends up trying to use harry’s wifi and harry’s wifi password turns out to be louis’ name. Louis ends up making excuses to always be at harry’s apartment since that’s when the wifi is the quickest. I think the fic the anon is looking for where Louis needs to use his neighbor Harry’s Wi-Fi but doesn’t know the password, and they’re not on good terms, at least at the beginning, is But It’s Useless by thinlines. The first scene is Louis desperately trying to submit a university assignment last minute but his internet cuts out. It’s no longer available on ao3, but there are links to downloads floating around. Nah I'm just joking, I've been logged in all along. Anyway, welcome back to Takosader's ramblings. This is part 2 of the Cherry XII project detailing.
Last month, I outlined the madness that I'm doing with this kit, including:

...and other such inane phrases incomprehensible to people who don't trawl Wikipedia and TVTropes pages for fun.
So. Let's review - where am I up to with the build? What's happened in the 6 weeks and a day since I last posted?
When I wrote the post last month, I was as far as making a router template for expanding the neck pocket. I'd already made a centre line (what mathblr may call a datum line), and was getting ready to sort out that router template. By the end of the 9th Feb, I suddenly had a new set of 3 cuts on my right index finger. Ouch.
So yeah, that was not fun. 3 weeks off to let my finger heal up, and I was back up at the beginning of March to continue where I left off. In those 3 weeks, my aunt (who is so very kindly helping me build this and is teaching me how to do woodwork at the same time) had routed out the neck pocket of the semi-hollow Telecaster body I acquired for this madness to accommodate a neck heel of 59mm, expanded from the standard 56mm that it was routed for originally.
We worked our arses off on March 1st, and that's an understatement. In the 6 hours we worked on it, not only did we modify the body to support the bridge pickup, which requires modifying the rear pickup cavity, but we also designed a new scratchplate for it and we attached the neck too.
Most of last week was spent just making the scratchplate, ensuring that it actually fit on the guitar. By the end of it, well...
I'd say these photos prove more than anything that we came up with a pretty damn good design. Yeah, for my fellow guitar nerds out there, this is in fact a Telecaster Thinline body modded to fit '69 pickup styling. Why '69 specifically? Because according to Fender, the '70s thinlines were H-H, not S-S. Also '69 was the first year they even came out.
Of course, to be fair, the entire thing, aside from the scratchplate, is purely pre-built stock. I think I mentioned last time that this is a kit-build right? Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm too lazy to check right now.
Next week's going to be fun, though. Might actually get to first assembly stage of putting the bridge and the string ferrules in, and then, who knows, maybe I'll get to start finishing the damn thing. Either way, it's been 3 months well spent, I'll tell you that. And that's not even accounting for making the brand new nut that's going to be required for this!
Maybe I can set up the pickups on the 6 string (which I'll make from the original kit's body) in such a way that combining them has the same effect as on a J-Bass, or the Red Special. Hell, maybe I could do that on the Sunset Fade. Options, options, options.
